"Good Locaton, Good Price"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
The hotel was adequate and the location convenient for the event I attended. The price was reasonable. I appreciated the free continental breakfast. The breakfast room--an interior room without windows--is small and was crowded both days I was there. Alternate seating is in the more pleasant lobby with windows! Also at this Best Western, unlike at other BWs where I've stayed, the towels noticeably scratchy, not soft, are either old or require different laundering.
"Good food around the hotel"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
They were very friendly and close to everthing, walked all weekend, loved it
"The Best Hotel on Ocean Beach"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
This might be the nicest hotel based right on the ocean at Ocean Beach. The staff was very helpful, the room immaculate, and the location second to none. I've stayed at a number of hotels in the area, but I won't stay anywhere but here in the future. You can't go wrong with an ocean front suite!
"Design savy with great service!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
We needed a last min getaway for a few days to unwind and enjoy a romantic getaway. The hotel staff was awesome very friendly made us common folk feel like celebrities. Great service location and atmosphere . If your dog people you will love this hotel very pet friendly. We will be staying here again and bring our dog as well . The ac in the room was a lil uncopertive however the weather was perfect so not much use was needed. Room service food was great small portions but very tasty. Location is great have drinks on the. 9 h floor lounge and what the game from a spectacular view.

San Diego’s waterfront airport lies northwest of downtown, which is home to the San Diego Convention Center, PetCo Park stadium, and the Gaslamp Quarter’s. That historic neighborhood’s restaurants and bars are the hub of the city’s nightlife. Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo form a green swath in this urban jungle. Offshore, Coronado Island offers postcard views of the city skyline.

Had a fabulous time at art festival and in hotel
Nice and friendly staff. Good restaurant. The room we got - was "motel-standard", which probably refects the price. Nice neighbourhood in Little Italy. walking distance to down town - and trolley station.
"family reunion - ideal location."
The rooms were comfortable, the staff very pleasant and helpful. We will return in the future. In town for a family reunion we had a great time!
"Bad Stay"
The hotel looks like a roach motel with a few boutique decorations and a creepy 8 ft wall picture of a old man and lady next to the bed . Hotel has run down window air conditioners and old shower fixtures that don't work. Cobwebs in the corners of the room and bathroom.
"A Pretty Good Deal near Little Italy"

Lovely / first choice in San Diego for the price. But, it is close to where we met 44 years ago / so some sentimental value. Still over all Point Loma is delightful!
"like little italy"
Good stay and nice, friendly staff. The rooms are tight and dressers kinda shabby. Outdoor halls to units are a low end feel. Kool dining upstairs.

"Motel but good location"
This is a motel that they have tried to make hip but it still has that motel feel to it. Most employees were very nice but the valet guy and the girl who checked us in both were not and it made a bad impression on me. The glass door restaurant has an awesome brunch with bottomless mimosas and bloody marys and a great view. Overall we had a good time […] and it was great for the price. Read more

"Extremely Noisy!!"
We were not given the room we booked. Not a big deal. However, we specifically asked the desk clerk for a quiet room when we checked in. I don't think that if they had given us a bed in the middle of the street, it could have been any noisier. People yelling, cursing, dogs barking, people banging on doors. It didn't die down until 3:30 am. It was awful! […] The beds were not very comfortable either. When we checked out, the desk clerk never asked how our stay was. Such a shame really since it's so close to where we wanted to be. Definitely won't be staying here again. Read more
"Don't be fooled by the lobby..."
Once you walk past the lobby you walk into a dreary 1970's apartment with no updates. The bathroom's are dirty and have no shelving. They were also cheap enough to provide one bar of soap and shampoo (no conditioner). The owners were generous enough however to invest in a bar which houses loud drunks just outside your hotel room.
"My stay during Convention Conference"
Got in at airport and called at 9:30pm for shuttle pick up and they said,"the shuttle isn't available tonight." Took an $11.00 cab ride to hotel and counter person who said he had spoken to me about the shuttle did not apologize for the inconvenience! But was very matter of fact about it. Got to my room on 5th Floor after waiting forever for the small […] elevator. Settled in and went to check my email with the included wireless internet and no connection available. So I called down to lobby to ask about it and someone else informed me that it was down and not working tonight but I could walk over 3 blocks over to an internet cafe if I wanted to at 10:30pm on a Saturday night. Needless to say the same level of Non Personalized service continued through out my 4 night stay there. Owners need to really pay attention to this level of unprofessionalism! Read more
"Good location, not all promises kept"
My wife and I stayed at the Porto Vista in San Diego recently. We booked our room first, then recommended to our friends. We contacted the hotel and told them that there were going to be 2 adults in our room and the others would have only 1. The hotel said that they would make sure this was taken into account. Unfortunately, we were given a very small […] room, enough for only one person. When we asked to change, the hotel said that they were unable to do this for us. We brought to their attention what was said by the same man we were talking to, and he insisted that he never would have told us that. Also, the van service ends at night to and from the airport. I was told that they would pick me up any time for $5. When I arrived, I was told that I would have to take a cab. The fare was over $12. These are not a big deals, but are promises not kept. This property is in a great location, but take what they promise with a grain of salt. Read more

"Room not cleaned = dealbreaker"
They gave me a room that had not been cleaned since the previous person had checked out. And I don't just mean it seemed poorly cleaned - it had quite clearly not been cleaned at all. Half drunk pepsi bottles, papers from the person's conference, other trash strewn around the room, beds not made. That's a bit of a dealbreaker for me, so any other positive […] points about this hotel were a bit moot. Read more
"Good View"
This hotel will work great if you are looking for a quiet and simple stay. The rooms are clean and everything in them seems to be fairly new. I enjoyed The Glass Door Bar on the 4th floor which features a great view of the ocean with a balcony and great food/happy hour. The surrounding area in little Italy was nice and gave many Italian dinning options. […] If you are looking for a place to stay on business outside of downtown this is the place for you. Read more
"Convenient location"
Porto Vista is located in Little Italy in San Diego on a quieter corner. However, being downtown, expect some urban noise, traffic, pedestrians, sirens, street and building construction. The neighborhood is charming with many shops and great Italian restaurants, a mile away from main part of downtown and the convention center, and 2 blocks from the […] water. On weekends, a wonderful farmers' market is 2 blocks away with produce, flowers, meat, dairy and seafood stalls to browse. The hotel, however, is a glorified motel. Parking though is valet only and expensive. Read more
"Porto Vista Hotel in San Diego - Walk on by"
Well located in walkable Little Italy. A stylishly converted motel with a low-end motel feel once beyond the trendy lobby. Shabby furnishings in tiny rooms. Many better choices in same price range even in costly San Diego.
"Fine Hotel But Lousy Customer Service"
I arrived on a Friday night and checked in. The clerk that night was knowledgable and I even received an upgrade because they had sold out of the type of room I had booked. My new room was very nice although the hallway carpeting was quite dirty. For the next two days, though, none of the staff could help me. No one knew where the trolley stop was […] (three blocks away), no one knew where the Starbucks was (two blocks away), no one knew the hours of the in-hotel restaurant. No one could recommend a good restaurant (we were in Little Italy for goodness sake) or a decent bar. Then, when I was leaving, no one could tell me where to get a cab and no one called me a cab (not the front desk, not the valet). I had to lug my luggage three blocks to flag down a cab. Oh...and the maids only came 1 night to clean my room. Read more
"5 for location, so-so everything else."
Maybe it was just the lay out of our room and it feels like an old apartment complex that was turned into hotels--the spacing is awkward. Unfortunately fo this hotel, I was looking for the overall experience...I wanted to stay in a hip boutique hotel and thought initially they fit the bill. Don't let the brochure fool you, the curb appeal could be a […] little better, the courtyards and common areas were a bit dingy. My only beef is just cosmetics--but if you don't care about that and just looking for some place to lay your head, I will tell you that the customer service was decent. I love that the concierges are proactive about recommending places--that's a plus if you're new and visiting the area. YOU CANNOT BEAT THIS LOCATION--five star to that. It's in a charming street, everything is walking distance and accessible. Read more
"Glorified Motel 8"
This is the worst hotel I have every stayed at. It is nothing but a glorified Motel 8. The only good thing about it was the location. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anybody!
"Porto Vista Hotel - convenient San Diego location"
This was a clean, comfortable hotel within walking distance of Little Italy, the Harbor, and 5 minutes from the airport.
"It is what it is..."
Overall the stay was ok. Not great, but not amazing. I stayed here two weekends in a row. The staff is great which makes up for the not so great aspects of the hotel. I was dissapointed with the rooms. They were cute, but had a funky, not so pleasant smell. They were not in great condition and could use a little cosmetic upkeep. But for a place to […] put your head, with a friendly hello when you walk through the door, it's the place. The first weekend I stayed they never gave us our vouchers for the welcome drink, they did the second weekend, but I couldn't be bothered. I went out in to Little Italy for a bit more atmosphere. Getting a cab there is easy, not far from the airport, but you can take their shuttle service is you aren't in a hurry. It took about 30mins for it to come pick me up. And at least it was warm :o) Not far to walk to anything in the city. The convention center is a nice walk from there, just under 2 miles. If you forgot anything there is a Rite Aid right around the corner, as well as a 7-11. I would stay there again, inexpensive, staff friendly, and italian food out the front door! Read more
"Disappointed in the room I received."
the room as very small. It was on the ground level, next to a parking lot, with the view being an old pick-up truck and a mound of old TVs (probably 100) for disposal. The "motel" seemed dated and not maintained.
"Nice hotel, not so nice parking"
The hotel was very nice, the staff very attentative. The close proximity to Little Italy was fun, walking distance for great pizza The only draw back was the parking, you either paid to valet your car per night on top of the cost of the room plus tip. Or you searched for parking on the street. We ended up opting to move hotels and chose one with free […] parking. Read more
"Good location in Little Italy, maintenance problem"
Had a room with a toilet that didn't flush half the time. It required taking the lid off the tank and pushing down on the stop cock to get the tank to fill. Called for maintenance twice and both times someone came and took the lid off, etc., etc. After the second time they were supposed to send a maintenance man to fix it, We waited until we were tired, […] then went to sleep. Not fun to have to muck around in a hotel toilet to get it to flush! Read more

"not pleased with hotel decor and amenities"
the hotel was a little under OK I guess, I did not like the look nor the decorations, the room was very small and everything seemed crowded, the air conditioning from the room next door kept making a lot of noise considering that I didnt even turn it on myself. overall I would ot stay here again for the price paid.

"Great Location!"
Although the rooms are comfortable and quiet, this hotel's biggest draw is its location. Little Italy is right down the street, so you will find yourself surrounded by restaurants and stores. And it's a quick walk to the harbor and the Gaslamp District as well.
"Porto Vista - The name says it all"
You can definitely tell this is a renovated hotel, but the end result is pretty good. Picture a comfort inn on steroids. Given the price, this place is a great value. While it's tempting to try one of the restuarants in Little Italy, do yourself a favor and check out the Glass Door. The Lobster risotto is amazing! Parking in the area is horrendous, […] so suck it up and pay the $20 to park in the hotel. (in/out allowed) Read more

"Porto Vista"
We love staying at this hotel. The location in Little Italy is super convenient and the fact they take our doggie is a must. I was reading other reviews that complained about the airplane, freeway traffic noise and the fees to park. That is almost anywhere SD! If you're coming to this town, plan on paying lots to park. And take change to park on the […] street,. Across the freeway is the James, a five star, and about five other hotels that are nice.I'll tell you honestly that our room could use a good extra deep cleaning, in the grout and corners. But it was nice and the people are lovely. There is scads of superb dining just around the way and you are in walking distance of Sea Port Village! Read more
"Good location, Close to Little Italy Restaurants"
Convenient to waterfront, airport and downtown. Rooms are a big crowded with furniture, but o.k. Parking fee @ $22 is a rip off. Use the street instead. Neighborhood feels a bit shady with beggars and all, but that's San Diego!
"Porto Vista Stay"
The Hotel is great but they had some people working very early in the morning and being extremely loud . It made it hard to get proper rest and when I asked the guys to please keep it down they just laughed.
"Porto Vista Hotel San Diego"
This hotel is a little quirky and not easy to characterize but the room was perfectly fine and the location extremely convenient in the middle of Little Italy at the edge of downtown. There's a rooftop deck with great views of the harbor but strangely they only provided one chair tall enough to see over the railing. It looks kinda swanky from the outside […] but the interior courtyards look more motel-ish. The room had all expected amenities except a frig. I found it a good value. Read more

"Fun hotel in a great neighborhood"
Clean, funky, cute hotel in the heart of Little Italy. Great neighborhood for cute shops & good dining, minutes from the Gaslamp District. Quiet nieghborhood, but because of the open center concept, hotel hallways were noisy with people going to and from their rooms. Resturaunt upstairs was AWESOME!

"not a 3 star hotel"
I travel most of the year and I do not know how Hotels.com rated this hotel a 3 star hotel . the hotel room was dirty, there was noise in the halls all night long ,there were no plugins to charge cell phone or laptop closest one was in the bathroom the only one in the middle of the room was been use by lamp and alarm clock (with extension),to be fair […] all staff was very friendly, somebody in hotels.com drop ball I do not know how you can rate this hotel a 3 star hotel. "DONT STAY HERE!"
If you value your sleep or do not plan on coming back to your room in an alcohol coma.... The plumbing sucks, we heard every flush and shower on both floors. We woke up both night I was there at 4am. Our room was not cleaned before we got it and there was melted soap in the shower. They over charged my card and tried to blame me. The food in their "restaurant" […] was a joke. I left here a day early and stayed somewhere else. Read more
"Great First Day of our Vacation"
This is a great hotel. We arrived and it was a slow day so they very kindly upgraded us to a nicer room. The restaurant/bar is great! We got a welcome drink ticket and we really love the location. Big recommendation.
"Grungy Motel with a nice lobby"
All the previous reviews I read were very accurate. You get what you pay for. The lobby was exceptional, and the rooms were less than impressive. I will probably spend the extra money and stay somewhere nicer next time.
"Great stay"
Everything, from the front desk personnel to the accommodations in the room, was very nice. Have stayed there before and would stay there again. Only suggestions, less expensive parking for guests and counter space in bathrooms for toiletries.
