"terrible service in a challenging location"
We stayed here for one-night because it was a Starwood property and expected good service. Unfortunately, this was the worst hotel experience of our 3 week trip across Europe. The hotel concierge was unresponsive prior to arrival and failed to arrange our "free" transfer from the Ferry to the hotel, so we were left at the port / terminal without transportation […] on arrival. The hotel was not in a convenient location and we had other issues with the hotel concierge's complimentary transfer services. The hotel was far from other sites and inconveniently located. The pool was nice, but overall, the hotel concierge was over-worked, not helpful, and unapologetic about a number of basic guest needs. This hotel was understaffed for the number of guests, location, and the price we paid for the room. We left in a hurry and wished we had stayed somewhere else. "Great service, beautiful hotel, totally relaxing"
The rooms were exactly as advertised and beautifully maintained. Breakfast was perfect with great coffee! All staff were knowledgeable and friendly. They even prepared coffee at 515 in the morning before we had to leave for the airport. Drinks were a little expensive at the pool bar and the music at the pool was a bit strange. Overall it was a wonderful […] stay and I would definitely go back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"An idyllic break - highly recommended."
This is not a main City 5*, but is highly recommended. Located in a lovely quiet village it offers good accommodation in a tranquil setting and in easy reach of other locations/interests. The front desk staff were very helpful and the standards of food and service were high. Our only quibbles were that the main pool was too cold and that the hotel's […] audio system damaged a CD that was a birthday present to my wife. I reported this, but was disappointed that the hotel did not offer a replacement or compensation. These only slightly marred a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed at the Vedema for 3 days while travelling trough Greece for our honeymoon. Hotel was very unique and charming, built on a very old winery. The staff was helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was great. Rooms were large and comfortable and very nicely decorated. Not the most convenient location, however the hotel has a great complimentary shuttle […] service you can take into the town (Fira) or to the private beach. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Shower were only about 2 degrees away from COLD. Staff lacked the intimacy/friendliness expected of a small boutique hotel. Gym equipment was old, weight selection was limited, running machine was broken. First night they will pre-book you into the neighbouring restaurant, The food there was my worst meal in all of Greece.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Vedema Resort We would like to thank you for your recent stay with us and for taking the time to share your feedback. We were surprised that you faced issues with hot water in your room as this was never reported to our Front Desk by your self or any other of our guest staying in the same block as yours. Had we been informed would the matter have been resolved immediately. We need to express our amazement towards the fact that you felt that our staff lacked in intimacy/friendliness. The feedback we have had so far from all of our guests shows quite the contrary. All of our guests refer to our staff with the most kind words and praises. We are sorry that the gym did not meet up to your expectations, honestly we have not had a complain so far. We apologize indeed that one of our running machines was out of order, we did our best to repair it the soonest possible. Please be so kind and advice which Restaurant you are referring to, as the only Restaurant we make pre bookings for is the Vinsanto Restaurant which is within our property. We are proud of the reviews we have had so far as the comments have been excellent. We regret to hear that it did not meet up to your culinary standards. We hope to have the chance to have you with us again in the future and do our outmost to live up to your expectations.

We were there for a week and the experience has been great. Very friendly staff, really big rooms with great furniture and huge bed. Breakfast really good, not many options but great quality. Pool a little small for the hotel, and can be crowded at times and impossible to get some room. The beach, is good taken into consideration that it is not sand, and it burns like hell at midday. The place to go.
"Great stay - great people"

I have visited Santorini many times, and have had experiences in the past where I booked what was supposed to be a luxury hotel, and it turned out to be less than luxurious. This time around, I wanted to make sure I knew what I was signing up for, so I looked to find a great hotel with a great brand behind it - bring in Starwood! I was excited to see that Starwood had two luxury hotels in Santorini, and I chose Vedema, for its proximity to all the action in Fira. I made a GREAT choice! Vedema is located about 10-15 minutes from Fira (by car), and is in a town known as Megalochori. This was great because we were close enough to the "scene" but far enough away that we could really retreat, relax and enjoy the true Greek spirit of the island. From the moment we started to plan this trip, to the moment we left, we were very impressed with the staff. They were very friendly, extremely helpful and always seemed genuinely interested in helping us plan and make the most of our stay. They had an answer for everything and made terrific recommendations. In particular, Filimon, Britta, Marilena, Marios and Anthony were real superstars (among the other terrific folks working there). When you are such a long distance from home, it is always nice to have reliable people giving you good recommendations to put your mind at ease and help make your stay a little more relaxing. The staff at Vedema did just that! As for the rooms, they were very nice and decorated in true Santorini style -- white with blue accents - picture perfect! The room was immaculate, a nice size, and had beautiful bathrooms (with Korres bath products!). The other great thing is that the hotel has shuttle service to the famous black sand beach. Once you arrived there, there were day beds, umbrellas and towels, in addition to waiter service so you were comfortable and well taken care of. I highly recommend Vedema and wish I was there now!
"Loved it! So special"

I'll start by writing that I thought I wanted to be in Fira or Oia, but my travel agent convinced me that this place would be such a special experience. I'm so glad I listened! Vedema is peaceful and serene and sits beautifully in the middle of a quaint town. It offers the best of a village experience, a beautiful view and close to the beach. Overall the grounds, rooms and pool are far more spacious and sprawling than what we had found in the more known towns where the pools are more "personal" sized and the rooms far less private. Our room was the best of a historic villa married with a modern Greek feel. All white throughout with natural touches of wood and stone. The windows and doors shut tightly so that it was very dark, cool and the sleeping in the comfy bed was so divine. There was a private lanai in the back with a private jacuzzi overlooking the water and a nearby helipad that was fun to watch (not too active - 1-2 takeoffs daily). Delicious breakfasts were set out next to the pool by a warm waitstaff. There is a view of the signature blue domed church just outside the gates while you dine. The beach is a short ride away (10 mins) and well worth it - the waters are clear and beautiful and the sand like nothing we'd seen before. There is ample seating under umbrellas even when we arrived at lunchtime. There is parking and towels at the beach for you. There is also a restaurant that serves right at your chair all day and into the evening and takes room charges. The hotel staff were very helpful in organizing dinners, local car rentals (far more reasonable than other options) and a 5 hour private boat cruise for us to tour/swim the black sand beach, the red beach, white beach and swim in the volcanic warm waters. Then lunch of whole grilled fishes and grilled vegetables were prepared. Amazing! Never to be forgotten. It didn't hurt that we were traveling with Greek friends who did the talking for us, but I believe we would have had the same wonderful experience even if on our own. The drive to Fira is about 15-20 minutes and not on the cliff drive which was ideal for us. The drive to Oia is past Fira and I'd suggest getting a local driver unless you are accustomed to driving the narrow cliff heights. I found this a bit daunting even with a driver, but still not to be missed. Every night we were so happy to return to our cozy, quiet, private villa for a great night's sleep away from the hustle and bustle of the big towns. For sure we will return. We went as a family of 5 and not one of us would stay anyplace else.

Vedema resort is a standard 5-star-hotel situated in the center of Megalohori. It's a nice resort but with terrible staff that were so rude we thanked God we'd only stay to nights in the hotel. they were never on point, we should've got our room keys at 2 o'clock in the afternoon but instead we were waiting in the restaurant till 3 and a half for them to come, the tables were poorly maintained and the staff waitresses didn't even notice us! we stayed on the table for more than half an hour waiting for a waitress to come and give us the menus, my mom even had to go to them so they would actually see we were here, that was so irrespectful i even decided not to order anything from there poor menu, and with that they took more than an hour to come with the food! We were so unpleased. Despite the lovely design of this resort, we couldn't stand the service, if you're planning to go out every day, make sure to be on time fr there free shuttles because they're so rare you'll have the impression of being attached to an appointment, and be sure to have a taxi cab number before arriving to the hotel, because their taxi partners will make pay 20 euros more than the real price, which is obviously overvalued. a taxi cab to fira would cost you 40 euros for more than 5 ppl and 60 to Oia (YOU GOTTA GO TO OIA IT'S A WOW PLACE). The informations at the front desk is not that good, for example they didn't tell us about the red sand beach nor the white sand beach but only about the black sand beach and period. The location is nice because you'e at the center of Megalohori with some national old restaurants next to the cathedral (but not more). so don't expect having the best location for activities and stuff because you've got nothing other than a ridiculously overpriced jewellery shop and restaurants. We got two connected rooms wich were very comfortable for 488 euros/night and /room which is obviously too much for its location's standards. If you're planning to go to santorini, PLEASE book an hotel in Oia villge on the beach these are MAGICALLY BEAUTIFUL and cost 250euros+ which is perfect for its wonderful location, we asked their prices while visiting Oia village and regretted our stay in Vedema, we have been to loads and loads of 5 star hotels nd Vedema just wouldn't make it, for people first time in a 5 star hotels, spend your money on something better, really, it's not worth it. Next time I'll go to santorini I'll make sure to reserve at Oia, promise!
"Low value for money"

The resort location is far from both the capital and any beaches with no iconic and defining Santorini views; Sea views from the room, as advertised, were not present as the resort lies in a small, very quiet and isolated village (with few restaurant choices). The maid service and food was very good for both the breakfast service and the Alati restaurant. Reception service was very poor and shuttle to the beach often delayed. The value for the price paid was poor and comparably, this is not a 5 star resort and lacks the defining features of one - much better choices in Santorini.

Vedema is absolutely amazing and has great service! The island itself is beautiful and so was the resort! The pool was great and so was the beach (sand was really hot!) The hotel alone is worth visiting Santorini again!
"Nice hotel but not why you go to Santorini"
08/12/14 5StarDivaFamily Long Island, New York
Catching up on our reviews. Our family stayed here in 7/2013 as part of a family group tour. The hotel was nice enough. The rooms were large and comfortable and the staff was nice. HOWEVER: The location and view is NOT why you go to Santorini. You want a view of the caldera with the magical blue water and the cliffs and all that postcard stuff. The location of this hotel is FAR from everything. And it's not easy to get transportation into Fira. Had to have the front desk practically beg to get a taxi to come to the hotel...and in the end a staff member just drove us to Fira for dinner. And the taxi back wasn't that easy either...and it's far (if I remember at least 20 minutes from Fira). The hotel restaurant looks lovely...but it's a dark enclosed space...who goes to Santorini for that? There is nothing to do in Megalochori...it's a quaint town with 2 restaurants...no thank you...I want views, views, and sunsets. Again, this hotel was chosen as part of family tour package and probably because of expense and the ability to accommodate a group of 40. Wouldn't pick it myself.
"Had a great visit"
We got bumped up to a better room without asking. The Villa, we had our own pool. We had a slight view of water. The staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was good. The pool was a lot of fun. Gull of activity. Next time I would stay closer to the action of One if the villages.

Although it was a few month ago that I traveled, the memory of this resort stays with me. It may not be over looking the caldera, but it is part of a quaint quiet town, in the middle of the Island, only a short drive from all the sights and sounds. The staff in the office were great, and arranged for a wonderful tour guide to take us to Akrotiri, as well as dinner at Mystique. We visited the beach club, and did a wine tasting. Since we only had two days in Santorini we tried to fit as much in as possible, Although there were posted times for the shuttle, it seemed to be available any time we were looking to go someplace. The room was clean, spacious and relaxing, and the welcoming bottle I wine was delicious. The room had all the amenities needed, and felt like part of a community more then just a hotel. Everyone was very friendly, and accommodating. Marios the day bartender at the pool bar was fantastic, He remembered our likes and made everything from a fantastic Latte to delicious drinks. His positive spirit and winning smile made it a delight to end our days at the bar chatting with him and helping him to practice his English. If you are looking for an outstanding resort, with wonderful staff, in a quaint and less hectic area of Santorini, I would definitely recommend Vedema. Say hi to Marios and all the staff for me. I miss this very special resort.
"Pretty resort, but far from sights"

We stayed here as part of a tour of Greece in June for 3 days. We wished it was longer! The resort is quite nice and laid out for maximum privacy. The pool was quite cold, but the hot tub was large. Service at the pool was slow. The breakfast buffet was very good- my husband was a huge fan of the "French toast"( May have been called something else). Be sure to join the Starwood program before staying as they are part of this chain and we have enjoyed comped rooms in the past from this program. Overall a great experience. We have discussed returning to Santorini, but we may look at their sister property in Oia instead for its location. Not a lot to see around the resort.
