"Could Be Much Better"
I stayed there for 2 nights in Oct 2014. The location isn't really near Watford (e.g. there's not a hope of hell of walking into Watford since its literally miles away - 10 minutes drive if there is no traffic - but there always is traffic since the roads in Watford are atrocious). Its located in a rather isolated spot right beside the motoway to London […] (literally), and there's not much around there to do at night (especially for eating). Given the price I was paying and that its a Hilton was expecting a better room. It was boiling hot with the heating turned off, which opening the windows didn't help at all. The breakfasts were surprisingly poor - badly cooked greasy sausages especially. Premier Inn actually has much better breakfasts (which is saying something, since I can't stand Premier Inn hotels - I'd rather stay on the street than stay in a Premier Inn). The restaurant is one of those overpriced places that charges a lot for tiny plates. Needless to say, dinner was not satisfying. Food quality was fine, but I really don't like being made to pay lots of money for small amounts of money. All in all, it was disappointing. It was not the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, and the staff are nice, but I don't think I'd go back. The hotel requires extensive modernisation and was only booked as it was believed that the Hilton name would afford a level of quality and ambience. This hotel is too far from public transport. It was dirty. It smelled bad. It had no free wifi in the rooms. We didn't even stay. We checked out 30 minutes after we checked in. "Great Hotel but ........"
No complaints about the Hotel itself but unfortunately there was a large wedding party the same day as our stay. The music was still blaring at 1.00am and then the party guests were very drunk and rowdy in the hotel and outside way into the early hours.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Completely overshadowed by a poor mattress situation and inadequate response when poor condition of mattress which had resulted in a very uncomfortable night was brought to the hotels attention. "First, the good things..."
The room we finally got was clean, good value (we got a "summer saver" rate) and the basement bar had a great clubhouse feel with nice staff. At breakfast, the staff were lovely, and the selection of food items was really good. BUT: it's ridiculous to charge £15 for 1 day's internet access, most travellers now need wifi, and other hotels provide it […] for free. Hilton should do the same. And our real complaint: we arrived at 6pm to be told we'd been booked in at 3pm. Only your staff couldn't find any paperwork – not even the registration form which every guest is meant to sign on arrival. So they told us it must’ve been a clerical error, booked us in, and gave us passkeys to our room: which had someone else's suitcases and possessions in it, when we entered. That is: your staff had booked in an unknown person, who couldn't have had our booking confirmation, who was in our room – and we had a credit card open on that booking. We returned to reception, who had no idea how this had happened, and we were eventually given another room, which (as noted), we liked. But what on earth was going on? "Not what I expected"
From the pictures the Hilton Watford have advertised, I thought it would be like any other Hilton but god I was wrong! I booked a King Room and paid in advance. The location was meant to be near the Watford Junction train station and to the Warner Brothers Studio which us our reason for the visit. However the hotel was in the middle of am industrial […] site with no shops around and right next to a motorway. There were no bus stops and if you wanted to walk to the train station (which we end up having to do when checking out) if took us 45 minutes! It was horrendous. On arrival, I was greeted by a woman who acknowledged I paid in advance but then asked for a £50 security deposit. Never have I ever had to pay a security deposit when staying at any other Hilton but this woman was adamant it was a policy. (Since returning home, I've rang customer services and was told this is not one of their policies unless it is on a group booking). I paid the deposit, went to the room and it was tiny. I asked for a king room and I was shocked. There was a 70's theme with the furniture and bathroom. The bed was ok but the only good thing about the room was the pillows. You are charged for wifi and for certain channels and movies so be aware before browsing. Breakfast was until 10am which once again was lacking. If was mainly full of pre business meetings and the food was cold. I was disappointed. I'm still waiting for the £50 to be returned to my account.
