Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground - Lake Buena Vista

The room worked well for us with 3 adults and a child. Housekeeping left different towel animals every day and the bus service worked well. We liked being away from the crowds at the parks after a busy day.

Like always, it was an amazing experience staying at Fort Wilderness. Every day there is something different to do. If you run out of ideas, take the bus or the boat and visit any Disney Resort. I have a 1year old and a 5year old, plus I took my niece and a friend who are 10 and 11. There is something for everybody. A must see!

The resort feels like you are no longer in florida, with the exception that you are a 5 minute boat ride to the main entrance of the Magic Kingdom. This is a great way to see Disney. So much to do but a full service cabin in the "woods". Much better than camping for my taste. No bugs. Not so wilderness but you can park your car next to the cabin. Bring allergy medicine as cabin is a little older with carpets.

This cabin was a great place to stay as a family! It was clean, the grounds were well kept, and it was relatively easy to get from our cabin to Disney. You ride the inner campus shuttle to the bus stop by the lake, after which there is a little bit of a walk down to the water. From there you take a boat across the lake which drops you off at the front […] gates of Disney. One nice surprise was that they had a pack-n-play with clean Mickey sheets in the bedroom closet which worked well for my one year old. My four year old loved the fact that there was a bunk bed in the bedroom, and I liked that there was a safety rail all around the top bunk. There is a picnic table and charcoal grill on each deck, and a full kitchen. There was a lot of room in the cabin and it felt more like you were coming home than returning to a hotel. If you're looking to buy food the Outposts on the grounds they are a little pricey, but there are so many stores around the area you can shop at. Overall we had a great experience! Read more

Very roomy with plenty of beds for sleeping. Beds, however, were kind of hard. Staff is very friendly. Cabinets, sinks, dressers, etc. were clean, but room is due for a makeover. Some cabinets were a little beat up and one dresser drawer was broken and only opened with much difficulty.

I read the reviews on this site before booking at Fort Wilderness. I liked that cabins are equipped with kitchens so I wasn't obliged to eat expensive (and according to some reviews) not very good food. (There's enough of that to be had at the Disney Parks). There are pots, pans, silverware but no seasoning etc. The kitchen had clean and new looking […] Fridge(with ice maker) dishwasher . The grounds are beautiful. My twin teenagers and I never used any of the other amenities. We used the cabin as home base...came in late, slept late and went to" the parks". (We rented a car, bought a GPS and bought groceries at the local Winn Dixie. (W.D. is pricey, but give them your name and address and you are instantly a "preferred member" and get discounted prices). That way breakfast and late night (early morning) snack was taken care of. The cabin was cleaner and nicer inside than I expected given some of the other reviews. I did have a sagging bed, that I called housekeeping about. I thought it was a bad mattress. Turned out it was a broken board in the box spring frame. They changed it out promptly. Maria, the housekeeper was very sweet, but spoke virtually no English. Take care stepping out of the the tub/shower....it's a bigger than normal step down than you'd expect. Fortunately they provide a cable for internet. Unfortunately they charge $10.00 for every 24 "contiguous" hours. If it's rides you're after, I recommend Universal Studios over the Disney parks. Read more

I was saddened to find that the cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness have not changed since I was last there 20 years ago. From the aging units complete with tube televisions with no reception, warped decks that are falling apart, to the bugs in your room to the entry door not working and being locked out of our room in the rain for 45 mins it was not […] the 'Magical' experience we had expected for the price. The customer service was nothing special and when there was an issue we were treated as though we should wait until they got around to helping us. We dediced not to rent a golf cart but did call a week prior to request a cabin near a bus stop, which they easily accomidated. Once we figured out the bus routes, it was easy to get around the resort. We had groceries delivered. […] It was great to make a few meals and have drinks to take into the parks - a big money saver. The cabin and entire resort was clean and staff was very helpful. So many activities to do at the resort itself - most we didn't even have time for! We had stayed in the cabins twice before this last trip and were previously satisfied with the overall room. This trip, I feel like we got the "bargain" room. We had to call maintanence to fix a broken sink handle, clogged shower drain and lights not working. The maid service was fair only. The location of the cabin was at the corner of two busy roads […] and across from the bus stop so we heard buses constantly. I think the cabins at Fort Wilderness need some much needed improvements. There were nails sticking up in several spots on the deck and the Refrigerator had rust on the side and front. The usual Disney "magic" that you expect from a Disney hotel was not apparent for us during this stay. I would drop the star number to a 2. Everything was pretty much as expected. We even got to checkin early (about 1:30p) and checkout a little late (about 12:30p) - which was a pleasant surprise. Fun place for kids. Cabin was well stocked/maintained and more than comfy and spacious. Onsite stores very pricey so try to bring groceries from outside if possible or have them delivered by garden […] grocer. Golf carts (for those without rental cars) are pretty much a necessity if you don't wanna wait for (the fairly frequent) buses all over the property but are pricey at about $65 per day (heck, a rental car is cheaper AND has airconditioning) but the fun factor for the kids is priceless (I guess). Absolutely don't miss the buffalo wings in the onsite bar/restaurant - way better than Hooter's. The electric light & fireworks show from the beach is an absolute MUST DO/SEE!!! Lot's more fun stuff here reasonably priced such as fishing, bike riding, boat rentals, smores with Chip n Dale (a must for little ones). Overall, a 3-4 star hotel but a 5 star fun experience. For a Disney visit this is the best place for a Family of 6 to stay, The cabin has a pull down murphy bed, a bunk bed and a double. Fully equipped kitchen w/ dishwasher. Maid service is daily with tons of soap,shampoo and loads of towels,coffee packets everyday as well. The cabins are starting to show their age though, peeling melamine, worn deck out […] front and some other items but nothing dangerous yet( pay attention Disney and spend some $$ on upkeep). I think this makes it difficult for the maid staff to really give a super cleaning to the room as well. Pools are great, lots of pool activities, other programs have a cost (check their website). The setting of the log cabins in Fort Wilderness is fantastic, very quiet and peaceful surrounded by trees, it feels like you are really in the wilderness and yet you are so close to the theme parks. The kitchen is excellent, with a large fridge, oven and hob. Perfect if you want to cook your own evening meal for a change from 'theme park food'.
