This was a gem, a real gem! Had never been to Winchester, but had experience with Wyndham and was hoping it would be matched at the GW. We were not disappointed. Beautiful, old school style hotel, helpful staff, well appointed rooms, everything was terrific! The hotel is perfectly located in downtown Winchester and convenient to the pedestrian mall with all the town's restaurants. Everything was great until the very last minute, when they pulled a nickel and dime trick. The bill arrives under the door and they have added $1.50 per night for the availability of a safe in each room. The fee is there whether […] or not you use the safe. When you look at the safe you find a notice of the fee, but in recognition that this is a bait and switch pricing tactic they say, If you don't want to pay it, stop at the desk and we'll take it off tab. Say what? Who wants to pay an extra $7.50 for a five night stay? So you thought you were just going to walk out but now you have to go through checkout to get the rip off returned by a very indifferent clerk. For a Wyndham Grand it as about as cheap as it gets, and after a great 5 days giving you a poke in the stomach and souring your mood as you go out the door is the type of short sighted trick you would expect from a much lesser name. The GW hotel was a wonderful respite from a long road trip. I stayed alone with my five-year-old son and felt very safe. The food in the restaurant was wonderful, as we're the beds and linens. My only criticism is that a hotel of this quality should have bathrobes for the guests in the rooms.

Great location downtown by a walking mall with lots of restaurants, history, and shopping. The hotel was wonderful. Great beds, clean and upscale. Three negatives: have to pay 6.50 for parking and there were no changing rooms by the pool, and no free breakfast.

I needed to stay near the courts. This is one-half block away. Very clean and great room. Comfy bed with 6 pillows. I didn't eat there so I can't comment on that.

We went to the George Washington for our 28th anniversary. Our room was nice and neat and clean. The lobby is beautiful. All staff were very nice. I noticed a few maintenance items that needed attention such as numerous scratches on the wood in an elevator, our shower door would not seal shut, and there was a place in the room where the doorknob had […] made a hole in the bathroom wall. We had the "do not distrub" sign on the door up until we were checking out, and 5 minutes before leaving, a housekeeper knocked on the door and then did not wait for an answer, but used her key to open the door. We had a wonderfull time at this hotel. it was very clean and the staff did everything they could to make our stay terrific. We did not eat in the dining room during our stay, but understand from other guest it was very nice. The hotel is close to everything in Old Town Winchester. We walked to shops, places to eat and attractions. We had a King Room. […] It was well appointed and the bathroom was was large and stylish with a walk in shower. The room was rather small with large furniture, but we had no complaints. I would book a junior suite if I was staying more than a couple of days. Overall a great stay. I do not like their automatic safe-charge ($1.50 @ night). You can tell them you didn't use it as your are checking out. But why should the guest who is in a hurry have to haggle? Otherwise the place is excellent.

Winchester is a charming, small town and makes for a great long weekend getaway. It is nice to stay in a hotel that has character and doesn’t feel like a standard highway exit chain operation. The rooms are nice and well maintained. The public areas are all attractive. I was surprised to be charged a parking fee in a small town like this. I can understand […] in a big city where many people don’t arrive by car. But most people must need a car to get there. So everyone must have to pay the fee. I hate extra fees that are unavoidable. Just up the rate by $5 instead of charging me later for parking. My only other complaint has to do with the pool. The hot tub was so incredibly hot that I (and others in the pool area) couldn’t stay in for more than 2 minutes. And it was full of bubbles (?) like a bubble bath. This made it dangerous for seeing the steps, especially since there wasn’t a rail. Read more

The room was nice. The bathroom was great. Dancing Goat (hotel restaurant) was unrealistically pricey. Food nor service matched the expense. The pool/hot tub was nice. The exception I spoke of was there was a reception or other gathering of some sort on pur 2nd night. We were on the second floor and our entire room vibrated for hours!! I could sing […] the lyrics to each song it was so loud! It was finally over just after midnight. We were there for New Years Eve. The hotel experienced several "technical difficulties" which caused most of the hotel guests to be locked out of their rooms for several hours around the midnight hour. Considering the scope, difficulty, and timing of the problem the staff remained focused on resolving the difficulties and making sure the guests were […] as comfortable as possible. We appreciated their attention to our needs and the fact they worked so hard to keep the New Years celebration uninterupted. The staff should be congratulated on handling the situation so well. I know many employees put in extra long hours and had to deal with many unhappy guests. I was with a group of ten guests and we were all well taken care of.
