"A good place to stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 30, 2012
This is a good place to stay in Monteverde region. The price was right, the room was comfortable, the staff outstanding! Jose, the manager, was very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The breakfast was good basic food that got us going for the day. The sheets and bed could have been a bit more comfortable, but that said, we slept well. The location is near to the downtown area that we could walk everywhere.

"Nice place in the high grounds"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 22, 2012
I stayed with my two kids. I didn't book until the last minute and called ahead. The owner was kind enough to wait until we arrived. It is at least 30 minutes from Puntarenes if you get good directions, This is located off the beaten path and through winding roads in the higher hillside. Read the fine print and arrive before 9:00. Room was nice, view is beautiful and the drive up to the place is quite scenic. Breakfast was limited. We only stayed for the sleep and did not do any of the activities although we would have if we had time.
"lovely place....would like to go there again"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 24, 2012
beautiful surroundings and you wake up in the morning listening to various birds. hotel gives you a feeling of being in a rainforest with lovely accommodation.
"On a Mountain Top"Reviewed by Daniel D of "Philadelphia, Pennsylvania" on Jan 8, 2012
Very nice, quiet, out of the way place to stay. If you're looking to be away from the hustle and bustle for a while, this is the place to be. Hardly anyone was here during my stay as this place is off the beaten path. The grounds were well kept, and the staff was very nice and accommodating. You should have your own transportation if you stay here-I always do anyway, but I don't know of any way to do the surrounding area without it as far as buses go (or if there are even any in this area at all) since this area and hotel is not too close to any main population center. Taxis are out of the question. Don't think there were any in this area. The food was good at the hotel also. Safety would not be an issue for anyone. The grounds are extensive, and a number of buildings comprise the complex. There is a variety of types of rooms and bungalows. Exploration in this area was enjoyable. The views here are terrific of both lakes, walking and hiking can be done without driving anywhere, and the evenings were amazing for me with the clouds rolling in. Swimming can be done at both lakes, although Lake Coter could be intimidating as it would be an on your own adventure. Guide assistance is available and would be helpful if you choose, as there is a local person doing this, although I did not use him.

"Hotel Lavas Tacotal-More of a youth Hostel"
Location is good..place needs updating, not the cleanest..Lots of tours of students stay there..More of a Hostel feeling with very basic breakfest served with emphasis on quantity not quality to serve the students. Front desk help is poor as well as limited parking because the tour buses take up most of space. Would prob skip next time..very rundown […] feeling with limited perks..Pool is tiny and pretty rough..full of leaves. Fortuna right down street..so location is good..would book tours there..not with front desk.. Read more
very nice environment
"Too far from town."
The room was fine, but we expected more for the price we paid during the high season. Room was nice, but nothing special. The hot tub was not working when we were there which really left little to do in the evenings. This was a large negative for us. Restaurant was again average but nothing special with prices a little higher than average. What we […] learned is -most- hotels will have a volcano view, even some located in town. This is not a unique feature of a hotel. With that said I would stay here again only if it was closer to town. With little amenities and only average food we found ourselves traveling to a day spa or town every day. The problem is because all the taxis start from town a one way trip costs $10 USD. La Fortuna has a lot of different restaurants and some cheaper places to eat. If you are doing a lot of activities and will not sit around the hotel much then you shouldn't have a problem. For us this hotel was not what we were looking for. Read more
"Hotel Lavas Tacotal"
The room was just ok. Clean and more comfortable than our last hotel in Costa Rica. The resturant food is TERRIBLE.
"Boring but okay"
Staff was friendly, hotel was clean, but there was nothing special in the nearby surroundings: the place is good for 1-2 two nights stay.
"Hotel de excelencia"
Alprincipio tuve problemas con mis reservaciones a traves de Hoteles.com, pero el administrador muy amablemente se esmero en buscar e identificar a donde habian ido a parar las mismas y al final tuve un fin de semana excelente en el Hotel Lavas Tacotal.
