Isaacs Hostel - Dublin

Having actually booked a room at their smaller sister hostel, Isaacs, I was sort of taken aback to be staying here instead, which is much much larger. PROS: Lots of people around to get acquainted with, free breakfast (even if it's just toast and coffee), several common areas, a huge kitchen, and very centrally located in City Centre near busses, trains, […] and shopping. CONS: It's so loud. It was pretty crowded when I was there, but the common rooms got absolutely crazy in the evenings with people, and anyone who is outside can be heard very clearly in the upstairs bedrooms. Also, the Wi-fi was horrible. It rarely worked for more than 5 minutes, and when it did it was slow and unreliable. We would ask about it frequently, but I think that just started to irritate the staff because they can only reset the router so many times. I suspect it was just too many people on the same router, but I don't know for sure. Also a con: they close the kitchen from 3-5 (sometimes 5:30) for cleaning every day, which is annoying because after breakfast that is the only place to get cups and hot water or coffee. all staff members were helpful at all times...was made to feel welcome despite the age difference...wish some of the guests were more respectful of their noise when coming to hostel late in the evening... the sauna was a plus...

Great staff, nice easy going place to stay. That said, there are too many loose ends that need sorting out before I'd recommend the place. None of the vending machines was in working order. 3 of them rejected all coins, one machine accepted all coins, and kept them. The wireless internet coverage is extremely inconsistent, part of this is no doubt caused […] by the thick stone walls. However, the signal was sporadic in all parts of both the lobby and basement, non-existent in the dorms. This could be very cheaply and easily remedied. Also, wired Ethernet connection points provided in several areas were not active while I was there. Fixing these problems would improve the quality immensely. Staff were lovely, no complaints there at all. Frustratingly none of the vending machines were working, some rejected all coins, others simply kept them. Best for young single people who like to stay out drinking all night. Double rooms are overpriced, and the guests leave the bathrooms and kitchen a mess. The staff are polite and helpful, but outnumbered by the hordes of inconsiderate passers-through.

As soon as I entered the hostel I knew it was going to be a good experience. The lobby was filled with fellow travelers and the ambiance was very welcoming. Check-in was quick and easy, and the receptionist was very friendly and helpful. The location of the hostel was more than perfect, it was a few blocks away from O'Connell street and a 1 minute walk […] to public transportation. The Location is perfect, being closed to the central bus station. The City center and Temple Bar district is round the corner. Other places of interest that are nearby are Trinity college and Dublin castle. - A big plus to be mentioned is from 6pm to 9pm the Hostel offers a sauna service.

Found Isaacs to be a great hostel with good facilities and close enough to all major attractions in Dublin Unfortunately our room was below the train line and there are A LOT of trains but wasn't that bad it certainly wouldn't stop me from staying there again. Nice to introduce my son to the bustle of a hostel environment and Isaacs is one of the best I know in Dublin. But the individual rooms are not great value with no facilities, no free towels and (of course) no parking. May as well charge a little for a breakfast thats a bit less basic than toast and jam.

It's right beside the Dublin tram system which is a great way to get around the city. It's also right next to the bus station...again, great if you need to get to the airport or another city! Isaacs is a very nice hostel. Considering that it was the first time when I tried this type of accomodation, I was very pleased with the service. It is fairly noisy, as most of the tourists come there for fun, and you can also hear the trains when the DART service is running, but I do not consider that a major inconvenience, as I cannot believe that […] a tourist would travel to Dublin to stay in their room- Dublin is too awesome for that. Very cheap hostel, but pay a little extra and go somewhere else. I did not think it was possible to sweat in Dublin until I stayed at this place. The windows in the rooms barely opened. No lockers. Bad Breakfast. Only good aspect was the location.

I found my stay at Isaacs Hostel very comfortable. It was in a very good location, a two minute walk from Busaras bus station and Luas, and a 20 mins walk from Grafton Street. There was a very nice atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and hospitable. If I had any problems it would be the mixed dorms which I felt was quite awkward at times. The hostel itself is an older building, but kept fairly clean. The service is hit and miss depending on who is working the front desk. The free breakfast is standard fare, but included the additions of fresh coffee and orange juice. There is a small sauna that is very nice after a long day of traveling. The trains going by outside and the talking of people in the street late at night , made it hard for me to sleep. No complaints about this hostel with exception to one thing (which is out of the hands of the hostel managers)...the train line being located directly next to it!! It wasn't too much of an issue for me and my mate as we were very drunk both nights so didn't affect our sleep too much. Nice hostel, nice clean rooms and toilets and showers. Good service. Overall I was very satisfied, but the problem was a verz loud night due to partying in neighbouring rooms, impossible to sleep. Looks like a party-hostel with young crowds. Would recommend the hostel to anyone, but the noise in the night can be terrible, prepare earplugs!

Location + price fine. On checkin was handed envelope of tickets for "fruit juice,cereal,toast,tea/coffee" Room had towels but no soap or shampoo, also a kettle but no tea,coffee or milk. Towards the end of my first (rather good) breakfast I was informed my booking did not include breakfast. I returned later with a voucher + this seemed ok. Next time […] I took the voucher + was escorted to a side room + provided with only items described. I didnt see any restrictions on breakfast when I booked, but didnt have hard copy with me then. Used this hostel as a cheap alternative to a hotel as I was in town to run the Marathon. For hostel standards it's really good. Clean surrounding, polite staff and the only vending machine that serves beer I have ever seen - love it! The only two drawbacks where the so called 'continental breakfast' I think that is a bit misleading as all you get is […] toast with butter or jam, cereal and milk and tea or coffee. I have stayed in many places and that does not constitute a continental breakfast. Fruit salad, croissants, some eggs and meat and maybe you could call it that! Also the showers where way too cold! brr. Especially the ones downstairs in the basement. It would be nice if there was an individual temperature control. On the whole anyway, very happy with my trip and the exceptionally helpful staff. Would definitely use again but will probably cook my own breakfast. Oooh and another thing it's not very far from the city centre at all. Just a short walk about 10 mins which is really handy and the 747 airport bus stops almost right outside the hostel. Kind of loud. You'll want to bring ear plugs if your floor mates are inconsiderate. You have no control over the temperature of the shower which kind of sucks and they automatically shut off every 10 seconds which is annoying.
