It is so hard to choose the right hotel in a country you have never been in. I initially booked the Grand Paradise which was completely AWFUL!!! I immediately got on the phone with hotels.com, gave them my price range and within minutes I was booked at Paradisus! The hotel was amazing and service was top notch. Get resort....Staff was very friendly. Everything was fantasic, from the pool to the beach. Only wished there were more places to eat or that we could eat at the restuarants during the day, not just for dinner. The buffet was not good. A week in "Paradise"! We went to a friend's wedding, which was wonderful. My husband was in heaven to be playing tennis almost every day. The spa services were professional, and I highly recommend them. Everything was perfect! Great and accommodating staff. Worth the extra dollar there was no comparison to other resorts in the area. i stayed for 7 days with royal service and i was overall pleased. A couple of things need to be attended to for future customers. The villas needed more maintenance i.e, the shower was missing a head of the bottom jets, the radio on the dresser wasn't working properly. Room service was called multiple times and I would get continuous ringing, busy signal, […] and eventually no answer. After calling the front desk, I was told to keep calling but I ended up with the same result, but after many attempts of calling I eventually had a live person answer. Wifi was an issue as well. Hotel staff was very kind and helpful. I left a 200.00 peso tip one day for the housekeeper and the rest of the week she folded my dirty clothes and put them in a pile!!! I mean if that isn't above and beyond, I don't what is. Sure there were one or two of the staff that weren't as pleasant as the rest of the staff but hey you're going to have that. […] The A/C in my room worked very well. As for the casino, meh. Maybe the rules for gambling over there but the experience on the slot machines for some of the people I was with was very unpleasant. On three different occassions when someone from our party hit a pretty good pay out ($100.00 - $200.00) the attendant in the casino would come over and make them change slot machines. After the person would get up from the machine he would openit up and tinker around with it. Then he would try to entice the same people to go back to the same machine as though he knew they weren't going to win on that machine any longer. I that happened everynight we were there in the casino. So other than the experience in the casino our stay was great. Drinks are good, the buffet has a pretty good selection of food everynight and during lunch each day. Didn't get to the specialty restaurants because I was too hungover from the night before to make be able to make reservations on time. The beach is beautiful, but there is a tremendous amount of seaweed in the water so you don’t get that clear Caribbean blue look and you get seaweed on you when you go in. However, the pool is very nice. The rooms at the main hotel are very comfortable as well. The service is not so fabulous in the restaurants. Don't worry about staying at the Reserve […] because it is "off the beach".. the golf cart is always available to take you the 3 minute ride back and forth. The room was nice and clean and about 75% percent of the staff were kind and provided good service. Others were rude and seemed to either not like their jobs or be angry at you. We had a reunion group of 11 friends and our trip was amazing. The resort is gorgeous, very luxurious and well-maintained. The staff was friendly and attentive, these people work VERY HARD to ensure guests are having a good time. We hung out at the pool and beach every day, Luis and Gloria were right there serving up the drink of the day or anything […] we desired. Yubi and Jose led us enthusiastically in dance lessons, activities and games and I really enjoyed it all although I don't usually join these types of activities. Their fun attitude is inspiring and they work round the clock to make sure guests are having fun. We visited most restaurants, including Vento, Bana, Naos, Market Grill and Passion. They were all good, especially Vento and Bana. Passions was not my cup of tea, more for serious "foodies" with gourmet tastes. My friends loved it however, especially the tasting menu with wine pairings. Entertainment was varied and enjoyable, good salsa bands and beach party. We participated in yoga, sailing, pilates, spa services, beach, pool, dancing, cocktail making. Only complaint was snorkeling - very unhelpful people at watersports desk, only interested in selling "better" activities. Overall great time! Read more

We as a family had a wonderful time in the Dominican Republic/Punta CANA . Paradisus Palma Real was great. We paid but did not get The Reserve but that was Expedia's mistake not the hotel. Will file a claim to get money back. The food, nightly shows and the staff are great. Go for the ZIP LINE excursion by VIP not the ATV ( Lots of people and you go […] slow-not fun at all as well as it being far away.). Watch out when you book because there are more than one Paradisus hotels. It has to be Palma Real. Room was good for the downgrade (paid for better). It lacks organized daily activities. They have a few but nothing real. Don't make reservations in the restaurants you have to pay for or even the others, the buffet is fantastic every night. All and all a wonderful vacation. Read more

When you arrive, IMMEDIATELY try to book your dinner reservations at the "nicer" restaurants because they are going to tell you every day they are booked between 6 and 9;45 pm.Even 5 days in advance! .WHAT??? We could not figure this one out. # 2. your "fully stocked mini bar" does not include any liquor, only 2 beers, 2 sodas […] and two waters, that is it! IF you want it restocked again on the same day, a $ 5.00 charge will incur..#3 Do go out like the rest of the inconsiderate people and put your towels on your beach chairs at 6;00 am because they do not police the "no saving of chairs" rule. If you don't, be prepare to not find an umbrella/hut. #4 The very relaxing and beautiful chairs/beds you see with the large cushions for the beach and pool on their website ARE NOT INCL for you unless you pay the fee to upgrade to royal service..The rooms are very nice but the service here is not very good and all of your frozen drinks WILL all taste the same..Really sad b/c with some good mgmt this could be a 5 star place...The Domincian is a budget minded vacation spot as everyone we talked with from diff hotels ALL had the same exact experiences..They seem to cater to Europeans and South Americans as there are very few english speaking employees...As an american, I would go back to the Bahamas, at least they seem to cater to the US a lot more.. We arrived at noon time Wed. We asked for an upgrade to Royal Service. Butler and other extras sounded nice, We were given a tour of the property and finally by 3pm were in our room. Disappointed was the general stay. At 6pm we started calling for our luggage. like the entire trip the response was always the same. "absolutely, right away" unfortunately […] that never was the case. The phone they gave us to call our butler never worked. The ac and lights in the room are on motion sensor so as soon as you stop moving they shut off. Makes for a hot night. Most items in bathroom like Qtips ect packages were empty!. Mini bar is supposed to be filled daily. We had to call time after time for this free service. The expedition service writers were a rip off. Expedia has same services much cheaper and right in the hotel. Did Punta Cana buggies tour also a disappointment. Buggies were old broken and dangerous and the entire tour was just bringing you to places th locals could try to sell you stuff. The resort, beach and area were nice but for the price and promise it was disappointment. Averostar is supposed to be much better. I would HIGHLY recommend this resort to anyone looking for a great all-inclusive vacation. We thought that visiting in June would mean uncomfortably hot weather, but it was really perfect with the ocean breeze. One evening the butler set up a bubble bath with rose petals, chocolates, and sparkling wine. How much more romantic can you get if you're there with your mate? We spent a morning at the spa, which was a little pricey, but the staff there also made it a worthwhile visit. The evening entertainment could leave a little more to be desired, but we weren't really there for those events anyways. The only thing I did not like about our room is that the toilet stall has a glass frosted door with openings on the top and bottom, just like a typical public restroom, so you feel like there is no privacy in that respect. This was our first all-inclusive vacation and I must say that we might ever do anything but all-inclusive. The hotel was gorgeous, the staff pleasant and helpful, and the amenities were top notch. Our resort was part of the Melia International group so there were even more exclusive upgrades available when we arrived, which we passed on since it was […] our first time in this environment, but we will probably do the next time we go. Do not hesitate to negotiate or simply ask for a better price and while you not get it, they will work with you. Tips was also a nebulous area but we tipped whenever we felt service was exceptional or fast. We found bartenders who kept the drinks coming before you were done...tipped...waiters whose service was speedy and top notch....tipped...maids (who came 3 times per day mind you) who brought you whatever you desired...tipped...I hope you get the point, but that's how we did it and there's nothing that says you can't do it your way. There is no expectation of a tip. The beach was fantastic and relaxing. Our resort included snorkeling, parasailing, and a bunch of other stuff you normally have to pay extra for. I strongly recommend Punta Cana and specifically the Paradisus Palma Real to everyone! Read more

Chose this resort for the unlimited complimentary green fees (for husband) and the all-inclusive offer (for me, I'm pregnant and didn't want to spend vacation deciding food or activities). I have to say we thought this resort was very nice & swanky and had better beach access. It's one star below Four Seasons (2 if you count prompt service & food) […] but for the deal we'd definitely recommend. Our room was great but check-in took forever (welcome to island time) and I was disappointed we had 2 full beds instead of a queen/king but we refused to wait for another room so just enjoyed having 2 beds to use. Another bonus: we went right after Spring Break & right before tropical storm season so the resort was not crowded at all. Never had to fight for huts, wait for towels and VERY FEW FAMILIES/KIDS! Perfect weather-very low humidity so no bugs! We want to pay compliments to our "personal concierge" Edgar Gonzalez; he was extremely professional and spoke the best English (rare). Warning: they press you for some time (90 minutes!) for a "special invitation to their vacation club." We caved in as a favor to Edgar since he looked so disappointed when we tried to decline in advance. Btw: green fees may be free but you still have to rent clubs (if even available), pay for cart, balls and shoes.
