The hotel has an excellent location with breathtaking views of the bay, a nice stretch of private beach, and although it is not close to the Old City, the Bus 4 gives an excellent hassle-free transfer. The room (singe) was not very comfortable: extremely small bathroom, narrow single bed, but the balcony compensated some. Fantastics views of the bay and located just ten to fifteen minutes from the old city via bus(no. 4) caught in front of hotel every twenty minutes all day long. The front desks sells individual bus tickets for 10 kunas as oppose to paying 12 to the bus driver. Get the breakfast included in your fare, otherwise its 75 kunas(15 bucks). Hotel is fine. I had a single room reservation with "park" view. The park is just the back side of the hotel with green area. When I got there I asked for a seaview and they gave it for an extra ten euros a day. It was low season, and not all rooms were occupied, so I think they could have done the room without the extra cost. Desk people were friendly […] and helpful with bus schedule, tours, greetings. One night there was no hot water at night or the morning, and the only explanation was that some pump broke with so many people...something that should have been corrected that night, but it wasn't. Compensation was offered in a "capuccino or glass of wine". Location on the bus line was the best thing about the hotel, with sea in front, very quiet at night. This hotel has an amazing view from your windows. French doors open to the Bay, and the private beach area, an excellent way to wake up, and a great way to end your day. The room was very clean, small, but comfortable. The surprise came when we checked out... While in Dubrovnik, my debit card account had been compromised. M y bank gave me a number […] to dial so I could call them collect. I asked the front desk how I could do that, and they just told me to use the phone in my room. I could not get the call to go through the way they told me to, so one of the staff came and placed the call. Counting hold time, I was on the phone for 20 minutes. When we checked out, they made me pay the U.S equivalent of $40 for that call. THEY WOULD NOT BEND. I assume a call from a pay phone would have been free. This hotel should have told me what the charges would be in advance, since they knew the situation and told me to place the call. For that reason, I would not suggest you stay here. The hotel is a 3-star rated, but it really has all the conveniences and services of four stars. I was guaranteed a Kind Bed room and at check-in they put me in a 'prison cell' with a 90 cm wide bed. I haven't slept in a small bed like that since I was 12 years old and I had a horrible night. Not only was the bed too small, I could feel every spring of the mattress pressing into my back. Hotel Splendid doesn't really live up to its name, but it is a good 3-star hotel. Rooms were adequate and have nice small balconies (2 chairs and a small table) overlooking the bay. It is set in a shaded neighborhood of mixed hotels and homes on the Lapad Peninsula a short bus ride away from Old Town Dubrovnik. The staff was pleasant, and the included […] breakfast buffet was very good and served on a lovely terrace. A bathing beach was onsite and there is a beach bar located right above it. The restaurant looked nice and the menu was good, but we did not try it. There is access to a (mostly) paved walkway that follows the shoreline around the bay past restaurants, small markets and a public park. It is a very pleasant walk. We didn't have a car -- and didn't need one -- but there appeared to be parking onsite. On the downside, There are many stairs -- the hotel is on a hillside between the street and the bay -- and no elevator. It is certainly not handicapped accessible. We stayed in a standard double room at Hotel Splendid, and the accommodations were just fine. Many of the balconies' views are partially blocked by large trees behind the hotel, which was a shame. Access to the beautifull bay of lupad is just at the bottom of the hotel garden, Not much for a sandy beach but no one is bothering you with extras or paying for a brolly etc. Tennis court seemed always available. Location was great being able to walk to the local town within 5 minutes, far enough away not to be noisy and close enough to be local. There is a bus stop for Dubrovnic within 2 mins. All the staff are totaly helpfull and the location great. Rental of kayaks, sail boats, and jet skis are all available localy, and there is a its a knockout style water park in the bay, propper fun for big and little kids/adults. Read more

Not a bad hotel, location great with the bus number 4 into town. Beach area stoney as is the coast line of Croatia, area gets very busy with locals (which wasn't a problem) and the bar area gets very busy; you do have to pay for the sun loungers. Not a bad location for sun and swimming.

We could walk just a short distance into the little town there, and if we wanted to go into the old city of Dubrovnik we just took a bus. Fantastic location and view. Problem is the hotel does not appear to have been refurbished or had a coat of paint since the communist sixties. Rooms small and shabby but kept clean. On our first night there was a terrible stink from the antiquated bathroom. We were moved without problem. Very little is happening at the hotel so staff seem to sit around […] smoking and looking bored. The impression is that the hotel is part of a group and is at the end of the line for investment. A shame because the site has great potential. All guests seem to use the hotel for sleeping only and leave ASAP each morning and dine, drink and sunbath elsewhere (extra charge for sunloungers and beach towels doesn't help). I've heard lots of mixed reviews about this hotel. Please be assured for the price you pay you get a lot of bang for your buck! The reception staff are very friendly and the hotel is well laid out with its own private beach, bar, restaurant and rooms naturally. Most if not all rooms have a balcony with a fantastic sea view. The rooms are well maintained […] - maybe a little antiquated (old TV) but honestly why would I travel 1000+ miles to watch the same TV I do at home anyway?? There are also en suites in every room with huge wardrobe, a small mini bar, phone and plenty of lighting. Shutters are also installed. Dubrovnik itself is easily accessible by the number '4' Libertas bus into town and the bus stop is directly outside the hotel. The surroundings of the hotel and Dubrovnik are well worth the visit and excursions are readily available. In fact an excursion 'shop' is just a short walk from the hotel and offer VERY reasonable rates. In late October the weather was very good to us, although we did have one rainy day. Still, Dubrovnik in the rain lights up another whole load of sights. Very sad and yet fascinating that a war has occurred in my lifetime in Dubrovnik where strangely colour pictures of destruction can be found. Excellent repair has been made so far and continues on. I absolutely loved the hotel and Dubrovnik and would very much visit there again. The perfect winter sun get away. Stop reading: start booking. Read more

The setting of this hotel is v good, as it's at a little beach/jetty, with sun loungers, umbrellas, and a little cafe. This makes it a v nice place to while away the day. There are regular buses, taking about 15 minutes, to Dubrovnik. Staff are very nice too. However it is an older three star hotel and so v expensive for what you get.

Although we enjoyed our stay here I would warn other travelers to be prepared for a few things. The breakfast buffet is very disappointing, especially if you are there for a week as we were. Also, the beach is a public beach. Every day after school it filled with squealing preteens playing ball games. Not very relaxing. Always asked us how we were doing each day, remembered our names and room number, assisted with travel plans, etc. The breakfast was really nice with hard-boiled and scrambled eggs, different cold cut meats, cheeses, and breads, croissant, sausage, bacon, yogurt, granola, […] a coffee machine that made cappuccino, hot chocolate and other types of coffee, and a juice machine. Went for a low-season break, looking for value-for-money place. Found it and well-impressed. Hotel is out of Old Town area but is connected to it by the No.4 bus which stops directly outside. Hotel staff were very friendly and the room, overlooking the sea, was fine. Breakfast buffet not fancy but more than adequate. The Hotel Splendid was great. A short walk down the hill to Lapad bars and restaurants (one very nice place which we nearly missed was at the bottom of the hill by the local map and down a short track towards Lapad Beach). Hotel was nice and quiet with its own beach and shelf with sun loungers and steps into the sea. The balconies with sea view offered […] a stunning view and sunset and the buffet breakfast was fine and you could sit out on the terrace overlooking the sea to eat. The only problem was a broken air conditioning unit in our room which did not seem fixable and as it was hot with no breeze this made sleeping a bit difficult. Excursions could be booked at reception and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. A bus went from outside the hotel to Dubrovnik town and took about 15-20 minutes and cost 8 Kuna (about 1 pound) each way which was very easy and bus tickets could be bought at reception. The bus ran til about midnight. Taxi to the airport cost about 230 Kuna (about 25 pounds) and took half an hour. Read more
