Best Western City Sheridan - Cairns

The location is about a 15 minute walk from the Esplanade (if you don't have your own car). The room was plain and very dated. There was only a sheer shade covering the sliding door (people could see in if they wanted to). I'm glad I only stayed one night. One good thing is that this hotel offered free wi-fi, which is hard to come by in Cairns.

Room was large (deluxe) but bed was not particularly comfortable. Room was on ground floor with minimal security. Had a jacuzzi immediately next to the bed which we didn't use. This was the worst hotel that I ever stayed in. My boyfriend and I were only going to be in Cairns for one day so we figured we didn't need to spend a substancial amount of money on a room. The room was what you would expect for a low budget motel room. The air conditioner did NOT cool the room and the bed was very uncomfortable. The bathroom was full of mildew and we didn't even want to step on the tiles in the shower barefoot. The room was ok. We liked the internet and the tv service. Tiny bathroom. Dumpsters on 1st floor right about our room..the smells up the stairs were awful! There was a large gap under the door, had lots of bugs crawling in at night. A/C was loud. Found lots of hotels closer to town that offered less expensive rooms.

This wasn't on the waterfront, but it was inexpensive and had everything I needed. Had no problem with the walk to the Pier for my trip to the reef. An average hotel but it lacks any kind of proper soundproofing. Front door has gaps big enough to make it sound like you are sleeping outside and to let in plenty of tropical "creatures". At least 3 giant cockroaches in the bathroom on different uses. Dont' fall for the "newly renovated" lure. New, nice tile on the floor but that's about it!

We had a balcony that faced the main road. It was pretty quite. I thought that since we would be on the main street, it would be noisier. We had got the breakfast package for an extra charge. Not the best location in town, but you can walk to every interesting place in town in 15-20 minutes, or take the one of the many busses stopping close by. I would not hesitate to use it again if needed to stay in Cairn for a few days, but it’s not a holiday resort. Minus: No elevators.

We stayed 4 days at the Best Western City Sharidan and enjoyed the comfort of the rooms and the polite staff. They were very helpful with booking trips and giving advice how to get around. The location is a little off of the main tourist district but that was also the reason why it was quiet at night. 15min to the Esplanade is easy to walk. Down south […] on Sheridan Street are plenty of restaurants, a fruit market and a mall. The only negative thing was that the WIFI signal in the rooms on the second floor is very weak and had no transmitting bandwidth at all and the condition at the pool was not better. Both the staff at the hotel reception were very good and made our stay enjoyable at the hotel. All other basic things were good and functioning well. The hotel is also closeby to the main lagoon area. Flipside - no lifts for the rooms up the stairs so we had to carry our luggage through the stairs.

We did have a couple of problems and found the hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. However, we were left using a standard lamp in our bathroom for the second of the holiday week waiting for the light bulb to be changed, which probably wasn't the safest thing to do in a damp steamy room. Also needed to ask for milk to be topped up and cutlery […] etc at breakfast on a few occasions, but like I said the staff were very pleasant and sorted stuff out. As our booking was an upgrade to the Deluxe Room, i was very disappointed with the small size of the room, i have never had to place one foot in the shower to be able sit on the toilet. The Ranch slider to the deck had failed rollers so you needed to be strong to open the door, just sliding on the metal frame, no wonder the lock did not work! Our stay was ok in the main. When we asked for more blankets and to have someone check Austar on our tv, we got service on the third request. We book a tour which was advertised with free drink when tour book through hotel, however, we had to ask for our vouchers. We were kept awake for long periods on our first night due to excessive noise from other […] patrons. The outdoor eating area was run down and needed maintenance, especially the fences and gardens. We had a meal in the restaurant on our last night and found the food to be very nice, however, flowers had been left on tables for a week and most of the flowers were dead. Good budget motel not far away from the esplanade and shopping centre. 10 mins walking distance to everywhere. Nice small pool and a decent inhouse restaurant. Good for 2 night stay. The bed was comfy and had a good nights sleep. Good value for money.
