When you enter you are greeted with a cup of tea while sitting in the lobby. John, the greeter in chief, sits down with you for a little chitchat about your plans for the few days you are there. The whole staff is very polite, helpful and well meaning. The concierge desk is extremely efficient. The accommodations exceeded our size expectations. We actually had a living room and a full bedroom. The only criticism I have is that the robes and towels were threadbare. The breakfast--full buffet style had everything you could want and was delicious. The location is excellent--easy walking distance to all the major sites and shopping.

Raffles is right by Tianamen Square, so it's great for seeing Beijing. (Most taxi drivers won't recognise the name or indeed Tianamen Square, so it's worth getting the hotel staff to write its name in Chinese to show them though...) Despite being a fairly large hotel, it has quite an intimate feel - the staff are very helpful, and on the second night there we were invited down to the lighting up of the Christmas tree, together with mulled wine, mince pies and so on. There's very little else one can say; the whole hotel is pretty much flawless.

We really appreciated the personal service. My wife thought the room was cold and a mention to the lobby manager produced a space heater in the room pronto. The tour desk performed a minor miracle during "Golden Week" and scored us tix on the high speed train to Shenyang. The breakfast was great. Lobby food and drinks are very expensive though. The location can't be beat, right in the middle of everything. We had a small suite and it was very comfortable. Would stay again at this price.

I could not have been happier with my experience at the Raffles Beijing Hotel. Our reservation was originally for the old wing, but because the room they assigned us had several steps up to the bathroom (a problem due to my being handicapped), they upgraded us to a small executive suite in the new wing. The service was incredible -- particular kudos to the Resident Service Manager who took incredible care of our needs. The room rate included an incredible breakfast. (However, the hotel restaurant and room service prices are very high.) The hotel has a brand new, fully-equipped gym, a gigantic swimming pool, and a fantastic spa (where I had a 100 minute deep-tissue massage). I could not recommend this hotel more highly. The only downside was the (sometimes) difficulty of getting a taxi in front of the hotel, made even worse by the fact that there were many world dignitaries staying there for the Euro-Asia Forum taking place in Beijing at the same time.

My wife and I travel extensively and have stayed at many great hotels but we have never had a better experience than we had on our recent 4 day stay at Raffels Beijing. Everything exceeded our expectations - super location, fantastic service, great room, reasonable rate, wonderful breakfast. This was also our first time to use Hotels.com. We were actually a little worried about paying in advance (what if they never heard of us when we check in, or will we have less service since we did not book directly). But everything went smoothly and we were treated like royalty. On check out our only bill was for laundry. The whole process worked great. Thank you Hotels.com for a wonderful experience.

This hotel was fine, but I would give it 5 stars with a BIG astrisk because the service is poor. I'm sure it is a cultural difference, but the Chinese have a different mentality of what it means to be in the service industry. I thought since this was a western chain that we could expect similar levels of service, but that was not the case. The heat in one of our two rooms was broken which made it an unbareable 95 degrees. Ratehr than move us immediately, they gave us a total run around, tried to install a mobile ac unity (that just vented into the room) and finally agreed to move us late in the night (when we would have rather been asleep). I couldn't help but think that any western 5 star would have had us in a new room immediately.

A beautiful hotel, very friendly and clean. Just 2 blocks to tienneman square and 1 block from the famous Wang Fu Jing shoopping street. The breakfast included in our rate was awesome and had plenty of american favorites. Went in the winter, so didnt know if thats why the bowling alley down stairs was closed. It also has a nice pool and spa. Made our first trip to asia very comfortable.

It was based on other reviews of the hotel that I made the choice to stay here and I was not disappointed. The Executive rooms are enormous and the special food presentations in the lounge make it an incomparable value. The front desk set up a special private tour for me to the Great Wall, with a driver and guide. The only negative is the hotels demand that guests wear a bathing cap in the pool. If they are going to make this demand, the caps should at least be provided free of charge. I look forward to a return trip again in the future.
