The hotel was VERY nice. We had some trouble with room service when we got a bill for $140.00. It was promptly fixed the next morning, the kitchen manager apololgized and was very friendly. The guy who checked me in at the front desk asked me if I wanted Valet parking or if I was going to self park. I told him we would self park and he pointed me towards the parking lot. However, he said NOTHING about it costin $16.00 to do so. They put the bill under the door on checkout day and had already charged my credit card! I spoke with him and told him he should tell people the cost of parking. He asked for my e-mail adress and said someone would contact me and no one ever did. Other than those 2 things, the hotel was in the PERFECT spot and we enjoyed our stay!

There are several restaurant in the Power and Light district within walking distance, but plan on eating that the hotel or venturing into Westport for breakfast.

If you are going to Kansas City and are going to a concert at the Sprint Center and you do not feel like dealing with your car and parking then the Hilton President is pretty much the closest you'll get as far as walking distance is concerned. 2 blocks, that's great. The Hotel it's self on the other hand that is a different story. Perhaps they were running with a skeleton crew the day we were there. If you are in need of anything to eat late at night FORGET IT not even a snack machine to be found... Oh wait I'm wrong there is... It's in the Locked up gift shop. As a former service industry employee staying at this hotel was much like staying at someone's house while they were not there. It was not horrible but it was not great perhaps just under average.

The only down side is that there really isnt any place to "walk" to ... but we had a car so we were fine.

FABULOUS HOTEL. The President Hilton is an historic hotel that has recently been renovated and restored to its former glory. Ours was a junior suite, I think, which was very nice but was, in reality, just a larger room. My husband, who is a grumpy traveler to say the least, was delighted with the comfort of the bed and the thickness of the towels; details I didn't know he'd notice. The flat screen TV was too small for the room (and too far away)--a minor inconvenience because we didn't go to Kansas City to watch TV. We can do that at home. We had drinks and appetizers in the Drum Room on Friday night, and listened to live jazz. How authentic! We were baffled by the smoking laws in K.C., because people were smoking in the bar. The food was very good. GREAT LOCATION. The hotel is in the Power & Light District and is a short walk from the Sprint Center. There is still construction going on and some of the restaurants and stores are not yet open. We were there (April '08) probably a year year. Next year at this time, the place will really be hopping. When we go back to K.C., we'll stay in the President!

This hotel is in an area of Kansas City where they are investing a lot of money for improvements to the historic district. Due to there being construction on the block, it was a little difficult to get there, but the hotel has valet parking and a parking garage behind the hotel. The rooms were absolutely beautiful, the service was great, any time I walked past an employee of the hotel they said hello. I would recommend to anyone needing to stay in the Downtown area of Kansas City.
