"Incredible Inn; A Few Annoyances"
We went to the Old Edwards Inn to celebrate my wife's birthday. The staff and service is incredible and the inn itself is spectacular. You can really tell there has been a lot of care taken to preserve the history. The floor in our room slanted slightly upward (sounds strange but actually really cool) and the plaster walls looked original. The room […] was a good size, with a desk and sitting area, and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was the star, with a pedestal sink and heated floor. There were a few minor annoyances. First, the bathroom's heated floor system clicks on and off throughout the day and night, and each time it does there is a click loud enough to wake you up. Second, the toilet paper was situated less than a foot from the floor, making it difficult to access from the toilet. Third and most annoying, however, was the room service charge. We were planning to order room service breakfast, and the prices looked reasonable. However, after we chose our meal for the next day, we noticed the service fee of $10.00, plus 25% gratuity, plus tax. Now, I've stayed at several nice hotels over the years which had room service, and had never seen a service fee higher than $3.50. To give you an example of how ridiculous this is, imagine ordering coffee and juice to start your day at a price of $3, and having the bill come to $14.00, or ordering two of their starter breakfasts at $9 each (which we were planning on doing) and having the bill come to $36.50. "Destination for relaxation or revitalization"
My observation of the restaurant staff, front desk clerk, concierge, spa staff, valet, and housekeeping staff is that job # 1 with them was the Comfort and satisfaction of my wife and me. We dined in Madison's on four occasions and were never disappointed. We enjoyed the amenities of our room, the pools, beautiful landscaping, and work-out facilities. […] Hope to return with friends and family in fall or winter. Will look forward to being snowed in at Highlands and Old Edwards! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"High Quality Overnighter..."
Great Location on Main St Highlands, NC. Amenities were outstanding, staff VERY friendly and professional...and helpful. We liked our cottage, though views of the outside world are limited with smallish windows and very enclosed outdoor seating area--but all very private. The 85 degree heated pool and outdoor jacuzzi were welcoming. Signage was discreet […] and they figured you could work your way around easily, so no need for bold signage. If you are a Boomer you will like OEI, especially if your preferred decor is Old World style...as far as contemporary as you can get! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We stayed at old Edwards inn for my birthday. It was beyond my expectations. Service is awesome and their restaurant Madison's was a 5 star too. Highly recommend. The most comfortable bed I have slept in and I have stayed at some great Hotels but this is my all time favorite. Also, a lot of their amenities are complimentary. I found that an added bonus. […] Plus, Old Edwards Inn offers more and a much higher quality than other comparable Hotels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect for a 2 day get-a-way!"
Hubby and I spent two nights here in March. We were there Sunday & Monday nights, so the place was practically deserted. The spa was a wonderful respite, the food at Madison's was good (ate 2 breakfasts) and the location couldn't be better- all of downtown Highlands is within walking distance. We left our kids at home & encourage you do the same:-)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed at the Old Edwards Inn to celebrated our 10th year anniversary. We were treated like royalty and everyone was friendly and helpful. The bedroom was very nice, on the smaller side, but very romantic. The food at Madison's was extraordinary as well as the service. Will definitely go back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Paper thin walls made for a sleepless night. Whatever was going on every hour or so until 4:30 am in one of the rooms adjacent to ours made sleeping impossible. The other adjacent room could be heard as well but at least that "normal" noise ended around midnight. Place was full so to complain would only have embarrassed whomever was doing whatever next door and possibly lead to altercation. Upon advising staff the next morning, I was offered and accepted 1/2 off the rate....I was simply too tired to argue. upon arriving home, I faxed a request for full refund.....never forthcoming nor responded to.
"Very Beautiful & Serene Place"

Was our first trip to Highlands N.C. nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains & to the Old Edwards Inn but will definitely not be our last.We were greeted upon arrival with a cold glass of champagne & taken to our cottage. We stayed in one of the new Falls Cottages which was romantic, secluded & lovely. Our cottage was large & had a front porch which we sat out on at night. The pool & grounds are also lovely. We had dinner at Madison's our first night & was one of the best meals we have ever had. The service at Old Edwards is outstanding & no detail is left unturned to make your stay wonderful! The town is quaint & very non commercial & of course the views in the mountains are awesome. Old Edwards is a convenient walk to most all the restaurants in town. Can't wait to return. Beautiful Inn!

Beautiful place. Fantastic rooms, fantastic service. Better than fantastic staff. We were up there for nieces weeding which was all held on property in different venues which were all fantastic. One of the niciest places I've ever stayed and I've stayed in some of the best all over the world. Fantastic long weekend getaway place for those of us in Atlanta. So nice that I think we'll go back for the foliage change later this fall. I can't believe this was only a 4 star rated resort as I would sure give it 5 stars. I don't know what you have to do to get 5 stars but they deserve it in my opinion. We spent an afternoon in the spa with a couples massage etc and it's the nicest and most well serviced spa I've ever been in.
"Very beautiful place"
We will go again! Mountain grocery around the corner is too long of a wait for breakfast. Madison's restuarant is wonderful. Many international students doing training work the property. Falls cottages were new and very romantic. Cute town to shop inn. Not much nightlife. Great hikes and trails nearby.
"Quiet and wonderful"

The Old Edwards Inn greeted us with a glass of champagne as we arrived. We received a tour of the facility. Our room was lovely, and the bathroom was magnifique! Our spa experience was absolutely top notch. We love going to spas, and would rank this experience in our top 5 choices. The service is outstanding. We absolutely loved the OEI restaurant called Madison's. The food was terrific. We love to eat in gourmet restaurants. This restaurant is one of the best. Our compliments to the chef. The service is what I will remember most about the Old Edwards Inn. Every employee was kind and helpful. Thank you so much for making our 10th anniversary really wonderful. Highlands is a quaint town. During our stay the streets rolled in by 5, and nothing opened until 10 am. I didn't notice anything that looked like a nightlife scene. Highlands and OEI are for a quiet getaway. We did find a couple of great shops.
"A perfect way to experience Highlands"

The Inn actually takes up four blocks in the center of the lovely town of Highlands so the location really can't be beat. Most restaurants and shops are a short walk away. There is an assortment of room, suite and cottage styles to suit everyone's needs. As we were travelling with my Mom, we stayed in one of the 2-bedroom Church Street Cottages. Our mountain chic cottage was beautiful with a large sitting room with a fireplace and plenty of seating; two very spacious, well-appointed bedroom suites - each with a large bathroom containing a large shower and separate water closet and tub area, walk-in closet with a small fridge & keurig station, and finally each with a sizable screened porch with rockers. One of the suites also had a fireplace. We enjoyed drinks at the rooftop bar, breakfast and dinner at Madison's and lunch one day in the Wine Garden. We also spent one afternoon relishing treatments in the lovely Spa which offers a peaceful, calming respite from the days of hiking nearby and walking to the sights around town. From the understated elegance of our cottage to the luxurious pampering at the Spa, the Old Edwards Inn provides a perfect way to experience Highlands.
"Decadent weekend getaway"

Just 2.5 hours from Atlanta, the rooms in this Inn and the Spa provides a lovely escape from reality! Depending on the season,if there is a high number of hotel interns, the service can be a little wobbly.

I am sitting poolside writing this review of our 3 night stay in a lodge room at Old Edwards . My husband and I have traveled around the world and have stayed at many fabulous places. We really enjoyed this hotel and are already planning to return. The property is lovely - and everything tastefully done. Many things that you would do if you had a private mountain compound for extended family. There are arondack chairs on the lawn, with croquet sets. Rocking chairs on the front porch. Two lovely swimming pools with fountains that mask any ancillary noise. Comfortable lounge chairs with mattresses that are like a comfortable twin bed. Beautiful landscaping. Outdoor fireplaces. Staff is plentiful - nice and helpful. They genuinely seem like they are happy to be here and work here. The room we had was quiet and comfortable. Bed was very comfortable, pillows were great ( see my review of the Inn on Biltmore Estate where this wasn't the case). Nice soft sheets. Plenty of high quality towels in the bathroom which sported double sinks and a heated stone floor. The only thing I didn't love was the tub/shower was very deep and difficult to get out of. I am 5'10"- not sure how someone shorter would handle it? There is no grab bar. There was a large dresser in the front entry. Room was spacious. Bathrobes were dreamy. Nice little touches like free dove bars, free postcards ( seriously a hotel can't pay for the better advertising than a post card from a satisfied guest. Why wouldn't u give free postcards? One hotel we went to would stamp and mail them for free ). Cookies at turn down. Champagne on arrival. Large workout facility - it was a little dark to read on the machines - but it had lots of machines etc. there were classes but we didn't have time to take them. Great outdoor roof terrace for cocktails. Madison's is the signature restaurant. We had a nice meal there but Preferred the food at " On the Verandah". The food/menu was a little heavy for my taste. Service was good and setting was lovely though. Just a personal preference on the food. The town of Highlands is darling- reminds me of nicer ski towns out west - Aspen Sun Valley etc.
"Old Edwards Inn and Golf Course"
09/02/14 Bill C Sandy Springs, Georgia, United States
Our golf group spent 4 days in Highlands, NC and had a wonderful time. My room was in the original Old Edwards Inn and the facility was like a maze from an English mystery novel. A number of staircases, library, reading room, wine bar, butler's room were great to explore. My room was spacious and nicely appointed. Heated tile floor in the bathroom was a treat. Staff was wonderful. Breakfast at Madison's restaurant Was very good and reasonably priced. Also ate dinners at Cyprus and Lakeside restaurants in town and both very good. Three rounds of golf at the Old Edwards Golf Club was an adventure in itself. I have played 66 different courses over the years but none as scenic or challenging as this. The front nine is relatively flat but the back nine climbs the mountains for huge altitude changes between tee and green and magnificent views of the surrounding tree covered mountains. A definite challenge but the views are worth it.
