Pros: the friendly and helpful staff at front desk, a flawless Wi-fi, and the location. Possible to walk to the Strand (20 min). Minor cons: Rooms a bit on the small side. Our carpet could have been cleaner. We had to change TV remote and change lock on the door (lock failed to work two days in a row - until they finally changed the complete lock). […] Safe is on the floor (meaning you have to crawl on the floor to get to it). Restaurant was missing things on the menu. The only thing you could get with a burger was onion rings. Hotel maid skipped our room the first day, which is not a big deal, but she skipped it again the next, which was a bit hard to understand. We checked in on a Saturday night, apparently before a cruise. We had booked a standard room for 2 adults, but we got a handicapped accessible room with 2 queen beds, on the first floor. I travelled for work in Conroe Mon. through Thurs.and then my husband flew out to meet me on Thurdsay to go to Galveston. We had a great (but quick) time there. We live in New England, so we loved the "tropical" look and feel of the hotel. If we go to Galveston again, this will be the place we stay.

When we first arrived, we were placed in a room directly over the pool area with very loud music being played and that's ok if that's why you're there. We were there to relax and as I was informed that the music would play until 10 pm, I asked to be moved which we were and it turned out fine. At first the desk clerk was very grumpy and not friendly […] at all but when we needed her assistance to move our room and I asked her for more coffee for our room, she was very accomodating..also helped us with the computer in the lobby. The beds were very comfortable. The door leading to the balcony was rusty on the hinges so it was difficult to open the door. The carpet was wet by the refrigerator. The maid was very sweet but didn't speak much English. The restaurant staff was very friendly and the food was very good. Thought the hotel was directly on the beach but it was across the street and wish they would have provided chairs for the beach. Really liked the atmosphere of the hotel. Pool, swim up bar. All very beachy and nice. However.... we checked in and the room was pretty hot. We put the air on and ran errands & came back and the room wasn't any cooler. Requested another room and they were overbooked so that wasn't an option. Maintenance man came, brought us a fan and said it was running […] fine. And changed a sensor. That didn't help. 2 hours later, now 10:00 we went down to the front desk to see what else we could do. Clerk was overwhelmed and called the manager... who told her to get the maintenance man back up to the room. Which they wouldn't do. Eventually manager came from home (he told us that) and had them change the unit out. Things were alittle better come the next morning. But never really "cold". It's unfortunate the service wasn't better, I really enjoyed everything else about this hotel. The only person that was "helpful" was the poor desk clerk the night we checked in. After a long day at the pool we came back to our room to find that we did not need our room key to enter our room. I've never had this happen to me at any hotel I've stayed at, ever! We immediately called the front desk who put in a trouble call to maintenance. THIRTY minutes laters, I called back and had to make the request again. A few minutes later […] the maintenance man arrives and apologizes citing that he is the only maintenance person on the facility at the moment and that he was really busy. *RED FLAG* He fixes the lock and double checks his work and moves on. The following morning when we started moving luggage to our car I checked the handle again and what do you know...I just walked right in, no key needed! For the price you pay to stay at this location I just want peace of mind that when I return to my room all of my belongings will still be there. Another notable mention would be that the pool is either extremely dirty or way too heavily chlorinated. I could not see my feet at the bottom of the pool and it took almost TWO DAYS for my legs to stop itching after I got out of the pool for the last time. It took 45 minutes to check in. Breakfast buffet was supposed to be included in the price of our room. A buffet was not available the for 3 days, we were told to order off the menu. The food was very good, however, the wait staff seemed to be overwhelmed with the few tables in the restaurant. Tables were not cleaned off and ordering took a long time. […] The buffet table was set up with severs, but the lines were dirty. It sat in touched for 3 days. On our 4th morning the buffet was offered, but the same dirty linens that had been there for 4 days were still there and the food looked like it had been there for several hours. I was afraid to eat the eggs. When we went to check out we discovered all 4 days of breakfast had been added to our room. The hotel appeared to be nice on the outside and the rooms were clean, BUT the air conditioner did not work. Our room stayed hot the whole time even when we kept all the doors shut and the blinds closed. They took our towels when they cleaned our room the second day we were there and didn't leave us new ones. We realized this when we went to take a […] shower. When we went down and asked for some they said they didn't have any clean ones and gave us pool towels. They never did bring us any clean towels. The vending machines and washer and dryer took our money. When I went down to the front desk for change they said they didn't have any and sent me to the souvenir store next door. I will not stay at this hotel again. I thought I was getting a nice hotel and usually have good luck with Holiday Inns. Next time I will opt for the Holiday Inn Express or Holiday Inn Resort. After they moved us to the 5th floor we had a great view of the ocean (before they moved us we had no view other than a roof and folige of tree) It was supposed to have a view so I complained to the desk as soon as I saw the first room they gave us. In room coffee was great. They could have used a microwave in the room. The music from the outside bar […] was too loud at night. we were close to alot of different sights to visit but the beach was the real asset! This was an average hotel/motel. It has seen better days, however. For the price I was not disappointed. The elevator was very slow. It had gotten stuck with patrons for over an hour, so, after I heard of that, I took the stairs! I do not recommend the onsite restaurant. Bland and boring fair with unenthusiastic service.

We staid the night before our cruise and upon our return we staid overnight. We were told when we checked out before our cruise since we are priority members they would have us a room ready on Sunday morning or by noon at the latest after the cruise. The girl at the counter was rude, wouldn't store our luggage much less get us a room. Room was not available […] until 3. We were at their mercy because their shuttle was our transportation. So finally they gave us a key to the pool, so being tired we sat by the pool for 5 hrs and they finally put us in a room at 3pm. The AC barely worked and HBO did not work. Could not get the front desk to pick up the phone. So I pressed the options for reservations it went to IHG reservations and they tried to reach them to and could not. We were too tired after 5 hrs in the sun to be running back down to the front desk. So we slept on top of the covers miserably all night. Next day we told them about the issue and they didn't care not even a little bit. While we were sitting waiting on our car to the airport, the manager came in.... then they started offering us drinks and wanting to store out luggage. So when the manager is away the women on the staff are rude and act like you are imposing on them. We paid a ridiculouse rate to stay two nights, comparable to beach hotel prices in Hawaii and service was terrible. We will never stay here again. There is another Holiday Inn resort further down the seawall, that is truly a resort. Read more
