"Great service, beautiful hotel, totally relaxing"
The rooms were exactly as advertised and beautifully maintained. Breakfast was perfect with great coffee! All staff were knowledgeable and friendly. They even prepared coffee at 515 in the morning before we had to leave for the airport. Drinks were a little expensive at the pool bar and the music at the pool was a bit strange. Overall it was a wonderful […] stay and I would definitely go back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"An idyllic break - highly recommended."
This is not a main City 5*, but is highly recommended. Located in a lovely quiet village it offers good accommodation in a tranquil setting and in easy reach of other locations/interests. The front desk staff were very helpful and the standards of food and service were high. Our only quibbles were that the main pool was too cold and that the hotel's […] audio system damaged a CD that was a birthday present to my wife. I reported this, but was disappointed that the hotel did not offer a replacement or compensation. These only slightly marred a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed at the Vedema for 3 days while travelling trough Greece for our honeymoon. Hotel was very unique and charming, built on a very old winery. The staff was helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was great. Rooms were large and comfortable and very nicely decorated. Not the most convenient location, however the hotel has a great complimentary shuttle […] service you can take into the town (Fira) or to the private beach. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Shower were only about 2 degrees away from COLD. Staff lacked the intimacy/friendliness expected of a small boutique hotel. Gym equipment was old, weight selection was limited, running machine was broken. First night they will pre-book you into the neighbouring restaurant, The food there was my worst meal in all of Greece.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Vedema Resort We would like to thank you for your recent stay with us and for taking the time to share your feedback. We were surprised that you faced issues with hot water in your room as this was never reported to our Front Desk by your self or any other of our guest staying in the same block as yours. Had we been informed would the matter have been resolved immediately. We need to express our amazement towards the fact that you felt that our staff lacked in intimacy/friendliness. The feedback we have had so far from all of our guests shows quite the contrary. All of our guests refer to our staff with the most kind words and praises. We are sorry that the gym did not meet up to your expectations, honestly we have not had a complain so far. We apologize indeed that one of our running machines was out of order, we did our best to repair it the soonest possible. Please be so kind and advice which Restaurant you are referring to, as the only Restaurant we make pre bookings for is the Vinsanto Restaurant which is within our property. We are proud of the reviews we have had so far as the comments have been excellent. We regret to hear that it did not meet up to your culinary standards. We hope to have the chance to have you with us again in the future and do our outmost to live up to your expectations.

"Off the beaten path"

Santorini is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been. I stayed at the Vedema Resort with my fiance, and as a platinum preferred guest with Starwood, we were offered an upgrade to a larger suite. The resort is located in the quaint town of Megalochori, which is off the beaten path from the tourist towns of Fira and Oia on the caldera. To me, this is preferable. It is like its own oasis away from the hustle and bustle of it all. There are vineyards in the immediate area, and you can do wine tastings within walking distance of the hotel. The suite was finished with all white marble, which made for a luxurious feel. The bathroom was ok, but the shower pressure and lighting were not that great. The food at the restaurant was delicious, but the service was slow - this seems to be typical in Greece however. Overall, we had a very nice and relaxing stay. My fiance loved laying out by the pool. We would definitely consider staying here again.
"Shame on you 'Starwood Hotels'"

The first impression having arrived at. 7am to the hotel was one we would never forget. With no rooms ready for us even though having notified the hotel well in advance, we were offered a couch in the lobby to rest on whilst the management and cleaning staff started the day at this below standard resort. 4 hours later we had kindly been asked to push on from the couch by the overly aggressive female manager who stayed that our resting on reception lounges had made other guests uncomfortable. As you can imagine, this was not the warm welcome any guest would wish to receive. Finally, after been given a 'temporary' room for a couple of hours at 3 in the afternoon our room was ready. -no view -no working tv -no lights in showers -outdated and loud air conditioner system And all for close to $1000 per night. Frequent traveller or not when staying at a Hotel branded "luxury collection" of one the largest hotel groups in the world your expectations should be as high as the price. Overated, Overstated and Overpriced this property is arguably the worst resort (if you can call it that) I have stayed in Europe. Eventually having had enough of the management and lack Of service we opted to stay at another resort. WARNING - please read fine print, as any changes to reservation incur a 100% cancellation fee. Shame on you Starwood we will never be using this brand of hotels again because of the service we have received at Vedema.

At the Vedema you feel welcome already when arriving at the port by boat. At the resort you get to meet the super friendly staff. While finishing your welcome drink (which tastes great!) you get a private tour through the resort, ending up in you villa where they've already placed your Luggage. the complex is small but very cozy. I loved it! the villas are spacious and have all facilities you need: rain shower,... There's a cozy square near the hotel with a lot of nice restaurants (cheap but tasty!). The hotel has 2 swimming pools: one normal swimming pool and one heated jacuzzi pool where you can enjoy a little more privacy. the breakfast was very good, only one downside: the warm buffet at the breakfast was cold.

One of the nicest, scenic and original hotels I have stayed at. The hotel was very authentic. Each room was similar to the stone houses that locals live in. It was very bright, relaxing and the hotel transportation made it convenient to go to the beach or city.
"Second Visit - Even Better Than the First"

I didn't think it was possible to love this hotel more than I did the first time I stayed here but I did. It's close enough to get into town easily but far enough away that you have a bit of peace and quiet. From the moment we were made to feel like valued guests. I can't say enough good things about the concierge and front desk manager, any thing we asked of them they helped with, whether it was booking trips, restaurant suggestions or getting us ATVs. The airlines lost my luggage and they bent over backwards to work with me to get it over from the states and delivered to the hotel (the airlines wouldn't do it for me). We had an amazing complimentary breakfast every morning. Of the three hotels I stayed in while in Greece this was by far my favorite and the one at which we received the best service. Would go back in a heart beat and would recommend to anyone traveling to Santorini.
"A great antidote to modern life - I wish I could have given a 5* rating."

We stayed at Vedema last week and in 27 years of marriage and considerable travel it is only the third hotel my wife s happy to return to - indeed she is asking about going again next year. My reluctance to give 5* is the result a few niggles. As said before this is Greece and an island so I do not measure the hotel against London, Paris, New York, etc. My main gripe is that the main pool was way to cold to be enjoyable. Instead we found ourselves focused on the jacuzzi that was maybe too warm. Linked with this the air conditioning while effective had a click that was annoying after the first day and kept my wife awake and we did have some occasional unpleasant odours in the bathrooms. Lastly and this is minor, but my wife was given a new CD as a birthday present on her first day by my daughter. Not only did we never get a working CD player in our room (I gave up asking!) we found the CD had been left playing in the second unit that intact scratched the disc making two track inaccessible. I reported this to reception, but there was no attempt to replace or compensate. After these gripes, the good points. The hotel is well located in a quiet village. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast experience by the pool was very enjoyable. All in all we had a great week, just a few small corrections and I could have given the full 5*s.
"Vedema's service and appointments are equal to the idyllic island where it resides."
10/02/13 georgeastraitjr Oakland, California
Positives...service, rooms-big and well appointed, and staff expertise. It's in a little town that has 6 terrific local restaurants and a 300 year old winery. Vedema excludes class and relaxation. Out of this world...Constantine Papikas and Anthi Maneta...managers Not so positive....among the resorts on this island filled with spectacular views, Vedema's views are not so great. The price for dinner is exorbitant especially considering one can get equal or better food across the street for 1/3 the cost. Overall...I'd go back in a minute. Next time I'd get a room with a pool. Yes they have some.

We stayed at the Vedema for 5 days. We had 2 condo style rooms. Lots of stairs. We couldn't use the closet because there was a horrible odor in the room coming from the sewer. The housekeeping was not the best and the free shuttle was limited to every two hours. Not very convenient. The shuttle was late getting us to the airport and we almost missed our flight. They did offer us a free dinner to make up for the smell. The breakfast buffet in the morning was very nice.
"Disenchanted, disapointed...could be great hotel for some.."

This is an off the beaten path hotel. If you want to be isolated location wise, not on a beach or with a great sea view, few if any outside choices of restauraunts or stores but more in a tiny village setting, no tourist ammenities at all..really feel like you are living in a little village, then this old gated home turned hotel will be great for you. Thats as far as location goes. It was not what I expected or wanted. But for some, it maybe perfect. Onto the service and quality of property. This property is owned by the same owner as the Mystique in Oia, which I moved to with his help and is in a village with many stores and food choices and on the sea with incredible views. Thats what I thought I was getting at Vedema and was not happy upon arrival. See my Mystique review.. Its excellent. Vedema is in my oppinion a work in progress. The property is a retreat type hotel and could be much better than it is if service level was improved significantly, and the property was enhanced by guest needs and ammenities being focused on more meticulously. This is not a five star property nor is the starwood catagory 7 rating accurate at all..at this time. Pool area is weak, and furnished poorly, and the pool area decking is to rocky to walk barefoot! ( I hate that), the internet is really poor and inconsistant, the rooms are decent but not five star at all..the food is only fair, the service as I said is no smiles, non attentive, you have to search to find someone and ask them to come help you with an umbrella, or a towel as the bin is empty, staff just not present at all. Even if they see you, they do not make eye contact and approach you to say can I help? Just not ready for prime time even if this location is for you. More like a catagory 3-4 at this point in time. As an american, used to Starwood larger properties, I think the biggest issue here is its a small hotel operator with hands on to some extent and you feel like your at a bed and breakfast and anything negative you may question, you will be insulting the owner. Thats tough when your paying 400.00 a night to be afriad to speak up. For me, even with the help of a move from the owner, we found our stay at Vedema to be the single biggest and costliest mistake of our ten day first time greece trip. They should remove all sea or beach pics and make it clear, no beach nearby, only a van ride ten minutes, no views of sea ( that are meaningful) and this is not in a area of any or many choices.. Its secluded. . And is mis rated as you will see in other TA reviews consistantly..NOT A FIVE STAR! I am waiting to see how the owner will handle my issues with the misrep and the negative results of my four day santorini visit ( which is really a do over) to see how the service level of guest relations really is with this boutiqe property. Since mystique is so well run, I cant nderstand why its sister is so polar opposite.I expect a defensive response from the owner as I have read on other TA reviews...so..make sure this is what you want...
"Not really a 5 stars hotel"
09/20/13 Noor A Manama, Bahrain
We stayed at Vedema hotel for four days and we had good time. We stayed at a very big 2bedrooms villa, very white as described, 2 big bathrooms with decent views. Hotel was in the middle of everywhere and away from the crowd. Its 15 minutes away from airport "hotel provided free shuttle from/to it", 7 minutes away from "perissa beach/area" where a nice clean quiet beach and great cozy restaurants, 10 minutes from "thira city Center" and 30 minutes to "Oia area" where the best sunset seen can be found and great views. The receptionists were welcoming but we had to ask so many questions in order to get the right advises to what we could do at the area. As for us, we had all the details from online about santorini so we just needed someone to Guide us through so we cover the best parts in such tight timing and the receptionists helped a lot in that part. The villa/hotel was perfect for group of friends, families, etc but not romantic as it seems in the pictures. For romantic places with same cost you need to go up to Oia area which is up the mountains". Hence, the hotel was not exactly a 100% a 5 stars hotel as it had some lack in room service such as getting the villa so crystal clean, you would feel something is missing, It had ants in the bathrooms and at times on the bed "but honestly i am not sure if we complained this would have been sorted put or not", restaurant didn't feel welcoming as it was so dark with lots of cats so we didn't bother to eat there "better food can be found walking distance from hotel @ feggera restaurant", breakfast was decent but repeated every single day, swimming pool was so small not as it appeared in the picture so i suggest spend more time at the beaches. As for the spa, you can find better ones at Oia so save your money for better places unless you cannot bother the distance. Also the timing of the shuttle was not that great "in the afternoons" as it stops at 5 ish were most people would start wanting to go around for dinner etc "but the driver was nice". To sum up, the hotel can be rated as a 4 stars hotel and not 5, good for groups and not couples looking for romantic place, do not expect fancy rooms with fancy lobby etc, hotel can be much better if the management looked better after room service, staff training, quality of utilities, etc. in the end, its a decent place but can be better.
