"Really nice but too far from city"
I loved the hotel however, it says that it's .74 miles from the city center when in fact it is 7.4 miles. Cost us $40 extra dollars that we were not planning on spending.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel in the heavens!"
The hotel is far above the city but with access. The view is just spectacular! Having the shuttle was important and the driver is wonderful but the price for the view and overall loveliness is needing to rely on the so-so restaurant for dinner, staying in town after a long day, or going back to the hotel and then back to town just for dinner, if you're […] not taking in other night life. One of the women at the front desk was very helpful with train information, more so than the train staff! Others were also pleasant and helpful. This was our last city in Italy before returning to the US and the hotel helped make it a great last memory. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great View, Nice Pool"
Above average accommodations with a lovely pool that was a great lift after long days fighting traffic and crowds on the Amalfi Peninsula. Rooms were immaculate and the bathrooms first-rate. Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant was as good as those in Sorrento and the prices similar. The hotel has a car park and a free shuttle to Sorrento. Just left this hotel 2 nights ago. I read the reviews before booking and was very pleased with our stay. The location has a great view and the shuttle is so convenient. It's not in the center of town but close to it. Staff was helpful. Room was great. I travel a good amount and would recommend this hotel!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful view of the Sorrento plateau"
Sorrento is made to be viewed from high above the mountain. The beautiful shape of the bay becomes magical at one end where the Vesuvius mountain sits. This hotel truly deserves its name: "The Golden View".Genuine Expedia guest review
My wife and I had the best time in Sorrento. We spent four nights at La Vue D'Or and enjoyed the hotel amentities. The family that runs the hotel are wonderful and very helpful. The hotel shuttle was extremely helpful in getting us to and from downtown Sorrento. We enjoyed our stay so much that when we were stranded in Italy for an additional six days […] due to Hurricane Sandy, we returned to La Vue D'Or instead of staying in Rome. "Our only bad experience in Italy SKIP THIS HOTEL!"
I thought this hotel was somewhat near Sorento. No such luck. It costs 45 Euro by taxi to get here. I was so shocked that I mentioned it to Nino the manager and he went off on me saying I should have written him for bus information. He lectured me for ten minutes, then finally acknowledged that they don't tell people about how far the hotel is from […] town in order to book as many customers as possible, He endorsed this as good sales strategy. I had to politely excuse myself. No air conditioner until after 6pm,. Very, very expensive food with a sterile dining room. Pool is much too cold to swim in. Very limited hot water in the shower. Our only truly painful experience in Italy. Sorry. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It is the "Golden View""
We stayed at La Vue D'Or 3 days from May 21-24. The view is just wonderful. The room we were given was actually for 3 people and were told they would move our luggage into another room the next day. That was a little inconvenient, but we did have a view of the sea, and the next day that room was just as good also with a spectacular view. The Staff was […] very friendly and helpful; always ready to answer our questions. The thing that is very important is the fact that there is a shuttle which operates in the morning hours, and then again in the evening hours until 10:30-11:30pm. If you plan your day trips right, the shuttle works perfectly.(Approx. a 15 min. ride) However, to walk to the center of town to Sorrento, the hotel is just too far away. Plus, there is a city bus service, but the times aren't always consistent. The hotel pool is very nice and there is a sun deck which makes for a very relaxed setting. We did not try the restaurant at the hotel, but we did have cappucinos from the bar which were good. The thing that needs improvement is the breakfast. It was just okay, and the items weren't always stocked fast enough. Just a note -- we had some really good dinners. The restaurants I would recommend are "Bagni Delfino" and "The Garden" in Sorrento. Good seafood, veal, and pastas. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Wonderful place to visit. Hotel made us feel like family. Beautiful view of the bay of Naples and excellent food in hotel. Free shuttle fron Sorrento to hotel however a little difficult to find. As far as Italian breakfasts go it is good to get quite a good spread but getting coffee from a machine that clearly is not capable of making quality coffee and the lack of fresh fruit is disappionting. "Great location and views"
The hotel was very nice and staff very helpful and friendly. The curticy shuttle bus into the town was very regular. Walking is not an option. The downside is the beds - they were too hard to sleep comfortably. Sorrento itself was a little disappointing - over crowded and too much traffic. The standard of food was merely satisfactory. Made use of the free minibus down to the town - too far to walk. Considering the cost of some of the more central hotels this is fairly priced. Clean. Nice view. Restaurant is average. Hotel get a thumbs up overall.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel, stunning views and handy bus to town."
We had a great weeks stay here. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful in telling us about how to get around best and where to go. The buffet breakfast had a great choice. The pool area was great with a quiet adult area on the roof with stunning views across Sorrento and over to Mt. Vesuvius. We paid a minimal price for a room with a balcony and […] valley view which was definitely worth it! The (free) hotel bus to the town also made it easy to get around. The only negative I can see people would have is the rooms lack of tea and coffee facilities and perhaps the showers could do with updating but they were absolutely fine and everything was kept very clean with the new bedding everyday. this is a lovely hotel perched high up a steep hill overlooking Sorrento. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There is a courtesy bus from the hotel down to Sorrento which takes about 15mins (traffic permitting). the bus runs at 8:15, 9:15, 10:15 and 12:15 in the morning and 5:15, 6:15, 7:15 & 8:45 on an evening. Each of these results in a […] reciprocal return journey plus there is a return bus at 10;30 & 11:30 which is good. my only gripes would be no fridge in the rooms which in 90 degrees plus Aug temperatures when you need to drink lots means paying extortionate hotel prices for drinks. Plus there wasn't a courtesy room on our last day which meant be out of room by 11am but not leaving hotel until the evening getting hot and sweaty all day but unable to refresh before departing for the flight home :-( Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The view from this hotel is utterly spectacular & you won't get used to it. It's a family run hotel & all the staff/owners are friendly & helpful. Food & drink is quite pricey but then it is anywhere in Sorrento. "Perfect hotel for the family with friendly service"
We arrived in the early hours and were greeted by a smiling hotel receptionist who was concerned that we settle in quickly and even opened the bar so that we could enjoy a celebratory drink after the flight and journey. This set the tone for the very friendly and polite service we received throughout. Superb views from this quiet location about 15 […] minutes from central Sorrento by free minibus, car or bus. Free minibus operates frequently and was always punctual. View overlooking s Sorrento from the 4 bed family room was great. Nice big lounge / reception with plenty of comfortable seating. We had a family room so the extra seating here went in favour of extra beds - so the seating in the lounge was a bonus for a late nightcap or coffee before retiring. If the weather is good the pool is well stocked with good sun beds - although the pool, for some, may be a bit chilly. We braved it though and enjoyed it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Good hotel but unhelpful staff"
The hotel is set back into the top of the hills away from Sorrento but for us it was perfect - peace and quiet when we wanted it and a 15 minute bus ride into Sorrento (for which the hotel bus was reliable and ran like clockwork). The location is also good as it is right on the main road to access buses to Sorrento or Positano/ Amalfi etc. Our room […] was clean but basic and not as I recall the pictures on the website, however more than suitable just for a place to sleep. There was one really helpful member of staff at the hotel (a gentleman with curlyish hair and always smiley) nothing seemed to much and he always seemed happy to help. A few down sides were the attitudes of the rest of the staff, they were miserable (especially the waiters in the restaurant) and unhelpful. The breakfast wasn't great, however for the few days we were there it was edible. Despite the negative experience with the staff, I think that the facilities and location of this hotel are recommendable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"What a view !"
We had our reservations about staying 15 mins away from Sorrento but we definitely made the right choice....the view was stunning from almost anywhere in the hotel. It was away from the mad traffic and hustle and bustle of Sorrento and importantly in August, much cooler. The shuttle bus was brillliant, and the SITA bus easy to use. The staff were fantastic […] and it was obvious they had great pride in everything they do. Room was clean, spacious and comfy. Our 10 year old made lots of friends and loved the pool. Best trip was Pomeii but remember to take ID if you have a child. They are free if you are EU citizen. Wear a hat and take a small bottle of water which can be filled from taps marked "acqua potable". Small town 15 mins walk from hotel was our best find...Sant' Agata..a true taste of Italy. We had the most delicious food in restaurant Mimi and great service. Boat trip to Amalfi was fab..24 euro with GESCAB in Marina Piccola. We stopped to swim at Capri for 20 mins. You could go to Positano or Amalfi, but only an hour in Amalfi. Be warned, it's very expensive, 2 beers and an ice cream was 19 euro in Amalfi but go off the beaten track and it should be cheaper. Trip back to Sorrento was lovely..if you sit on the right you have stunning views of the coast all the way back. Wear a hat and plenty of sun cream and just relax ! "Good hotel, great staff."
Nice location for a quiet relaxing break. Convenient shuttle bus to get you into Sorrento and back, last one back is 11.30pm so if you want to stay out later you will be charged 30 to 40 Euros for a taxi. Breakfast more than adequate, plus a pretty good selection of snacks at lunchtime. We ate out in Sorrento most evenings so can't comment on Evening […] Meals, but those half board seemed to think they were OK. Drinks tend to be expensive, but you can find the odd bar down side streets a bit cheaper. We have just returned from a weeks stay at La Vue D'Or, Sorrento in August 2011, following a family wedding in the area. Firstly, we hired a car from the airport and drove to the hotel. If anyone else does the same, we would recommend using sat-nav as, although it is a relatively simple journey and main routes are signposted from the airport, should […] you be travelling during your stay, the sat nav comes in handy when exploring the area. The roads in the area are very winding, with some fairly hair-raising bends (the sat nav gives you prior warning to them!!) The hotel itself was immaculately clean and well presented. The layout is spacious, modern and comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and speak excellent english. The rooms were cleaned quickly each day. The restaurant was large and offered a nice selection of Italian food. The pool area has two levels, one area for adult only sun bathing, the lower area for families, where there is a pool and snack bar. Our children, aged 4 and 5, enjoyed playing in the pool all week. However, the only negative comment about our whole stay was that the pool had a deep step from shallow to deep, which we felt was unsafe for children and even some adults! The hotel operated free shuttle bus into town was useful, although doesn't operate between 12:30pm - 5:30pm, but you can always use the service bus for 2euros. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Excellent hotel well positioned in the hills outside Sorrento with views over the Bay of Naples. Staff very relaxed, friendly and helpful. Courtesy bus runs regularly (8.30 - 11.30) offering free access to all whats going on in Sorrento (and access boats / rail station). It doesn't run for a few hours in the afternoonwhich we didn't find a problem […] - but there is always the Sita bus as a fallback. Because of our flight times we hired a car. Getting to the hotel took about 1 1/4 hours and was fine although we were glad we had a TomTom to navigate. The car proved useful for getting to a decent beach at Marina Del Cantone, any easy 25min drive. Plenty of room for putting down towels and there's also a large shaded area under a wooden pier which we found useful . Also has nice restuarants for an evening visit. One evening we drove to nearby Massa town where we found a good restuarant opposite the Church with views over to Capri. We also did Pompei - well worth doing, easy access by train (only £2-3); and the 'Blue Cruise' trip (35 Euros - reception can book) across to Capri with swim stop, then down the Amalfi coast with a 2hr stop in Amalfi which was an excellent day out. On our last day we drove back via the hills, going to a little village called Santa Maria del Castello which has brilliant views down to Positano and an excellent little resturant - La Ginestra thats part of a farming commune. We stayed in La Vue D'Or for a week following a few days in Rome. The hotel was fantastic, just what we needed after 4 days intense sightseeing! "Amazing views and the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in."
Where to start? Well Google Earth is deceiving - you can't really walk in to town from the hotel, it's too far! Thankfully the hotel provides a free, comfortable and punctual shuttle bus that runs every hour (ish) in the morning until 1pm and every evening from 5pm every day. The break at lunchtime is annoying but that's siestas for you, and you can […] still take the local bus. We rented a car and can definitely recommend tackling the locals, driving along the Amalfi Coast and going on a road trip to Rome! Anyway breakfast was very good quality although after 2 weeks a continental breakfast can get quite boring. The hotel has a decent sized pool and 2 areas for sunbathing. The staff were all great, multilingual, friendly and helpful, they managed to help me out with a couple of problems I had. One of the night staff - Angelo, suggested places to go and things to do while in Sorrento and we had a great rapport with him, the hotel is family owned and run and that gives it an informal yet professional feel that was lovely. The cleaners are quick and did a wonderful job almost every day. The hotel is called Vue D'Or for a reason, the views of the Bay of Naples and Sorrento are incredible and you may find yourself getting up early just to watch the sun rise over the hills each morning. We definitely recommend going to Sorrento for the people, the history, the experience and the scenery, and likewise we definitely recommend staying at the Vue D'Or, I'm sure you won't regret it. "Views from on high"
The advantage of the hotel was its views, away from the crowds, had a great courtesy bus service to the centre of town. It would rate at 90% overall. The service at breakfast was ok. The signage to get there was very good despite travelling through many back streets in neighbouring suburbia. Well worth the experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The view from the hotel dining room is stunning as it over looks Mount Vesuvius and hotel staff were very friendly and willing to help in any way. There are no tea making facilities in the room, so my wife brough her own tea bags as she loves her cuppa in the evening and the staff were very obliging by providing a free small jug of milk each day for […] her. The breakfast was only continental, no full English available, but still lovely. The evening menu is very limiting with not much to choose from. But you can easily find a good restauratnt in Sorrento and the hotel provides a free shuttle bus service in and out of the town. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

This is an excellent hotel to stay at, the rooms were very clean and the public areas were also very clean. They can organise trips for you around the Amalfi coast or to Capri and these are good value for money. The shuttle bus service […] is excellent and the trip into or out of Sorrento takes about 15 mins. The views from the hotel bedrooms are fantastic The Bay of Naples, Vesuvius and the town of Sorrento. Do try an evening meal in the dining room it is value for money when compared to restaurants in town. If you travel from Naples on the train guard your belongings as the train is very crowded.
