"Holiday Inn Barnsley"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 29, 2013
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Rooms a bit small but clean and highly functional. Big bonus is access to excellent gym next door. Can be busy near the holiday season as they have a lot of holiday/office parties, but the noise level from the revellers has not been too bad!
"Wonderful stay"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Jan 5, 2013
We had a wonderful time at Staden Grange. The atmosphere is relaxing with excellent hosts and terrific breakfast options that include a local flair (e.g., the oatcake). The rooms had everything we needed and then some, including a tea kettle, slippers, etc. You'll likely need a car or be willing to walk a mile or so into Buxton to stay here, but otherwise, we absolutely loved our stay.

The hotel is very nice but to get to it on foot from the town involves a dangerous dash across a busy street without traffic signals.
"HUDDERSFIELD IN OCTOBER"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Nov 4, 2012
Minor problem end of Summer Time. The hotel has no staff on duty after the pub closes until 6 AM. For some reason the heating system tripped at 2 AM and room temperature dropped to 45F. No problems other nights.
"True, cosy B&B!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Oct 3, 2012
We were traveling with our 13 month old daughter and I forgot to reserve a crib but our hosts were very accomodating and even helped us move to a bigger room that was available but not yet cleaned up. Janet was so affectionate with our daughter and had a lovely high chair set up for her at breakfast with baby plates and utensils, etc. The inn is literally 14th century so noises travel A LOT but overall it was quiet and peaceful. It's right in the middle of Castleton, a stunningly beautiful village with 6 pubs and lots of great shops.

"Really good."
The room we had was very clean and comfortable with an exceptional view over the peace gardens. We used the spa and were very impressed with the facilities. The breakfast was excellent, so much choice and perfectly cooked. However in our opinion one of the best things about the hotel is its amazing staff, The concierge is a complete star as is the gentleman […] who showed us to our breakfast table. The reception staff and bar staff are friendly and attentive as are the cleaning staff. We would not hesitate to reccomend the hotel to anyone. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Lovely Hotel - Good Value"
Right in the heart of Sheffield city the only real issue is parking. The nearest NCP changes £24 for a day although thehotel scan your token and that drops to £6.50Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Hotel but staff attitudes vary"
Overall, it's a good hotel with a very nice pool. The house keeping staff are very friendly and nice. However, the front desk ignored my request at night and when I asked again the next day, the receptionist simply said she didn't know who was taking my call the previous night. I have to say they were not so friendly at all, and showed their arrogancy […] in some way. I stayed in at least10 different hotels in Sheffield and never felt so bad and ignored. Grat location right in the heart of sheffield. Nice Champagne bar. The staff were very friendly. My only dissapointment was that the spa didn't have a jacuzzi, but it has several steam rooms and a sauna.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Mercure St Paul in Sheffield;"
A superb hotel which proved to be good value for money in the centre of Sheffield. Excellent service and a very good breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
When I arrived at the hotel it was raining and we were very wet so we needed to go to our room to dry off as it happened the floor our room was on seemed to have conference facilities just as the lift door opened staff where there taking chairs through using very foul four letter words to each other which I found offensive.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Mercure hotel in sheffield"
Hotel is in a lovely location and the staff are friendly and professional the only down side was how uncomfortable the bed was, this was the second time i stayed and i was hoping the first time was just bad look but i got a different room on a different floor and couldnt sleep all night, i got bad siatica after my stay there so unless the beds change […] i wont be going back there, which is a shame because everything else was perfect. "refusal of my special request"
I was dissapointed that the hotel refused to heat up an airline type meal for me which I wanted for dietry requirements. This was refused citing health and safety. When I have stayed at other major chains such as the Marriott or the Hilton this has always been done with a smile. I would therefore avoid Mercure if this is of concern to you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel for New Years stay"
Lovely hotel with good pool and spa facilities, the room was very large and comfortable and we had a great stay over New Years. The champagne bar was a good place to start and end the evening! I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Sheffield and it's city centre location makes it convenient to get about.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"St Pauls in Sheffield - close to theatres and bars"
Excellent location the only downside is the lack of parking. Expensive but secure parking available nearby. Didn't use the restaurant as there are many bar/restaurants nearby. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Sheffield Mercure"
An above average hotel in a fantastic location right in the heart of everything. The hotel is well presented and the rooms are large and spacious. Reception is very good and it is hard to beat this hotel. The one drawback i would say however is that it is somewhat expensive per night for what it is.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

This hotel is very convenient for the centre of Sheffield. The interior of the hotel looks dated now, and could do with refurbishment, but was fine for a short stay. There were a couple of wedding parties the weekend we stayed, and the restaurant was short staffed when we went down for breakfast on Sunday morning. We had to ask 3 times for hot milk […] with our coffee. Clearly the management were aware of the isssue, as there was a sign stuck on the mirror in the lift warning that the restaurant woyld be busy between 9.30 and 11.30 and if guests would like a quiet breakfast they should arrive before 9.30!! "Hotel in City Centre"
We arrived very late at the hotel after attending a wedding, the check in was easy, our room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast the next morning was very nice. The check out was slow as everyone checked out at the same time. Unfortunately the bar staff on the evening were very rude, not only to myself but to other people staying in the hotel, […] and could do with some customer service training, especially considering the price of the hotel and drinks! I would recommend this hotel, however you can stay in other nice Sheffield City Centre hotels cheaper. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Excellent central location, I was under the impression that breakfast was included within the rate at time of booking but it turns out it wasn't, this was a little disappointing. But the hotel and services are excellent, will stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Paying £4 for a non-existent WIFI service"
Some hotel chains still seem to be convinced that the formal courtesy created through intensive staff training can mitigate lack of real job satisfaction & create the illusion of genuine hospitality. Higher salaries, profit sharing, involvement in decision making, greater trust in staff , etc might obtain better results. It is also frustrating that […] whilst so many three-star hotels are all inclusive, this hotel still feels it necessary to add charges wherever possible (breakfast, TV, internet) & in the case of the WIFI ‘service’ charge, without actually making the system function (or even refunding the amount). Lastly, it would be good if Mercure hotels in general at least adopted the same conditions in each property (the following day, the Mercure hotel in Hull offered WIFI free of charge). RE cleanliness, the rubber mat folded on the rail above the bath tub had a used bar of soap & some pubic hairs attached (once again perhaps better pay &/or less rooms to clean per person, might improve attention to detail). As it stands, the word ‘hospitality’ substantially comes down to a question of sales rhetoric. The hotel’s position is excellent, but that’s about all you can say. "Not suitable if you want to sleep comfortably."
The hotel has a very nice architechture. I was put in very nice and clean room but as soon as I laid on the matress it was like sleeping on the bed box since the sprints were completely worn. My body was doing a U shape (no exageration) in that matress and I had a neckache as a consequence. Nobody could sleep in that matress. I asked to be moved and […] a girl came and started fighting over the phone with the girl at the reception about who should come to fix the problem since both of them had to go home soon. I had to go to the reception and ask for a solution since nobody came. I was moved to a room that stunk to tobacco and had recent drink stains in the sofas. The shower head had soap stains and the tiles had mold. Three minuscule soap sackets that need to be cut with scisorss to be opened are the shampoo. My clothes were smelly after leaving the room and remain like that in my meeting. The internet is not free, £9 for every 24 hours. The staff at the reception lack experience and all kind of information about the hotel. Do not go there if you want sleep and the only thing you want from the hotel is a relaxing time. Go to the West Bestern Cutlers instead. That one is cheaper, better and cleaner. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Excellent stay. We wanted a central hotel close to restaurants and tram stops, as we were going to see John Bishop at the Arena. Great restaurants very close by in Leopold Square and only 2 minutes to tram stop at the Cathedral. Could not fault the hotel.Down for breakfast at 8.30 and the restaurant was very quiet despite the hotel being full. Excellent […] breakfast Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Enjoyable stay in Sheffield"
My daughter & I were in Sheffield for a Uni Open Day. Got an excellent rate with Winter Deal. Very central & easy to find . We had a long journey so it was great to find we had such a lovely room. We had an excellent night's sleep.Breakfast was included & we both thoroughly enjoyed it.Hopefully we will be back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Mercure St Paul is in an ideal location for visiting Sheffield. Bright and modern and quite stylish, it's right next to the city's imposing Winter Gardens. Entering our room, we discovered the electricity supply had been cut. This was remedied in about 10 minutes. Rooms are clean and decorated in a reasonably contemporary style with good quality fittings […] and a fair degree of comfort. On the down side, the uneven carpet in our room needed re-fitting and the bathroom toileteries were in such tiny packages the combined shower and hair gel wouldn't have been big enough to wash a gerbil. Service is polite and friendly. There's a lounge bar, champagne bar and restaurant downstairs and the breakfast is top class. On the whole, a well-run hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
