Comfortable hotel. Attractive. Delicious breakfast included. Clean. Not a very helpful front desk staff. Close to downtown shopping.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good hotel, blah food"
It's a pleasant hotel, nice grounds, and a rooftop cafe with terrific views. Very close to town center. The hotel claimed a concierge, but usually noone was there and otherwise not very helpful. The dining room food was not exciting. Breakfast ok but unexceptional. The dinner food was very stodgy British food, edible but bland, almost tasteless, and […] not enjoyable. A hotel in the heart of fabulous Italian cooking should do better. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Very convenient location. Well maintained and clean. A good value. Would highly recommend to the busy traveller.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My husband and I stayed here for 6 days celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary. The location of the Grand Hotel Cesare Augusto was fabulous - centrally located, easy walking to restaurants, attractions, train and bus station. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We had a corner room with outdoor seating with amazing views of the water. The bed […] was comfortable and the room was spacious. The morning breakfast was good. We would recommend this hotel and would visit again. Thank you for an amazing stay in Sorrento. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wished that we could have stayed longer!"
The hotel staff were very accomodating as we arrived after 8:30 p.m. Dinner at the hotel restaurant closed at 9:00 p.m., but they insisted that we could still be served. The rooms were nice and the view from the balcony was just beautiful! Parking was underground and they were helpful in getting us parked.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location could not be better. Friendly staff. Decor is a little bit outdated but overall very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very convenient location"
I was please to discover that the choice of this hotel suited my needs very well, from the walk-to-anywhere-in-Sorrento location to the extreme courtesy of the hotel staff, from the gracious Concierges to the Dining Room staff & the Housekeeping personnel. My specific request for room choice was granted, & my stay was very comfortable, a good value […] for the cost. Thank you. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely hotel, near everything"
I was traveling alone for a week in the Sorrento area. I had booked this hotel through Expedia without knowing very much about it. It did not take me very long to know that I had made a very good choice. Not only was the room lovely and clean, but the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Additionally, to make things even better, this hotel is […] situated near everything that you want in Sorrento: 5-7 minute walk to the train station and bus terminal, and a 8-10 minute walk to the wonderful central plaza. You could not ask for a better location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel is in walking distance to train station and just 5 minutes walk to city center and not much further to beach. The rooms was roomy and clean, comfortable beds. Big bathroom. Nice pool on the top of hotel, with beautiful view of Naples Bay and Mt. Vesuvius. The complimentary breakfast was good, but needed more breakfast foods. My only complaint […] was the staff at the front desk and dining room, they were not friendly or helpful. We stayed there 6 nights and the staff never called me by my name. Most did not speak much English. The reason is, this hotel caters to the large tour groups that only stays two nights and the staff do not have to interact with guests. "Central Sorrento hotel"
This hotel caters to large tour groups. During the 3 days we spent there, we saw several groups check in and out. We were given a room on the street side of the hotel and when we asked about switching to a quieter room, were told that there were no rooms available on the garden side. The hotel is located walking distance from the train station and the […] main tourist area of Sorrento, definitely a plus for us. Breakfasts were ample, with meats, cheese, eggs, fruit, cereal and many pastries. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel close to train station"
Beautiful room, but not great service. At the end of one day, tired and ready to relax we found the door to our room wide open. When we complained to the manager we were almost scolded and told to make sure the door was shut. But we left that room with the door locked before it was cleaned, and were shocked to find the door open. They promise free wifi […] in the room, but doesn't always work. They promise you can make an international call with calling card from the room, but it didn't work and they didn't care. Free use of computer in lobby was useful. The breakfast was just fair. Excellent hotel, great breakfast, loved the garden, desk clerk was always available and very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in a great location- just a couple of blocks away from Piazza Tasso. The room was spacious and clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and willing to answer questions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We found out that they mechanically switch fro heat to cool in mid April. Our first few nights it was warm. We managed by keeping the patio door open. So our only complaint was no cooling in early April while we were there.Genuine Expedia guest review
we went in February which is off season for Sorrento of course, many hotels are actually closed for the winter, this hotel had a few tourists and some bus tour groups some days, neverthe less all the staff was very helpful and friendly. the hotel is very conveniently located close to the train station (Circumvesuviana) and bus stops, just a couple of […] minutes walk. the hotel condition is impeccable and our room was very large by italian standards, clean and very comfortable, with a balcony, the beds were the most comfortable we had during our whole Italy trip, the room safe is big enough for 2 small laptops or Ipads. the breakfast buffet was very good but the coffee from the coffee machine is not that great as other reviewers have mentioned ( there is a bar on the same street, via degli aranci, opposite the hotel's side, above the train station with a cappucino for 1 euro, Paradise bar is the name, I think, full of local customers) overall we had a wonderful stay at the hotel and think it was a great deal for the price, we loved Sorrento in the winter, we had cold but nice weather, were able to visit Pompei and Amalfi without the usual crowds of tourists. We want to thank the staff of the hotel and hope they read this review. (also we want to mention a good reasonably priced restaurant nearby, on via Marziale: the red lion (il leone rosso) with friendly service). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Nice central location in downtown Sorrento. The hotel is rather basic in accommodations. It appears to cater to tour groups. Good breakfast.Genuine Expedia guest review
We truly were happy with this hotel and the fact that it was close to the bus and train stations as well as the town center. The food was good for all three meals. We enjoyed a relaxing day by the pool and had lunch on the patio as well. A bonus to all rooms is the balcony. Something that I'm very particular about is cleanliness and this hotel met my […] expectations. I have no negative remarks to make about this excellent hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was the best hotel of our trip (4 places) The only one I would consider 4 Star. Very spacious room, balcony, and full size bathroom. (Tub and shower) Great breakfast, full bar, incredible views from the roof, overall just a wonderful place. Also very close to the Sorrento train stop on the Circumvesuvian train line. (Which actually went on a planned […] strike while we were there.) Just a very short walk to downtown through their gardens. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Except for one complaint regarding the amenities we found the hotel excellent in all other respects. "Good Hotel - I'd stay again"
The hotel was good. Excellent location. Close to train station, the centre of town( Piazza Tasso) and lots of places to walk. It was along a very busy street but very quiet at night once the patio doors were shut and you use the air conditioner. The hotel is dated though. Something you find out of a 1970's movie. Very nice back in the day but it does […] need an upgrade. The beds were comfy but not great. Breakfast was good but the coffee out of a machine killed it for me. You could however ask for an espresso if you wanted . I would stay there again if on a budget, however stay closer to the cliffs to get a great ocean view and spend a little extra. It is an incredible city to absorb. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cesare Augusto, great value"
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The whole hotel was clean and the room was a great size. The breakfast buffet had enough choices to make everyone happy. It was sited just five minutes walk from Sorrento train station, where you could also pick up the bus to Naples Airport. AND, most important, if you exited hotel from back entrance, it […] took less than five minutes to hit the busy centre for bars, restaurants and shops. "Nice hotel, close to centre for everything"
Lovely hotel right in centre of sorrento. In heart of all shops, bars, restaurants. Walking distance to the square, marina, local transport links. Rooftop pool lovely & peaceful, not overcrowded. Clean rooms. Staff on reception okay and quite helpful, all speak good English. Breakfast okay - could have been better though.Genuine Expedia guest review
Very pleasant hotel in perfect location. Four minutes to the main square and the same to the train/bus station. Staff were helpful. We had a triple room which I think was a double with an extra bed as there were only two chairs on the balcony. However, it was spacious and not at all cramped. Requested a top floor (5th) room which we were given and it […] was lovely and quiet at night. I usually have trouble sleeping in hotels because of noise but you could have heard a pin drop. The breakfast was fine, perfectly acceptable for a week but probably a bit repetitive after that. The rooftop pool wasn't huge but was never crowded. There were three of us and we always managed to get a sunbed. The snack bar was pleasant, never busy and prices the same as in town. The views were lovely. Really couldn't fault this hotel. "Location ideal. Breakfast below par. Value for £££"
Location is great: 5 minutes walking from the very centre of Sorrento. Rooms very large and comfortable. Considering it is supposed to be a **** (4-star) hotel the breakfast is well below par: e.g. no fresh juices (... in Italy?), very limited choice in cooked items, almost no choice in type of bread. Another disappointment is that the roof terrace […] and pool (6th floor) closes at 7pm, just when the weather is perfect to sit, and read and perhaps have a quick dip. This hotel is everything that you need in a hotel. Great location, spotlessly clean, rooftop pool with towel provided, WIFI, pool bar, Free airconditioning in the rooms, TV. The hotel is close to all the local amenities, and 2 minutes walk from the bus and train stations. "A Great Find"
This is an art deco hotel with very large rooms and a balconies. I have stayed in Sorrento 3 times and this is my favorite hotel. The pool and room size and location are its best attributes. The doors are solid fir and the finishing are of a past era as the build quality was so high. It is not modern and the bathrooms are a bit dated but I would rather […] stay here than the 2 higher priced hotels I stayed in on my last 2 visits to Sorrento. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Simply put this was the best hotel in Italy my family and I have stayed in. Perfect location, just five minutes walk from colourful, vibrant Piazza Tasso our room was spacious with three separate beds, bathroom, shower, mini bar, safe, balcony with spectacular views and air conditioning. Free breakfast was superb as was the roof top pool area. It was […] the perfect base for exploring Sorrento and the further afield Pompeii, Amalfi Coast and Capri. "Good hotel in a great location"
We had 2 rooms both with twin beds and both had a view of the sea. We were on the 5th floor definitely the best for the views. The rooms were comfortable with tiled floors and a nice en-suite bathroom / toilet with an over the bath shower. The cleaning staff were extremely friendly with our rooms cleaned, tidied and restocked usually while we were down […] at breakfast. Breakfast is continental and I worried about this as other reviews had been critical. However it is a lot better than some suggest - fruit (some tinned, some fresh although the fresh container emptied quickly), yogurts, breads and pastries, hams and cheese, and also some hot food (scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon or sausages and toast). There were machines for juice and hot drinks but we normally just asked for a pot of tea. The juice wasn't great as it was watery but this seemed to depend on which day and which machine you used. The reception staff were friendly but didn't really offer alternatives to 'their' tours e.g. Pompeii or Amalfi are simple to get to on the train / bus with a cost of about 8 euro but the reception staff only tell you about the tours costing about 50 euro. The hotel is in an excellent location close to the main square and also the bus / train station. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was of reasonable quality, it was quite old fashioned in decor, but well maintained. The breakfast was reasonable and quite similar to other Italian hotels. The room was of a good size, the beds were a bit hard, but fine. The pool was quite small and catered more for the over 60s and was a bit like a library and you did feel you could not […] make any noise without been glared at, so perhaps not that suitable for young families. We eat at the snack bar a few time and that was good value. Overall the hotel has a good location, but was quite expensive for the level of quality, however, Sorrento was generally quite expensive for hotels. This is more of a base for seeing the sites than a hotel to sit around the pool. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
I stayed here with my 16 year old daughter and we had a great time. The hotel staff are wonderful, very helpful and very good English speakers (loads better than my Italian!). The hotel is comfortable, clean and cool which was always welcome in the heat. The food was very good with the breakfast more than just continental that you expect in some hotels. The […] hotel is perfectly positioned for easy access to the piazza Tasso, which we loved. The hotel is on a busy road, and the sound proofing isn't brilliant, but I didn't find this disturbed me in the night, and I am a light sleeper. The hotel could do with some maintenance in some areas. There was a chunk of plaster missing the next to our door frame, but this is a minor thing really. The pool deck was lovely with a great view and a welcome oasis of the snack bar to retreat to when in need of refreshing. The pool isn't as large as the pictures indicate, and not the sort of pool you would see kids playing and splashing about in all day. It really is just for cooling off and chatting. I would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Centrally located in busy tourist town close to railway station, safe and quiet, yet within walking distance of busy town centre and port. Staff speak good English. Ideal base.Genuine Expedia guest review
The Cesare Augusto turned out to be an excellent choice for my week in Sorrento with wife and daughter. As we were sightseeing the area on alternate days (Pompei/Capri/Amalfi + Ravello) its proximity to the train and bus station and also the marinha piccolo was a real plus as all were only a short walk away, less than 10 mins stroll, even less for the […] rail & bus station and main piazza/town centre. This meant no need for expensive taxis. The hotel was fine, unpretentious, clean and functional. The rooftop had a nice spacious terraced area with a small pool and snack bar and afforded a magnificent view of the full sweep of the bay of Naples, set off nicely by the terracotta rooftops in the foreground. For me this was an excellent choice and I would be happy to use this hotel again. West side on the upper floors would by my preference on any future visit. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It was grand, and is now practical."
We wanted to stay in the centre of Sorrento to attend a wedding and to be able to enjoy the local bars and restaurants, all of this made the hotel an excellent choice. We had a 3rd floor room overlooking the side of the hotel, mainly to a small garden. Whilst traffic noise was plenty in the daytime with the sliding double glazed, balcony doors open, […] at night with the doors closed and the traffic in the town ceasing, no sleep was lost. The accommodation was roomy, clean and reflected an age gone by even with the name of the hotel on all the bathroom towels. The dining room which we used for breakfast was large and grand with pristine linen and comfortable furniture I have to say the self service breakfast contained all the usual European fare, but I've seen it done better. The location of the hotel was great. It was clean and bright and having a balcony was really nice. The room was a good size even with 3 single beds in it.
