"Golf (husband) - Fluff and Buff (wife)"
Great golf course, first class reception by hotel and spa staff and excellent lakeside view room. It is worth upgrading to a suite with lake view. Taboo is one of the best golf courses I have ever played. Clubhouse reception, personal warm up area on range and attentive staff. Played early morning mid week tee time and had the course to myself. Very […] tough par 3s. Great Muskoka course. Took a nice mountain bike tour. My wife spent several hours in the spa and loved it. Kayaking and tennis. Lots to do. "Would NEVER go back."
On first glance this resort looked peaceful and inviting. We checked in at 4 pm. At first we liked the look of our room, but was disappointed that there was no mini fridge. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom a nice large space. The balcony is small, but the view is breathtaking. Unfortunately they had smeared some kind of anti-bug goo all over […] the chair arms so we could not sit in the chair in a relaxed style. We were upset during the night as we could not control the temperature in the room. It was way too hot and we could do nothing to fix it. They were so short staffed it was insane. We called about a half hour after checking in to book a massage and we were told that they had NO appointments available that day or the entire next day. Seeing as this is a SPA resort, we were extremely dismayed and went down to speak to them. When we got down there we were confronted by three of the most snotty women I have ever met. One of them telling us that they just had a cancellation for the next day, which I found very interesting seeing as we just spoke to them not five minutes earlier on the phone. I booked this one appointment for my boyfriend and although he said the massage therapist was great, he was disgusted at the service of the front desk. We ate dinner one night in the Elements restaurant - way overpriced for a tiny portion of food. For over $250 a night we felt robbed and will NEVER ever go to this resort again. Check out the other fine resorts. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Loved everything about it! Next time will plan for a longer stay!Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a great time, even though the timing wasn't right. The winter activities were done and the summer activities hadn't started yet, but we were able to go on short hikes with our 3 year old twins. The scenery is beautiful and Taboo is a wonderful spot. The hotel staff were friendly and the rooms clean. We love the contemporary look of the hotel […] rooms. Will definitely be back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Anniversary Weekend at Taboo"
My husband and I checked in to the resort on March 22nd and stayed 2 nights. It was our 6th anniversary and GM of the hotel was very nice to treat us with dinner at Elements Restaurant, a bottle of wine and a cheese platter at room with a handwritten congrats card. He also wrote a portion in my mothertongue which is Turkish. How thougtful. All staff […] was aware that it was a special time for us, we were served complimentary deserts and drinks almost ever day during our stay.We stayed at room 429, really big room, facing lake with a seating area facing the firecplace. We also booked a couples massage at the spa with registered massage therapist and they did a fantastic job. We are definitely going back to the resort in summer as it seems like there are even more recretional activies in summer. Highyl recommend to anyone - just reserve one of the premier lakefront rooms. Those are the best ones and recently renovated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This resort is beautiful, clean and the room we stayed in was completely renovated and modern. We stayed in one of the Premier Lakefront rooms and had a spectacular view of the lake from the 3rd storey. With a spa on site, my boyfriend treated me to a choice of the packages they offered. We will definately visit again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Mid-Week Business Visit"
My experience is somewhat unusual as I stayed at taboo during the week of Jan 7-11, 2013, and it was very quiet. However, my room was beautiful. The hotel accommodated a 2pm check-out. The staff were very attentive and accommodating. The resort was VERY quiet, but that was likely due to the time of year and my mid-week stay. I would love to go back […] when I have an opportunity to participate in the activities offered. FYI, food portions in the Lounge are large. A pizza easily feeds two people, and the salads are enough for a full lunch. I definately want to go back on a leisure trip instead of business. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Although it was a bit of a drive to Gravenhurst, Taboo Resort was well worth the drive. The room had a gorgeous view of Lake Muskoka, and was very large and well appointed. The contemporary decor was current and lovely. The service was outstanding--all staff were very friendly. The food was great except for the lunches--the menu was limited. The wine […] prices were very high. The spa was exceptional as were the staff of the spa. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My girlfriend and I stayed here for our four year anniversary. The view was the best part from our balcony that was attached to our suite. It was also the place where I proposed to her, and now we are happily engaged.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overpriced and outdated room"
We had a classic resort view room which was very outdated. The furnitures were old and the refridgerator was making loud noises which made me unable to fall asleep. The price was expensive and the food at the Elements were too salty and overpriced. The desserts that we ordered were too sweet. Waste of money!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Setting on the Lake"
The grounds are very nice, the beach and boardwalk have a beautiful view. The rooms are nice but find it was a bit overpriced for a one night stay with no breakfast included. To really enjoy all the resort has to offer (swimming, boating), you would have to stay at least 2 nights. The room service for breakfast was good but again overpriced. The best […] part of the resort I think was the view from the deck chairs between the beach and the docks. It may be better for a romantic getaway than a family trip for only 1 night. "Fantastic, awesome, spectacular, but..."

My husband and I just spent an amazing weekend at Taboo. We have fairly high standards, and they were almost all surpassed. The lake views from the rooms are second-to-none, everything is modern and gleaming, the beds are so comfortable, the food in the Elements dining room was truly spectacular, the service was above and beyond, and we had the best massages of our lives at the spa; we could go on and on. There is really no place like Taboo in the area, and I would definitely classify it as a "luxury" resort. We would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone, it's that good. Here's the "but" (a small complaint)... the newly renovated rooms. They look beautiful, and everything is tasteful and very modern, but they are kind of cold. We'd spent a night at Taboo several years ago and I remember our room as one of the most comfortable I'd ever stayed in. Now, with the bare white walls, the grey laminate floors (with no rugs) the dark, austere cabinetry, and no seating other than one desk chair and the bed, the room had a cold, echo-y feel to it. Sorry, designers, but something is missing. Even adding a comfy, cushy arm chair in one corner and a rug would make all the difference.
"Spectacular View "
Spring was breaking Winter's iron grip. The drive was pleasant. Arriving at the the resort it stood out spectacularly jutting into the lake. The next day bright sun reflected off the the frozen lake as it slowly melted. Next week open water. The rooms, newly renovated, featured "wooden" style flooring. Large double beds. Ample places to plug in your devices. The bathrooms were euro style. A bit hard to shower as the default setting shot water across the room or into your temple. Lol. Day 2 was easier. The staff was brilliant. The setting incredible. Beware the lakes beauty. The food was acceptable though far from the standard of the hotel.
"Northern business trip"

A very pleasant experience much different from the usual business settings in a larger metro area. The lake was frozen but the staff was very warm and friendly. The food for a conference was excellent and varied. Meeting rooms in the Boathouse had beautiful views of the lake. The room was clean and comfortable, and though I didn't have a lake view which would have been nice, I wasn't in it long enough to matter. The remote location can be a challenge to and from the Toronto airport. Fortunately, a staff member went out of her way to help with travel arrangements which ended up saving hundreds off a cab fare in addition to the hassle of finding transportation.

"A Great Week In Winter"
03/31/14 TrippingAllOver Toronto
We hadn't expected the weather to still be windy, cold and snowy in late March so weren't prepared for winter activities. So we just enjoyed being in the unit, using the gym, and walking around. I attribute this to the beautiful, comfortable, spacious, 4-bedroom condo that was so conducive to just hanging out and being together. Room service, housekeeping, and technical assistance brought us what we needed, seemingly effortlessly, and so pleasantly. Spa was delightful and a fun bonding time for three girls getting massages, then using the wet sauna, grooming supplies, robes and slippers. Showers had amazing spouts that jetted you from all directions. Then we rested in lounge chairs with blanket, water, and delicious granola bars. I liked that we were the only ones in the spa when we visited. Don't think the visit would have felt as initimate if there were more clients about. The unexpected cold in the middle of winter had its perks after all! The Elements Lounge was so pleasant with a skilled and affable piano player Saturday night. We had delicious desserts and drinks. The kitchen was very basic however. Different sized bowls would have been useful. A nonstick frying pan would have lessened our angst about scrubbing clean the frying pan, which we failed to do. But then the restaurant was pretty good. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We had a great week.
"Nice resort for a golf weekend in the Muskokas"
03/28/14 rockport Ottawa, Canada
If you can afford the newer lakefront rooms...very nice. Spacious room and bathroom. My experience is based on a good location and we did not experience any noise issues or problems. Middle of the wing. Gas Fireplace. Can't comment on the older section. Dining room menu In the evenings was very good. Some tables are window side. The lakeside outdoor restaurant had a nice menu too. Tried the pulled pork sandwich and fries. Really good. Taboo golf course, across the street is a must. Beautiful scenery, layout, greens and service. We played a Sunday am in July, just the two is us and felt like we had the course all to ourself. They had no formal large club house...but a small shop with some apparel, a small breakfast/ lunch counter where we grabbed a quick breakfast before the round. Driving range is great too! What service!

This was our second visit to Taboo, and it was fantastic. I would highly recommend the culinary theatre, and a visit to the spa is a must. I love the trails on the resort grounds. They can easily fill up a day with hiking, or snow shoeing / cross country skiing depending on the season. The staff are exceptionally friendly.

This resort is incredible. We had a friend have her wedding outside on an elevated dock it was stunning! The entire resort feels welcoming and clean. The Spa was perfect, we only wished they had a shared sauna as we booked a couples massage and would have liked to spend more time together relaxing. For one nights stay with the spa package it wasn't cheap, but that being said this is not a hotel, it's a mini vacation escape that truly takes you away into the scenic views and warm hospitality. I'd recommend it again and definitely return.
"Highly unlikely that I will go back again!!"

Since we discovered Taboo several years ago, we have made at least one trip per year with the kids. Takes about 61/2 - 8 hours to get there, so it isn't a destination that I can go for a quick weekend. They had a massive indoor pool that my kids loved in addition to a games area and the kayaks. So, I booked a summer vacation for the family in a lake-view room. I called, spoke to an agent, they called up my profile, asked if I was bringing the kids (yes) and reservations were made a few weeks in advance. We arrived later in the day and our plan was to go and have a long swim, relax and call it a night. First problem - the in-room safe was broken - desk clerk said that we would have to move rooms as it had to be fixed and this meant taking apart the dresser that it was drilled into. I was told that they had an identical room 1 floor below - so we moved - locked up our goods and went to find the pool. Turns out that they had ripped the pool out to expand the spa (not happy). Outdoor pools were cold (temp was cool that whole week) Felt that they could have told me this when I was booking. Had dinner, went for a walk, came back to the room and started to settle in for the night - toilet stopped flushing at 10:45 pm - tank would not fill with water. Our room was closest to the lobby so I walked over to the desk clerk to tell them of the problem - he asks: Would you like a repairman to come to the room? (he's the same guy I've dealt with for the other problem and who advised me about the pool - he knows that I have kids - sure, I don't need a working bathroom). It takes 40 min for the maintenance man to show up (called him from home). He looks at it, admits that the ballock needs to be replaced but they are on backorder because they are a new design. He fiddled with it until it started to fill a little - said it was the best he could do that night - it now took 3 - 4 min to refill between flushes. They had no other comparable rooms available as I had one of the more expensive lake-view rooms and all others were booked - no other accommodation made. During the night, right next to our room, there is a stairway up to the administrative offices - seemed that someone went up/down those stairs once every half hour and the automatic closer made a loud bang. By morning I was wild and laid into the desk clerk. I was told that the customer service manager was away so the best that they could do was offer their "friends and family rate". For the sake of the kids, we put in the day and made do but left the next morning. Vented on the desk clerk - she took my name/number and best time to call to forward it to customer service manager. Clerk said that many people were upset about the pool. No one ever called and when I called - was put over to voice mail. - NOT GOING BACK!!
