I arrived 10.30pm check in was slow due to 'computer issues' The room was clean but very, very tired. There was a smell of chlorine along the whole corridor I was on which also permeated the room - I presume the swimming pool was located below me - If I hadn't been so tired myself I would have asked to be relocated. The final disappointment was that the reading light on the bed was so poor I had to have the two bright room lights on to read in bed. Check out the following day was prompt and efficient.

We booked a room as we were going to the Harry Potter Studios which are close by to the hotel. We were very happy with the room, the location and the staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was very nice also.

we were told by reception that we were not in a good room it had not been refurbished but that was the way it was! we had booked for dinner the week before for 8 guests and booking was taken then on the night there was a horrible buffet and only after saying we would leave was a small menu brought. All food cold and had to be sent back and over cooked - though head waiter in restaurant very nice lady. Was up all night with guests shouting and running along the corridors

I had such a comfortable stay at the Hilton Watford. Everything was first class but what stood out most of all, was the staff (especially the reception staff, the manager there and the girl who had only recently joined). They were professional, helpful, accommodating and so very welcoming. I couldn't have asked for better help and care and all they did for me was so greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this hotel based on all it has to offer, but most of all, based on it's wonderful staff.

The room was a bit drab and dated. It was very very very hot. It was ok for a nights sleep although some other guests were very noisy and woke me up. Room could be updated a bit.

The hotel was very good. the only thing that bothered me was that it was quite cold at night and the toilet flush was problematic. However on the whole the hotel is very good, and the swimming pool was a great addition.

Very comfortable bedroom but the door to the en-suite jammed on the floor and had to be forced when you wanted to shut it. There were no subtitles on the TV in the bedroom,(awful for those who are deaf as I am,) the lift was broken I had to use the stairs, god help those in wheelchairs. Otherwise very nice.

The hotel is starting to look like it could do with a refurb in certain areas. Also, the lift was not working and one of the staff said it had been out of action for almost two weeks. My room key was constantly failing which was an irritation especially as the room was on the second floor at almost the furthest point. I had to have it reprogrammed every time I left the room. Apart from that, everything else was fine, but I'm afraid it's not the typical standard you would expect of a Hilton. The staff were as you would expect though, courteous, efficient and willing to help

It started with the struggle to find parking because they had Xmas parties at the hotel. The response from staff was "It's free! Other Hotels charge £5!!". Then their computer system was down. I ended up hanging around reception for nearly 30 minutes. We were eventually offered a complimentary drink. When I eventually got the room it was a very long trek from reception. To my horror the room looked nothing like the king Deluxe room I booked. From the dull grey decor, bathroom, furniture to room size - nothing resembled the online photos & description! It looked like an executive room for a business person who wants no frills. Bathroom : For 2 people- only one face towel, one flannel & one shower gel. It took 2 calls to reception to get this right. I just thought, how difficult is it to ensure there are enough towels etc in each room. PLUS the old the tv that wouldn't turn on. Overall I felt to return home but didn't because of the effort I'd gone to to get someone to stay with my disabled mum to give me a night off! The only area that wasn't a let down was the breakfast and the restaurant staff was very helpful. I've stayed at this hotel at least 3 times earlier this year in a standard room. The previous experiences were better in every way. I took photos of the room but unfortunately can't attach them

Bed was rock hard and had the worse nights sleep ever. When I did wake up my back was so painful. Never had a problem in any Hotel before.Was there for a xmas party. The food (3 course xmas dinner)was not great at all and I was very shocked that the quality did not match the quality you would expect from the Hilton. I Left most of it as it was pretty poor. Prices at the Bar were over the top too. Apart from that the staff were all very friendly and the appearance and cleanlinessof the Hotel and Facilities were excellent.

My first impression of the hotel was BROWN - everything is brown and it looks like it hasn't been updated since the 1980's. The carpet in our room was stained and the corridor was a bit smelly. It felt like a budget hotel instead of a Hilton. However, the staff were very very nice and helpful - everyone who worked there was brilliant., welcoming and friendly.

This was a single night stop over on route to Hemel Hempstead. Ideally located near to the M1, but I would not want to be here longer term. This hotel was Hilton in name only, very tired looking. Having to pay for the internet access in rooms was disappointing, given it was free in public areas. The standard of service from the Bar & Restaurant staff was the only redeeming feature.

I stayed at the Watford hilton because of the location. Very close to Harry potter Warner studios. On arrival it took almost 20 mins to speak to someone about storing luggage, without even checking in. We were in three separate rooms as there was 7 of us. Each room had something wrong - one smelled of smoke (they were non smoking rooms), one smelt of sick, and in the other one there was ash on the window sill that blew in when we opened the window to clear the smell. Overall the rooms were clean but dusty. We were on the first floor but had a baby in a pram, which proved challenging when using the lift - the lift didn't work on about 90% of the times we attempted to use it, so we were forced to carry baby and pram down the small cramped stairs. The nights sleep was good. Beds comfy and warm. The following morning I attempted to dry my hair with the in room hairdryer - my hairdryer didn't work, and in the other two rooms, they turned off intermittently. Overall the stay and comfort was okay, but missing those finishing touches and daily conveniences that would be expected from a hilton brand

It was quite good value. £67 for the night with full breakfast (Winter rate early December). The room was spacious, but would have liked a bit more heating or at least loan of a hot water bottle. Disappointed to find the swimming pool closed at 7.00 pm Sunday night. The hotel's information indicates that it's open until 9.00 pm.

We booked the Hilton as we had expected great service and comfort having stayed at other Hilton hotels. However, were greatly disappointed, during check in had to wait a great deal of time to be checked even though it wasn't rushed, only 2 people ahead of us. The room was average we would say not to the same standard as other Hilton hotels. One of the table lamps did not work and we would expected before we check in the room is checked and if bulbs need changing they are changed before the guest enters and not the following morning when they are going to check out. For what we paid for the night we were surprised that for wifi was not inclusive. The other staff were courtesy. En-suite was clean. The breakfast was good, a wide range of selection. Overall for the price we paid we would not stay here again.

Very outdated hotel with poor cleanliness of rooms. It looks like the hotel hasn't had any investment or upgrades since the 80's. Overall comfort and stay were extremely disappointing.

Very tired hotel for Hilton. Next to busy, dirty dual carriageway. Room was average but peeling wallpaper, chipped and worn desk and rusty silicone areas in shower. Shower head also set at max about 5ft so had to crouch down to have a shower. I would have been absolutely fuming if I'd paid the exorbitant full price !!

Generally a very good hotel. Staff were polite. Service was quite slow in the bar area considering it was relatively quiet. Food good but as with many hotels, very expensive for what it is. Rooms were comfortable, just very dated.

Really nice hotel in an easily accessible area for travel in to London. The low overall score is for the rock solid bed which was not much softer than the floor, everything else was great but hotels have one main job in my opinion, a good nights sleep.

booked a non-smoking room, got put in a smoking room as apparently there were no non-smoking rooms available, not pleasant for a non smoker! guy on reception was particularly room, the room was dire and noisy! would not recommend!

I stayed there for 2 nights in Oct 2014. The location isn't really near Watford (e.g. there's not a hope of hell of walking into Watford since its literally miles away - 10 minutes drive if there is no traffic - but there always is traffic since the roads in Watford are atrocious). Its located in a rather isolated spot right beside the motoway to London (literally), and there's not much around there to do at night (especially for eating). Given the price I was paying and that its a Hilton was expecting a better room. It was boiling hot with the heating turned off, which opening the windows didn't help at all. The breakfasts were surprisingly poor - badly cooked greasy sausages especially. Premier Inn actually has much better breakfasts (which is saying something, since I can't stand Premier Inn hotels - I'd rather stay on the street than stay in a Premier Inn). The restaurant is one of those overpriced places that charges a lot for tiny plates. Needless to say, dinner was not satisfying. Food quality was fine, but I really don't like being made to pay lots of money for small amounts of money. All in all, it was disappointing. It was not the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, and the staff are nice, but I don't think I'd go back. I'd recommend the Holiday Inn Express in Watford over this, since its location is great, and you're not playing over the odds for things.

The hotel requires extensive modernisation and was only booked as it was believed that the Hilton name would afford a level of quality and ambience. The room over looked a dirty and dilapilated rear entrance, the decor was akin to stepping back into the 80's. Really disapointed that i chose this venue. Room service resulted in 5 calls being made to the room: 1 to check the level of service and the remainder questioning payment ??!! The staff were friendly but given the expense and local compition i expected better.

This hotel is too far from public transport. It was dirty. It smelled bad. It had no free wifi in the rooms. We didn't even stay. We checked out 30 minutes after we checked in. The staff was friendly and helpful and didn't give us any trouble about checking out. I have never been so disappointed in a highly reviewed expedia hotel. DO NOT STAY HERE unless you want to be in Watford. If you are staying in Watford for the price but are visiting London, THIS IS A HORRIBLE OPTION.

Great staff, comfy large room but PLEASE put some power points on the wall next to the bed and seriously NO-ONE charges for wifi in the rooms these days - even McDonalds and your average pub WIFI is free - sort it out Hilton, lets you down.

No complaints about the Hotel itself but unfortunately there was a large wedding party the same day as our stay. The music was still blaring at 1.00am and then the party guests were very drunk and rowdy in the hotel and outside way into the early hours.

Completely overshadowed by a poor mattress situation and inadequate response when poor condition of mattress which had resulted in a very uncomfortable night was brought to the hotels attention. The rest of the stay had been pleasant, good service , nice food but despite explaining both locally and via the hotel chain customer service department. There has been no apology or reassurance that the problem will be addressed.
