"small rooms but great service"
We were all disappointed when we first saw the rooms...very small and most unattractive. However, the hotel employees were all friendly and so helpful so in the end we were happy with the hotel. We really enjoyed the happy hour in the bar.Genuine Expedia guest review
We have only good things to say about the Hotel Holt. The hotel is very clean, conveniently located, and very quiet and comfortable. And best of all, they have terrific service! Here are just a few examples of the service: My wife called the desk for an ironing board and iron. It was brought to our room in minutes! There are no ice machines on the […] floors, so we called the desk about getting some ice in our room and the desk manager had ice at our door in a couple minutes. When we checked out, we intentionally left a small article behind in the room, not wanting it any longer, and the hotel staff promptly alerted us by email that they found the article and were concerned if we wanted it sent on. These and several other examples demonstrate why the Hotel Holt impressed us with their awesome service. We'll happily return here and recommend it based on our experience. "Charming and Convenient - Reykjavik gem"
Requested an early check in, and a room was ready for me on arrival (7am), including the opportunity for breakfast. Friendly and efficient check in process. Very comfortable room, spacious and clean. Was even offered a light snack while waiting for a bus pick up at 5am. Highly recommendedGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great location, fantastic service, lovely decor,"
A long-time friend and I stayed at Hotel Holt and, after a week's stay, it started to feel like home. Most memorable were the friendly, efficient, professional and very helpful reception staff who answered our endless questions, offered some great suggestions for things to do/see/eat and helped us book tours and restaurant reservations. Located in the […] center of the city, my friend's room had a fabulous view of the city from her balcony room and we were only steps away from all the great shops and restaurants. We had a few breakfasts at the hotel and they were tasty and filling with lots of choices - coffee was great, something to look forward to in the mornings! The walls were decorated in beautiful artwork, the largest private collection in the city/country - I walked through each floor to look at all the paintings and sculptures. The bar and reception area were both had comfy leather chairs, great for chatting or having a drink and some snacks. My room in the back of the hotel was also comfy with all the amenities including a hot pot to make tea, hot chocolate or Nescafe; hair dryer and robe in the spotless bathroom; plenty of closet space and a desk for writing postcards. Whenever I return to Reykjavic, I would definitely book another stay at Hotel Holt and would highly recommend it to all my friends. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the glacier. Breakfast buffet was good and dinner in the restaurant was also enjoyable - not fine dining, but very good quality.Genuine Expedia guest review

A little faded but comfortable and very friendly and helpful staffGenuine Expedia guest review
Very helpful staff, great location, nice view from the balcony. The hotel is very unique with art everywhere you look. Quite old fashioned but not stiff.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and staff exceptionally helpful"
3 day stay and the hotel is well kept, clean, tidy and with exceptionally friendly staff. Only ate breakfast at the hotel which at 15 euros was expensive for what it was but did the job on the two days we needed to run out on trips, bearing in mind how reasonable the hotel was, didn't begrudge the price overall. "Centrally located, in quiet street"
Just what we wanted from a city break hotel. Great service, friendly staff, only a few mninutes walk from centre, but in a quiet location.Genuine Expedia guest review
The staff are very helpful and friendly. The Gallery restaurant is quiet, interesting artwork and delicious food. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the town centre.Genuine Expedia guest review
"A great central location"
The hotel is perfectly placed to make the most of your stay in Reykjavik, central but also close the the main bus station which is essential for all the trips you will make. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are large and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and I would recommend this hotel to anybody thinking of staying in Iceland.Genuine Expedia guest review
We spent four nights at the Holt and would recommend it without hesitation. A very comfortable hotel, the service was excellent. The bonus is the art collection displayed throughout the hotel. I would suggest that you miss breakfast and search nearby where there are numerous choices.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and friendly staff"
Set in a quiet residential area of Reykjavik, our room was on the 4th floor with a panoramic view of the city. This meant we had a grandstand view of the Northern Lights each evening. (Ask for a room on the front of the hotel). The hotel is conveniently located for the main shopping streets and restaurants and the bar cosy but pricey, like all things […] in Iceland. "great hotel for couples or families"
Very good location. Just five minutes walk from centre.Reception staff always happy to help. We never ate at the hotel as always in city centre but I am told by others that the restaurant is fantastic. Would definatley stay here again and againGenuine Expedia guest review
"Friendly staff, relatively quiet and central loc."
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, toothpaste included, not noisy outside (in February at least). Other than the usual rather low funky sounds from the walls / neighbouring rooms there was very much nothing to complain about. Two smaller car parks belonging to the hotel nearby and free parking at the side of the street in front of it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very central and good standard"
Very much enjoyed my stay. It was close to Hallgrimskirkja and further northwest you had the cool/trendy bars etc. Quiet street with a nice bakery only 2 min walk away in case you don't get breakfast there, otherwise food in the restaurant is good, if not a little pricy. Only negative was that in my room (203 or so) there was a loud noise from something […] next doors close to the stairs at around 07-08 in the morning. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location, Fantastic Staff."
Booked this Hotel from the reviews on this site and was not disappointed. It is a lovely comfy hotel with a real charm of its own. The room (junior suite) was well appointed with a balcony and great views over Reykjavik. Close to all the restaurants, bars and sights. It is situated down a quiet residential street a five minute walk from the city centre. […] The bar was cosy and always the right place to finish the evening with a nightcap. Could'nt speak highly enough of the staff, all were friendly and helpful with excellent customer service. From advising on eating/drinking venues to keeping a packed lunch in their fridge overnight ready for an early start the next day. The manager Snorri even helped arrange a sightseeing flight before we had even arrived. Iceland is a great place to visit and our stay at the Hotel Holt added to what was a great experience. "A Hotel with a Soul."
My wife and I have had a wonderful stay at The Holt Hotel. The whole place was full of character and charm. The staff were all very helpful which made our stay very memorable for us. We had breakfast every morning with a choice to please most. We also had a wonderful meal with wine in the restaurant, which I can honestly say was the best I've ever tasted. […] Martin, our waiter, was most attentive and not a detail was missed. I would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to anyone looking for a Hotel with what I would call a soul, and it became part of the whole experience of staying in Iceland. Just one small thing was missing, "The Northern Lights", that would have been the icing on the cake! Our thanks to The Holt Hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful and classy hotel"
My trip to Iceland was virtually on a whim - and I don't think I could have picked a better hotel even if I had researched it for weeks. My stay was flawless from check-in to check-out. All the day tourrs I took had free pick-up from the hotel. The centre of Reykjavik is an easy walk and the Gallery restaurant serves up exceptional meals. Extremely […] satisfied with my trip. My husband and I have just returned from 8 days in Iceland staying at Hotel Holt. We both felt that the hotel was fantastic and that staying here was a major part of a great "Iceland experience". We particularly enjoyed the art work (ask to see the book behind the desk which has a couple of chapters in English in it) - to be able to see major Iceland […] artists like Kjarval hanging in the bar and restaurant each day was fantastic, and folk art of Icelandic landscapes in the bedrooms and public areas certainly makes a nice change from the usual ikea type stuff you get! I was pregnant and the hotel restaurant and bar were really accommodating and helpful regarding food. Reception were very informative regarding tours, booking them and pointing out discount vouchers that we might not otherwise have seen. Breakfast was fine - plenty of choice etc - I have to be honest and say we only ate it once as it was not included in our room rate and we tended to prefer a cafe 5 minutes walk away - thereby saving our money for dinner in the restaurant which was exceptional! I can also heartily recommend the non alcoholic cocktails on the bar menu - delicious... Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very Nice Hotel, but rooms were small."
The hotel was really nice and the location was very good. We were a short walk from downtown and The Pond. I did find our room to be a bit small, even by European standards. "Quality, character and location"
High quality and dedication to service are the key qualities. This hotel has class and is superbly located; walk to all major downtown attractions. the art collection is the best I have ever seen.Genuine Expedia guest review
Pleasant hotel in a quiet district 10 mins walk to the old town. The drab modern exterior underplays its comfortably furnished public rooms with smart wood-panelled decor and an interesting art collection. Excellent breakfast buffet. All of the staff at Hotel Holt were incredibly helpful, recommending and booking excursions and even advising on the need to use conditioner in your hair at the Blue Lagoon to avoid it frazzling. "Hotel Holt - a very good choice"
This is the oldest hotel in Reykjavik. Excellent service from hotel staff when it comes to advices on excursions etc.. They also helped with booking trips etc. The hotel has the biggest private art collection (of paintings) in Reykjavik (I was told) and it had a very nice bar with excellent Whiskey selections. My room was clean and nice but not the […] highest quality. We were two people, had not specified that we wanted two single beds, and got one big bed. When I asked for a room with single beds, the hotel did not have that available. However they offered us two rooms instead (without any additional fees) until they cold move us into a twin bed room the next day. "Best located hotel in Reyjkavik!"
The best thing is the location and easy free parking. The hotel is just 3 mins from the city centre but in a quiet area so no bother sleeping! We only had a standard room as this was all I could book on Expedia. It was quite small but I suspect there were better rooms to be had and we heard even the possibility of a balcony but I don't think these are […] available on Expedia. We did not eat in the evening at the hotel but our breakfast was included. This was a little disappointing as it was only a basic buffet and just scrambled egg and bacon as hot choices. If you got down late and everyone else was early it felt a bit like you had the final pickings! Also the only hotel I have stayed at that served a big pile of borbourn creams at breakfast!! I do agree with other reviews that the hotel is rather dark however I think this is to preserve the expensive paintings and antiques which are throughout. As long as you have good eye sight this is not a problem!!! Stayed 5 nights in February. First room that we had, a standard room, was adequate though shower room very small. The shower room was still very small, but clean, […] and shower was very good. "We loved Hotel Holt."
Sumptuous hotel - with a really one off feel to it. If you can't stand the corporate big hotel experience but like your comforts and cleanliness then this is for you. It's also crammed with art - some great, some not so great - but that's what makes it too!! It's got a fantastic bar and restaurant - in fact the best of several hotels we stayed in. It's […] also very quiet but spitting distance to the best bit of the centre. The hotel has a very good restaurant with a lot of art on the walls, in a very traditional athmosphere, from local Icelandic painters. I recommend all guests to visit this culinaric restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent place to stay. Rooms themselves pleasant and comfortable, decent-sized though not large. Lovely communal areas to sit and relax in, and fascinating artwork on display there and in the hotel corridors and rooms. Would highly recommend the restaurant if you can afford it. "Hotel Holt - excellent hotel w. fantastic service!"
My girlfriend and I stayed at Hotel Holt for 5 nights, and had booked a twin/double (only available) so I contacted the hotel about getting a double room. If the Holt hotel had looked at our booking request (from 4 months before) for a double bed, our experience here would have been more positive. They gave us a twin - when we pointed it out, unfortunately they said they had no double bedded rooms available, so the only thing they could do was downgrade us to a queen size bed which they use for single […] guests. I get tired of hoteliers saying 'you can just push the 2 beds together'. The answer is 'no you can't - there is a big dip in the middle, and why on earth should I just for your convenience?'. The girl on reception did her best by offering us breakfast (we had booked on a room only basis) but I still felt disappointed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Gammalt och omodernt"
Gamla rum, badrum. Dålig belysning i rum. Frukost väldigt begränsad ingen i gruppen av 5 var nöjda! Restaurang var dock i toppklass !!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel Holt, I believe was built in the 60's and this is what it feels like. The room, a junior suite, felt non-modern and non-fresh. Older carpeting on the floor, older shower and furniture in the room. The breakfast was not included in the package and it is best to skip this if it's not already paid for. There are many nearby better and cheaper breakfast […] options. The walls are thin as we could here everything from the room above us, including using the restroom. When we checked-in, we received almost no information about the hotel or services. I had to ask where the stairs were located or if there was an elevator. The girl at the reception for the weekend was very nice and helpful. The hotel is in a good location as well, but Reykjavik is small and most hotels should be located in good distance to everything. The artwork in the hotel is very nice. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
