Good location as it connects with many of the buses going east-west as well as north-south and is on one of the 2 metro systems. Breakfast was not included in our rate so we tried one day. The location is great but not the best. I visit Kyoto twice or three times a year and have stayed better location than this one. The breakfast is great but costs 2100 yen. I liked this hotel for its convenience and quality, it was a good value. The rooms are a little older , bathroom is small, but everything was clean and I could sleep well. They still use keys attached to sloid plastic sticks with your room number on it instead of keycards. You can let them hold your keys before you go out though. Haha, the biggest gripe for me though is that while they do have cable internet for free, you are not able to connect to World of Warcraft. This place was convenient and decently sized, but kinda gross. The hotel was in a good location with a Starbucks next door and the rooms were larger than expected, which was nice. However, the rooms were pretty dingy for what they were. All of the air vents in the hotel were covered in mold, as well as the bathroom. It was gross having to smell it […] each morning. The bathroom feels like a trailer home bathroom. They literally just slid a bath in there, and it's tiny...the sink will bump you while you're in the shower. I wish I were kidding. This hotel has a serious problem with mold. We actually had to have maintenance wipe down the air vent on the first day because there was too much mold for air to even come out. All in all, it was an ok place to stay but if I ever decided to come back to Kyoto, I probably would try to find somewhere else. By the way, if you do choose to stay here, the best way to get there from Kyoto station is by taking the local metro to shijo station. It drops you off right there, and only costs 210 yen. Don't try to walk. the map on the web site makes it look like it's only a short walk, but it's deceiving. Take the subway. Read more

Karasuma Kyoto Hotel is very well located with many excellent local restaurants in the surrounding streets. The nearby bus stops allow access to all parts of Kyoto especially with the 500 yen all day bus pass. We have stayed at the Karasuma in the past and would stay there again.
