Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel Canal Loop

A short guide to Canal Loop

The classic Amsterdam image of stately canals, the Canal Loop is principally the Herengracht and Keizersgracht, lined with gracious tall 17th and 18th-century houses. Some of these are now museums, most notably the eccentric Kattenkabinet. The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic much–photographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). The floating Flower Market is also a much-loved canal feature.

It's my 4th stay here and rooms are getting dirtier every stay. This time I changed rooms due to noise from the elevator and both had lots of stains on the carpet.

Hotel is very European with stylish amenities in room, if you don't care for modern spaces -- don't stay here. Executive room had comfy king size bed. Smart use of space to unpack and store your suitcase contents in a small space -- I normally don't do this, but closets were very well done. Rembrandt Square is very active all night long and might not be my first choice for those aged 35+. ATM and decent coffee a few doors down. Good home-base location...

We had a great time staying at this hotel; great location with restaurants all around. Flower market was incredible and only a short walk away. Amsterdam is very walkable and things aren't as far as they look on the map. Shopping was nearby as well as tourist attractions. Staff was very accommodating, just be careful of the extra taxes and/or charges. The glass doors to the bathroom was most unusual, but we got a good laugh out of it. But most of all, be careful of the millions of bicycles & remember they have the right of way!

I recently stayed at the Eden Rembrandt Square Hotel, the location is good on the Amstel canel. The staff was great when I came to the hotel in the early am, I knew I was going to have to wait for my room until 3:00, checked my bags and took off to do some errands, when I came back at 3:00 to check in the gal at the counter was rather rude, when I asked about using the internet with a printer she stated that the hotels printer was down and I would have to figure something else out. I was so tired I did not argue with her, the consigner told me where I could find internet to I could print my boarding passes. I will not stay here again. It was over priced and not friendly. The last thing that is really odd is that there are arrows on the wall that point to the bed like you cannot find it.

There was no soap in the dispenser at the bathroom sink. I told the maid personally about it the next morning after our arrival. Two days later the soap dispenser was still empty. Comfort: 1. The mattresses are too soft in the beds. 2. There are no drawers to put clothing or personal effects in, only shelves. 3. The glass wall separating the bathroom from the bedroom permits light to enter the bedroom when someone uses the bathroom and someone else is trying to sleep.

They did alert us to the unique mini-bar that automatically charges you for any items that are picked up or moved. We arrived on a Sunday after a large party weekend in Amsterdam. My carpet smelled faintly of vomit and had some stains that were probably the source of the smell. The hotel is conveniently located.

My husband and I stayed in Amsterdam for four days during the past week and spent all of them at the Eden Rembrandt Square hotel (in two different rooms). I was happy with almost everything there. The room was much bigger then any other European hotel I have been in, including the bathroom. I found it quite comfortable. The only problem I had was with the cleanliness. There were stains all over the carpet, something that kind of grosses me out, because I don't like to think about what happened in there to make the stains! If you're not too picky about the cleanliness, I would absolutely recommend this hotel. I would also suggest looking at the Eden Hotel Amsterdam. The two hotels are actually connected. The Rembrandt Square Hotel has a bit more hustle and bustle and the Hotel Amsterdam is facing the canal.

A first a little disappointed by the look of the hotel - the 'boutique feel' is somewhat dark and (for us) a little dated, but over the 4 nights we were there it grew on us and we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel (and stay there again). The room was quite small, but very comfortable (especially the beds) and the aircon worked efficiently and quietly. However, the frosted glass doors into the ensuite, and in the wall between shower and main room itself were a bit of a suprise - a triumph of style over common sense perhaps! But you get used to it. Location of hotel was excellent, very easy to walk to main attractions & lots of restaurants/cafes nearby. We didn't bother with the hotel breakfast. Just walk 100mtres down to the nearby L'Opera cafe in the square and enjoy toast, orange juice and coffee for a fraction of the cost, whilst watching the world go by. Overall, we liked this hotel (even with the frosted glass) thought it good value for money, and would use it again.

Just back from lovely trip to amsterdam marred only by our accomodation! Orginally had booked 4 star rembrandt square hotel, arrived early and luggage was put in storage. Great we went off to explore city and would come back later to check in. On check in we were offfered an upgrade to appartment with canal view! Sounds good! appartment out of hotel and looked tatty on arrival but view terrific. On better inspection place was filthy but beds clean. Kitchen filthy but who's cooking on hols and bathroom clean but tile grout black! too tired to complain and figured we would'nt be spending much time there! However on the last evening we discovered mouse droppings but thankfully didnt see them! Complained on check out and were informed if we had said earlier the appt would have been cleaned. It would have took more than a clean! Definately not 4 star and these appartments appear to be part of the 3 star eden hotel. Would liked to have been able to compare one of the rooms! Would not go back again to that hotel and if ever offered free upgrade again will think again before accepting!

For being our first visit to Amsterdam, we feel we lucked out with this hotel. Upon our arrival we were taken to our rooms which were of a modern design, incredibly clean, roomy and had all the amenities (flat screen tv, internet, hair dryers, great toiletries, etc.) We happened to mention that we were a bit disappointed because our room did not have a view of the canals - next thing we knew the desk manager asked if we would like to look at penthouse they had available over looking the canals, as they were willing to let us stay there for the same price as our current room. The penthouse was so spacious - large living area, dining area, kitchnette, separate bedroom, bathroom and a patio in the back, not to mention an awesome view of the canal (the casement windows allowed in the fresh air and local sounds into our living room each day). The locations was grand - a couple of blocks from the infamous flower market and local shops.

Beaware the hotel is split in two and has seperate reception areas. The Eden Rembrandt is 4 star while Rembrandt is 3. It's great location, with walking distance to catch a tram, about 10-15 minutes walk to Dam. The reception and conceirg was very helpful but busy during day to answer the questions quickly as possible. One PC/printer access (printer was not functional at the time) by Eden and 4 PC access in the restaurant. The AC in the room was not working, just the fan was on which kept the room too hot to sleep at night. The thermost will not allow to go any down than 19c. Opening the window will bring fresh cool breeze but will lots of noice due to busy area. Luckily we stayed over the weekend only so did not notice any constrction noice across the street but my wife noticed it on the Monday morning (day we checked out) since 6 a.m. Overall good for the price, but check the AC and the location when you check in.

There was a TV in the room - but it cost about 22 EUR per day to watch it. The hotel didn't actually have a fitness center - rather an agreement to use one down the street for about 13/14 EUR. Overall it was quiet and pleasant. Good location near bars, restaurants and shops.

This could be an excellent hotel. The location is superb with all major attractions reachable by foot. If you prefer to get around by tram then there is a stop very close by. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and tidy. The toilet door is made of glass which is a bit strange and the mattress is extremely soft. We did not try out the bar or restraunt so cannot comment on this. The only downside was that there were building works on a new appartment block directly opposite our window, and this combined with the regular trams passing in the street below did make lying in quite difficult

I stay in the Eden Rembrandt Square quite regularly, but this is my first time to contribute to the pool of reviews. The hotel is brilliantly located - close enough to the Dam Square area that you can walk there in 10 minutes or so, but far enough away that you can avoid the real tourist hullabaloo if you want to. The staff are very helpful and the rooms are clean with some reasonably edgy design features. A lot of the rooms have glass doors into to the toilet itself, with only a 1 meter band of frosting across the glass, which might be awkward in the case of some room share arrangements. The rooms with baths do not have this unusual glass/frosting arrangement, so if you're sharing a rooom and modest, you should probably request a room with a bath! There's a bar where the bar staff are very professional and helpful and there's a restaurant which is very much in the fine dining bracket and, for me at least, a bit OTT for every day. There are lots of great restaurants and bars dottted around the square, however, so your eating choices are many and varied. I typically tend to eat in the St. James's Gate Irish Pub about 100 meters from the door of the hotel. They do a great Irish stew and a brilliant indian curry. Safe Travels

I recently stayed at the Eden Rembrandt Square in Amsterdam for a weekend. We arrived several hours prior to check-in. The hotel had a room available, but only at an upgraded rate. As we had just flown over from the States on a red eye, we gladly paid for the upgrade. The room was a decent size and the beds were comfortable, but it was not worth paying for the upgrade. The bathroom was modern, but oddly, they used glass doors to separate the bathroom from the rest of the room. While the room was clean, there were very large stains in the carpeting, which were quite unsightly. The staff was helpful when recommending restaurants and provided good directions. The hotel has a computer in the lobby, which was convenient for checking in to our return flight. However, it was not possible to print electronic tickets for local attractions due to security restrictions on the computer, which was frustrating. The hotel's location is great. It is walking distance from Rembrandt Square, the tram, and centrally located to pretty much everything in the city. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. I would recommend the hotel for its convenience, but caution that it is a tad overpriced. If management made a few slight adjustments, it could be a very cool and trendy hotel worthy of a four star ranking and four star price.

We'd taken a red-eye and were able to check in early. We had an upgraded room, so I can't speak to the size of the others in the hotel, but it was larger than expected with an "office" area and sitting area. I'd highly recommend the hotel and will stay there again should I return to Amsterdam.
