Located on a quiet residential street; ½ block away from Vondelpark; about 5 blocks from Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum. Delicious bakery nearby; shopping & restaurants down the block. Tram stop quite close. Walking distance to touristy area w/Hard Rock café and Mac?s Bikes. My room was just below the lobby so noisy during high traffic times. Otherwise a good place. Breakfast was included, but never ate there as I preferred the bakery down the street. A good value. The staff was nice and helpful. I would stay here again.

The hotel is some way out of the city centre, but a trip on a No. 2 tram gets you into the Dam Square in about 7 minutes. Near the hotel are the two main Art museums and the Vondel Park. There is no facility for an evening meal but many restaurants in various tastes may be reached quickly on foot. The breakfast provided is excellent and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We were amused by the "price list of all items in the room" because some visitors may wish to take them away! Any missing items may be added to the bill. We thought the HD TV was good value at 500Euros! Definitely worth considering

Single room is a slight overstatement, although the room was very very small (just enough room for me and my suitcase) it was clean and presented well. However, i really wasn't impressed with the price i paid for that tiny hole of a room in the basement of the hotel. The bathroom was again clean and well presented, i especially likeed the walk in shower, although it was badly designed which allowed the water to gather at the entrance! The staff were frendly though not very accomodating and breakfast was nice in a lovely breakfast room.

Room very clean. Beds were the most comfortable I slept in on this trip (out of 5 places in Europe). Elevator makes it easy to get luggage to room. Pretty hearty breakfast served. Hotel is about 3 blocks from Rijksmuseum & tram stop. One staff member was not very helpful but all others were wonderful. Hotel is toward the end of a street of high end shops so immediate area is pretty quiet at night. We felt very safe in the area at all times. I definitely recommend this hotel.

The location of the hotel was excellent, but the room and service were lacking. One of the reasons we chose this hotel, besides the location, was that it was a non-smoking hotel. I realize we were in Amsterdam and marijuana is legal, but our floor was like a "pot haven." The smell permeated through the door and into our room. When I went downstairs to complain, I was told "we can't enforce what people do in their rooms." I felt that was not a good answer especially since the non-smoking rule was advertised. The man behind the desk desk told me there was nothing he could do. Also our towels and bath mat in the bathroom had huge holes in them. I brought them down to the same front desk man. He apologized and gave me a new set. Overall I would not recommend this hotel and would do more research when selecting another hotel.

The hotel is a good value for the money, but is not a great hotel. My room was in the basement. The window was high on the wall and looked out at sidewalk level, so I never opened the curtain or had natural light in the room. The room was clean, but very small. There was a small closet with 1 small drawer for clothing, so I lived out of my suitcase. The backdoor to the building opened to a fenced-in yard, but the door was open all the time for the 4 days I was there, and I had to kill several mosquitos before entering my room. The breakfast buffet was typically Dutch and very good. The location was wonderful. It was around the corner from the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum, and steps away from several tram lines. While the streets around the hotel boast high-end shopping, the hotel is located on a dead-end street that, while quiet, is a little shabby.

The Hotel City Garden sits on a beautiful residential street on the edge of the museum district. Just three blocks from the Van Gogh museum, it's a perfect location for an art lover. It also backs up to the beautiful Vondel park, so it's very peaceful. The room is quite small, but if you are traveling alone, extra space isn't necessary. If there was one downside, they still charge for wireless internet in the rooms. However, they provide a free access computer in the lobby

Pleasant reception staff, free internet in lobby also wi-fi available in room for extra charge. On arrival we were offered breakfast in house for €7.50, which is quite cheap for that part of town. I stayed six nights in early December in a single-bed room. It's a wonderful hotel for the price. The room was small but very comfy. I booked it through Hotels.com which was much less than the advertised rates on City Garden Hotel's Web site. The Good - Staff is friendly. When I had a headache, one of them gave me aspirin. - Pretty good free breakfast buffet. Juices, scrambled eggs, ham, croissants, cereal and more. - Free umbrellas are available for your use. - Free use of only computer and Internet connection by the lobby. (Wireless Internet required buying card - I think about 10 euros for a few hours) - Convenient location - 15 minutes by Tram from Centraal Station. (Sorry I don't remember the tram number - Maybe the 5. To Van Baerlestraat.) 15 minutes walk from Leidesplein. 45 minutes walk to Damrak and Red Light District. 5 minute walk to trams in all directions. Right next to Vondelpark. PC Hooftstraat is a street filled with high-end shops. Near a bakery and cash machines for ING Barings and ABN Amro. - TV in your room. Decent channel lineup - English-language CNBC and CNN International included as well as Dutch-language stations. - Good shower pressure and hot water. - Decently heated room. Great view of Vondelpark - Non-smoking. - Free bag storage room. - Room was cleaned very well daily. Reviewed by Melissa of Alexandria on Oct 29, 2008

Our cab driver just whistled and stated that we were staying on the most expensive street in Amsterdam. The designer shops near the hotel showed why and therefore, I was expecting a hotel with a bit more of an upscale interior. The hotel itself is on the end of a street that deadends into a park. The area was quiet, the hotel staff cordial offering info about sights, trams, bus routes and restaurants. The hotel has no ramp up to the lobby. There are about three steps up from the street. Lobby is small and the rooms are even smaller. Some rooms are located on a sub-floor below the lobby. Ours was inconveiently located between the lobby and the breakfast room... quite noisy. All the rooms have a rather sensitive alarm on the door which if left open for more than about 30 seconds, begins to go off...loudly... The breakfast room was nearly always crowded, even in this off-tourist season. You are assigned a breakfast time based upon your room number. While I did not think the value was comparable to the quality (it was the most expensive hotel on our entire trip through europe and by far the smallest room), the hotel did offer a clean room. But if it were up to me, I would choose to not stay at this hotel again.

The flat-screen TV had a large choice of channels and there was excellent free WiFi coverage in our room. The location was within a 10 minute walk of Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. Tram stops for some major tram lines (#2 and #5) are about 5 minutes away.

Excellent location (very close to museums; tram stop is a block up, etc.), good value, clean hotel. Decent breakfast (lots of food; nothing spectacular, but a good breakfast to get you going in the morning). I felt very safe in the hotel and the neighborhood. Awesome park just a few hundred feet down the street. The street actually dead ends into the park entrance - this really helped keep actual car traffic down making this a pretty quiet hotel.

The Hotel City Garden is directly adjacent to major museums and Vondelpark on Pieter Cornellius Hoofstrat which is a high end shopping street with international retailers. It is somewhat removed from bars and restaurants which are a 7 minute walk away on the LiedsePlein. A tram stop is three blocks away. The neighborhood is quiet but pretty much deserted after 6pm. The room was tiny more of a ships berth but it was a single room which was furnished with a single bed, desk, 19" flat screen TV, and an armoire. The bathroom was modern and clean with a stall shower. There is no bar or restaurant associated with the hotel contrary to the description on-line. There is a breakfast room which is open 7am-11am with a moderate continental breakfast included in the cost of the room. The staff was helpful and efficient. A computer with free internet access is located off the lobby. This is a good quiet location for those interested in shopping and the museums, the rest of the city is available by tram. If you want to be located near the nightlife or bar/club scene I would choose a different location.
