Barcelona’s Old Town, the Ciutat Vella takes in the Barri Gòtic and the world-famous promenade of Las Ramblas. Booked this hotel since it was recommended by a cruise line and read reviews. Glad I stayed. Convenient for walking challenged. Beautiful pools and rooftop view. Staff was very helpful with tourist info. Unbelievable!!! Hotel does seem to cater to business class. Breakfast was very pricey. Explore the streets. Bar is very nice. I would go back. In the elevator I asked people if they were happy with the hotel and would go back. Always got a yes. One lady was on her third stay. Do not worry about the high price meals. Starbucks and the restaurants on Santa Ana are worthwhile exploring. Living Barcelona restaurant makes a wonderful esparrecs bladers (asparagus appertizer). The attached church is recommened. Explore and experience!

This hotel is right smack in the middle of La Rambla yet when you go inside you would never know you were on one of the busiest streets in Barcelona. The building which was build in 1898 looks very gothic outside but has been renovated in a very modern yet classy, chic way. Beautiful hardwood floors, lots of marble and impeccably clean. The staff were extremely professional, fluent in English and quite helpful. Absolutely I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to experience the hustle & bustle of La Rambla but the quiet and comfort of a first class and somewhat extravagant hotel. It wasn't cheap but not overly costly as compared to some hotels. Very much worth every Euro.

Easy walk to everything you need to see on your first visit. Located directly on the Rambla and next to the Boqueria, which can make it a bit noisy if your room faces the street. Hotel is clean and luxurious, rooms small but not too small. Nice bathroom. Best feature is the roof top bar. EXCELLENT sangria and tapas.

Our stay at Hotel 1898 was a fantastic experience! We were impressed from the moment we stepped into this plushly and tastefully decorated lobby. Rich woods, comfy couches and helpful staff! And all this before we ever got to our rooms The location is awesome! Our ship arrived in port long before check-in time, so we left our luggage with the bellman and headed out to explore La Ramba. Whatever you are looking for is available there. As soon as you walk out the door you are immediately immersed in the heart of the city. Do not miss the outdoor market just a block or so down the street. The rooms were large by European standards and beautifully decorated. The beds were firm and comfy. Bathrooms excellently appointed. And do not miss the rooftop pool area and the spa pool in the basement. I would happily return to this hotel in a heartbeat!!!

This high quality hotel is perfectly located on the bustling La Rambla. We requested 2 quiet rooms and that is exactly what we got, including the air con which I usually find annoying. The room safe was large enough for the laptop. The wi fi was easy to use and was free throughout the hotel and also worked well on the roof terrace. There was a kettle(unusual for Spanish hotels) and an assortment of teabags and coffee etc. The only thing that I could be slightly critical of is the lack of a mirror over the dressing table. However, this wasn't a problem as I always take my own anyway. The highlight for us was undoubtedly the roof terrace! The drinks were very expensive but we thought worth every cent. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at Hotel 1898 for 3 days and had a wonderful time. It is right on the Rambla, but it is not too noisy. The hotel is clean and modern, with lovely decor. It isn't inexpensive, and the rooms are not large, but for a European resort, it is quite reasonable. There is a Starbucks next door, so you don't need the buffet breakfast, and there are many terrific and interesting restaurants nearby. Hotel 1898 is only a few minutes to the Barcelona Turist bus routes, and these are great for seeing the city. You don't get a view from many of the rooms, but if you want a hotel on the Rambla, it is great.

Hotel 1898 is a luxurious, beautiful hotel on La Rambla in Barcelona, easily located to see the sites on La Rambla or walk to the Gothic Quarter. Our concerns about noise on La Rambla were unfounded because all the public areas of the hotel are on the street side and the rooms in back. Our only complaint was, that after sleeping late one morning, there was no hot water in the shower. We heard another couple complaining about the same thing at check-out. But boy was I surprised - the hotel is an oasis in the midst of a very busy area, La Rambla, between Placa Catalunya and La Boqueria de San Josep. The lobby is beautiful and relaxing, with complimentary afternoon tea and cookies served every afternoon. The spa is fantastic - and the rooftop pool and bar, open till 10pm, offer beautiful views in all directions of the city and the surroundings mountains. Comfortable lounge chairs and sofas and a great, though a bit pricey, bar. What a delightful place to arrive to after our Mediterranean cruise. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
