This is a very nice small boutique hotel that's a renovated plantation house. The hotel has been upgraded and while the room are small they are well appointed and maintained. Our room has an attached patio atrium with water feature and tropical plants. That feature brought a lot of natural light into our room and provided us a nice place to take morning […] coffee. Everyone who worked at this hotel was gracious, helpful and friendly. The hotel was extremely well maintained, clean and comfortable. We stayed there four nights. We ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel and found the food to be excellent and reasonably priced for the quality and service provided. We would definitely stay there again.

This is a nicely maintained, beautiful hotel. Our room was very comfortable, staff was friendly and professional, especially Marco at the gift shop, who was very informative and eager to help. However, there is no elevator and service at the restaurant was not so great.

Beautiful place to stay! Staff was very nice and helped us with all of our questions. A bit pricey to eat here but it was good. Must try the banana colida! The best drink ever. Spa was pretty but walls are thin so you can here the noise from outside and people walking through the halls. Not far from the downtown.

Did not care for the neighborhood, did not feel safe. Restaurant service was a big disappointment. I alerted the waiter of my food allergy. When asked if a dish contained the named allergen, he assured me it did not. I ordered based on his false claim. Wait staff is not to be trusted!

Tasteful hotel with a wonderful elegant restaurant on site. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Staff was very service oriented and went out of their way to find us a scale so that we could weigh our luggage as needed for other parts of our trip. Worth staying in San Jose rather than by the airport for the service and comfort of this classic hotel. The best restaurant in Costa Rica- definitely plan to have meals here. Walking distance to museums and galleries. The rental car agencies will pick up or drop off your car here.

Great hotel with a great staff. Extremely clean, up to date rooms. We stayed there on our first and last nights in Costa Rica. A good plus is they will arrange a shuttle either to or from the airport for $25 and there is a budget rental car location at the end of the block. Very convienent when renting a vehicle for the rest of your trip.

The hotel was incredible. Service was better than could be expected. I lost my entire wallet with passports, credit/debit card, driver's license and cash. The hotel immediately did everything they could to help me locate the cab I lost the wallet in, and stayed with the process, including telling me they would work out arrangements for payment of my […] room after advising me to cancel my credit/debit card, helped me to get to the Embassy to fill out the necessary paperwork for new passports, and called the Embassy to pass on a message to me that my wallet was found by the taxi driver and being returned. Even without a disaster, they were great and always willing to help with anything I needed. The hotel is a relatively short walk to downtown where you can visit museums, shop, central market, galleries and restaurants. There is no restaurants to speak of close to the hotel so if you are not eating at the hotel, it really requires a cab instead of walking. The ONLY downfall to the hotel was in fact the restaurant. My son and I did not really enjoy the meals there (think rich and complex food on the expensive side) enough to make it a routine place to eat. It is a beautiful restaurant, just like the rest of the hotel, but hard on the tummy with so much richness in the dishes. Despite the restaurant issue, I would go back there in a minute. I would not consider any other hotel in San Jose because of the incredible service and close in location. Read more

We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel, rooms, and staff were all amazing. The restaurant - although a bit pricey - had some of the best food we've had in Costa Rica. The only downside might be the location - a good 10-15 minute walk from the city.

A quiet and inviting retreat in the middle of the city. We were warmly greeted with refreshing drinks and escorted to our room. The room was comfortable and spacious. Beautiful historic hotel. Friendly and knowledgeable hotel staff, Just a block away from the main road through San Jose and we walked to all the sights we wanted to see in the city. Delicious food by Chef Francis Canal and staff. When we return to Costa Rica we will definitely stay here again.

The hotel was beautiful. The only reason I give a 4 instead of a 5 for the staff was because we had arranged a day trip and the trip didnt show. It wasnt the hotels fault, but really who cares. They wanted the zipline company to agree to pay for the taxi to catch up with the rest of the tour and the zipling company wasnt calling back or responding properly […] so it went on for too long. I finally said that I didnt really want to be there anymore and I didnt care who's fault it was, that I wanted to go on the tour and not sit in the hotel on my vacation any longer. They immediately got a cab and that was that. Still, I shouldnt have been upset before the moved forward but Costa Rica's are generally more laid back than I am.The hotel was beautiful. The only thing was there were that many restuarants near it within walking distance. Read more

The staff can quickly became acquainted with our and was VERY intent on ensuring that we were happy with our stay. Overall condition of hotel and restaurant (excluding the rooms) were beautiful and elegant. It seems the all the attention and money vanished when it was time to renovate the rooms. Our room had very thin walls or lack of insulation because we could hear everything from inside our room. Including the kids next door, the fountain out side and any passing […] foot traffic in the hall. With the exception of the counter top in the bathroom everything was low grade and out dated. There were no in room amenities such as an ice bucket or ironing board or iron. When I called for an iron they showed-up with an old iron and board. The iron was lashed to the board with a steal cable as if someone was going to steal it. They gave us the impression that it was there only iron in house due to an abnormal sense of urgency in returning it. No dresser or shelving to place luggage. Therefore one of our bags rested on the one standard folding luggage stand, the rest were on the other bed that we did not request and on the limited floor space. Over all, the quality of the room did not come close to the price of the room. I would suggest just visiting the hotel and restaurant but stay somewhere else. Plan and simple, way over priced. The staff was superb. San Jose is a very dangerous area (downtown) but the staff directed us with care so that we enjoyed our trip and remained safe. The room was nice, clean, and they welcomed us with fresh fruits and real fruit juice freshly squeezed. I would go again tomorrow.
