"Golf (husband) - Fluff and Buff (wife)"
Great golf course, first class reception by hotel and spa staff and excellent lakeside view room. It is worth upgrading to a suite with lake view. Taboo is one of the best golf courses I have ever played. Clubhouse reception, personal warm up area on range and attentive staff. Played early morning mid week tee time and had the course to myself. Very […] tough par 3s. Great Muskoka course. Took a nice mountain bike tour. My wife spent several hours in the spa and loved it. Kayaking and tennis. Lots to do. "Would NEVER go back."
On first glance this resort looked peaceful and inviting. We checked in at 4 pm. At first we liked the look of our room, but was disappointed that there was no mini fridge. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom a nice large space. The balcony is small, but the view is breathtaking. Unfortunately they had smeared some kind of anti-bug goo all over […] the chair arms so we could not sit in the chair in a relaxed style. We were upset during the night as we could not control the temperature in the room. It was way too hot and we could do nothing to fix it. They were so short staffed it was insane. We called about a half hour after checking in to book a massage and we were told that they had NO appointments available that day or the entire next day. Seeing as this is a SPA resort, we were extremely dismayed and went down to speak to them. When we got down there we were confronted by three of the most snotty women I have ever met. One of them telling us that they just had a cancellation for the next day, which I found very interesting seeing as we just spoke to them not five minutes earlier on the phone. I booked this one appointment for my boyfriend and although he said the massage therapist was great, he was disgusted at the service of the front desk. We ate dinner one night in the Elements restaurant - way overpriced for a tiny portion of food. For over $250 a night we felt robbed and will NEVER ever go to this resort again. Check out the other fine resorts. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Loved everything about it! Next time will plan for a longer stay!Genuine Expedia guest review
We had a great time, even though the timing wasn't right. The winter activities were done and the summer activities hadn't started yet, but we were able to go on short hikes with our 3 year old twins. The scenery is beautiful and Taboo is a wonderful spot. The hotel staff were friendly and the rooms clean. We love the contemporary look of the hotel […] rooms. Will definitely be back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Anniversary Weekend at Taboo"
My husband and I checked in to the resort on March 22nd and stayed 2 nights. It was our 6th anniversary and GM of the hotel was very nice to treat us with dinner at Elements Restaurant, a bottle of wine and a cheese platter at room with a handwritten congrats card. He also wrote a portion in my mothertongue which is Turkish. How thougtful. All staff […] was aware that it was a special time for us, we were served complimentary deserts and drinks almost ever day during our stay.We stayed at room 429, really big room, facing lake with a seating area facing the firecplace. We also booked a couples massage at the spa with registered massage therapist and they did a fantastic job. We are definitely going back to the resort in summer as it seems like there are even more recretional activies in summer. Highyl recommend to anyone - just reserve one of the premier lakefront rooms. Those are the best ones and recently renovated. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This resort is beautiful, clean and the room we stayed in was completely renovated and modern. We stayed in one of the Premier Lakefront rooms and had a spectacular view of the lake from the 3rd storey. With a spa on site, my boyfriend treated me to a choice of the packages they offered. We will definately visit again.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Mid-Week Business Visit"
My experience is somewhat unusual as I stayed at taboo during the week of Jan 7-11, 2013, and it was very quiet. However, my room was beautiful. The hotel accommodated a 2pm check-out. The staff were very attentive and accommodating. The resort was VERY quiet, but that was likely due to the time of year and my mid-week stay. I would love to go back […] when I have an opportunity to participate in the activities offered. FYI, food portions in the Lounge are large. A pizza easily feeds two people, and the salads are enough for a full lunch. I definately want to go back on a leisure trip instead of business. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Although it was a bit of a drive to Gravenhurst, Taboo Resort was well worth the drive. The room had a gorgeous view of Lake Muskoka, and was very large and well appointed. The contemporary decor was current and lovely. The service was outstanding--all staff were very friendly. The food was great except for the lunches--the menu was limited. The wine […] prices were very high. The spa was exceptional as were the staff of the spa. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My girlfriend and I stayed here for our four year anniversary. The view was the best part from our balcony that was attached to our suite. It was also the place where I proposed to her, and now we are happily engaged.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overpriced and outdated room"
We had a classic resort view room which was very outdated. The furnitures were old and the refridgerator was making loud noises which made me unable to fall asleep. The price was expensive and the food at the Elements were too salty and overpriced. The desserts that we ordered were too sweet. Waste of money!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Setting on the Lake"
The grounds are very nice, the beach and boardwalk have a beautiful view. The rooms are nice but find it was a bit overpriced for a one night stay with no breakfast included. To really enjoy all the resort has to offer (swimming, boating), you would have to stay at least 2 nights. The room service for breakfast was good but again overpriced. The best […] part of the resort I think was the view from the deck chairs between the beach and the docks. It may be better for a romantic getaway than a family trip for only 1 night. "Nice room, friendły/efficient staff - too bad the restaurants are disappointing!"
03/02/14 Mom22ms Ottawa, Canada
We stayed during the Ontario Winter Games - the room had a beautiful view, nicely appointed with two beds, hardwood floors . The staff were very helpful and friendly - everything you would expect .... Except ... Both nights we ate at the Fireside Bar and ground it disappointing both evenings - the menu is extremely limited and the second evening my food was cold and extremely disappointing . The prices for entrees were ok but as mentioned the menu is VERY limited and I was glad I didn't have kids with me - there was absolutely nothing on the menu that would have appealed. The first evening we actually went to the main restaurant but moved to the pub before ordering anything since there was nothing on the main menu that anyone was really interested (a group of 15'ish!). The restaurant service on both nights was not what you would expect of a venue of this caliber ...
"Gorgeous room with a view!"

We had a nice time at Taboo. We stayed in a Premier Lakefront room and the upgrade was worth every cent! The room was beautiful with a fireplace and a great view of the snow covered lake. We enjoyed the huge bathroom outfitted with a very deep soaker tub and a rain shower that was fantastic! We visited the outdoor centre and were greeted with a smile from Sarah. Sarah helped us get kitted out with snow shoes and we had a great time exploring the trails. The bonfire was a nice touch but disappointed that no one was there to enjoy it with us - in fact we were the only ones at the outdoor centre the entire time we were there - we thought it a little surprising for a Saturday night. Later we dined at the Fireside pub which was just ok. Our waitress didn't take the time to chat or let us know the soup of the day or specials - we had to prompt her with every visit to our table - even calling her over at one point to ask for more drinks. It was a quite night at the pub with only 2 or 3 other tables so the lack of service wasn't due to her being rushed off her feet! The food was just ok too - overlooked pizza and a no flavour burger. We were happy to return to our beautiful room and the next morning we requested a late checkout. It was nice to be told to 'take our time' and not rush out. All in all a nice visit - we would return just to enjoy the room and view!
"Perfect escape away"

I took my husband to Taboo on the Family Day long weekend as we both needed a little time away after a very difficult year dealing with family health problems. It was a very last minute decision to drive the 2.5 hours to/from Taboo and it was the best decision we could have made, even if it was just for one night. The resort is great, we were given an amazing Premier Lakefront Room, ate at all three dining establishments (all great!), and loved the complimentary hot apple cider in the lobby!!! The staff at Taboo are ever so helpful and accommodating, eg. Ricordo who worked in Fireside Pub heard that we wanted to order something from the pub and something from the lounge upstairs to take back to our room and rather than asking us to do this ourselves, he took the time to run upstairs to the Lounge for us to place the order. A small gesture like that went a long way! But I specifically want to say a big thank you to Barry Wark (the Front Office Manager) for everything he did to make our stay so memorable - he epitomizes what everyone who works in the hospitality industry should aspire to be like. Thank you again for an amazing weekend and we hope to come back again for another stay in the summer.

Just came back from Taboo. Overal me and my wife had a great stay. we liked the rooms specially the view to the lake, also like the spa and the food. The restaurant is overpriced i think, paid 190$ With a avarage bottle of wine. The bar/lounge is dated. We did some snowshoeing, like that it was incl. and we like the area a lot. They did some great job with the design but in some areas way more to do. Also would be great to have a pool or hot top in the spa area. The massage was great, good job there. Overal we enjoyed it, hope they will do some more renovating and we will be back for sure !

I was surprised on a Sunday morning of a long weekend that I was going to Taboo for a night. The hotel staff was welcoming and accommodating during the entire stay. We rented cross country skies at no extra cost and explored the scenic trails. The food at Elements (resort restaurant) was better than expected and the food at the pub smelled delicious. The next morning we booked two snowmobiles but unfortunately one of them broke down and we had to call the resort for help. Given how we felt we were in the middle of nowhere the outfitter was very quick to our rescue and handled the problem very professionally. We were bummed out that our day was cut short but these things happen and we were impressed with how Geordie dealt with the problem. Afterward we enjoyed a message and pedicure at the spa, both excellent quality. Stephanie, my RMT really knew what she was doing and had the strongest hands I have seen at any resort! The only thing I could possibly come up with that I would change is to have heated floors in the rooms, or at least the bathroom. This resort is well worth the trip!
"Romantic night away "
02/16/14 ontariogirl29 ontario
Stayed here one night to have a romantic night away for valentines with my hubby . Service was nothing but fantastic from booking to checkout. Barry from the front desk was so pleasant to deal with and really seemed to go above and beyond in booking us in at the last minute . Valet service was included with our package and was wonderfully helpful . When we arrived I realized I had not brought a knife or plate for the cheese And cracker basket I had brought us so I called down to the reception desk and they said "no problem , we'll have some sent up right away " We very much enjoyed the live entertainment they provided in the lobby bar while enjoying a few drinks before dinner. Dinner was also included in our package and it was wonderful .. We both had the tenderloin and it was cooked to perfection . We had a premier lake view room and it was very clean and modern . Noticed the balcony wasn't very private though as they are all glass and almost right next to others. All in all a very nice night but I will say I am not sure it was worth the over 500 dollars it cost ... If we are going to spend that kind of money we will stick with our favorite romantic getaway The couples resort up in Algonquin where it is adults only , smaller so much more personal with hot tubs on all the private balconies overlooking the lake .
"Perfect escape from the city"
02/04/14 bcatharine Toronto, Canada
Needed an escape from the city and only had a single night to spare. I'm glad we chose Taboo; it was definitely worth the 2 hour drive. The grounds surrounding the resort were breathtaking....trees covered with snow, the lake frozen over (which our room looked directly on to). The room was beautifully decorated and had a large soaker tub and fireplace that we took advantage of. The spa service (hot stone massage) was excellent and the snow shoe trails well groomed. Dinner at the Elements Restaurant exceeded our expectations. We were the only one's in the restaurant (Monday night in the dead of winter) yet all items were available for us to choose from. I had the venison tenderloin as my main and it was cooked to perfection....probably the best vension I've ever had.
"Fireside Pub is worth stopping into this resort!"
01/27/14 Deborahjune Toronto, Canada
The views of the wintry, frozen lake are amazing. Photo opportunities galore. Excellent spa and restaurants. Really nice fireplace in the lobby where you can sit and have a drink, even a small meal! Entertainment too on the weekends! Fun! But the best part about going to Taboo in the winter are the fantastic array of activities that they offer. We went cross country skiing with an excellent guide through the forest on well groomed trails. We went snow shoeing, again on beautiful trails. They provide the equipment too! We'll have to remember to take our skates on the next visit as they have two cleared outdoor ice rinks and an ice oval. There are chairs to sit down in and put your equipment on outside (although a lot of them were still snow covered). We only wish that they would keep their outside bonfire lit - surrounded by Muskoka chairs - a perfect spot to enjoy a hot chocolate with the snow falling around you! The other great thing that we loved about Taboo was their Fireside Pub! Nice, but not too "pubby" atmosphere. No fireplace which we thought was a little funny. Lots of big screen TV's, a pool table, shuffleboard table, games and darts to keep you occupied! We loved the nachos - served with venison, possibly the best nachos we've ever had! My husband and I enjoyed a great evening there and weren't hurried at all. It was very relaxing. Staff was attentive and professional, very accommodating. We can't wait to go back!
"Winter weekend getaway"
01/20/14 Tracy A Thamesford, Canada
Stayed for 3 nights in mid January, was extremely pleased with our stay. Room was so beautiful, Recently upgraded, tasteful, modern but still comfortable. Loved the view. Rooms were kept exceptionally clean. Very quiet and peaceful stay. Walked the trails absolutely stunning! So beautiful with all the trees covered with snow. Would definitely recommend this resort for a getaway. Would love to return in the summer or fall to see the view of the lake in a different season. My husband and I left feeling restful and reconnected...thank you Taboo!
"You must be here at least once in your life."

We stayed at the resort for the weekend to relax before the new year and couldn't have asked for a better accommodation and team. Big thanks to Katrin and Barry for making our stay one for the book! The suite was beautiful, with a little fire place and complimentary logs and since we're in the corner, the ceiling was very high and made the suite feel very spacious. We had our own fully-equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The view was magnificent! The food at both restaurants was delicious. Elements has the best view of the lake and nothing beats enjoying a fresh cup of coffee and delicious omelettes in the morning with that view. Do take advantage of the activities that the resort has to offer, depending on the season. For us, we took the snowmobile to explore the hill, and also went snow skiing. There's everything for every age group. The spa was heavenly. Professional staff, beautiful decor and overall an A+ experience. We can not wait to be back here for our summer and fall retreat!
