However, I believe the hotel was not designed to be a hotel but rather apartments so you must walk through the outside to get from your room to the reception or to the restaurant. We stayed at the Hilton Lake Taupo for 2 nights on our honeymoon tour around NZ. The staff was wonderful and very helpful. They were able to suggest great activities and book us on our hike for Tongariro Crossing. The hotel itself is very nice and clean. Exactly what you'd expect from a Hilton. We had a lakeview room with a small deck area that had […] a table and chairs. There is a view of the lake, but it is a bit in the distance. One note is that there is no separation between the deck areas and the man on the deck next to us was smoking a cigar. But as the winds shifted it wasn't too much of a problem. Taupo is a great town, but the hotel is a few minutes drive from the downtown area so having a car is quite useful and perhaps even necessary. Overall, the hotel is very nice, comfortable and modern. Nice hotel. A bit from town (3km?) & not too close to the lake (2km?). Very new with a feel that is a bit sterile although certainly clean & nice. Hotel almost empty when we arrived but not given a larger upgraded room (not even offfered on for a fee). Pool, hot tub, steam, & sauna very nice. Romm a bit small but more than adequate. All was good really.I will say though that it deemed a bit strange for the hotel's need to recover $4.00 from our credit card because of a communication mistake over the cost of a massage. Certainly we owed this but given the value of the accommodation the need to recover this pittance seemed nit picky to me. Fire doors being constantly chocked open […] was also unsettling. Hilton at Lake Taupo is definitely a luxurious weekend treat - it's the fanciest hotel in the area - make sure you book a Lake view room - it's a bit pricey compared to everything in the area - at least 2-3 times more thanthe accomodation you'll find right infront of the lake. Buffet brekky at their Bistro has nice views but not the full selection you'll […] see at other 5 star hotels but it was adequate. Other small things like their bathroom amenities were very lacking - only came with the shower gels and shampoo / soap ... where's the toothbrush etc? bath salts etc to use in the luxuriously modern bathrooms! Quite nice hotel. Incredibly slow check in - avoid the concierge and wait in line! Book early at the restaurant as prime time slots disappear very early. Spider webs all over the chairs outside which was quite off putting for my wife but otherwise very clean.

We brought this gift for my parents for their wedding anniversary. They said the staff were pleasant however they my mother said she was asked for a $100 bond on arrival which she and I were not aware of. She was made to feel like she had to pay or else she couldn't stay. She is not a women to get embarrassed easily but she stated that she did not particularly […] want to give over this money as they had planned to use it for other things while on there stay. Even though this money would be given back it was still the point that she had to give it over to start with. Once this was dealt with she was taken to her room. There room we had booked was meant to have a view and a balcony. She told that the room they had was on the floor level and did no have a view or balcony. This was very unsettling for my parents and myself and siblings as we had paid for the room with the view for there pleasure. She did however the next morning ask about this and was given a compensation breakfast. But this i feel should not have happened to begin with and the Bond should of been specified within the booking arrangements. Read more

Bathroom was great but access to room was tricky with the key system. We stayed an extra night because we enjoyed hotel and the area so much. Although it cost $ 15 taxi fare to Taupo , it was well worth it - speedy service too.

A wonderful hotel, very comfortable : the beds and bedding were excellent. But... I would have to say that although I booked (and paid for) a Lake View King Room, we were on the ground floor, and couldn't see the lake as there was a six foot hedge along the front of our patio. I must also agree with other reviews about the lack of sensible parking options if one did not want to spend even more money for undercover parking. We basically had to park in a paddock at the bottom of the driveway, a long walk if it was raining. We found the Hilton at Lake Taupo to be very well appointed with loads of character. The presentation and the quality of the cooked breakfast was above any buffet I have had previously. We had a room looking over the lake with snow clad slopes of Mt Ruapehu in the background. The staf were very helpful.
