My wife and I stayed six nights. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in arranging both tours and dinner reservations. The free shuttle is convenient for getting into town. I do not recommend walking as the road is very narrow. Taxi fare from town was E 15. The room with the balcony and sea view is certainly worth it.

We went here for our honeymoon. We paid the extra money for a room with balcony, which is definitely recommended. But, when we arrived, our floor was dirty and there were hairs in the bathtub. When asked for the maids to revisit the room, the maid argued with my wife and even called the desk to tell them she wasn't going to clean the room. She eventually […] was made to do so. THe conceirge was also not very helpful in answering our questions when needed. Other than that, the restaurant staff, the restaurant, and pool area were superb. It really saved our stay there. This hotel is nice and has a lot of good features such as the large swimming pool and pool bar area and the nice dining room. The view is nice with an ocean front room. The staff is so-so and could be a little more helpful. The one main drawback is that the hotel is far up the cliffs away from the center of town so if you do not have a rental car it […] is difficult to get into town and back. There is a shuttle that runs throughout the day free of charge with stay at the hotel but the timing is sometimes off and we missed two shuttles. My family of five had an excellent stay at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio. The staff was courteous and the facilities very clean. Fantastic views of the bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and Sorrento. Nice location, nice pool, nice view, that's where it ends. Terrible food, terrible staff, our room had a view however because the a/c wasn't working we had to keep the drapes pulled so there went the view! The hotel staff did not care was very unhelpful. It was just a terrible experience to the end of a great vacation. If you take the hotel bus to town […] bring a fan they don't run the a/c in the bus until it's on the road. You can't open a window either. Bring tissues if you think you will need them the hotel does not supple them. Pool closes a 6 so swim early, the area is nice. The best thing this hotel has going for it is its location to town and the view from outside. Not all rooms have a view. Our friends a view of a cement wall. It is a beautiful hotel. It was situated in a great location. They needed ice machines and some type of small food items to buy, instead of having to go to the restaurant all of the time. The bar area should of sold snacks, appetizers etc.,

Great breakfast buffet, beautiful views. The only complaint is that the beds were a little uncomfortable and you have to take the shuttle to get to town. The shuttle doesn't run all that often, about every 2 hours. Not very convenient. The pool is huge and fun, but closes at 6pm, no idea why.

This is a beautiful hotel with a great view of the Sorrento bay. We spent two nights here in May 2012 and very much enjoyed our stay. The first night, we ate in the hotel restaurant and while the food was good, it wasn't worth 30 Euro. The wait staff is attired in tuxedos and it was very formal. Breakfast is included with the room and in consisted of […] fruits, ham, cheese, rolls, juice, eggs, bacon, yogurt, coffee... It was very good. The hotel provides a shuttle bus downtown. It runs throughout the day and the last pick up downtown is around 23:00. The shuttle is free for hotel guests. The hotel has a lovely pool, although the water was pretty cold. The basics--the hotel is very nice, the front desk staff spoke English and were very helpful. With the free shuttle service and a great view, I would very much recommend this hotel. Read more

Don't reserve a room here unless it's one with a terrace and a sea view. It's well worth the additional cost. The pool is nice but it closes at 6 PM. Contrary to what the photos look like, the jacuzzi area in the pool isn't a hot tub, it's just a place inside the pool where you can sit down, the water in the jacuzzi is the same temperature as the rest […] of the pool. The pool has a nice eating area with waiters. The wifi connection in the room didn't work for me all the time for some reason, but it was flawless in the lobby area. The free shuttle bus to Sorrento is extremely easy and convenient. They give you a schedule, the bus takes you in from the hotel and drives you back practically on the hour whenever you want. We rented a car and drove to Positano, which was about a half hour away. Sorrento is a nice city though, very touristy but enjoyable to walk around. Read more

Best feature is for those who drive because they have free parking and a free bus into downtown Sorrento which is very difficult to drive into and park. Has a pool etc. but located far from town and the pictures do not truly represent the hotel. The shuttle drops you to the edge of town rather than the centre. More a tour bus location where the distance, service etc. does not matter at the end of the day. Very disappointing, has the 4 star basics, but poor service!

Friends and I stayed at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio for our trip to Pompeii. The hotel wasn't quite close to an area with lots of restaurant choices and as we had arrived later in the day our only real choice for dinner was at the hotel. Shame that simple details really let the hotel down. Main gripe was breakfast. Terrible, we stayed in 3 hotels during our time in Italy and by far and away the Vesuvio breakfast was the worst. It is pretty disgracful and we ended up eating there only once during our stay. This was my second stay at this hotel having been 6 years previously. All the staff we encountered were very helpful and welcoming. The hotel is a typical "Italian" 4* with a fantastic swimming pool and pool area. Always plenty of sunbeds available towels were free and provided in your rooms on arrival. The views are wonderful as long as it wasn't raining. […] The free shuttle bus into town was very punctual and there was only one occasion when we were unable to use it due to it being full. The weather had been horrendous and everyone seemed to have the same idea about wanting to go into town. It only took about 5 to 10 minutes which was preferable to getting a taxi which cost 19-20 Euros! The public service bus stop is right outside the hotel which was very convenient if you wanted to travel along the Amalfi coast. There was plenty of choice at breakfast with cereal, toast, fresh fruit and tinned fruit, yoghurts, pastries, ham, cheese and scrambled eggs etc. The views from the restaurant at breakfast were lovely. Hotel was pleasant but not outstanding. Felt like we were 2nd class guests compared to those who had book all inclusive with tour operator. Pool very good. Food- breakfast boring and the same every day, very bland... tinned fruit in Italy a crime!

Mixed. Loved the location and the glorious views. Excellent amount of space in public rooms. Great pool and terraces. Good shuttle bus into town. Rooms were big enough and spotless and ours had views over the bay - air conditioning worked - good showers. Maids servicing the rooms delightful.... However, by far the worst elements, and these were significant […] disappointments, were the staff and catering. The other staff seemed to lack motivation to do provide a good service - somehow 'unItalian'. As we arrived late afternoon on the first day, we chose to have dinner in the restaurant. We thought it was a poor buffet with barbecue and at #not disclosed# 30Euro each was very over priced. Waiting staff appeared to be uninterested and generally unsmiling. Normally we tip. We did not here. We ate elsewhere every night thereafter. Public rooms could have done with having a bit more life, eg the bar is huge and we felt it needed something else, eg discrete muzac. Breakfast was generally well below 4 star standard - choices of tinned fruit, some pastries etc #and scrambled eggs#. Push button coffee machine was v disappointing. Again, we thought staff did not look after us. This let the whole place down very badly. We learnt since booking that it caters for All Inclusive holidays. Beautiful location and fantastic views. The hotel is imposing with a good regular shuttle service to Sorrento. The pillows are uncomfortable but the rooms are clean and spacious. Sea view rooms with balcony have spectacular views. Breakfast is basic and disappointing . We choose to eat main means in the many excellent local restaurants.

We checked in just in time for dinner, which was a buffet arrangement and to say the least dreadful. The food looked as though it was a collection of the last three days left overs, not much on offer and dried out and totally un appealing. Disorganised service in the dining room left people unaware that there was BBQ available. We had decided after dinner that night that we would be checking out the next morning and this was reinforced by the experience at breakfast. Breakfast should have ended at 10AM, we arrived at 9.50 AM and most of the breakfast had been cleared on seeing ourselves and another couple arrive the staff continued to hurriedly clear all the food ! We had booked three nights on-line but stayed just the one. We moved to a far superior 5* Hotel which was the only hotel in sorrento with availability not below a four star rating. This mini break actually ended up costing us three times more than originally planned because of the misleading description and pictures of the hotel we booked with expedia. Read more

Overall a good hotel to stay at. Room was clean and a large size with a decent bathroom. Ours had a nice balcony looking out over the bay of Naples with a view of Mt Vesuvius. The breakfast had a good selection of fruits, cereals, meat, cheese and various other things. Although the hotel is about a 15-20 minute walk from the town centre they run a regular […] bus service for guests. The hotel has a nice large pool with plenty of sun loungers around it and some shaded gardens to sit in if you prefer. Only gripe about our stay was the price of the buffet lunch at the pool. Our room was very spacious and clean. The view was amazingly beautiful. Although we did not have a balcony, the large windows opened and you could enjoy the view and fresh air. The hotel staff were very polite and professional. They were very accomodating. The garden was lovely. The food was quite good for dinner but not as good as some of the restaurants in town. Continental breakfast was included. The location is a bit out of the way but the hotel offers a free shuttle to the heart of the historic centre. You are able to walk, however the road is quite narrow and twisty with no sidewalk and a fair amount of traffic. There was a section with no streetlights. We stayed here for 2 nights recently in a sea view room with a balcony. We had gorgeous views over to Mount Vesuvio and the Bay of Naples, and Sorrento wasn't too far away. A complimentary shuttle bus runs regularly into Sorrento, which is about 10 minutes away. This was an excellent service and the bus was always punctual and even ran when there were […] few guests in the hotel. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but had breakfast every morning, which was continental and with scrambled eggs, cereal etc. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool which, although we didn't use due to the temperature, has beautiful views over the sea. There is also a small gym. The staff were friendly and let us check in early, which was very much appreciated after a long drive. We enjoyed our stay here and would happily stay again in the future. The hotel was well maintained and really good value for the location. It was a little bit inconvenient having to fit plans around the times of the buses to and from Sorrento especially given the big gap in service in the early afternoon, but the amazing view from the terrace bar was good compensation for the hotel's location. It's a shame the kitchen closes at 9 as that meant there weren't really any options for food when we arrived from our flight. A selection of snacks would have been welcome in the absence of a later sitting. The only negative comments were the en suite bathroom which didn't smell great (seemed to be some problem with the drains) and the mini bar fridge which wasn't cold. Sorrento is simply beautiful. Overall impression of the hotel was very good .POSITIVES - very clean, spacious rooms, large swimming pool and surrounding areas, free shuttle bus into the town, NEGATIVES - breakfast limited choice, times of shuttle bus. Shuttle bus times could be limiting ie. 1st bus in the morning left at 9am and last one at night came at 11.15pm - taxi to town cost approx 20 euros. Recommend taking the coach from Naples airport to Sorrento town centre - cost 10 euros. We got quotes of 150 euros for taxi...! Very easy to take the train to Pompeii and Vesuvius - approx 30 mins and 4 euros plus 11 euros entrance fee to Pompeii. Best pizza place in the town is Da Francos in the high street. stay at this hotel if you want a good, big room that's surprisingly quiet for a family hotel (i.e we weren't woken up every day by noisy neighbours, screaming kids etc!). We book this on a last minute for our short break (4 days in August). It was exactly what we were looking for: lovely city, option for little trips outside Sorrento and also lounging around the pool in the afternoon/evening. Although the hotel is situated roughly a 20 minute walk from sorrento, it has a free shuttle bus which was brilliant and saves a fortune on taxis. Big rooms, worth paying extra for sea view, fantastic staff and wonderful big pool area where there was never a tussle for a sun lounger. The Hotel was really great, nothing to complain about that I can think of. Lovely view from or room over the bay, but we didn't pay for the sea view rooms. We traveled around in Italy for 2 weeks and this hotel was the only one with good personnel, very friendly and helpful.
