"Amazing hotel right at Canggu Beach"
From start to finish, an amazing experience. Walking in, the hotel receptionist immediately walks you through all the amenities and asks what they can do to make your stay perfect. I asked to move rooms once and they were so prompt it was amazing. Seriously, I've stayed at some of the best hotels in the USA and Africa, and this is definitely one of […] my best stays ever. I would recommend it without any hesitation or reservation. A+++ Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful authentic Balinese Hotel"
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Hotel Tuga in Bali. We had a beautiful room with it's own private pool, a koi fish pond and fantastic authentic furnishings. The room had beautifully carved wooden doors and a lush garden. The hotel had a lovely ancient deco which made you feel as though you were actually getting the true Bali experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Unique Lombok luxury hotel at the beach"
Luxurious hotel on the beach in Lombok. Mostly couples of all ages - very romantic atmosphere, candles everywhere at night. Beach is not really swimmable because of coral and rocks coming right up to the shore, but a dip is great. Lovely huge pool. Wide expanse of empty beach, walk for hours in either direction with few people except pearl divers. Beach […] drinks service great - great quality tropical drinks brought right to your chair. Nightly private dining steps from the ocean. Food is excellent, but pricey. Service is tops - staff called us by name on day one, and warmly welcomed my teenage daughter. Exclusive and worth the price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"great hotel off the beaten track"
Bali is overpopulated with terrible traffic. This place is an oasis but it is stressful to get here. It has some rooms with pools, though ours was a little green =. In compensation, the management let u use the 0wner's villa. If I had to do it again, I would spend less time in Bali - overrated but this place is fine, and like a museum.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The most interesting hotel I've ever stayed at..."
There is nothing quite like Tugu Bali. While Canggu Beach leaves much to be desired, Tugu is itself a destination worth visiting. I only wish I had had more time to take it all in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"You just have to try this hotel!"
Depends on hundreds of reviews with all 5stars on TripAdvisor, made booking one day before. Had a warm welcome when check in, and sweet gifts when check out by hotel manager. It's a member of a boutique hotels group, full with collections, super nice style. Got a private pool with in my room, walk to the beach just by through its backyard. It's only […] have 21 rooms, that makes this hotel a quiet and peaceful place. To me, it's a small luxury hotel style, and it's different from those international hotels groups, those hotels are good, but just with the same styleEverything's good, facilities, food, spa, etc. Two small complaints: wifi isn't fast, and hot water isn't 24x7(these two happened in other hotels as well, but not all of them in Bali). Guests get a free transport when they leave. Before, I was not satisfied with Bali at all. After, Bali is not that bad to me. Better if the group could design its loyalty program for guests. "Quiet, peaceful, cultural experience in Canggu"
Hotel Tugu is one of those hotels that where from the moment you enter you know this is a special place. From the room suite complete with your own Koi pond to the massage in the spa it is all class. The Thursday evening Balinese dance performance with dinner was an unforgettable experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was traditional Bali and very nice. Service was fabulous and food was also pretty good. Beautiful architecture. A little pricey for what it is but still a lovey experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Booked a wedding package at hotel Tugu. The hotel was picture perfect! Every inch of the hotel had something interesting to see. The antique furniture and decorations were amazing. "The best place in Bali - bar none!"
Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! As someone who has travelled 5 star for a number of years (15) and who meticulously researches expedia/tripadvisor etc, I have to tell you that this place is special. We turned up not knowing what to expect and were completely blown away - the pics dont do it justice. A 5 star resort but feels like "old" Bali.. Serene, calm, peaceful, […] soul cleansing, heaven. Ari and Maggie set the tone with superb service - an amazing entrance and even more amazing rooms - done with that "old Bali" feel of dark woods, exotic scents, rich fabrics and comfort - a real taste of Bali - NOT the Kuta/Seminyak experience where you dont dare venture out of your 5 star hotel (although Kuta is only 30 mins away and AUD$7 to get there!). The pool and the beach - a surfing beach - are amazing - there is no one selling you stuff, the food is great and there are numerous cafes around the complex. We stayed in Room 203 - like a 5 star treehouse overlooking the ocean - absolutely beautiful - waking up to breakfast in your own luxury room, opening your sliding doors to another room with 180 degree views of the ocean followed by lounging by the pool or the fantastic day beds by the ocean - bliss. I could not recommend highly enough - what a secret little piece of heaven. Go now, as I dont reckon this will be a secret long! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful hotel, very private and comfortable"
The room was fantastic, a standard double. Loads of space. Small private pool in pretty back garden to the room. Rustic appearing bathroom was attractive and practical. Very interesting and picturesque hotel, with well maintained grounds. The staff were great. Everyone was extremelyhelpful, and the service was impeccable. The food was fantastic. We […] tried many of the Balinese and Javan meals, and enjoyed them all. No complaints whatsoever. The beach was very close and a waiter was always on hand to fetch drinks and food. "Delightful hotel with Balinese feel"
We wanted somewhere in Canggu to stay and the Hotel Tugu was just perfect . from the moment you arrive and walk into the massive reception room which has the most enormously high pitched ceiling , all Balinese and open windows overlooking lush green garden you know you have arrived somewhere special. The dining choices are wonderful and the food was […] great. we stayed in an upstairs suite - comfy bed , spacious, with sea views which was lovely . I think next time we ll try the downstairs suite with own plunge pool- but both are lovely. The main pool is very pleasant , and this part of the garden opens to the beach road so you can walk over a grassy area to the Tugu beach chairs. A short walk, less than 10 minutes along the beach takes you to Echo beach which is popular with surfers. echo beach has cafes and seafood BBq in the evenings , like going back intime to the 70's. Dont know how long this vibe will remain though as there are many buildings going up all over Canggu. But the tranquility and style of Hotel Tugu is a real haven and worth seeking out. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. In all we really enjoyed Tugu and will be back for the authentic Balinese hospitality. Dont go if you want super slick , modern! This hotel is totally charming because it is quite unique. A gem . Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

What a beautiful example of traditional Bali. Such serene surroundings and delightful staff, nothing was too much trouble. The Hotel is best suited to couples who enjoy the peace away from the busy shopping areas and traffic. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Love this hotel!"
Could not speak more highly of this hotel. Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating to all our needs and the layout and decoration of it was spectacular. It is a little out of the way of the main town but the hotel is happy to arrange free transport when they can, and reliable taxis all other times. In my opinion, perfect setting for […] a honey moon or just a well deserved couples retreat. Would definitely recommend Hotel Tugu and stay there again whenever I can! "Great botique hotel"
This hotel has it so together. Everything from the location, food, staff, room service, and room care is just spot on. Our driver (Dewa) always went that extra mile (no pun intended) to make sure our tours showed us the real Bali. The manager was always checking to make sure we were happy and looking for feedback. "Stunning and magical."
Everything about this hotel is magical. It started with a free airport pick up with cool towels and fruits, and then arriving into the Bale Agung Hall was romantic and breath taking. We stayed in a Dedari suite which was private with its own plunge pool, and outdoor bathroom surrounded by koi carp pond. The turn down service and constant yet invisible […] restocking of towels and water was thoughtful and well measured with flower displays and beautiful notes left everyday. The grounds of the hotel are stunning and very well kept. The location is right by the beach, and its very tranquil. The spa is amazing and we were given free massages as we stayed for a week. The new year celebrations were super, again the thought and effort was incredible. The staff are by the far the best I have expereinced in any hotel, and organised us personal itineries for visits with lots of helpful advise. We genuinely felt like crying when we left as we had such a wonderful time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Uniquely Balinese, beautiful, personal, special"
We had a wonderful stay in this one of a kind property. Hotel, interiors and grounds are very much the highly developed, detailed, personal vision of the owner. Here, the Balinese history, culture, aesthetic and people truly shine. There is an air of being hidden away in a separate world of romance, a languid pace and another time. Almost an air of […] fantasy. Very special. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The best hotel we've stayed in"
04/25/15 cathnola802 London, UK
We stayed in the villa which had a private pool, pond and dining area. Unusually the minibar wasn't free but that's no big deal. For us the best thing about the hotel was that there were no schedules. You could wake up and order breakfast when you wanted where you wanted. This also means that if you want private dining everyday you can have it. There's a great selection of food, trips and spa treatments. We stayed for Thursday night cultural evening which included some Balinese dancing, it was a joy to watch. The owner of the hotel is an art collector and the manager, Marta, gave us a tour pointing out some some of the pieces from his private collection. She was very knowledgeable and helpful, as were all the staff. They even arranged for us to see a ceremony that was happening at a local temple.
"Staying in a museum"
04/25/15 Chentou93 Hong Kong, China
What to say about this hotel, one of the finest one I have ever stayed. The hotel itself is like a museum, with very fine and nice balinese or javanese antics (the owner is an antic collector). The hotel is very nice to stroll around, close to Canggu beach and quite remote from the hectic days of the south Bali. The service is perfect, the amenities as well and the food, expensive for Bali, but worth it if you consider the quality and the quantity. There is a complimentary afternoon tea, which changes every day with homemade and local delights. The breakfast is very good and with lots of choices (we had plenty of fruits and vitamins). The Dedari suite is comfortable and nice, with an outdoor pool and bathtub. If you go there, don't forget to have a guides tour of the hotel.
"Art on the Beach !"
04/21/15 FrenchTravelFamily London, United Kingdom
We had a lovely room full of pieces of art, with a small private pool, right in front of the beach The lobby is extraordinary You can eat wherever you want in the hotel some fantastic great local food, or more international if you wish... Just ask and they will set the table for you The staff is smiling and warm, always here to help and guide you this is a luxury Bali to live Bali differently, far from the crowdy beaches
"Go here - it's HEAVEN. A must. MUST. MUST. MUST."
04/19/15 KitterMM M Boston, Massachusetts
First of all, everyone here is delightful. I stayed two nights and was seriously teary eyed as I waved goodbye to the many smiling faces of the staff. Also, it's heaven... The rooms are magnificent. I stayed in a Rejang suite. I think this is their standard room and it is anything but standard. Beautiful four poster bed, shower, enormous tin tub, desk looking out on a lily pond... It's a two minute walk to the beach, my massage was wonderful, the food is delicious. I could go on and on and on but best to just go yourself:) Enjoy! (Oh, and in comparison to other luxury hotels like The Four Seasons, it is just as lovely if not more lovely because it is more intimate and Tugu is a fraction of the price.)

The Tugu is in a great location seconds from the beach, so great surfing, and beautiful sunsets. Some rooms have a great beach view and the restaurants near the Tugu have some of the best food EVER. Overall staying at the tugu was an Amazing experience and I hope I get the chance to make a return visit. Anyone who is thinking about visiting bali, You really should stay at the Tugu. It will be the best trip to Bali you will ever have. And The Hotel is SUPER nice. They also have mind blowingly good Banana Smoothies.
"The Best vacation you can dream of"
04/15/15 cmlopez8 Santiago, Chile
We were received by the Marta, the Manager, who explained everything about the hotel and the wonderful antique displays in the hotel. It is like staying in an antiques gallery surrounded by beautiful artwork. Antique doors, windows, decorations and furniture were everywhere and in use. The suite was spacious, with a fish pond in the front and a private pool in the back with a a swing bed. If you are looking for a romantic, peaceful and quiet place, this is it. The staff bent over backwards to comply with every wish we had. On Thursday, the hotel brought a team of dancers to perform for us during dinner. That was a treat. Food was very good. The hotel´s spa was also a nice thing to have since we like massages. at Marta´s suggestion we tried the Mantra massage, which turned out to be something new for us and we loved it. In all fairness, yes, the hotel is undergoing some construction, but we only heard them one day in the early afternoon and they were not invasive o annoying, at all. Irma, the weekend manager, met us to thank us for staying at the Tugu Hotel and made sure our checkout was processed without a glitch. The icing on the cake was when most staffers in the hotel came out to say and wave goodbye to us as we left to the airport. That was very thoughtful and made us fell very good. In short, if you appreciate art, peace and quite, this is the hotel for you.
""Amazing" doesn't really do it justice"

It is difficult to explain how lovely this hotel is. Everything from the authentic Balinese antiques, to the setting, lush vegetation, beautiful and unique furnishings, service and setting make it one-of-a-kind. We had all sorts of outings planned but ended up staying in the room, at the pool or in the gardens most of the time, with an occasional outing to the beach or to the surfer bar, Old Man's, next door. Tugu is really spectacular. Just go.

Stunning place with beautiful artwork and thoughtful details. Feel immersed in a Balinese haven! Staff are also very friendly and helpful. A stone's throw from the well known surfers beach and hang out. Although not a pristine / picture book tropical beach (which bali is not known for anyway), it is nicer than I expected after reading reviews of 'scruffy black beach.' The sand is not white but is isn't black either, more like a deep beige! We went for walks and runs, plus sunset strolls! Although we sunbathed and hung out by the pool in the hotel which is more relaxing. Food at the hotel was good and enjoyed the massages! Seminyak is a short drive away if you want to go shopping or fancy going out for dinner/drinks. We took a trip to Ubud for a day to visit the monkey forest and explore Ubud. Overall Bali has a nice feel to it, although it is very touristy and busy! Tugu is like a sanctuary; a nod to Bali's past.

From the moment we walked along the entrance into the hotel until the moment we left with our complimentary travel basket of fruit & water we felt at peace at hotel tugu. It's truely a unique place to have stayed. We couldn't help but relax and take in the serenity within the hotel grounds, pools, stone pathways, fish ponds, antique collections, beautiful art works, delicious traditional meals, invisible housekeeping.. which blew us away- it was as though they were truely 'fairies' Hotel tugu definently has that charm factor. Right across the road from old man's bar and adjacent to a local surf hotspot. If your looking for true peace and quiet in a tucked away spot on the beach with old charm style hotel than this is it :-)
"Gorgeous hotel, lovely staff, wonderful art and history"
03/25/15 Catwomantrish Melbourne, Australia
It was our first trip to Bali without our now adult children so we decided to spurge a bit on accommodation. We stayed in the Walter Spies Pavilion which was stunning. The massive bed was amazing. Everything was wonderful; food, service, pool, gardens, massage etc I was even given a surprise birthday cake delivered to our room! The Balinese dancers were some of the best we have ever seen. We enjoyed the history behind the architecture, decor and stunning rooms
