Fairmont Peace Hotel - Shanghai

My daughter and I have been visiting Shanghai for two years as we have lived in nearby Hangzhou. We always stopped by at Victor's for breakfast as well as the beautifully appointed Cathay room for dim sum both found in the beautiful historical Peace Hotel (not to be confused with the Swatch Peace Hotel). We always have had numerous questions on where […] to go, where to eat, where to find obscure items in Shanghai and found that Ben at the Concierge desk always had the answers. That is why, on our last night in China, we stayed at the Peace Hotel and were blown away by the room. We have stayed in luxurious hotels before but the Peace Hotel is history. The pristine room was appointed with quality pieces with a modern feel. The marble floored bathrooms with high end amenities made one feel like a royalty. To tell you the truth, we did not want to leave the room. It was spacious with a king bed, sofa, and desk- a very comfortable room. It is the nearest hotel to the Bund, the walkway along the HuangPu River on Nanjing Road. It has the perfect location. The quality of service is the best of I have ever experienced. Ben negotiated on my behalf for a better rate on the car service to the airport. The service in the restaurants is friendly and efficient, you must try the Cathay room with its beautiful view of the Bund. My daughter and I had a foot massage and a manicure- both were delightful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a true "Shanghai experience". Read more

The Fairmont is a beautifully restored old hotel. We loved our experience there. We had dinner at the Cathay Room which has great views of the Pudong skyline and delicious food. Victor's was a good place to get breakfast and coffee or tea, although the service was a bit slow. The location of the hotel is excellent - right across from the Bund and within […] short walking distance to the subway, Nanjing Road's pedestrian street, Yu Gardens and Bazaar. Our spa experience was excellent and we enjoyed the use of the pool and exercise room. I loved the old bathtub and the slippers in the room. The only complaints I have are small: the service at Victor's was a bit slow, we had to call one night for turndown service and bath gel, and it would have been nice if they had replenished the fruit that was in the room when we arrived. That being said, the hotel was top class and we experienced great customer service from reservations, concierge and the Cathay Room servers. Our room was beautifully appointed, just like the rest of the hotel. If we are ever back in Shanghai we will sat there again! Read more

This was my second stay at the Peace Hotel. The rooms are gorgeous--with an expresso machine, a huge beautiful bathroom with a tv, the most comfortable bed ever. I had hoped to use the pool but on arrival learned it was down for 8-10 days maintenance. If this is known in advance it should be posted ahead of time. They did make the Westin Hotel available and would even reimburse taxi fair. I tried that once and they did have a pretty good pool too. Hotel has many ++++'s. Worth a stay.

Beautiful, spacious rooms. Giant bathroom with all the amenities (including TV above tub). Espresso machine with free coffee. Always very courteous service. Internet access seemed expensive, especially considering that other hotels of this class provide it for free. But overall great place and the location right on the Bund is difficult to beat.

3rd time there. Must say the 1st, right after the reopening, was the most satisfying. Service was spotless. 2nd time, they charged the credit card I made my reservation with in spite of my saying, when checking in, that I would be paying cash. Reaction at check out was "oh, there is nothing we can do". The 3rd time, theyhad changed the breakfast restaurant […] to the Chinese place on the 8th floor - bigger, but a lot less charming, than the previous venue on the 9th. Also, because the room is bigger and noisier, there is no need for the loud (and repetitive) music playing. It just does not make for a pleasant breakfast, all you wanna do is get out of there. Which is not the point for the guest who wants to linger on their weekend off. But maybe that is what management wants. Concierge was a bit to eager to be efficient (or get rid of us), even if there were not other guest waiting. Both times we went to see him, he just gave us quick answers and did not seem to be making much of an effort to help. I asked if he had a copy of Time Out magazine so that I could know what was on in town, he did not have one (which is ok) and did not try to offer any info on shows, exhibits, etc (which is not really ok). As to the room, the only problem was that we were two long haired ladies and there was not enough shampoo/conditioner for both (1 bottle of each, no extras during our stay). The Fairmont Peace Hotel is, with the Penninsula next door, a marquee hotel in Shanghai. It is like staying at the Waldorf in NY or the Dorchester in London. The Fairmont Peace Hotel had been recommended by a friend who had stayed there in 2006 and was completely in love with the art deco style. We were unaware that a complete building refurbishment had taken place and had only been completed one month prior to our visit, we were among the first to stay. Our room was luxurious and extravagant with generous […] proportions, the fixtures and fittings were of the best quality and the bathroom was also impressive. Our check-in was very smooth and efficient and the foyer was breathtaking with masses of flowers, a very welcoming sight after travelling for some time. Over the course of our stay we used most of the facilities that were on offer at the hotel. Room service, restaurants, concierge - I must say Steven Zhang, Assistant Chief Concierge was most informative and charming, he pointed us in the right direction on many occasions. We also found the Dragon Phoenix restaurant had a very comprehensive menu and was very entertaining at our window table with fabulous views of the Bund and the Huangpu River with constant ferry activity. The only downside to our stay was the spa and swimming pool were still being renovated plus the rooftop outdoor dining area had yet to be completed, these facilities would have been very appreciated after many hours spent walking the streets of Shanghai sightseeing. We had a great stay at this hotel. Room was the about the nicest I have ever stayed at - we usually go four seasons. Location is also the best. If you can afford it don't stay anywhere else. I'd been to Shanghai before and LOVE this art deco building. Tourists go into the lobby just to take photographs. And they have a jazz band every evening. バイオリンの生演奏のお出迎えが印象的でした。宿泊したのが12/24だったのでロビーの大きなツリーも綺麗でした。レセプションの方の対応も丁寧でした。部屋は広く清潔でした。浴室もバスタブがセレブっぽい独立タイプで、シャワーブースも独立型で座れる設計になっており使いやすかったです。アメニティーもミラーハリスで充実していました。エスプレッソマシーンが置いてあったり、ウェルカムフエウーツもあり満足でした。 1階の有名なジャズ演奏の聴けるバーで軽く飲みました。 いつもの味のある老紳士楽団ではなかったのですが、クリスマスイヴの夜にふさわしい 本格的な演奏が聴けてた上、会計も高額ではなく得した気分でした。 全体的に満足度の高い滞在になりました。
