"Golf (husband) - Fluff and Buff (wife)"
Great golf course, first class reception by hotel and spa staff and excellent lakeside view room. It is worth upgrading to a suite with lake view. Taboo is one of the best golf courses I have ever played. Clubhouse reception, personal warm up area on range and attentive staff. Played early morning mid week tee time and had the course to myself. Very […] tough par 3s. Great Muskoka course. Took a nice mountain bike tour. My wife spent several hours in the spa and loved it. Kayaking and tennis. Lots to do. "Our Stay this week was very nice!"
Our stay was overnight with my grandson! The only thing I would comment on was staff at waterfront for watercraft were not helpful at all! We had been at JW Marriott at Rosseau where water craft was far more helpful and a bigger section of craft and staff! There were no watertoys ie trampoline in water or slides for Children! Not good!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel close to beach"
Relaxing environment. Decent food. But hotel is a bit old and facilities need some upgrade, too. Overall it was a relaxing weekend.Genuine Expedia guest review
From kayaking, to the campfire and making s'mores, to hiking the surrounding trails, there was enough to keep us busy for the two days we were there. Had a beautiful lake-view room, great weather, and a beautiful sunset. Staff were very friendly and attentive, great service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A Fantastic Experience"
My stay at Taboo Resort was wonderful and memorable. It was intended as a weekend getaway for my boyfriend's birthday, we were waiting for the weather to warm up and we were very lucky to have beautiful weather the entire time. The room/view was breathtaking. We had a lakeside room, which was beautifully decorated and extremely clean and new. The morning […] was especially wonderful for the view, we ate breakfast on our balcony, it was very peaceful and relaxing - exactly what we were looking for. One of the main highlights of our stay was the dinner we enjoyed. It was the first night of the Culinary Theater, in which a chef prepared a 7 course meal in front of us and explained each detail of the ingredients and process. All of the meat, fish, vegetables, and other food were locally sourced from around the area, and other places in Ontario and Canada. That was one of the coolest things about the whole dinner experience, I really never knew the amazing flavours and food Ontario had to offer. The chef prepared some of the most delicious plates that I have really ever tasted. I ate every single morsel that was put in front of me and it included salmon, Arctic char, duck, and pork. All meats and fish I have never really given a chance but the way they were prepared was at the highest flavour level. I will be back as soon as possible. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing romantic getaway - Taboo met every expectation I set for it. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great getaway from the city"
Myself and my boyfriend had a fantastic stay at Taboo,we stayed for 2nights- defiantly will be back! Everyone at Taboo where so friendly and helpful, valet, bar staff, the guys working in the recreation centre. We where so thrilled with everything, our favourite activity for the weekend was snowmobling, the guy working in the recreation centre even brought […] us out on the frozen lake with the snowmobile which was such a great experience. Our only problem we found was the menu in the fireside bar it didn't have many options and when we did choose food, the portion sizes where extremely small, saying that it was delicious!! Thank you Taboo for a great experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Would NEVER go back."
On first glance this resort looked peaceful and inviting. We checked in at 4 pm. At first we liked the look of our room, but was disappointed that there was no mini fridge. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom a nice large space. The balcony is small, but the view is breathtaking. Unfortunately they had smeared some kind of anti-bug goo all over […] the chair arms so we could not sit in the chair in a relaxed style. We were upset during the night as we could not control the temperature in the room. It was way too hot and we could do nothing to fix it. They were so short staffed it was insane. We called about a half hour after checking in to book a massage and we were told that they had NO appointments available that day or the entire next day. Seeing as this is a SPA resort, we were extremely dismayed and went down to speak to them. When we got down there we were confronted by three of the most snotty women I have ever met. One of them telling us that they just had a cancellation for the next day, which I found very interesting seeing as we just spoke to them not five minutes earlier on the phone. I booked this one appointment for my boyfriend and although he said the massage therapist was great, he was disgusted at the service of the front desk. We ate dinner one night in the Elements restaurant - way overpriced for a tiny portion of food. For over $250 a night we felt robbed and will NEVER ever go to this resort again. Check out the other fine resorts. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We had a great time, even though the timing wasn't right. The winter activities were done and the summer activities hadn't started yet, but we were able to go on short hikes with our 3 year old twins. The scenery is beautiful and Taboo is a wonderful spot. The hotel staff were friendly and the rooms clean. We love the contemporary look of the hotel […] rooms. Will definitely be back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Anniversary Weekend at Taboo"
My husband and I checked in to the resort on March 22nd and stayed 2 nights. It was our 6th anniversary and GM of the hotel was very nice to treat us with dinner at Elements Restaurant, a bottle of wine and a cheese platter at room with a handwritten congrats card. He also wrote a portion in my mothertongue which is Turkish. How thougtful. All staff […] was aware that it was a special time for us, we were served complimentary deserts and drinks almost ever day during our stay.We stayed at room 429, really big room, facing lake with a seating area facing the firecplace. We also booked a couples massage at the spa with registered massage therapist and they did a fantastic job. We are definitely going back to the resort in summer as it seems like there are even more recretional activies in summer. Highyl recommend to anyone - just reserve one of the premier lakefront rooms. Those are the best ones and recently renovated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This resort is beautiful, clean and the room we stayed in was completely renovated and modern. We stayed in one of the Premier Lakefront rooms and had a spectacular view of the lake from the 3rd storey. With a spa on site, my boyfriend treated me to a choice of the packages they offered. We will definately visit again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Mid-Week Business Visit"
My experience is somewhat unusual as I stayed at taboo during the week of Jan 7-11, 2013, and it was very quiet. However, my room was beautiful. The hotel accommodated a 2pm check-out. The staff were very attentive and accommodating. The resort was VERY quiet, but that was likely due to the time of year and my mid-week stay. I would love to go back […] when I have an opportunity to participate in the activities offered. FYI, food portions in the Lounge are large. A pizza easily feeds two people, and the salads are enough for a full lunch. I definately want to go back on a leisure trip instead of business. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Although it was a bit of a drive to Gravenhurst, Taboo Resort was well worth the drive. The room had a gorgeous view of Lake Muskoka, and was very large and well appointed. The contemporary decor was current and lovely. The service was outstanding--all staff were very friendly. The food was great except for the lunches--the menu was limited. The wine […] prices were very high. The spa was exceptional as were the staff of the spa. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fantastic resort, wonderful staff"
11/18/14 Gofish1331 Toronto, Canada
Stayed here in September 2014. loved the room, everything was top shelf from the bedding and linens to the flat screen TV. The resort offered a fantasic variety of great food and liquers, the wine list is awesome! The golf course was AMAZING also! Challenging and some how invigourating all at once! I hope to make it back next year for another fantastic get away!
"Fantastic anniversary stay"
11/04/14 Wilma L Toronto, Canada
My husband and I recently went to Taboo Resort to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We stayed in one of the Platinum suites which was amazing and had a beautiful lake view. We could have had another couple, staying with us as the suite had two bedrooms and loads of space. We had booked the culinary theatre for dinner that evening with the wine selection chosen by the sommelier. We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience and met some very nice people at dinner. This is not a cheap evening out but well worth it - the food pairings were very interesting and the new chef did well on his first evening. Well worth trying!
"Fantastic Wedding stay"
10/28/14 Arnie050 Toronto, Canada
Stayed one night while attending a wedding..The guest rooms were very large compared to other hotel rooms, clean and well maintained. We had a double queen room which overlooked the lake, the view was fantastic, although it was a cloudy morning, the view looking over the water was amazing. Getting to the Boathouse from our room was a bit challenging, especially for the physically challenged as there were no elevators from the lobby and the walk was a little too long. Overall, our experience was very satisfying and would highly recommend if visiting the Muskokas.
"60TH Birthday stay"
10/27/14 MARK H Brampton, Canada
Recently stayed there with the spa package for my wife's 60th birthday. Despite booking in early August for Oct. 24 I was not able to book any spa treatments for the Saturday as they were already booked up, so book months in advance if you can. Upon arrival the valet and staff were there for us immediately. Valet parking was included in our stay but you still should tip. This was just as well because there were seldom parking spaces in the visitor parking lot. The reception check in was very polite and fast and we were allowed to check in at 3:20 p.m. We had a terrace view room (parking lot view) with a KIng size bed. We found this was adequate for us although we seemed to have lost hot water on the second day. No noticable trace on the inside of the October 3 fire, although if you walk outside one of the walls on the north side is totalled. The food and service in Elements were both exceptional including the breakfast buffet. Past criticisms of the omelet station seem to have been rectified. They also offer a la carte breakfast if you do not prefer the buffet. Of course prices are in keeping with a resort of this type. Staff at the spa were friendly and professional and were on time for both appointments. This was certainly a relaxing weekend and coming back here would not be out of the question.

good resort....it rained while we were there so we didn't do much...but sitting by the fire and having drinks was great and very relaxing...restaurants were ok...but service is what made it for us....overall a good place to stay but make sure its snowing or hot summer when you're there...not in the middle months....
"Ahhh, this is what I call an Autumn retreat!"
10/21/14 Sohail M Toronto, Ontario, Canada
We stayed here for two nights with another couple over Thanksgiving weekend. The two bedroom suite we stayed in was amazing with a beautiful view of the lake. I would highly recommend the platinum suites with lake view. It had a fireplace and a fully stocked kitchenette (microwave, fridge, dishwasher) which we utilized as we had brought a couple meals from home. The balcony off the lounge area was a treat, view was helped by the changing colour of the leaves, which was one of the main reasons we had chosen this weekend for a visit. Plenty of activities to enjoy, including canoeing, kayaking, hiking, biking, tennis, 3 outdoor heated pools, golf (the 9 hole executive course was included with our stay). We did some very pleasant canoeing, and took some lovely pictures on the hiking trails maintained by the resort. My friend enjoyed his massage at the spa, while the ladies participated in a yoga class. There were also paid wine tastings and mushroom tastings, though we did not participate in these. Fun activities for kids as well. On the weekend they also have live music which was fun as she sang most of our requested songs. Service was generally good. We were not very demanding in order to really test this out :), preferring to enjoy the wonderful surrounding rather than be nit picky over minor issues. Definitely on the expensive side, would highly recommend for a visit anyway.
"5 star winter, 2 star spring and summer"
10/19/14 Lisa W Oakvill
This was my winter review: Just spent three nights at the resort. Service was 99% perfect. Drinks were endless, food was exactly as ordered. The room was everything we needed and it was quiet. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing was beautiful. Visited Bracebridge one afternoon which was cheap but nice. Visited again in Easter. It was the complete opposite. As others have said, poor service, high prices, poor service, poor quality food and events. Even after contacting hotel with details concerns there was no feedback.
"Lovely Muskoka, Lacking... Again"
10/14/14 Jenny F Georgetown
We spent two nights at Taboo Resort in August of 2014. We had spent two nights here last summer, July 2013, as well. The resort is lovely as far as being on the water and the rooms are very nice (not the balconies). On both occasions we had asked for an early check-in as I think 4 p.m. is quite late (you are paying for that day, but can't enjoy it with such a late check-in). They assured us once again they would do their best to accommodate us, but once again it was apparent they had no intention of doing so. They really are just placating people. Our "early check-in" was 10 minutes before the regular check-in, 4 p.m. There were so many people in the same position and they were not happy. You get a crowd of guests in a similar situation and stories are shared. The lobby and adjoining room were full of people waiting to check-in. The following morning we decided to have breakfast at the resort as we had had a lovely breakfast in 2013 overlooking the water on the patio closest to the water. Went back to that location and there was nothing. We went back and were told the breakfast was being served at the Fireside Restaurant, which also overlooks the water, but has a bit of an obscured view. We were told upon being seated that it was a serve yourself breakfast (buffet style). My husband was a bit upset as last year they had had an omelette station. We were not told at any time there was an omelette station. He said had he known that he would have preferred to go into town for breakfast. We served ourselves and sat down at the outside patio. Our waitress was a very young girl that asked if we would like coffee. We said we both would. She brought one. I had asked for cream and sugar and it was a long time before they appeared. We were in the middle of our meal before she surfaced with the second coffee. The cups were so small that we needed a refill as soon as she walked away. It was a long time before refills happened. There really is a lot to be said for employing experienced, mature personnel, especially when you are paying such high prices Finishing our breakfast we were then presented with a $60 breakfast bill. Sooooo not worth it. We are very generous when paying for good service and food, but considering everything, that was ridiculous. Our table was dirty, but the dirt was in between the glass and table, so she said they could not clean it properly. To top it all off, as we were leaving we noticed there was an omelette station tucked off in a corner, far, far away from where the rest of the food was being served, very close to the entrance actually, and no one manning it. Why would there be someone there when they were not telling their guests about it? We have tried here twice, and both times there were issues. This resort is not exactly on the conservative side of things price-wise, so I think paying these high prices for substandard services, inexperienced high school students at a high-end resort, very old "Muskoka" chairs on your balcony that can leave slivers, and dead bugs in spiders' webs (be careful if you are going out on the balcony when it is dark), is a bit much. We will look for something else next year.
"Three stars pretending to be Five"

Below is an email we sent gues services back in the summer when we stayed. To this day we have not received a reply. "Dear Guest Services: I have been fortunate enough to be able to enjoy staying at your establishment on more then one occasion. Both times I have stayed with you it has been myself and my significant other . We were lucky enough to get away for a few days as I run a grounds maintenance business in ********. and my significant other has varying shifts at the hospital she works. I did however happen to run into a few issues that were to our concern and unfortunately made our stay less enjoyable. I did take the time to fill out the survey sent through email however did want to mention a few minor issues that we found directly. My concern is that as mentioned we have enjoyed staying at Taboo before and would like to do so again soon. The issues we ran into were unfortunately plentiful. Our balcony view was obstructed by a protruding part of the building making it near impossible to view the sunset from both chairs. We had to crowd one end of the balcony and still improvise and switch seats each night so we could both enjoy. I had requested a room with an immaculate view as our first stay was on the first floor and our view was also blocked. This was by far better however did not meet our expectations. We were also placed near a laundry vent which left us with a foul smell quite frequently during the day. We ordered room service two mornings in a row. Many things about the service were second to none. I have never personally been a fan of eggs benedict but my significant other asked for extra hollandaise sauce with her order. Our breakfast arrived and we were looking forward to eating together until she noticed she was missing the hollandaise sauce =! Obviously we called down and it was brought up within five minutes, by then I was near finished and her breakfast was cold. We were still charged full price for the dish and not compensated with a replacement meal. This kind of service was not expected. Our main complaint however was something that has been mentioned throughout the hotel by this point. We were awoken two mornings in a row by a loose water pipe in the wall. I am a fairly heavy sleeper but my significant other is not. The noise was not only waking her in the morning but during the night too. We called down to the front desk to mention it, I was quite confident that I knew what the issue was however they understandably wanted to have someone come up to take a look right away. After waiting for an hour we decided we'd like to get about our day so we called back down and were told someone will be right up. This was followed minutes later by a call saying engineering would now be up later in the day with housekeeping. The question now was are we to wait for them or not. We did go about our day and when arriving back checked in on the status and still nobody had been to our room. At that point we did ask if someone could be sent up and were accommodated immediately. The engineer/maintenance individual that came to our room was friendly, polite and great to speak with (I believe his name was Greg). He was able to find the issue and as originally commented by myself it was a loose water pipe, nothing could be done with out opening up the wall. All this time waiting and the problem was known. None the less we were kindly offered another room as we were hoping to get a good sleep. We did think the room would be of equal or better quality of our current accommodations. Unfortunately I do believe the room we were moved to is considered the same with different bedding but no seating area at all. We were definitely not impressed when we entered the room. It was again very nice, spacious and clean but with no seating area to enjoy if unable to be outside. Luckily the two queen beds allowed us to sleep further from the bathroom wall as being one floor lower and two rooms over we still could hear the loose pipe in the wall. Again this was our main concern with our stay as we both feel that if an issue as such does arise some compensation should be provided. Whether it be a discounted rate or upgraded stay something should be done in these situations to leave a great lasting impression on your guests. As mentioned we both do thoroughly enjoy the overall atmosphere and quality of the resort. The staff is friendly, food is amazing and views can be breathtaking. We are guests that would like to return to your resort for future occasions be it leisure as well as possible functions. Is there any steps that could be taken to ensure such issues don't come up during our next visit. Thank you for your time,"

Beautiful resort. However our arrival was overshadowed by a blank young man, front of house whose attitude frankly was condescending and terribly unhelpful. We were surprised that in very early September some facilities were closed The food was obviously chef standard but we did have an hour wait The staff did the best to appease us with attention and bread etc. next morning at breakfast there was no one at welcome desk and when we were seated no direction was given as to serve ourselves however a lovely young chef in attendance saved the day with helpful directions and good omelettes . we had booked a two night stay but considering the expense and overall service moved on to the residence inn in graenhurst
