Very easy to book using hotels.com and when we finally got there slightly after midnight and they were waiting for me. No problems, no questions asked. Clean room that I would have easily paid more for but REALLY glad I got the rate I did. The only drawback was that it is kind of being behind a couple other business so it wasn't easy to pick our at […] first but luckily I had looked it up on an Internet mapping service first. The biggest drawback was the lack of affordable WiFi, but the price of the room was so low that if I had to have it I would have spring the extra cash. Checkout was also a breeze! Thanks! Read more

Staff at the hotel were very helpful and friendly. It is a bit further from the Center of the city, about a 20 minute walk. Internet available in certain areas. Breakfast buffet was good.

My wife and I and two friends were on a vacation around the UK and stopped at this hotel for one night. We asked the afternoon/evening shift front desk for restaurant and pub recommendations; they gave us good advice and directions for both. When we returned that evening from the pub, the afternoon/evening shift was just wrapping up and switching to […] the night shift. The afternoon shift was very helpful and even ordered a pizza for us because he knew a local place. So we ordered a couple more drinks at the bar and waited for the pizza to arrive. After the night shift took over, we were immediately looked down upon, ignored at the bar (we were the only 4 people in the bar), charged differently for drinks, and overall treated rudely. Moral of the story, this hotel is excellent until midnight, then make sure you're in your room, because the front desk night shift is very inconsiderate. One more note - the hotel was advertised as free wireless internet, but that was not the case. If you need internet, be prepared to pay for it. Read more

I really enjoyed the hotel and the staff made it great. We got such wonderful service and the front desk staff went out of their way to help us with travel arrangements. They were just so friendly and we loved that it was only a 15 minute walk into town. The neighborhood surround the hotel didn't seem nice but they assured us it was safe to walk to […] town and I can say the walk was just fine. They also let us use the pool and spa at the other Cardiff Mercure Hotel which was only about a 7 minute drive from our location. The pool was nice and it was complimentary so that was really great. The breakfast was good and they had hot food choices as well as a good selection of cereal, fruit and soft cheeses. The only thing we had a problem with was the outrageous charge for wireless internet access. It was beyond overcharging it was ridiculous and they should really revisit their policy. We had to go to another hotel near the entertainment complex down the road to use their complimentary internet. I would understand if it was only a pound or two each day but what they were charging is shameful. But all in all we loved the hotel and the staff and were very happy with our choice. Read more

Good stay, good room, very clean and quiet. Only downside was bed was stupidly squeaky. Every time you moved over rolled over kept waking us up. Apart from that good.

Check in staff was really pleasant and efficient . The problem arose at 22.45 when we asked for some sandwiches (Last orders 23.00). The guy behind the bar refused saying they had finished serving, when I queried why as last orders were at 23.00 he started mumbling about something I could not understand , I had to ask him several times before he spoke […] so that I could understand him and then said it would take him an hour to do it, obviously trying to put us off. When I pushed the issue he then said it would take 40 mins so we said that would be fine, he the brought the sandwiches in about 20 mins, they were very nice.breakfast was also very nice apart from the scrambled eggs which were overlooked and had been sitting there for some time. This was lovely hotel with comfortable rooms and was really good value for money. It is very convenient if you wish to visit Cardiff as you can easily walk to the city centre in a few minutes. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed two nights whilst working in Cardiff. I was disapointed that my room wasn't cleaned after my first nights stay. The room was unoccupied from 9 to 7 whilst I was at work. I requested a wake up call for the second morning which also did not materialise. Reasonable hotel, good value just let some basic standards slip sometimes.

The Mercure Cardiff Central is close enough to Cardiff city centre to comfortably walk. The room itself was clean warm with enough tea & coffee. Staff were very polite and helpful when asked. I would certainly stay again.

Very comfortable, quiet, polite staff, use of gym and nice pool in the town centre at the other Mercure hotel. Ideal for people who plan to be using their car to get to and from hotel - good road connections.

Only two minor negatives. I missed being able to open a window at night though the aircon was just ok. There was a very wet patch on the carpet between the shower room and one of the double beds, but since we used the other bed it did not matter much. Forgot to mention it to management ( room 235).

I booked this hotel last min. I had limited choice as everywhere was full so I wasn't expecting much. I couldn't believe my luck on arrival. Fantastic I location incredible staff. £5 taxi to town. Great sized room and bathroom. No doubt about it. Ill be staying there more often! Didn't surface early enough to try the breakie tho.

Staff were helpful but my room was poor. I stayed in a family room which was a good size but the bathroom was very poor- there was a mouldy smell and there was no shower- only a bath with a shower head and no shower curtain. Food is only ok and there is an eating area in the foyer which is not very comfortable. There were a lot of problems with my booking […] which although dealt with in the end, was very frustrating. We had a weekend away my partner and I to celebrate a year since we got proposed. We had some activities planned in the area so we were after somewhere with easy access. The hotel is easy enough to find and reasonably easy to get both into Cardiff centre and to Cardiff bay. The breakfast left a little to be desired with a very selected choice in hot […] food. There is no restaurant on site so you do need to go elsewhere to get an evening meal. The hotel itself could do with a make over. The rooms are a decent size however very dirty, the bed was quite warn and uncomfortable and a crack ran the length of the ceiling. The shower just about worked although again was cracked so most of the water dripped out of the same spot. It was OK for one night, I wouldnt like to stay there any longer. Read more

Stayed here after being to a show at the motorpoint. The man at reception was really helpful and pleasant. Hadn't paid for breakfast, but we all paid and had food the following morn, nice it was too! Will stay here again, no frills but clean and pleasant.

Clean and comfortable rooms but you can't open the windows for fresh air. If you can get something closer to the city centre for similar price go elsewhere but this hotel is adequate.

Difficult to find hotel after dark: hardly any signs to tell you that you have arrived at hotel car park. Had to get out at barrier and wonder around car park to check where we were. Pre reception area dark, lights not on. Not exactly a good first impression. Receptionist pleasant. Room OK and clean. Didn't sleep well as bed squeaked and 2 people rolled […] towards centre. Explained this to receptionist in the morning; apparently beds being replaced though that didn't help our night's sleep. Unfortunately the towels in the room did not smell very fresh. I asked for them to be replaced as I thought they may have not been changed. However, the new set of towels didn't seem to be much better. Disappointing as overall the room and the hotel was of a good standard. Helpful and friendly staff.
