"Very nice location, but..."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Apr 28, 2012
We chose to stay here after I realized I booked our resort for one less day than we were leaving (oops!), and our resort was booked for that last day. We decided to get something closer to the airport since we would be leaving the next day. We had been staying an hour away. It worked for one day. Overall, it was nice. The service was great, and the rooms were clean. We got the room for a great deal through hotels.com and it was a beautiful ocean view. However, there are these little bugs that can be seen a little during the day, but a LOT at night. They were crawling all over the sink and desk. It was pretty gross. Other than that there were no huge turn offs. The food is pricey. We had been staying at an all-inclusive so this was a little shock. We paid $70 for two appetizers, a burger, and simple ravioli. The access to the water (both pool and beach) was nice. There weren't many people there so the beach and pool weren't crowded, which was nice. The only places that have Wi-Fi are the pool and lobby.

The staff was friendly and made the experience that much more memorable. The beach is a short walking distance from the hotel. The only thing I did not like was that the water from the faucets seem like its sea water, it's salty! I felt like I was showering in the sea. I'm not sure if that's how water is in that area or if it's only in that hotel. Other than that I recommend this hotel, its comfortable and affordable ;)

"Pleasant stay at the Golden Bear Lodge in Cap Cana"Reviewed by Greg of "Bourbonnais, IL" on Feb 27, 2012
My wife and I just returned from a very pleasant week long stay in February, 2012, at the Golden Bear Lodge in Cap Cana. Our unit was very spacious, clean, and exceptionally well decorated. Even though our reservation indicated that breakfast was not included, we were informed at check-in that a buffet breakfast was included in the room rate. The staff was eager to please. On several occasions when the shuttle running among various locations at Cap Cana was running slowly, the staff volunteered to take us by golf cart to the golf course and the beach club. Nearby Punta Espada Golf Club is exceptional in every respect. We also used the nearby beautiful Caleton Beach Club where for a small daily fee you can enjoy the picturesque beach with chaise lounges, towels, fruit punch, and a daily skewer with fresh fruit.
"high quality units, quiet and relaxing setting."Reviewed by Ivan of "Los Angeles" on Feb 26, 2012
I must say this was a great hotel experience. The facilities were top-notch; the hotel staff was friendly and helpful; and there is a decent bar on-site. - all of this within a one minute walk to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. This is not an all-inclusive resort, which may be a turn off to some. It definitely caters to those who like to buy groceries and cook in the large room kitchens. If this isn't you, don't be discouraged. We found it easy to get food at the restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood. For example, there is a beach-front restaurant a short 3 minute walk away with some tasty and inexpensive lobster. The noise was totally non-existent. The quiet environment made it easy to enjoy our vacation. Only downside I recall - the wifi. The signal was non-existent on the room and weak on the balcony. Once we could connect, we experienced slow load times. Given that we were trying to get away, this wasn't so disappointing, but I know it may a deal-breaker for some. Overall, loved this place. Definitely would recommend staying here.

"Nice but the fire kept it from being great"
Overall it was good. We arrived the night after the fire, so the snack bar and swim up bar ( and spa and seaside restaurant plus half the pool) were closed. We were able to use the Elegance pool and that helped make up for it. Not many daily activities for kids which was a big let down for our 11 year old. Circus show was great. Food was the best we've […] had out of four total all-inclusives we have visited. The fire could not be planned for, not much the resort could do about that and we just made the best of it. Read more
"Majestic Colonial, Punta Cana -- Great Vacation"
A group of 8 of us traveled from Montana to Punta Cana for 10 nights the first week in March, 2012 to the Majestic Colonial. We had a wonderful vacation. Each couple had a room in a different area of the resort, no one had many problems (other than a key issue with one couple) with their room or location of their room. The food is good, remember this […] is an all inclusive -so it's not 5 star, but we certainly didn't go hungry. No one got sick. The beach is beautiful, and we never had any problems getting enough lounge chairs on the beach for all of us. (the pool is hard to find chairs unless you are up with the sun to reserve them... we prefered the beach, so it wasn't an issue). Denny ran back and forth to the bar and beach for us, our alcholol level never dipped too low! It does pay to tip the staff, your service will be better. Leo, in the main lobby bar, learned what we drank pretty quickly and had our order started as we walked up to the bar. -- We would return to this resort. That's the best recommendation any of us could make! Read more
"My experience"
It was a very nice experience. Everybody was very kind and always happy. Minimini was one of the presenter at the hotel and he made the experience very satisfying. I will come back as soon as I get a break from work. This hotel wealth the money.
"Bad food - 3 of 4 sick"
Don't go. The food is bad and unclean.
"Nice Resort, But...."
The resort itself was quite comfortable and the staff was generally warm and friendly. When we were there for a week over the New Year holiday nearly all of our party of 13 (and a number of other families that we talked with) had problems with diarrhea during the stay. Would not recommend it to our friends for this reason alone.

"Majestic Colonial - salty food on a gorgeous beach"
Upon check-in we were greeted by Majestic cocktails which were yummy. Check in wasn't a problem although they did have my last name spelled incorrectly and they insisted I print out my hotels.com receipt by using their $5/30 minutes computer lab. No thanks. Our room was beautiful and close to the beach. The bathroom had NO door as in, if I wanted to […] take a bath, my sister could see me from anywhere in the room. Weird. Also, in case you had to go #2, the entire room can hear you. So either turn up the TV super loud, or ask your roommate to leave the room should you need to use the facilities. It was a beautiful room though and the bed was comfy and always clean. The pool was great with a lot of entertainment for guests but it's a family resort and they still allowed women to go topless and had beer chugging contests. Not that either of those bother me but I can see where some parents may not like that around their kids. The beach was incredible. Huts were readily available as were beach chairs and towels. Just don't lose your towel or you'll have to pay $20. There was ONE waiter for the entire beach so we waited 30+ minutes for our drinks. You also didn't have the option to order food to the beach but the restaurant was very close. Now the food - apparently the only seasoning they know is salt. Everything was salty or covered in oil so by the end of the week, my bottom lip was literally cut up from all the salt intake and I’m pretty sure I’m still bloated. They did have decent paninis and the omelet station was also good and was available every morning for breakfast. The Supreme has a great bread selection and a lot of fresh fruit but not much else although one day they had a cream of broccoli soup that was good… albeit salty. This was the favorite for everyone after the 1st night. The “Mexican” restaurant was not good. I ate nachos which consisted of stale chips and cold cheese. The fajitas were odd and not like anything I’ve ever had. People waited forever for cevi Read more
"Best Hotel in Punta Cana"
I've been to many resorts in my 6 years of coming to the Dominican Republic. This was my second time coming to Majestic Colonial since it opened 6 years ago. The food was better than most Resorts although i think that most of the dishes are the same no matter where you go in Punta Cana. However there were a couple of dishes that did stand out. The friendliness […] of the staff was great and much needed as my entire stay was rained out due to Hurricane Irene. The grounds were well kept as you very rarely saw trash on the ground. The entertainment at night...well....after being in Punta Cana as many times as I have and the different resorts, all of the shows are literally the same. They had a Micheal Jackson show...same show from 6 years ago...magic show (same show and people I saw from another resort a year ago) but it was still very entertaining. Check in and Check out was with no hassles. Overall a very relaxing environment. Definitely a resort of choice. Read more

"Majestic Colonial: All-inclusive food, bed quality"
The nicer restaurants had decent food quality, but the preparation of the food needs improvement. The beds were really hard, and there was no mattress pad at all. A soft mattress pad would have made our stay much more comfortable.
"Only a few minor complaints!"
All things considered (including the perfect beaches and the price), this is a great buy. We had a few gripes: our room wasn't ready until 5pm for check-in, some of the food was yucky (but there was so much else to choose from, you could always find something good!), only one of our sinks worked in the room, and I do not believe that they have motion […] detectors to tell if you're in the room b/c they walked in while I was showering and also knocked an hour later when both my husband and I were in there (moving around), you can't get out in the water very far b/c speed boats come zooming buy just beyond the bouys. The good stuff: we found the free alcohol adequate (I had read some reviews where people complained that it was awful tasting--not true), the beach was lovely, the pool was a refreshing change from sand and salt water, food was always available somewhere, the mini fridge was restocked daily with water (I can't recall if beer was in there too) and soda, the rooms truly felt majestic, maid service was generally swift and they keep the doors ajar so you feel confident they aren't going through your things, secure safe in the room! Imagine, all the lobster you can eat! It was delicious and never-ending. So, our gripes are minor compared to the good stuff! Read more
"majestic colonial in punta cana!! the best place!!"
i have been to this part of the world many times, but this was myy 1st tme 2 dominican republic, wow!! it was a great hotel in a wonderful local!! the hotel is beautiful, the designers-architecs-landscap design crews all know how to make a resort standout, one could take pictures and even if no one is in the picture it is pretty!! add people and some […] background and u have memories via pictures and ones in your mind that will be with u forever!!! besides those things there is the food, which was just fantastic, and let me tell u, for dinner, this resort can give any chocolate company a run for its money!!! my 1st night i had deserts and drinks, the desserts were off the chain!!! the beach was perfect, this resorts beach was a snorkler's joy!! i went down around the corner and boogie boarded 50 feet or so where the waves were great, our beach had small reef like area's that had beautiful fish and and juveniles of all kinds of fish n other aquatic creatures!! the resort included so much!!! the spa was not included but was sooo worth it!! this resort had the biggest pool so far!!! u could swim from the beach area in the pool to just shy of the lobby!!! it was like 1/2 mile at least, or at least with all the area's it was the big ! plus 2 jacuzzi's n swim bar and at least3 other bars right next to the pool!!! there was food available around 22 hours each day!! if u want a beach or pool view, u have to get into a roomm beginning with 2 or 3!!! the second number of the room tells u what floor u are on, now the last two #'s are telling if u are closer to beach or lobby/restaurants (main ones), the higher the last two #'s the closer to the beach. we stayed in the middle, and on middle floor!!! we had room in the 22 hundred area, it was great, pool view and beach down to the left! ADVICE: do not take a room with 11,12,13 as the 1st two digits and ending with numbers lower then 35, because unless u want no real view, or dont care for a view, those are the rooms with no real go Read more

"majestic colonial at punta cana"
we just recently stayed at majestic in 01/2011 with my husband and 16mo daughter. everything was great, from room service to pool and the beach area. unfortunetly we could not visit their French restaurant bc they did not allow kids there (that should change). otherwise vacation was perfect!
We had a great time. I would definitely go back and stay at this hotel. Grounds were very clean and well kept. Food was good. No lines or waiting for anything. Beach and the ocean were wonderful. Shows and entertainments were excellent
"Nice Hotel - food almost as good"
The hotel has a nice beach and pool area, but for some reason chairs were hard to come by so occasionaly you would need ask the help to bring ya a chair from the beach to the pool. Food was mostly good except for the pancakes. They should do a better job with them. Rest of the food and restaurants were good. Overall good hotel experience.

"Not good"
Beds were low and not comfortable. There is no door for the bathroom area. Very Strange. The toilet "room" was a lot, yes a lot, smaller than a stall at a restaurant. The food was average at best. The drinks were weak, we have to order doubles or triples in order to have them taste like actual drinks. The place is Cancun East. Not relaxing at all. Also, […] the place is at least a half hour away from the airport which translates to a $40 cab ride. Read more
"Amazing Honeymoon !"
The Suite was way more then we expected but beyond just the room the servers and animation team should all be awarded for there charisma hospitality and attentivness. My husband and I were known by name and when we walked up to any bar or towards any table our drinks of preference were allready waiting they are very attentive to detail and do there […] job tremendously well. I work in the Hospitality industry my self and I must say this may be the best crowd ive came upon. There is only one thing I want to address which is that the front desk is extremely dry no sence of humor and seem to have no motivation I feel thats where the majic at majestic should start. Besides that once you step foot down those steps of the lobby into the resort world the wokers are great at what they do and I also want to congradulate there management team because this def means you are doing your job on adequate training!! Team work is key anywhere and those animation guys are all over that!!! Our BEST to SAMMY he is hilarious!!!!!! Read more

"Very good but not great"
The resort is basically as advertised on the various review sites--good but not really great. Airport transfer using Dominican Airport Transfers was great--our flight was late and they waited. Painless and completely reliable. Check in was a pain because apparently hotels.com had actually booked the room through another site, so it took about 30 minutes […] to untangle why we had no confirmation voucher from that site. Once we were checked in, it was overall a very good experience. The beach, pool, public areas and spa are all very nice. Rooms had individual A/C units, were very clean and generally very good. Food was overall good but not great (see some specifics below). Restaurant placement and eating times were convenient and there were plenty of bars whenever you wanted something to drink. I would definitely recommend this to those looking for a good vacation but it is not "top of the line" and you should not expect it to be for the price. On the Internet, unless you desperately need continuous connectivity, a laptop owner is probably better off to go to the lobby once or twice a day and buy one hour of wireless rather than pay for in-room wired. Luckily for us, the wired port didnt work in our room. I saved about 50% using the wireless because the rates are so reasonable for an hour. The nightly shows were generally fun and worth seeing, even if it did get a little warm in the seating area. Some specific things the resort could do to improve: Mattresses - the mattresses were very low grade and not very comfortable. Infrastructure Maintenance - the public areas could use a little more attention to things like paint, chip and crack repair, etc. Everything was clean but a few things (and only a few) were showing pretty serious wear. Drinks - most drinks were made with the cheapest mixers possible--syrupy sweet off-brand fake juices and flavors. A screwdriver, for example, should be made with orange juice, not orange colored orange flavored syrup. Cranberry a Read more

"Majestic Colonial Punta Cana"
The hotel staff was very accomodating, friendly and helpful, visitors should be aware that many speak limited English, but will comprehend American Span-glish. Food was plentiful, tasty and good. Guests should be aware not to keep the balcony door open or the air conditioning shuts off. The room was clean and comfortable with beverages replenished daily. It […] was too windy our first few days to venture out ocean kayaking or sailing, but the winds died down mid-week and we were able to go. Excellent beach, pool is only 3'9", so it is okay for cooling off, deck chairs are claimed early in the day, bars and restaurants provided variety. French and Hibatchi tables in the Japanese restaurants do require reservations; I suggest that you make them upon arrival as they fill up quickly. Tour companies are available and will pick you up and drop you off at the front entrance. We enjoyed Mike's Dominican Adventure where we wandered through the local towns, markets and visited a school; then we went snorkeling with the Sharks, Stingrays and in the Coral Reef with VIP Tours. Transportation between the airport and hotel is easy and readily available. Taxis, vans, buses all average about the same price and the tour companies stationed at the hotel will accomodate you upon request. Read more
"Great all inclusive!"
Everything was better than expected. Well worth the stay, and then some!

Beautiful hotel; good service and great entertainment. Food is ok although could improve if salt level is reduced. Restaurants which require reservation offer better service and food. In general, had a great vacation.
"We liked it"
Nice people, pretty beach, funny shows , nice settings, it was our second time there. Only two things we didn't like about this hotel . There is no Wifi in your room so you have to buy it and the cable to connect is very short,so you can't enjoy the balcony or show the hotel thru skype to your friends. Second - the food is very good except for the mexican […] restaurant and there are no fresh juices anywhere on the property. Food was great. Rooms were very nice. Front desk was very slow and room doors were in slight disrepair. Room keys frequently quit working.
"Only a 5 star at off season low prices"
The resort is lovely, well landscaped and well maintained and our rooms were spacious. The beach is probably the nicest of all the resorts in the area. However the food was very mediocre and the service very spotty. I will give them high marks for the fact that no one got sick and we were able to eat salads and drink the water in the restaurants, but […] the food was often cold, not even warm and often bland and unappetizing. My kids said the food at their summer camp was better. No problem keeping a flat stomach for bathing suits as you had to work at finding something good to eat. Housekeeping had to be phoned every day because they would alway forget to leave enough towels. They even took our bathrobes one day. Not a big fan of the completely open concept bathroom. It is efficient, but other than a partial door to the extremely small toilet compartment (must be thin), there is no privacy and you can't use the bathroom in the middle of the night without disturbing the other person unless you don't put on any lights. Poor service in the restaurants. Everyone is very happy and polite but you must wait an excessively long time for anything no matter how small the request. Don't pay premium prices to stay here over the Christmas holidays - you can't come close to getting your money's worth unless you want to drink all day. Also, all the power goes off if one person leaves the room - no lights, air conditioning etc. unless you open and close the door to trick the system. We had to reset the clock every night before going to bed. Read more

Vale a pena! Recomendo!!! Read more
Read more
