"Good spot if you are in Staunton"
A decent clean place, comfortable beds and good, cheap parking.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was clean. The staff was professional and courteous. I would definitely recommend this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel close to Stuart Hall School."
The hotel was beautiful. The staff were courteous, the hotel facilities were clean and the room was cozy except for some reason the temperature inside the room changed towards the early morning even if we didn't touch the controls before we went to bed. It started to get a little warm so I had to get up and lower the temperature for the AC to kick in. […] Otherwise it was a pleasant experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Too Little hotel for so much money."
Hotels.com charged us full price for a last minute hotel stay that was not worth the money. I was going to my 25th High School Reunion when my original hotel plans fell through. THE BAD STUFF: I had to fix the shower myself. They stuck us in a handicap room and the shower head was loose and was hard to use. I called the front desk with no answer. So […] I fixed it. The room was clean but the shower curtains were not correctly hung. PARKING SUCKS. You park in a Parking Garage in which you have to pay for. If you have a big truck like me you have to park across the street. At a cost to you. During the day parking appeared it could have been a problem if you needed to find parking. The Hotel gives you a 5 Star look when you walk inside but appears to be strongly lacking in security. There where camera pods but are they in real and if so are the monitored? The public can enter the hotel from the parking garage and get to rooms without being noticed or approached by hotel staff. The TV in the room had problems with the Digital Screen and kept skipping. No list of pizza delivery or other local food found. THE GOOD NOTES: The staff was very clean and courteous. They had room service with a decent menu. The room was clean for the most part. The Buffet was very good and tasty with lots of different food on the buffet also. If buffet is not what you want they had a menu also. I would stay there again but for a rate much less then was given. Part of the rating is because of HOTELS.COM Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quiet and convenient"
First trip to Staunton, with plans to walk the downtown, travel Skyline Drive (lower 1/3), visit James Madison U, and see old houses. Had both dogs stay with us - a Pug and a Shiba-Inu. Very convenient to restaurants, Mary Baldwin U, antique stores and excellent bookstore on Beverly St. Went by W. Wilson museum and walked parts of historic district. […] Enjoyed area by Lewis Creek and Mill Restaurant plus the glass blowing at Sunspots Studios & Glassblowing. Wonderful drive in lower Shenandoah Valley on early spring day. Location is fantastic, walk out the door and your at the visitors center, a coffee shop and some place for breakfast or lunch. I didn't like that a throw pillow was stained and then placed back on the chair reversed, corners of the room need vacuuming. There is no actual dining room for dinner, the tables are in an area outside of a small bar at the […] end of the lobby and the menu is acceptable but limited. There is however a restaurant immediately outside the front door. The staff was very helpful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
A classy and quaint historical hotel. Can't help but be taken back in time to southern elegance and charm. Always a favorite stop.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming setting in a great location"
Room was very comfortable; bathroom is updated nicely; being right downtown you can walk to everything with ease. Would definitely stay again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice, helpful staff. Rooms were clean, but a single queen bed room was tiny. Overall, a nice experience in an historical hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent place to stay in lovely Staunton VA."
This is a very nice hotel in downtown Staunton VA. It's convenient to the shopping, restaurants and nightlife. You can also easily get to Mary Baldwin University and the Woodrow Wilson Museum/Birthplace/Library. Also right next to the Blackfriars Theater, the only exact replica of Shakespeare's original theater.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel in a Great Town"
Everything was perfect. A really great hotel for the money. Will be returning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, beautiful building"
My fiancee and I spent the weekend here and had a wonderful time. It's an historic hotel, so the rooms are a bit smaller than in more modern hotels, but has very friendly staff, great food, and free Wifi. It's also right in the heart of Staunton's lovely downtown. The next time we're in town, we'll certainly be here staying again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Stonewall Jackson is fit for a general!"
I love this hotel. Wonderful location - right next to the American Shakespeare Center, restaurants, movies, coffee, shopping, 2 blocks from the train station. For my budget this is as fancy as I get and I have no real complaints at all. Perfect!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"American Shakespeare Center visit"
The convenience of the hotel - right next door to the Blackfriars Playhouse - makes it perfect for anyone coming to the American Shakespeare Center. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable. The restaurant did not have much appeal, but there are plenty of other great dining options close by.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"At the heart of Staunton"
The main objective for this trip was to see "As You Like It" at the Blackfriar's Theatre of the American Shakespeare Center, which is next door to the hotel. Hotel parking is in the 4-floor city parking garage alongside the hotel, with Staunton Visitor Center on other side of the garage. Once we parked, we walked everywhere except for a guided history […] tour of Staunton ($25 for two), for which we rode the city trolley with our two guides (free with visitor tokens from Center or 25 cents without). We went to restaurants on Beverly St., which is a block from the hotel, and in the "wharf district" (by the train station), which is 3 blocks from hotel. Winery tasting room and glassblowing shop were a block beyond wharf district shops and bistro. The hotel itself is part of Staunton's history, and it has been completely renovated inside. In short, this is a great bargain if you're in town to sample Staunton's theater, history, and dining treasures. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Don't expect big"
Nice hotel and the location is convenient to restaurants and bars. The rooms are small, very small definitely not intended for a lengthy stay. Garage parking is convenient and on site so no trouble finding a parking place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely hotel in a quaint and interesting town"
We stopped in Staunton on our way backk home. We had been there before and knew that it was an interesting town with a couple of nice museums and a Shakespeare Theater. The Stonewall Jackson, located right in the middle of town is an independendent innlike hotel with a lovely large lobby, very polite personnel, very cleanly maintained halls and rooms. […] It seems to attract academics and people who come to the theater. It also accepts pets. There is a breakfast room and a small resturant and bar with nice but simple menu. I was pleasantly surprised how quiet our room was considering there was a wedding reception down stairs. The bed was very comfortable, the entire room was very clean. I was just a little disappointed at the cost if breakfast so we skipped it only to find most places in the area were closed on Sunday morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great historic hotel in fantastic area"
The Stonewall Jackson is a fabulous place to stay if you enjoy spending time strolling around thriving towns with long histories. The general area is a classic old American town with mostly brick storefronts and just about every available space is open for business. There is definitely a 'trendy' feel to the downtown area, but my family is certainly […] not the trendy type and we found plenty to occupy us. The hotel itself sits on a hill at the bottom of the town and in our case offered an amazing view of the entire downtown area. Views on the other side of the hotel would be of the historic residential area of the town. In our two stays in two different rooms, we had three very comfortable beds and one that could have used a new mattress. The pillows were firm but tiny (we had our own, so this was not an issue for us, but more or bigger pillows are probably in order). The entire hotel was clean and well maintained and the general service was exemplary. We enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub. We did spend one dinner in Sorrel's restaurant/bar and were very disappointed with the service. They were tremendously understaffed and the staff that was on hand was inefficient (bordering on incompetent). In the future, I will dine elsewhere as there are at least a half dozen restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and staff"
Great place to stay and experience old town and the American Shakespear theatre . We would have like to have known that the dining room and bar were closed during the holidays. Also, very dog friendly, but even though we had told them we have a small dog, we had to wait for a room as they had not noticed that on reservation. Very nice staff and holiday […] decor. The hotel staff and restaraunt/bar staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and had a large bathroom. There is a $4 dollar charge to park in the parking garage. "Great Location - ok hotel"
Clean, large rooms & great area in Stanton. However walls must be paper thin, we could hear the conversations of the guests in the room "next door". Which included crying baby and a 4AM alarm clock. We were also very surprised at the lack of security in entering the garage to hotel. One was able to go from garage take an elevator to a small hallway […] off lobby and then up to hotel rooms with out a key access. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice hotel but the the sound from the adjacent rooms was loud, even a slight chuckle in the room next door. Also, the band that played that night so loud and it went until midnight!° Lounge and fireplace was very cozy and romantic.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Close to all must see sights"
We left our car in the public underground parking underneath the hotel. Therefore, we were very much, in proximity, to visit all the town shops, restaurants and walk the quaint, hilly, and historical areas of Stuanton. The overall atmosphere of the hotel was one of elegance. Our room was small but was updated and very clean. I enjoyed the exercise room […] and the hot tub! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Beautiful old building and wonderful location for exploring the town and restaurants; parking was easy.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room smelled as if they had used a perfume or carpet freshener to deoderize the room. It makes me wonder - what odor were they trying to cover up. The in room coffee was not any good. The breakfast buffet in the restaurant was pretty good. And why charge extra for parking? Just charge $4 more for the room and make me think I got free parking. And […] last, at check out - no one asked me how my stay was. They just took my $4 for the parking and I left. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"very nice hotel"
Lovely hotel, my only complaint (and I'm a big dog lover) is the room next door with a "yappy" little dog, who had obviously been left alone in the room. I read the hotel's policy, which is pet friendly, but specified that animals were not to be left unattended in guest rooms. I did not call the front desk, and eventually the dog settled down. Also, […] there was a wedding reception held the same night I stayed there, and the party spilled out of the building and woke me up at 1:00am..I understood that they were celebrating, but thought the hotel should have kept them a little more controlled for that time of morning. "Great weekend getaway"
We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend away to celebrate our birthdays. There was tons to do in the area, and the hotel location could not have been more convenient. "A la carte hotel"
It is a fine hotel right in the best place to see the city, right next door to the biggest attraction, the Blackfriar's theatre. But you get charged for everything: $4.00 to park; $13.00 for breakfast; no refrigerator. Great beds. Comfortable rooms, but the walls are thin, so hope you don't have loud neighbors. "Lovely, Restored Historic Hotel"
Although we stayed only one night, we thoroughly enjoyed this historic downtown hotel that has been beautifully restored. The rooms in the newer addition are spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. Even though the hotel was fully booked that night, it was extremely quiet. The front desk staff was outstanding and helpful. During the afternoon we […] enjoyed a street festival with music and dancers while browsing in the charming shops and art galleries. The downtown buildings have also been restored to their original period. The hotel's Sunday breakfast/brunch buffet was excellent. Great place to stay in downtown Staunton. Very comfortable bed and the service was excellant.Genuine Expedia guest review
the hotel is nice enough and a good job seems to have been done on the restoration. I can see that not a great deal of attention is given to detailed cleaning and maintainence, however. There needs to be an easlily accessable complimentary coffee pot in the lobby and guests should not be told that they must pay $2 per cup for coffee if they do not intend […] to pay for breakfast, as I was. Dirty windows and floors seem to have not ever been vacuumed under the beds. I witnessed and saw now evidence of tidying up and sweeping at the front of the hotel. There is only one small bench to sit down on to enjoy the outdoors. The tiny amount of grass on the property needed mowed badly. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
