"Night in Edinburgh"
Was a lovely hotel, excellent location, very close to great dining options, and a brief walk to the Royal Mile. General lobby and public spaces a bit nicer than the rooms, an attribute typical of many European hotels. Good value for the price. I wanted to offer particular praise for the concierge working on Friday evening July 6. He was extraordinarily […] helpful, knowledgeable, and no request to great for him to handle. "Good location for train travel in Scotland"
I was happy with my stay, although the hotel was very busy with a major convention. I had trouble reaching the front desk several times due to a large number of people checking in and out. Overall, however, I was pleased with the friendly staff and the excellent breakfast each morning.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Lovely and convenient"
Great place to stay! Walk to the train station, the Royal Mile, the Edinburgh Castle, lots of great food within blocks on Thistle Street and on Rose. Food in hotel is very good too...service could not have been more friendly/helpful, booking online cheaper than at the front desk (we extended our stay.) very clean. Only complaint is wi if is only in […] the lobby. We had an IPad and could not hook up to the cable for laptops in the room...so had to check email etc in lobby. "Wonderful location !"
Excellent all very clean and organized staff very friendlyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was great the hotel beautiful but the noise in the street outside my window and the wedding celebrations went on past midnight. I couldn't sleep and then at 7am housekeeping starting knocking on the door. So as far as staying there again i would if i didn't need any sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"REALLY loved this hotel"
Great hotel. Great location. Really helpful staff (thanks Colin and Josh). Nice large room. Would definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Thin walls and lumpy bed"
Stayed two nights in two differents rooms. First night was fine despite thin walls. The second room had a very uncomfortable bed. The room is small but clean.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The George Hotel-Edinburgh"
I can't say enough good things about this hotel and the service. They were attentive to every detail and the concierge staff was excellent. The location was great and very close to some fine restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very convenient location to Princes St shops, Waverly Train station, Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and buses to Leith, Holyrood and even the Airport. Service by staff and cleanliness was of a high standard. Only thing I wished was the matress seemed rather used and uncomfortable. Nevertheless, a great choice for anyone to stay at.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel for business or leisure."
The hotel is located in the centre of the city. There are lots of bus stops outside the hotel that we did not actually use because everything is near by.There are shops, convenient stores and lots of places to eat within walking distance. The hotel and the room was clean. We had a very spacious room. The beds were comfortable. There was a safe in the […] room that was quite spacious. There was a kettle in the room you could use to make coffee and tea that was supplied for free. Also, every day we had two bottles of water, complimentary. During our stay the hotel had several weddings which did not bother us at all, we could not hear any noise or music in our room. The hotel was also used for conferences which again did not cause any noise. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Concierges wear kilts!"
Our stay at this hotel was overall quite nice, the staff were professional and friendly, and the hotel had very fancy names and labels on everything. It took us a little while to get there from the train station, but we found the room to be a clean and comfortable eco-conscious environment. We skipped breakfast because it was so expensive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the george hotel in edinburagh, very comfortable, warn and clean, and very well locateed in the center of the city, would definatly stay again and would definatly recommend it to friends.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The George Hotel - Fabulous"
The staff at The George Hotel was more than accommodating and friendly. The room was very clean and spacious. Just footsteps to great shopping, food and Edinburgh's historical attractions. I will definitely will be booking this hotel again when staying in Edinburgh.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was wonderful, the staff were very accomodating and the location was great. My only disappointment was that internet access was not included with the stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
You are right in the heart of Edinburgh. Great for being central to so many great sites, but not great for parking. There is no parking at the hotel, and the meters require that you return every 3 hours to pay another ten pounds or in US it's twenty dollars every 3 hours! It's best to use public transportation in the city, but the lack of parking prohibits […] it since you need to return every three hours. If you don't have a car, it's great. "Good location -but"
Everything was fine about the hotel location & staff except we looked over an alley where they were continually clearing out what sounded like empty bottle crates at all times, including 1.30am.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Middle of it all"
Great location. Clean comfortable quiet roomGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location, friendly staff with great service. Only comment would be they need to go around with a little tin of paint to cover the marks on the walls that happen with everyday wear and tear in a hotel. Me and my wife have said we will stay here next time we're in Edinburgh together.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
location good; restaurant (not used) looked poor; room cramped; poor value for money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Too many little points wrong to be worth the money"
This hotel is pricey unless you can get a great last minute deal. But compared to the price I was shocked at how things could be better. My room was tiny - the double bed barely fitted into it, and there was a bedside table on one side only. The bathroom, though, had quite a lot of wasted space. The window looked out over a blank wall and an ugly fire-escape. […] I don't think there was a mini-bar (didn't really worry me), nor was there a trouser press (this would been much more useful than an iron). The television had only about 7 or 8 channels (and no non-UK ones for foreign visitors) and 4 radio stations (Radio4, the leading UK station, not included). I'm told that they're going to improve their entertainment package at some point - but surely it should be better by now?! Free Wi-Fi is very limited and complicated - again, by now, free Wi-Fi should be standard in a hotel at this price. The room was up a few stairs and a wee way from the lift. Very little in the décor of the hotel reminds one of the restrained Georgian architectural elegance of Edinburgh New Town - corridors are low-ceilinged and the stair case is downright ugly. So could be far, far better Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location, good food, excellent service"
My trip was a last minute decision to go to Edinburgh and as I was on my own wanted something central and The George fitted the bill perfectly. Lots of places to eat, drink and shop on George Street. Dined in hotel 1 night and food/ was great and there was a singer there and he was fantastic.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great location poor parking facilities"
Second stay at this hotel in a great location. Close to all major tourist locations and great restaurants and bars. However if you are travelling by car the parking is costly and very limited it took us 1 1/2 hours one evening to find a location next to hotel there is a multi storey 10 mins away but not a place you would wish to leave your car overnight. […] The hotel caters well but is mainly full of foreign tourists on "highland tours" on transit as you would expect in a city hotel. The rooms are clean but are extremely hot and stuffy, there are no refridgerater facilities or mini bar either. Breakfast can also be a little bit hectic and queueing for tables certain times can happen. Overall a good experience but as with all major city hotels a little impersonal, however if you are looking for high end hotel in great location this could be the one for you. "George Street party central outside"
For price paid did not meet expectations. Room 306 small but adequate however due to lack of air conditioning it was like being in a sauna. Window up high so no view and limited opening. Room is on the front and noise from the street on a Saturday night prevents a peaceful sleep. Reception did provide a fan to try and help with the heat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A welcome relief"
I was dismayed at the hotel prices generally in Edinburgh, and started my stay in somewhere slightly cheaper but of considerably lesser quality. I moved to the George after my first night. It was a welcome relief. On arrival at the first hotel my heart sank; at the George it lifted hugely. The location is excellent (George St runs parallel to Princes […] St, one block over) and is ambience on entering is lovely. The rooms were lovely and inviting and the air conditioning welcome (although I gather it's not often 27 degrees in Edinburgh). I had business needs and Reception received emails, printed attachments and scanned documents without a fuss or charge. The breakfast was excellent, served quickly and of a high quality. I had stayed at a Principal Hayley hotel in Croydon that was so poor I'd given up on the brand. I booked the George without realising it was PH hotel; I'm pleased to say it has restored my faith in the brand. I recommend the hotel highly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Apart from car parking this is an excellent choice for a central Edinburgh hotel. Can't fault the room or facilities.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
A very pleasant stay. My only complaint would be that the otherwise very comfortable bedroom most definitely needed a chest of drawers, there being little in the way of drawer space for clothes.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel, minor detractions"
This was my second time staying at the George Hotel and I would definitely stay there again. The wifi wasn't working this time, which was kind of inconvenient, but otherwise everything was lovely.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Only 1 night but had fantastic time, hotel 10+ Edinburgh still great.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My wife and I had a very enjoyable stay in the hotel this month. Unfortunately I am disabled, not severely, but my walking is very restricted. We were allocated disabled room 355 which was almost outside my walking distance. The room was excellent but the bathroom was very disappointing. The basin would have done justice in a small caravan, there was […] no place to put any toiletries, furthermore the only shelf was away at the other side of the room, way out of arms reach. On a wet slippy floor this was unacceptable. The lighting over the basin was nonexistent, back lighting for shaving or ladies for makeup make life difficult. The staff were excellent and the ambiance of the hotel, extremely good. Parking for me was a treat having a blue badge. Yes we will stay with you again, with reservation regarding my comments Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel location is excellent. However, hotel room is very small, and also they charge £10/24hrs for wifi. ridiculous charge.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The George is a lovely hotel in the heart of Edinburgh. The room was nice if a long walk up & then down various staircases to the other side. The bed was a bit hard for a superior room - expected a newer mattress but we were only there for one night. Nice bathroom with good toiletries. Breakfast was ok but for a top hotel the ingredients tasted a bit […] cheap especially the fruit juices which were awful. However there was a huge choice and the room it was in was beautiful. "Lovely hotel in an excellent area"
I visited Edinburgh for the first time with a friend of mine. I found this hotel based and based on reviews, it was perfect based on its location and price. I was extremely surprised at the amazing quality this hotel offers given the price point. The hotel staff is excellent, tempus bar is lovely and a great option in the evening if you don't want to […] go too far afield. Location is amazing as well becasue it its a great point to start your trips every day. I would say this was one of the highlights on our trip. Coming back to a hotel that was clean and well appointed, located in a great neighbourhood that had all the comforts we needed and a REAL hairdryer, an iron and board in the room and windows that open. Really, one of the best hotel finds, would absolutely come back and stay here when in Edinburgh again for business or pleasure! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good size room in older section of the hotel"
We stayed one night at the George in April 2014 and on arriving in the evening we were able to leave our cases with reception without checking in while we went for dinner. There is a laoding bay right outside that can be used for dropping off cases before heading to the NCP on Elder Street, where they offer reduced parking. On returning to reception […] to check-in fully we were pleasantly surprised that our cases had already been taken to our room in the older part of the building. The room was clean and tidy, the bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet enough for our stay even with the window open with the sounds of the city coming in. Checkout was quick and efficient, we were also able to leave our cases with the concierge while we ran some errands around the city before collecting them. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel for exploring Edinburgh"
We haven't been away for some time due to past experiences of poor cleanliness but wanted to see the pandas at Edinburgh zoo. After much deliberation we decided on The George as it had good cleanliness ratings but comments about the staff - this wouldn't bother me. We travelled by train so came in to Waverley station. The George is less than ten minutes […] walk and really easy to find being basically two blocks away. Upon arrival we were met by a lady who was more than helpful, giving us information on the bus routes for the zoo the next day. Our room was in a great position - overlooking George Street; although just to mention that it gets busy on Friday nights so naturally is a bit noisy; this is the nature of a city centre hotel I guess. Although we stayed only three nights, I found that whilst the reception staff remained helpful, the concierge guys were a real mixed bag. We clearly weren't there to play golf and were not American so on occasion I felt a bit as though they were looking down their noses - this doesn't bother me, but thought it would be worth noting. The position is fantastic for exploring - bus tours by the Waverley Station or St Andrews Square both less than ten minutes walk, good restaurants nearby, easily able to explore all of the city pretty easily from here. Overall I would recommend this hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Edinburgh short stay"
Allowed us to check in 2 hours early and upgraded us to a superior room at extra cost. Unfussy lobby which was relaxing. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel central and near to shops and visitor attractions. Good breakfast with plenty of staff on hand. Had a great first time in this wonderful city. We will definitely go back.Genuine Expedia guest review
We couldn't fault our stay, great location, friendly staff, great breakfast, lovely room with very large bed, nice and clean. We were able to get wifi in our room for an hour every 3 hours. The Tempus restaurant next door was excellent for an evening meal, great food and service, we were also served breakfast here each morning which was really good […] food. We would recommend to anyone and would stay here again if we ever come back to visit Edinburgh. It is a lovely city and it was well worth the short break. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

This was a decent Hotel although it could certainly do with some refurbishment. The carpets were all marked and stained in fact they were disgusting. There was a lot of noise from adjoining rooms and outside so the soundproofing was not good.
