"Lovely hotel in a quaint and interesting town"
We stopped in Staunton on our way backk home. We had been there before and knew that it was an interesting town with a couple of nice museums and a Shakespeare Theater. The Stonewall Jackson, located right in the middle of town is an independendent innlike hotel with a lovely large lobby, very polite personnel, very cleanly maintained halls and rooms. […] It seems to attract academics and people who come to the theater. It also accepts pets. There is a breakfast room and a small resturant and bar with nice but simple menu. I was pleasantly surprised how quiet our room was considering there was a wedding reception down stairs. The bed was very comfortable, the entire room was very clean. I was just a little disappointed at the cost if breakfast so we skipped it only to find most places in the area were closed on Sunday morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great historic hotel in fantastic area"
The Stonewall Jackson is a fabulous place to stay if you enjoy spending time strolling around thriving towns with long histories. The general area is a classic old American town with mostly brick storefronts and just about every available space is open for business. There is definitely a 'trendy' feel to the downtown area, but my family is certainly […] not the trendy type and we found plenty to occupy us. The hotel itself sits on a hill at the bottom of the town and in our case offered an amazing view of the entire downtown area. Views on the other side of the hotel would be of the historic residential area of the town. In our two stays in two different rooms, we had three very comfortable beds and one that could have used a new mattress. The pillows were firm but tiny (we had our own, so this was not an issue for us, but more or bigger pillows are probably in order). The entire hotel was clean and well maintained and the general service was exemplary. We enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub. We did spend one dinner in Sorrel's restaurant/bar and were very disappointed with the service. They were tremendously understaffed and the staff that was on hand was inefficient (bordering on incompetent). In the future, I will dine elsewhere as there are at least a half dozen restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and staff"
Great place to stay and experience old town and the American Shakespear theatre . We would have like to have known that the dining room and bar were closed during the holidays. Also, very dog friendly, but even though we had told them we have a small dog, we had to wait for a room as they had not noticed that on reservation. Very nice staff and holiday […] decor. The hotel staff and restaraunt/bar staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and had a large bathroom. There is a $4 dollar charge to park in the parking garage. WIth the price of the hotel, I would expect that that would have been comped, but is a small issue considering the pro'sGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Location - ok hotel"
Clean, large rooms & great area in Stanton. However walls must be paper thin, we could hear the conversations of the guests in the room "next door". Which included crying baby and a 4AM alarm clock. We were also very surprised at the lack of security in entering the garage to hotel. One was able to go from garage take an elevator to a small hallway […] off lobby and then up to hotel rooms with out a key access. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel but the the sound from the adjacent rooms was loud, even a slight chuckle in the room next door. Also, the band that played that night so loud and it went until midnight!° Lounge and fireplace was very cozy and romantic.Genuine Expedia guest review
Wife and I like to always stop in Staunton on our way to Roanoke. We have stayed in various hotels and paid modest amounts for comfortable rooms and service . But for just a little more money you can really have a nice place to stay. Very clean, everyone was freindly. We like to eat down town and were able to walk to our favorite RestruantsGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to all must see sights"
We left our car in the public underground parking underneath the hotel. Therefore, we were very much, in proximity, to visit all the town shops, restaurants and walk the quaint, hilly, and historical areas of Stuanton. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was one of elegance. Our room was small but was updated and very clean. I enjoyed the exercise room […] and the hot tub! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
a cosy room, let us say, but quite comfortable. avoid the breakfast buffet, however. dried out, neglected, mediocre food. quite awfulGenuine Expedia guest review
Beautiful old building and wonderful location for exploring the town and restaurants; parking was easy.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room smelled as if they had used a perfume or carpet freshener to deoderize the room. It makes me wonder - what odor were they trying to cover up. The in room coffee was not any good. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant was pretty good. And why charge extra for parking? Just charge $4 more for the room and make me think I got free parking. And […] last, at check out - no one asked me how my stay was. They just took my $4 for the parking and I left. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"very nice hotel"
Lovely hotel, my only complaint (and I'm a big dog lover) is the room next door with a "yappy" little dog, who had obviously been left alone in the room. I read the hotel's policy, which is pet friendly, but specified that animals were not to be left unattended in guest rooms. I did not call the front desk, and eventually the dog settled down. Also, […] there was a wedding reception held the same night I stayed there, and the party spilled out of the building and woke me up at 1:00am..I understood that they were celebrating, but thought the hotel should have kept them a little more controlled for that time of morning. "Great weekend getaway"
We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend away to celebrate our birthdays. There was tons to do in the area, and the hotel location could not have been more convenient. The hotel was recently renovated (as all local Stauntonites will tell you), and the lobby is gorgeous. Easy parking in the onsite garage, and you're right downtown with a coffee shop […] on the corner and restaurants all around. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A la carte hotel"
It is a fine hotel right in the best place to see the city, right next door to the biggest attraction, the Blackfriar's theatre. But you get charged for everything: $4.00 to park; $13.00 for breakfast; no refrigerator. Great beds. Comfortable rooms, but the walls are thin, so hope you don't have loud neighbors. All in all, we will go back. The location […] is just great. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely, Restored Historic Hotel"
Although we stayed only one night, we thoroughly enjoyed this historic downtown hotel that has been beautifully restored. The rooms in the newer addition are spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. Even though the hotel was fully booked that night, it was extremely quiet. The front desk staff was outstanding and helpful. During the afternoon we […] enjoyed a street festival with music and dancers while browsing in the charming shops and art galleries. The downtown buildings have also been restored to their original period. The hotel's Sunday breakfast/brunch buffet was excellent. There is convenient parking in a parking garage adjacent to the hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Loved this hotel and the area (historic Staunton, VA), and would definitely stay again. The hotel had a lovely lobby, restaurant; the staff was friendly and knowledgeable; the room was absolutely clean and quiet!Genuine Expedia guest review
Great place to stay in downtown Staunton. Very comfortable bed and the service was excellant.Genuine Expedia guest review
the hotel is nice enough and a good job seems to have been done on the restoration. I can see that not a great deal of attention is given to detailed cleaning and maintainence, however. There needs to be an easlily accessable complimentary coffee pot in the lobby and guests should not be told that they must pay $2 per cup for coffee if they do not intend […] to pay for breakfast, as I was. Dirty windows and floors seem to have not ever been vacuumed under the beds. I witnessed and saw now evidence of tidying up and sweeping at the front of the hotel. There is only one small bench to sit down on to enjoy the outdoors. The tiny amount of grass on the property needed mowed badly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great hotel in a great location"
My wife and I stayed at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel while on our week-long stay in Staunton, VA. The hotel could not be better located for us being right next to the American Shakespeare Festival venue and close to the historical downtown area. Our room was in the older part of the hotel. The hotel staff was upfront and honest with us about our room […] being smaller than others in the hotel, but we found the room quite adequate for our stay. The hotel staff were very helpful. We needed to participate in a conference call and the phone in our room did not have speaker. With little turn around time the staff had a speaker phone in our room in time for our call. The breakfast buffet (not included in our room cost) was quite good and tasty but nothing really imaginative. Hot/cold cereal, eggs, breakfast meats, fruit. If we find ourselves in Staunton again, we will be sure to stay at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Outstanding hotel, excellent location"
I was pleasantly surprised. Some reviews said the rooms were small but my wife and I were very comfortable. True, it's an older hotel and the rooms are not large by today's standards but the hotel has been renovated and is in excellent condition. The parking deck connects to the hotel and was very affordable. Hotel location is excellent, right in the […] middle of the historic downtown. We walked to restaurants, shops, etc. I'll definitely return to this hotel. While in Staunton, be sure to see the Frontier Culture Museum, a short drive from he hotel. "Beautifully restored historic hotel"
We recently visited Staunton VA to attend a performance at the Blackfriar Playhouse, highly regarded for its summer of Shakespeare productions. The hotel is conveniently located within steps from the Playhouse and one does not need a car to have access to restaurants. [The Coffee on the Corner was a favorite as well as an ice cream shop down the street. […] But our absolute favorite restaurant within walking distance was Zynodoa that supports Virginia's independent farmers and producers. It was one of the best trout dish I've ever had.] The hotel is beautifully restored and we were very happy with our clean and charmingly decorated rooms. Think "charm", not "business". The front desk was friendly and helpful. I enjoyed relaxing and reading in the high celinged lobby. Their guest computer and printer could definitely use replacements with faster and better functioning equipment, but other than printing our airline boarding passes, we had no other need. I would definitely stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Staff was so excellent and friendly - made us feel so comfortable. Within walking distance to many stores, restaurants, coffee shops and a local ice cream shop "The Split Banana" which is a must to visit. The only thing I would recommend would be some outside space to sit at tables or benches and really soak up the historic town and the people that […] visit and live there. Downtown felt very safe to walk at any hour of the day or night. Local towns people were refreshingly kind and genuinely happy to share their Virginian kindess, charm and great city with others. "Great Get A Way in the Mountains!"
The Stonewall Jackson Hotel is a lovely place to stay in a great little mountain town. The lobby is elegant and the staff helpful and accommodating. This is the place to go if you are looking for something special and not one of the regular chain hotels. A building of the old days in perfect condition and with nice staff. The hotel room was booked online while we were in the car about 15 miles from the hotel. The reservation was waiting for us upon our arrival in less than 30 minutes.
