Response by San Remo Hotel We are known for being the best budget Hotel in San Francisco. We offer a clean and comfortable hotel at the best rate for the value in the Fisherman’s Wharf area. San Francisco is an expensive city to visit. We gathered together some citywide and local market average daily rates* and what we found is that we are still the best value in our area (Fisherman’s Wharf). San Francisco/San Mateo citywide is $240.31 per night and in Fisherman’s Wharf we found that the Average Daily Rate was $295.00 per night. *Sources are SF Travel

"San Remo August 2014"
Overall experience was OK. This hotel is not for anyone that needs a wheel chair. No elevators. Toilets and showers are small. Reception is one flight of stairs up from street level. Rooms are small and cramped. There is a restaurant on the first floor. My room (#30) was right above the kitchen, so it was very noisy until 11:00 PM. Monday, Wednesday, […] and Friday is trash pickup, so expect to be awakened at 5:30 AM by the garbage truck in the alley outside (crashing bottles and dumping of many trash bins). Now for the good news... Hotel location could not be better. Close to everything. Hotel staff are great. Housekeeping does a great job. Rooms are not air conditioned. Be sure to get a room that has a window to the outside. Interior rooms have windows to the hallways for air circulation. Security is good. No phones, TV's, or refrigerators in rooms. Think of it as a college dorm. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This is such a lovely historic hotel at a close walk to Fisherman's Wharf, bike rentals, trolley, etc. The rooms were small but immaculate. We were a little worried about sharing a bathroom at first, but the staff was great and kept the shower and toilet areas very clean. You may need to use the earplugs provided if you are not visiting from an urban […] area yourself. We were on the water street side of the hotel. The garbage trucks and children next door were loud at times. There is a restaurant downstairs and they smashed glass bottles outside of outside of our window very early in the morning. "Small room but Amazing large claw Tub experience."
Only trbl we had was the parking lot was full for a few hours due to the marathon so we had to park a few blocks away until the parking lot opened. When you get their just drive up to the front and unload and check in they will set you up quickly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The location is good. Neighborhood is good"
You share bathroom with other people. The neighborhood is actually quiet. I managed to find a parking spot on the street, saving me $16 if using their parking. It's clean and recommend it for a quick one-night sleep.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay."
If you're looking for a great place to stay at an affordable price for San Francisco San Remo Hotel is the place. One caveat to consider, quarters are close and bathrooms are shared. Both are very clean and the important bathroom areas (i.e., toilets and showers/bathtubs are private). "Nice old hotel"
San Remo is a nice ancient hotel that they have kept in beautiful condition. Our room was very, very small but comfortable. There are shared bathrooms/showers but it was not a problem for us. No breakfast, but IHOP is 3 blocka away. The hotel is 4 or 5 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf which was a big plus for us since parking is a real problem in the area. […] We enjoyed our stay. The hotel is in a great area. It has a great old world charm. Everything is very clean and service is excellent! Beds were comfortable. The room was a bit smaller than expected all the more reason to get out and discover the area! Free wifi worked sufficiently :) so cute!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

It was a quaint place but I can't stay there again. Urine on the water closet floors. No drinking water available after staff left.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location- Friendly Helpful Staff"
We stayed at the San Remo just one night. We loved the location. We could easily walk to many sights, restaurants and bars such as North Beach, Pier 39 and the Warf. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They allowed us to leave our bags in the office even after checkout so we could further explore the city. "Great location and pretty cute"
It's a cosy and cute place in a great location. I didn't miss not having a TV in the room, but the wifi was pretty spotty. That's my only negative thing to say about it, and when I complained, they seemed serious about looking into the issue, so it may not be a valid complaint for much longer. "Great if you don't need modern."
The hotel is exactly what you would expect for the price in this great location. It is old, has no perks, and is rather noisy due to guests who aren't familiar with hotel etiquette. The only advantage was the location - just a few blocks from the wharf.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect little gem"
The San Remo Hotel is a perfect little gem. Of course it is not a super lux corporate hotel and that is what makes it special. The rooms are small but nice as was the bed. The decor is funky but appropriately so. It had an old world charm and authenticity that is hard to recreate. It is perfectly situated in a lovely neighborhood steps from Fisherman's […] Wharf. The staff is very nice and goes out of their way to accommodate. The other guests were friendly and courteous. The down-the-hall facilities were in first class condition. In short, the San Remo is aunthentic and honest. It does not try to be more than it is and that is what makes it special. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Tiny rooms but good location"
The rooms were much too small for two people and the shared bathroom situation was quite inadequate. Long wait for shower in the mornings.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very convienent to public transportation. Was concerned prior to arrival about shared bath but afterwards it is really a non issue. Never waited on shower or toilet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great neighborhood in North Beach"
San Remo is a very attractive, rambling Victorian building in North Beach. Service was friendly. Rooms were very clean, but small and basic. Each room was slightly different. It feels almost like staying in someone's home. Some roooms were darker without a lot of window area. All rooms were small. Bathrooms are shared, which was not a problem for me, […] but is probably not for everyone. No A/C, which is usually not a problem in SF, but I was there in early May and it was in the mid-80's and the room was a little warm. The best thing is the surrounding neighborhood. Close to lots of restaurants and Fisherman's Wharf. This also means that parking nearby is difficult, so you might have to pay for a garage nearby. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"great unique hotel"
everything about the hotel was great except the bed our bed was broken down on one side and caused me to roll down hill toward my husband all night. The rooms v were small but that was fine it was alittle warm in the room. If I stay again I would ask for a room with an outside window and a better bed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was an amazing experience, the hotel was so cute and charming. I felt safe and comfortable. The location is perfect, everything is within walking distance and the best part was the convince of having Trader Joe's a block down.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good budget choice-no frills"
Good budget option-like hostel but private room. Simple room, no tv, but wifi. Very sweet charming setting inside. Shared bathrooms but very clean, hot shower, heat lamp. Quiet night. Very close to fishermans wharf, restaurants, trader joes, costco. Parking 2 blocks down and reasonable compared to big budget hotels.Genuine Expedia guest review
We really enjoyed this hotel. It was like going back in time. Rooms were beautiful and the hotel was too. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Shared bathrooms and showers are still private, but not in your room. Other guests seemed very pleasant as well. Will surely return if in SF again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful, Historic Hotel"
The hotel was very neat! The staff was fantastic, and were very helpful and accommodating. "Excellent location near many attractions."
Hotel has European feel and was an attraction in itself. Near Little Italy ( restaurants, nightlife), Fisherman's Wharf, and a short walk to Chinatown. Shared bathrooms (showers & toilets separate) were not a problem, but part of the experience. There are several on each floor & I never had to wait. However, do get a room with a sink. Loved the complementary […] massage chairs on each floor (3rd floor is better one though). I read other rewiews that said the place could be noisy, but that was not my experience. "What a delight!"
I can't imagine that a true bargain can be cloaked in such quaint elegance. The kind of elegance from a by-gone era. To me, that is at the heart of San Francisco - a by-gone era surrounded by today's world. The San Remo was welcoming, delightfully old-world, and beyond expectations. The shared bathroom never was an issue. The convenience to Fisherman's […] Wharf and North Beach was perfect. The staff was personal and accommodating. It truly felt like staying at a family compound. We will be back. I will caution that the beds are a bit on the firm side for my liking. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Best place to stay!"
This hotel had a very European feel with its cozy rooms and shared showers/bathrooms. Walking distance to just about anywhere or, if nothing else, a short trolley ride away. "Beautiful hotel within walking distance of Pier 39"
I don't need a bathroom in my room, but I was concerned that my girlfriend--who is borderline OCD--would feel uncomfortable. Instead she was so pleased she's going to recommend it to anyone asking where to stay inexpensively in S.F. Every inch of this hotel is decorated and clean. Not having our own shower and bathroom were not a problem--on our floor […] was several bathrooms and showers so neither of us had to wait. And you're about five blocks from the piers. And there's a great deal for parking available at the main desk, parking for $16 for 24 hours (no in-and-out) at the Safeway parking garage two blocks from the hotel. I will never stay anywhere else in S.F. from now on. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"European style pension"
The San Remo is an excellent choice for those seeking something a bit different in lodging. The hotel has a marvelous history and is absolutely charming! It's nestled between Fisherman's Wharf and North Beach - the location can't be beat! The rates are great and the staff was cordial and helpful for the most part. Be aware it can get noisy, though, […] as it sits atop a popular Italian restaurant. However, I found that after 11pm everything quieted down. "Clean - simple"
The San remo has a great location. It's clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. This is a "simple" accommodation with shared bath. If you want all the extras don't stay here but if that's not necessary, the San remo is a great valueGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Location, Shared Bathroom Not a Problem"
It's great that there can be a hotel so cheap at a location so nice. The number of bathrooms is not that many so you may have to wait a bit in the mornings but generally you don't have to. Everything is very clean, and the people at the front desk are very helpful. There's few amenities so don't expect TVs and fridges.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, great price!"
I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the things I wanted to see/do in San Francisco. I was able to walk to most of the sights, and if you don't want to walk, it is really close to several bus lines. It was reasonably close to the BART station, though make sure you take a trolley or a cab because it's a few miles up and down hill by foot. The […] entrance is sort of hidden between the two different entrances of the Italian restaurant downstairs, but there's a sign out front. I'll admit I was a little hesitant initially, but it really was quite the charming hotel. The bathrooms and showers were at the end of the hall and were never in use when I needed to use them. It was a little stuffy inside, but when you open the window (mine opened to the hallway) it cooled off a bit. They cover the mattress with a plastic cover so it's a bit weird at first, but after a long day of walking and sightseeing, I didn't mind. The staff was really nice and willing to tell me the easiest ways to get things and even recommended a nearby bar I might enjoy. I would definitely stay here again. "Nice place; quaint, quiet, comfy, old-fashioned"
As long as you think of your hotel stay as an adventure, this little Victorian is a great place to stay. Every corner of the building is quaintly decorated with little touches. There are places to sit and read, and bookshelves filled with books you can borrow. The rooms are simple and old-fashioned, but I slept well. The showers and bathrooms are great, […] so long as you don't mind the "European-style" shared nature of them. It sounds cliche, but this hotel is about as "charming" as you can get. "Old world charm."
I found the hotel quaint and fun. I was a bit concerned about sharing a bathroom with strangers but they were kept amazingly clean and I found it all kind of fun. One morning my sister brought me a latte from Starbucks but i couldn't drink it because dairy is not my friend. On my way out, a handsome man was standing waiting for the shower and I offered […] it to him. He was delighted to accept! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. My only issue with the room was that the mattresses and pillows were rather hard. They didn't keep me from sleeping, though, and the earplugs were a thoughtful touch. I give it heads up for sure but if you have any physical issues be aware there are steep flights of stairs and no elevator - after all it was built in 1906...I would stay there again in a heart beat. I stayed in the penthouse suite, which is a stand alone room on top of the roof. It was like having my own little apartment away from everyone. "Charming Slice of History for a Great Price"
I chose this hotel for its combination of great location-only two blocks from Fisherman's Wharf and its low price-it was far less expensive than all of the other options in the neighborhood. What I was not expecting was how absolutely charming this hotel is. It has been lovingly restored to its 1906 glory. The staff are extremely helpful. If you feel […] any trepidation about the shared bathrooms-don't worry. There are plenty of showers and restrooms and they are kept meticulously clean. Also, there was always plenty of hot water. Overall, this hotel performed far above my expectations. Just going by the historical charm alone, I'm surprised they aren't charging twice as much per night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Though room was big and quiet a feeling that we overpaid big time never left us. Over 200$ for a very regular room in a very casual hotel. For this price even breakfast is extra. "Love the San Remo"
I have stayed here before and I find it charming and very nice and clean. It has a lot of history and is a darling hotel. "It was an adventure alright."
San Remo Hotel rocks. It has a colorful history (according to research it is haunted! "charming building but ho-hum room"
For the price it was OK. I was trying to economize. My single room was a bit small and bare. It was near the toilets and shower rooms, so people were going in and out of there a lot. That wasn't fortunate. On my last night the people next door came back to their room late and started talking. It sounded like they were IN my room. Thin walls. Even so, […] I would consider staying again. It's not sterile and cold like a motel. It's quirky and has character like a Bed and Breakfast. The other rooms seemed better located.
