Very convenient place to stay to visit Volcano National Park when you have a rental car. Easy to find and abundant parking. Room was clean and spacious. Fresh breakfast with toast, fresh fruit, coffee/juices.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Aloha Happy Place"
Our first trip to Volcano, HI. Aloha Happy Place is quaint, convenient and comfortable. The room was clean and bright with nice, warm bedding (gets cold there at night!) a large bathroom and overlooked the farm animals (goats, chickens). Breakfast in the morning included local fruit, baked goods and cereal. Umbrellas and flashlights were provided for […] night viewing of the volcano. The park was a 10 minute drive away. The host made us feel welcome and comfortable. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place very close to the Volcanoes National P"
Nice and quiet place. Safe area. Great service. Room cold at night (only drawback). Very close to the Volcanoes National Park entrance. Fireplace was on, very comfortable living room. Good breakfast. Lower cost than hotels nearby.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location is great as it's near the Volcano NP. Unfortunately, that's all this hotel is good for. The rooms are in a remote condition. The bath door could not be closed, the windows are extremely dirty, all is very humid and towels are not clean. We could have lived with that if we hadn't paid more than $140.-/night, but something in the range of […] a basic mountain cottage. People will come here once, visit the NP and never return. A pity that customers are treated this way... Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a B&B, not a hotel, and it was just to my wife's and my liking! Charming, clean, well-kept and comfortable! The proprietor provided everything you might need. Considering a picnic lunch? Borrow an insulated lunchbox. Raining outside? Borrow an umbrella or raincoat. Fancy a spot of tea as you relax in your slippers before the fire the proprietor […] set each evening? A self-service tea service--and cozy slippers--are at your service! I've read a review or two that complained about the weather and other things outside of the proprietor's responsibility, but as far as my wife and I are concerned, everything within her purview was well and truly accounted for! Aloha Happy Place also referred as Aloha Happy Ranch is not a Hotel, just a B&B (even without breakfast); they call it Eco-Agri-Tourist Farmstay. I was there in October, it was rainy & cold, the rooms had no heating unit. "Older house no breakfast."
Arrived approx. 4pm having registered on line w/Expedia the nite before. Found 3 guests of a family on front porch enjoying. rang bell at 'office' door. no response after several tries. Guest on porch advises that 'she' is out caring for the horses. He goes around back to barn and calls 'host'.. She comes apologizing that she wasn't expecting anyone […] else. Room is very small but clean and pleasant. Probably was a 'sun' room when a home. Twin beds, dresser and desk fill room. Closet. No other amenities. Nice clean bathroom with clean linens. Great place to stay if only want clean room to sleep and take shower. We spent three days enjoying the views in the area. Great museum and art gallery. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful little place"
As B&B's go this was a very nice place. Quiet, clean, and very close to many of the Volcano locations. Joan, the inn keeper was super friendly and helpful. Will visit Again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Simple, convenient, quirky"
Nice little place. Think grandma's house. We stayed in the Bamboo room, which had a nice view of the back yard and chicken coops. I was a bit frustrated trying to call someone to verify directions because I couldn't access my confirmation. But keys and instructions were waiting for us at the office. No problems. Fabulous super screaming fast WiFi!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"nice historic hotel in Volcano"
We were advised on how to get in to see the Merry Monarch on Wednesday. We had a wonderful dinner at the Hilo Bay Café and then went to the event. It was truly wonderful. This would be a great place to stay to see the volcano also.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great location to visit Volcanoes National Park"
The location is great if you are planning to go to VNP - only about 2-3 miles from the entrance of the park, perfect for viewing Halema'uma'u at night. The room is clean, albeit the minimal amenities (the fridge and microwave is shared with the house), and bonus is that you get your own bathroom. The internet didn't work while we were there, but there […] is a collection of movies and books available to watch (don't be afraid to explore the living room!) The surrounding neighborhood is charming and lush, but if you need supplies or want to eat in the immediate area, be aware that everything closes early! (The local general store closes at 7pm, restaurants close by 9pm). The innkeeper can be a bit brusque, but we didn't mind it so much, she gave us our space and let us relax after a long day of hiking and exploring. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Excellent value and location for exploring the volcano park. Room was comfortable and clean. Lots of artifacts and interesting books in the library of this converted home. "Quiet and full of History"
I wish we could have stayed at least one more night. The library was full of books on Hawaii history and other interesting books that we could have spent a lot more time perusing. All sorts of Polynesian artifacts and pictures were on display - fascinating stuff! We loved being the only ones in the house - didn't even encounter the owners! It was all […] very well-organized with thorough instructions for us - room was lovely. We stayed in the Paniolo room (cowboy-theme). Only issue was the door handle to the bathroom kept falling off; also the rooms weren't sound-proof at all. If anyone else was there we would have had to have been very careful about keeping our voices down. We were under the assumption it was a bed and breakfast - expected some sort of food at breakfast (even just fruit and pastries) - but that was our mistake. We had dinner at a great Thai place down the road, then for breakfast walked to the Volcano Inn's cafe and had a fabulous healthy breakfast. Great place to take long walks in the rain forest - would definitely go back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Not enough hot water for 2 short showers. A rooster started crowing at 3 am, a goat at 4 and dog at 5am. By 6 am they were all silent, and we were up. The good news about this is that we beat all the crowds hiking. We were there for 2 nights and it was the same both nights, only much less hot water the 2nd night. We were sick with lack of sleep by the […] 2nd night. We noticed that the other guests were also out by 630-700am. "It was OK"
Considered the price we paid, it wasn't too bad to stay there. It was 5min away from Volcano National Park, which was really convenient. We were able to go back to the Park at night to see lava, although it was too fogy to be able to see it. If you like Thai food, there was a very nice Thai restaurant in between the hotel and the Park. I didn't really […] enjoy the hotel itself. The house was very old. It was kind of smelly due to the rainy weather there. My boyfriend thought the smell was OK, but I just couldn't stand it. Although we didn't meet the owner, he/she must be a very considerate person. He/she prepared rain coats and umbrellas by the door for you to use. You know, it rains every day there. Overall, it was OK. The price was low and the location was very convenient. Good location, place smells very musty. But since this is the only place we have stayed in the Volcano area not sure if it is a common smell for all accommodations. This was an elegant place to stay. Someone had paid attention to detail in designing these rooms, down to the fresh orchids on the antique dresser. The main lodge was a quaint room filled with treasures from travels overseas and a fireplace with wood cut for building a fire. Charming. I would definitely stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A wonderful country place"

"Would stay here again :)"
It was our first stay at a Bed and Breakfast. Strange that this B&B didn't serve breakfast. The place was cute, our room was clean, and we even had our own dehumidifier in our room that worked GREAT and helped a lot :) The place had a wood fireplace anyone could use, a large selection of movies in the movie library, and information of what to do in […] the area. They were even thoughtful and had 2 flashlights in the room to use at If we decided to see the Volcano at night. Not many choices of restaurants in town, but we didn't care as we were there for Volcano National Park (which was less than a 5 minute drive). Over all, it was nice, quiet, clean. "Nice house and grounds"
The house is clean and has character. It is right outside the Volcano National Park. There are 3 restaurants and a small store nearby. Since it was rainy and around 50 degrees F when we were there, it would have been nice to have a space heater; however, there were several blankets on the beds, which made the night warm enough.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Comfortable older house. Although there was not a staff person to greet us there was a phone number if we needed help and it all felt very comfortable and friendly. We would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Avoid the Aloha"
Arrived and there was an overwhelming smell of fresh manure everywhere. The cottage was cold and had been closed up long enough to develop a mildew aroma that last well into the night despite our attempts to air it out. My husband called the owner several times to see if we could get some kind of heater for our room, but never got a response. "Sleepy Inn in a sleepy town."
This is a small Inn in the sleepy town of Volcano. If you are staying at Volcano, then you already have very limited options. At night there is complete pitch-dark blackness. Once we found the place with the helpful Volcano resident, we found a named package for us at the door of the office, containing keys and instructions for the room. Its a small […] old style house with separate rooms at the second floor. Common room on the ground floor, a beautiful library and sitting area besides that. Once we got in, it was like getting transported to a colonial age. The room was clean and comfirtable. Wifi was available. Only concern was lack of heating, since it can get quite cold at night in Volcano. We were the only ones staying at the Inn that night, so it was kinda scary as well as exciting. But overall enjoyed the stay. Worth an experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews, but were pleasantly surprised. As noted in the listing, this isn't really a Bed and Breakfast as no food is provided. There was a coffee maker and a small fridge in the room. There are no chickens on the property, but Volcano is a rural village and the neighborhood has a rooster who started […] crowing at 4 AM. If you are a light sleeper or don't care for crowing, stay in Hilo where such sounds are less likely. We stayed in the Paniolo Room which was very spacious and clean. The house is charming and was very quiet. It has a large library with a working fireplace and internet access. The gardens were lovely with horses in the rear of the property. We met the owner on our arrival and our interaction was pleasant. It was a little chilly in the morning and some way to warm up the room would have been appreciated. We'd definitely stay here again! "OK if you just want a cheap bed"
Fine for someone wanting cheap room, clean bed but unkept room (filthy windows, broken screens, stained curtain, etc.) and knows area. NO CONTACT with owner at all (key left on office door for room) saw no human in 3 days so I wouldn't think very nice for a visitor that wants some interaction or feedback and info about the area. NO BREAKFAST so not really […] a bargin if you can manage to find a room elsewhere. small shared living room with fireplace (wood available to start your own fire) videos, etc, with "internet" connection we could not access. glass we used for drink of water in entry still sitting there (dirty) on third day when we left. Very strange, but it is what it is. Certainly not the "volcano" experience I am use to (I am a local but frequently take visitors there) but if you just want a bed it was fine. they do leave flashlights, waterproofs, umbrellas, etc at door for visitors to use. easy to find, conveneint to village stores, etc Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

WE TOOK OUR 11 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER ON VACATION WITH US AND WE ALL LOVED THIS ROOM. WE STAYED 3 NIGHTS. IT WAS DECORATED IN COWBOY STYLE AND WE FOUND IT CHARMING. THERE WERE RAINCOATS AND HATS BY THE […] FRONT DOOR TO USE AS WELL AS SLIPPERS OF ALL SIZES BECAUSE YOU NEED TO TAKE OFF YOUR SHOES WHEN ENTERING THE BUILDING. "Find another one."
Cold, cold and cold! Although the city of Volcano is in Hawaii, this area is cold (<50F) in the summer night. No heater in the Inn. Although my room had a humidifier, the air is quite damp and blanckets smell bad because of the damp inside air. I can't open windows which are very old and just stuck to window frames. So it was hard to ventilate air. […] If this inn has a heater, the humidity will decrease. Without a heater, don't stay here even in the summer. I don't have any inn-keeper service during my two-night-long stay. Water from the shower has so low pressure, compared to quite qood pressure for the facet in the sink.
