"Great location, not-too-smart front desk staff"
This Courtyard is close to a subway stop so that was very convenient. Our room was clean. My only complaint is the front desk staff. They weren't rude, just "slow." One staff in particular had to repeat a reservation number several times before he got it. Then when I handed him my credit card, he asked if I had another one because it was expiring on […] 9/14. Huh? Then he eventually "got it." The same staff asked us if we had paid for the airport shuttle. So we did and we paid $10 for two passengers. Then he issued us two different looking stubs. Then it turned out, the driver didn't even ask for the stubs! We also left out bags for safekeeping so we could continue exploring the city after check-out. When we got back, they couldn't find our bags at first. So the rooms are great but you may need a bit more patience dealing with the front desk staff, or maybe just that one guy in particular. Just two stops away from South Station on the T Red line, the rooms at the hotel are priced quite a bit lower than being "in town." Absolutely no issues with cleanliness or service, very much in line with any room at a Courtyard Marriott. It does take a 5 minute walk to get there from the T station and it is not located in a upscale neighborhood. My girfriend and I stayed at this hotel on a Friday night for a mini vacation we planned. We attended a Celtics game Friday night and a Bruins game Saturday @ 1pm. Andrew station and the red line is only a 5-10 min walk away, and only a $2.50 charlie ticket ride away (20 min) from North Station. The staff tried to give us a king-size room with a pull-out instead of the queen-queen for which we PREPAID. When I went back downstairs and talked to the clerk about it, he told me that wasn't what I reserved -- a complete lie. Then, on top of that, he told me they didn't have any more queen-queen rooms. That turned out not to be true as well when […] another clerk found one on the computer. Then, they gave us a key for the wrong room, so I had to get that straightened out. Later, there were drunken teenagers walking the halls, yelling and goofing around, till 1:30 a.m. When they were finally kicked out, there were gunshots in the rear parking lot under our window, followed by a police manhunt with 6-7 cop cars driving all around the property. We chose this hotel because of the free parking and its proximity to the T (Andrew St Station, only a short walk away). We were pretty excited to find out that there was a hot tub, and it was the first thing we checked out after checking in. Unfortunately, it was caution-taped off and there was a sign saying "Jacuzzi Out of Order." We explored the city […] that night and the next day. After a long day of walking we decided that we would head back early iIF the hot tub was fixed and have a relaxing night at the hotel, otherwise (since there isn't much to do in the hotel's immediate area), we would stay out and see the nightlife in Boston. We called the hotel inquiring about the Hot Tub. The person at the front desk replied that she didn’t know it was broken and went to check on it then said it was fixed. We came back to the hotel only to see the same sign (located about 5-10 feet from the concierge desk) and the same caution tape. When we asked why they told us it was fixed, one person said "Oh it WAS fixed and then it broke again." (In the span of an hour?) Then the second concierge admitted that she actually didn't know what we were talking about and she thought we meant the hot tub in the “Jacuzzi Suite.” Disappointed, we went back to our rooms. When I went into the bathroom I saw that the juice I poured into the sink that morning was still there but easily washed away by turning on the faucet. "A bit out of the way"
The room was nice ... comfortable ... clean. Nice looking hotel but inconvenient to the subway, especially if you have difficulty walking (not good at all for people in walkers or wheelchairs). Trying to get a taxi was like pulling teeth and the hotel staff were no help at all. The first night I was there the young man at the desk insisted I should […] take the subway rather than wait for the taxi ... I explained to him TWICE that I was new to Boston, did not know where the restaurant was where I was going to, and that I had not learned how to use the subway yet ... I had only arrived 2 hours earlier. "Well I'll call a taxi for you if you really want me too." was his answer. Waited for 1/2 an hour before calling the cab company myself ... and we only lucked out with a cab 15 minutes later because someone was being dropped off from the airport. Fortunately the restaurant was able to still seat us. For the rest of the stay we experienced the same unfriendliness from the hotel staff ... like we were a bother. Beds in my room were the most uncomfortable my wife and I have ever slept on. We did notice that new mattresses were being moved into rooms so the hotel may be in the process of upgrading them.
