All in all it's a nice hotel, good location, my GF and I walked to the harbor which was very close. Everything was fairly close. The only bad thing if have to say is the bed was too hard and when the neighboring person is showering the water pressure is so loud in your own room.

Good location,great staff. Nice hotel, clean rooms. Caution though room 316 is fairly noisy. Below restaurant I think seemed to quite down from above after 1:00 am.

Based on the Hotels.com info, I had certain expectations about my stay. I expected a bright, spacious room with cool mural sized wall art. My room was small, fairly dark and had no art to speak of. I believe the original listing on the site mentioned that breakfast was included. The hotel said otherwise. We had even talked to the front desk the night […] before to confirm that it was. They first said yes, then the next morning said otherwise. They finally did work it out for us, but it was a hassle. Sure, there might be rooms that do have all those features, but it's disappointing to not know exactly what type of room I'd be getting ahead of time. It is so convenient to the harbor and train station and it is all within walking distance. The free breakfast consisted of eggs and meat and anythiing else you had to pay for. A couple things could have made this stay a 3 or 4 star. One our room needs a complete remodel, seems like they tried but cut all the corners. Two, this place is loud, don't expect to sleep and as other guests are rude enough to stand in front of your door and have a fifteen minute conversation. The halls were noisy people running and making all kinds of noise all night. They have a wonderful patio you can sit and look at the sunset. If you can get a spot…. They have a big open area next to this little area but it is locked up. When I first arrived, I couldnt find street parking paid Valet (expensive) for both cars. Walked inside and the center of the building is open so your hotel door leads to the outside. Nice accomodations with very cool bar on the fourth floor overlooking the city and water.. Nice neighborhood too. Plenty of bars and restaurants in "Little Italy" just one block away. About a 25 minute walk from the downtown Gaslamp area with even more. Parking is a bit expensive.

We booked this hotel because it was having a sale on one of the online sites we looked at. I was not expecting a $22 parking fee especially when they would not let us park the car. (The car has some issues and is fairly difficult to drive. The valet driver stalled it at least two times.) The free Hi speed Internet that was also supposed to be included […] would not work at all. By this point we just gave up on this hotel. We did the upgraded room so that we could have the free breakfast that was included with that but there was little to choose from at breakfast and then they charged $6 for toast! The room was nice they just did a lot of hidden fees for everything. In the end I do not think I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Read more

I really enjoyed the Porto Vista. The location was great, easy access to downtown, Sea World, Balboa Park, Coronado, and easy on and off of Interstate 5. The view from the restaurant/bar was great. The price was great. The rooms were a little old, but clean, and not uncomfortable. The bathroom lacked a place to put my makeup bag, so I had to put it […] on the floor or on top of the toilet, which made getting ready inconvenient. Loved the location in little Italy, lots of restaurants with in walking distance. I liked the valet parking, the attendants-as well as all staff, were helpful and pleasant. I would book again. Hotel was really, staff was really friendly, clean place, good location, great food. Maybe not the best choice for families. We had a party in the room next to us that lasted until 4:25am, that made it a hard night and after several calls to the front desk they finally went to bed. Needless to say when my kids woke up and me and my wife made it back […] to life after the long night. I didn't worry about telling them to be quite. I let them play hard and when I got the call from the hotel, I ignored the request since the call came from the same people that kept me up until 4:25am. Other than that we had a great time. The hotel did compensate for the trouble and gave us the free parking for our stay since the room was already pre paid. So that was cool, especially since I wasn't trying or expecting to get a discount at all. My favorite part was the artwork and the food was awesome. I would stay there again but would ask to be tucked away in a corner or somewhere away from the party crowds. Read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Porto Vista.We were there with two children who were running a muck in the hotel lobby, restaurant and outdoor patio. Everyone we interacted with (valet, reception, waiters and waitresses) were exceptionally nice and helpful.

As a business traveler, spend the extra money and stay at Doubletree two blocks away. Otherwise, the room was not set up well to work, was dated, and cramped. Staff at hotel check in and in the Glass Door upstairs were absolutely great. That really helped make the stay better. But won't go back.
