If you look for a non standard Hotel, this is the place to go.Our room was nicely decorated, cosy with a lot of creativity and very cosy. The staff at the reception has been very friendly and helpful. Ou feel welcome and taken care of from the very first moment.We will definitely recommend this Hotel to our friends and come back again.

We stayed in "There" which has a 1950s and 1960s world travel theme. With 1950's jazz playing in the lobby and in our cabin, and with timeless Mendocino a few minutes up the coast, the entire weekend seemed like we were transported back to another place and time.

The room was so small there wasn't room for our luggage. When I made the reservation they said it was a cabin. It was somebodies craft room adjacent to the office. It was full of craft supplies stuff stacked everywhere. We literally couldn't fit our luggage in the room. There was nobody there but a guy working on the roof. He told us there might be […] a key in a box. We called all the phone numbers they supplied including the emergency one but despite a promise on the answering machine there was no answer or return call. We put our bags back in the car and spent a week at a wonderful cottage up the road. Read more

We absolutely loved the place. The owners/hosts were very nice and hospitable. Each cabin is uniquely appointed. There was actually a guitar in the cabin we stayed in. We had a long driver to get there but we showed up at their "Fondue Friday" happy hour. The next moring we had "toast in the lobby"...fun. We would highly reccommend this lodging.

We loved our quirky cabin. The Andiron is made up for 12 cabins all uniquely named and decorated. Our cabin was 'Curiouser' and lived up to it's name of all things in life people are curious about: clowns, ESP, tarot cards, and of course it had an Ouija board. They served happy hour on weekend nights along with toast and local jam/jelly breakfast bar […] in the mornings. We had a wonderful time and cannot wait to return to try out a new room. My partner and I had a beautiful drive South along Hwy 1 arriving late to the Andiron. Even though the front desk had closed for the evening, we were warmly welcomed with a personalized note with keys in a box at the office. When we entered our cabin, the lights were on, the t.v. was on with a music station playing, and a dessert treat awaited us with […] a note on the table. It was like coming home or visiting a friends house...so welcoming. They had a recycling bin outside each cabin, E.O. (Essential Oil) products supporting sustainability in the bathroom, and a hot tub you could enjoy with mood lighting if going in the evening. We wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the cabin itself. We have already recommended the Andiron to our friends and family who live in the Bay Area as a great get away. Stayed in Play, cute room. This was a coastal trip to relax and get away for a week. Two nights here and very relaxing for my purpose. Layed out on cabin deck one day and just snoozed, woke to a deer close by chewing on some fresh cut grass. Tucked away in the woods, 3 miles from Mendocino. Perfect for just kicking back.

This boutique style hotel was a creative masterpiece! Each room has a different theme and is as charming as the day is long. We brought our dog and we were greeted with a basket full of amenities (bone, towel, and sheet) and a list of rules that were so eloquently stated. Mendocino County is beautiful to begin with, but the Andiron was an amazing experience in and of itself. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, there was a welcome note and handmade dessert in our room when we checked in. The owners are great fun, knowledgeable of the area, accommodating, and they have character that makes your stay all the more inviting. The goats were fun to play with and the owners two dogs were friendly and beautiful. I will be going back to the Andiron whenever I stay in Mendocino County. The secret beach is right down the street, the little river inn is right down the street and they have great breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mendocino is about 5 minutes away and Fort Bragg about 10 minutes. Perfect place to stay away from the crowds, but c lose to the sites! I LOVED IT! Read more

I found the room a bit cramped, but the retro decor was actually cool- I don't usually go for that, but everything was tasteful and honestly interesting. The wiring can be troublesome for techies because it's an older property, but I managed. A few hooks on the doors, and a spare (undecorated) table in the room and bath would be great. Also, the bed […] was really very comfortable for a spring mattress, and the linens were quite nice, but the pillows were truly terrible. Last but not least, a recycling bin in the room would've been nice. Those complaints aside, I thought it was pretty neat, and I'm very picky. I enjoyed the semi-solitude of the cabins, and the proximity to the area's attractions. The innkeepers were friendly and helpful, and the price made my only issues fairly inconsequential. PB&J, Happy Hour and 'Toast Bar' in the mornings are unique B&B-style bonuses. I would stay again. Read more

Very nice cabins, extremely friendly owners with cute dogs, dog friendly place. Each cabin has a unique theme. There is also a hot tub in the woods. Weekend "happy hour" and morning "toast bar" complimentary. I highly recommend going to the "Secret Beach" when you get there - one of the most interesting sights in Mendocino.

Very private, rustic setting, we stayed in the "Nature" cabin, almost equal to a studio apt, with small kitchenette and sitting area. Nice deck with BBQ. Quite functional for cooking for 2 people. Kate at the desk was very nice & very helpful.

My wife and I stayed in the room named "MAKE". We arrived late in the evening to find the office closed. However, there was a lovely note with our key welcoming us to the inn. Upon entering our room, we were greeted with soft lighting and pleasant music, and a yummy good-night sweet to enjoy. As we were finishing moving into the room, the proprietor […] checked with us to make sure that everyting was okay. My wife, who is artistically inclined, was in seventh heaven with the theme of our room - namely creative arts. She particularly enjoyed the paint-by-number wall mural that was being worked on by guest after guest. We loved everything about the room; and the bed and bedding were top-notch, however as I am a late sleeper, I would have preferred more substantial window coverings. We are both hoping to explore other rooms in this unique hotel in the future. We highly recommend thisn hotel. Read more

While we arrived to late to enjoy the view of the sea across the street, we had plenty to entertain us inside the cabin. We stayed in travel-themed "There" with retro posters, lighted globes and other re-purposed travel gear. Cute little gas fireplace by the bed and a sweet little hot tub in the woods. It was a kitschy little fun not-your-average-hotel […] option on our roadtrip and we will likely stay there again. The Andiron is actually a set of cabins on the hillside, across from the Pacific Ocean, just outside of Mendocino. It's not oceanfront property, but it doesn't cost a gazillion dollars a night either. We stayed in cabin #4 "THere, decorated with 60's travel posters, a map, a stereoscope, a couple of hideous 60's lamps.. it is a collector's dream.. I […] was so happy here. The sig. other said it was silly, but didn't complain when I popped in a Rocky and Bullwinkle dvd on the little flat screen. Each cabin has a different theme, each has a bbq on the deck, some have kitchens and wood burning stoves. I'd love to stay a night at each one. It's not a b&b, there's no restaurant, but we saved enough to have a coupe incredible dinners at Moosse, in Mendocino Village! Read more

Each cabin has a distinct and whimsical theme; ours was 'Writer' and included framed pages from old books, and a vintage Royal typewriter with typing paper if one is the mood. Delicious sangria for happy hour, and toast with various toppings for breakfast...not to mention a handy hot tub in the woods. We will be back!

Very fun place to stay, close to mendocino. Every room has a different theme. Ours was arts and crafts. It was decorated with all sorts of vintage arts and craft projects, that you could do yourself.
