"LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
This little hotel has location, location, location! It is less than 5-10 minutes walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, & Tempolo Adriano. It is about 15-20 minutes from the Coliseum, the Forum, and Vittoria Emmanuelle, around 25-30 minutes from Piazza del Popolo, and a half hour from the Vatican. Seconds away from the main artery Via Del Corso, you can’t get a better location for a more reasonable price. The front desk staff is wonderful and Tomosso in particular will not hesitate to recommend the best restaurants and tell you how to get to all the sites within Rome. He recommended fabulous restaurants and mapped out a walkable itinerary of sites daily for us. If you don’t care to walk, the hop on hop off bus is two minutes away. What really sets this hotel apart is the 5th floor outside deck with a panoramic view which is used for breakfast in the morning and a possible night cap at night. What a way to start and end a day. It was beyond gorgeous and really a delightful highlight to a memorable stay in Rome. The rooms are big enough to accommodate two easily and are clean and neat. The only difficulty I encountered was that I was unable to connect to Wi-Fi but instead used the downstairs computer. Some of the rooms on the upper floors are only accessible by a short stairway which is difficult with heavy luggage. Other than that, our stay was perfect and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Excellent, convenience to airport was essential.

We did not get information that payment by card was not accepted. The breakfast was poor, bread from yesterday, cerials too sweet. The juice was more like lemonade than fruit-juice.
"Would stay there again"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Had a great experience. Our triple room was clean and bed very comfortable, including pillows. 40 inch hd tv with all the sky channels with the options to switch to English language. Filled a form with time and choices for breakfast . Arrived on time and plenty of food. ( Italian style breakfast) . Front desk nice and helpful. Near American embassy, hard rock cafe' , villa borghese park( very nice!) . Would stay there again and reccomand it to friends and family

Room was so small that we could barely walk around the bed and there were no drawers in which to put clothes. The buffet breakfast, however, was outstanding and the location very convenient. Front desk staff could be friendlier. The room was much smaller than the photo for that level of accommodation

Rome’s central train station, Termini is the entry point to the city from Fiumicino Airport, and is an impressive modern architectural sight. Between here and glamorous Via Veneto, there are several interesting places to visit. The Palazzo Barberini is a superb baroque palace, the Terme di Diocleziano was the city’s largest bath complex and the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione is remarkable for its Capuchin monks’ crypt.

Perhaps it was just bad luck - but we had a disappointing stay at this hotel. I tried to arrange for the hotel to pick up my husband at the airport while I was working - and they failed to do so. The hotel has a dark red and black modern look to it, but it is not well cared for and you can see the wear and tear around the edges. The elevator was out […] of service the entire time (though to their defense, many elevators in Rome were out that week). Our biggest problem was that the double standard room we rented looked out into an internal emergency stairwell - so it was totally dark... no natural light at all. For all the money we spent on the room we were disappointed. Roof restaurant is lovely - but very expensive. Location is great though - close to both metro lines and the train station. I go annually to Rome for work, but I won't stay there again. Read more
"La Griffe Hotel - great location"
the hotel itself was very nice. the breakfast buffet (included in price) was well prepared and offered wonderful variety. Our room was adequate. Unfortunately, the bathroom was a problem. We were missing HALF the shower door. how the housekeeping staff misses that was a mystery. also, I think there was a leak in the tub/ pipes. we were not able to use […] it the first night, but the door was replaced by the 2nd night.. the hotel staff was great with recommendations for area restaurants. "The Griffe"
I was so disappointed in this hotel. The staff at the front desk, concierge, and porter were very friendly. The staff at the restaurant were very inattentive and unfriendly. The bathroom was so small & the shower leaked out of its stall and flooded the floor. The bed was uncomfortable. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
"Small but stylish, comfortable and professional"
In a city full of hotels indifferent to their guests and over-priced for a non-experience, Le Griffe was a lucky find.
"La Griffe --- walking distance to metro"
The hotel is walking distance to the metro which was very convenient. The area was safe and had many shops. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. "La Griffe - location, location and a nice big bed."
Rome is an expensive city compared to the rest of central Europe. So, spending a little extra on this 5 star hotel is a good deal. Location is everything; Via Nationale is filled with shops, markets and restaurants. Walking distance to the heart of Rome; Foro Romano and the Monument of Vitorio Emanuelli. This is the place to star walking in Rome. The […] Hotel is modern; great service, funky deluxe rooms. Modern red colors, tv-computer, minibar and big shower room. Climate control works fine, and there is a nice bar and restaurant in the ninth floor; nice to grab a night drink before resting. Don't try to save a few bucks in a 3-4 star hotel; they are probably a little far from the heart of Rome and for a $40 dolar difference per night, go for this 5-star hotel. Breakfast cost 15 euros but is worth it; the buffet was incredible. I will consider it for my next visit. Location, location and a nice big bead in a big room for Rome standards. Read more

"Last night in Italy....Bad Experience"
We spent a lot less money during 10 day stay at various hotels and cities in Italy, and we opted to spend more on our hotel during our last night in Italy. Our experience at La Griffe was horrible, we wasted our money. The hotel was a little dark for my liking but gorgeous overall. The services were horrible and communication was an issue. We were suppose […] to have free Wi-fi but it didn't work that day so if we needed it, we basically had to wait in line to use the one receptionist computer that had internet capability. We had a rental vehicle to park so we had it valet. It wasn't ready for us the next morning so we can head out on early flight. We personally had to walk to the parking garage that was not opened at the time with the clock ticking. After it finally opened, they said we owed them 40euro. We told them we already had a credit on file for incidentals such as this. They said they only took cash and no credit so it couldn't have been the case. We didn't have any cash on us because the night before was our last night in Europe therefore we spent it all so that we didn't have to exchange it at the airport. We walked back to the hotel explained the situation and they said that usually they charge the credit card but in this case they wouldn't! Why is it a case by case basis?!? We had to go to the nearest ATM to try to get cash, it was not working...clock still ticking. We knew we were absolutely going to miss our flight if we wasted any more time on it. We went back to the parking garage and asked if we can give him the equivalent in US dollars because the closest ATM was not working. He called the hotel to get him the exchange and they told him it would be $60. Excuse me but $60 US is nowhere near 40euro, it's a lot more....We were so frustrated that we just handed him over the $60, just so we can make our flight. Bad, bad communication and service from La Griffe. I never will stay there or recommend them. Read more

Upon arrival the check-in staff were not friendly. The design of the hotel is too dark. Some lights in the room didn't work. There was no remote control in the room. "One-night wonderful experience"
This hotel was very nice. You are greeted warmly by the front desk and everyone from the front desk agent to the bellman was very helpful. We we checked in, the front desk agent even helped us to get our bearings and what sights were close to us. Very easy to get to. Only one metro stop away from the train station and not a far walk at all from that […] stop. In fact, we passed it at first so pay attention to the street numbers. Loved the restaurant on the terrace! It was my favorite part. The food was amazing and the view was spectacular. There was a guitarist up there as well which was nice but I think his backround music was better than he was. Shower was confusing. Too many gizmos and gadgets in my opinion. It looked cool though. Phone didn't have a dial tone so we couldn't call down to the front desk for information. No iron in the room. If anyone is wondering, the hotel is more than happy to hold your luggage for you while you go out and tour some more weather you haven't checked in yet or you just checked out. It was well worth the stay even though it was just for one night. Thank you to all staff of La Griffe. Read more

"Great location"
We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and thought it was great. A disclaimer first though: we didn't spend any time at the Hotel except at night - we came in late and then left in the morning for a whole day of sight-seeing. Having said that, the time we spent there was very comfortable. There is a strange push for you to go to restaurants set up byeither […] the front-desk staff or the bell-man, where we think they must get a commision of some sort. The first recommendation was great, but the subsequent ones were over-priced and not as good. YMMV. The room was very comfortable and always kept clean. Every time we returned to the room, we had fresh supplies (and we even dropped in for a few minutes during the middle of the day). There is no free internet, but you can buy an hours' worth. The system is supposed to allow you to stop and restart your session but this functionality was broken at the time, but I received a 4-hour free compensatory access when I told them about it, which was great! A minor quibble is that there is no iron in the hotel at all! I am a stickler for ironing my shirts and couldn't believe it. When I asked the first time, I received a strange explanation from the front-desk staff saying it was a 5-sstar hotel and you should be using laundry services; which I might have considered if it weren't both very expensive and also only available druing Mon-Fri. We happened to arrive on Friday in the evening and so could not use the service until Monday (I ended up not ironing anything). When I pressed a second time, they said it was because it was a fire hazard. Overall, the hotel was great, and I recommend staying there is you are like us and mainly only use the room at night. It is within easy walking distance to a lot of things and close to the metro (easy walk to the Termini, which takes you pretty much anywhere you need to be). The metro is also very affordable, so it's great after a long day of walking to ride the metro back to the hotel. Read more
"Hotel La Griffe "Luxury" Hotel"
I don't know how awarded this hotel 5 stars. Poor service, the rooms were far from 5 starish, the TV didn't work, internet didn't work, first we got a small room although I paid for another one. I would now recommend anyone to stay here and I would rate it at most 3 or possibly 4 stars. The breakfast was ok though, however it cost extra.
"Definitely not five star"
On arrival, room keycard not working (other guests had same problem), then provided with traditional key which was very temperamental requiring several minutes of manoevring to successfully unlock the door. Room not as described, several lights not working, only 7 TV channels (1 of which was English - CNN), internet not functional, leaking of water […] from ceiling, smell of cigarette smoke filled room every time aircon used. Also had 2 single duvets covered with double sheets for our "double" room. However, staff were generally friendly, bathroom was clean and provided with fresh towels daily and only few minutes walk away from nearest metro. Breakfast served on top floor (good views) which also functions as bar and restaurant - the one evening we checked it out it was completely empty. Overall it was OK but definitely not 5 star and worth the price in comparison with other similarly priced 4 star hotels. We would not return to this hotel. Read more
"nicht so luxuriös wie erwartet"
Very friendly welcome at the check in, but some of the staff need education in friendliness (or probably better language skills) In total the hotel has clearly seen better days and would profit from a thorough refurbishment. - We had a junior suite, that was quite run down. The environment is really not quiet, but a good starting point for sightseeing […] or travelling. Really good was the breaktfast we enjoyed on the roof to a very reasonable price! Read more
"Small, squashy, unfriendly staff"
We booked our accommodation on line. When we were taken to our room, we then realised that there were no windows outside. I erroneously assumed that a hotel of this star rating would at least have a window. We did have a door however which lead to the stairwell. Housekeeping had left the door open one day while we were away and found it open when we […] returned. Thankfully nothing went missing from our room as there was direct access from the stairwell straight into our room. The shower in the room was so tiny you couldn't clean yourself properly or bend down. You couldn't even close the door properly without squashing yourself against the shower tiles behind. You couldn't sit on the toilet seat without sitting on it sideways to fit your legs. We were moved to another room with 2 single beds to compensate for them leaving the door open in our room. I then called reception and asked them why they gave us another room if it had 2 single beds, we were honeymooning and wanted a bed to sleep in together, not to sleep by ourselves on either side of the room. They had no idea what they were doing, which room we were to be moved to...just terrible The staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful. Read more
Read more

"Luksus??"
Dette hotellet er ikke et luksushotell. Slapp service i resepsjonen gjorde førsteinntrykket dårlig.
Bestill bord i dagen i forveien. God tur Read more
"La Griffe Luxury Hotel- modernt men trångt"

Very nice and beautiful, stylish hotel with everything that is needed. Nice service. The restaurant was the only thing, that was not very good. The restaurant was expensive and the food was not very delicious, but the location on the roof terrasse was very nice.
"Recomended!"
Our first trip too Rome and we definatly choosed the right hotel for staying 5 nights in Rome The rooms are not very big, but ok. Nice and airconditioned. The staff in the reseption were only ok, I probobly expect more from a 5 star Hotel. However the staff working on the roof restaurant/bar were excelent. But the really great guy was Joseph the "Door […] Man". He picked out great restaurants and draw a new map for us every day. The restaurants he recomended was not the typical tourist restaurants, but just awsome small restaurants everywere in town!! Great guy! The Hotel is placed in the middle of one of the two shopping streets with only a short walk too The Colosseum, Paletine hights, The Spanish Steps, Emmanuelle Palass etc etc. The Hotel is also really close too the Subway station where you can travel too the other side of Town, near the Vatican, for only 2 EUR. We will definatly visit Rome again and there is no doubt were we will stay. Remember too bring good shoes, cause if you want too see it all its a lot of walking :) .. but evere ally in Rome is interessting. And please take the guided tours in the Vatican, The Colosseum and on the Paletine Heights. Then you easyle skip all the extremly long lines. Enjoy! Read more

"A very good hotel in Rome"
My sister and I stayed 4 nights at Hotel La Griffe from Aug 26. 2009. We chose this hotel because a friend recommended it to us. And we are very happy we did. Very elegant entrance and public area; very friendly and helpful staff; the room was impeckably clean and tidy. Very stylish bathroom. Good breakfast every morning at the roof terrace (9th floor) […] with its magnificent view at Rome's roof tops. We had dinner at the hotel one evening - that was also at the roof terrace. Very good food and a saxophone player played smooth live music. Good food and drinks and the velvet evening air. We appreciated also very much the internet connection and the aircondition. We also used the opportunity to order transfer by private car to and from the hotel, from the airport. The hotel is situated at relatively short walking distance from the main tourist sites. We really loved the stay. Read more
