"Upgrade the coffee"
Room was completely adequate, grounds were lovely, but terrible coffee was a major problem. This can be easily remedied with a decent coffee maker and coffee, and it needn't be Nespresso (though I understand some rooms have them).

"We liked it."
We stayed as an add on to a two night break at Warner Littlecote House. A lovely old Georgian house with a nice view. Good evening meal menu. Not fine dining but a good number of choices of steaks, burgers etc. Hotel was very quiet being a Sunday. If you ask about the history of the house, staff will provide this on an A4 sheet of paper. We found the room and bed quite comfortable although a little too warm at night even with the window open. Staff were friendly and polite. Convenient for Highclere Castle, Blenheim Palace and Swindon shopping outlet. We would stay here again.

"An excellent hotel with character, and very helpfu"
An excellent hotel with character, and very helpful staff. Beautiful grounds to wander in. After being cooped up in London, we found this to be just what we needed - safe space for the kids to run around. People who need air conditioning might find the absence of it a problem - but it was a welcome change for us to open the window and get fresh air.

"Hot night"
We only spent one night there with our two grandsons. The room was very hot when we arrived. The sun was on the room with no windows open, which made it difficult to sleep. The room itself was fine. We didn't have breakfast as we had to leave early.

"Clean and comfy, but stay in the old part"
First time back to this place in years (over 25 - it used to do fantastic Sunday lunches) and while it now feels a little Mecur-ified (slightly soulless away from the old part of the house) it's clean and comfy... A reliably sound bed for the night. The only niggle is that the reception desk can be a ghost town. If you arrive/depart outside normal midday hours, expect to have a futile five minutes tracking someone down (with nearby bar staff shrugging shoulders unsupportively)

"Beautiful setting"
A beautiful hotel in a fantastic setting. Our family room was perfect for our stay. The only downside was a shortage of staff on the first evening and we waited a long time in the restaurant while the staff on duty were obviously being stretched. That said, the rest of our stay was a much needed relaxing family break.

"It's ok............."
Lovely grounds and a hotel with some nice features. However Mercure seem to have stamped a sense of 'ordinariness' on it. Rooms generally are bland and a little out of date. Breakfast was uninspiring and often the food was in short supply or allowed to just over-cook on in the warming trays. Poor range of breakfast options and a very ordinary service

"I'd stay again"
Nice hotel for a reasonable price, carpets in communal areas are a little tired looking, but mostly fine. The evening staff were very friendly and kind. The hotel room lacked items such as hand soap, biscuits, hot drink selection, and we only had one large towel and one hand towel between us. (We did not follow up to ask for these things as we were there very late, but felt they should be there automatically). The bed was comfortable (very large!) and the room was clean....They are the main criteria for me! Also, the curtains are blackout which was great!

stayed there previously when able to sit in conservatory and watch the wildlife outside. This has now been made into a very narrow restaurant and is not very comfortable .The food was over priced and very average for the price. We ate out on the second night.Ludo the maitre de was at least pleasant on this visit whilst in the past he has been condescending and quite rude. The changes made have ,in our opinion ,made the hotel less appealing.

"NOT HAPPY, OVER PRICED AND POOR EXPERIANCE."
I don't normally leave a review but this place was an expensive let down. The rooms themselves are no better than any holiday inn or premier inn, the televisions are the same with the exception that the holiday has more free to view choices. the breakfast was simply non-existent, at 9.03 there were no eggs, 3 slivers of overcooked bacon, 6 sausages and no toms. The service was meant to run for at least 30 minutes more and in that time I didn't see any of the non existent food topped up. There was no orange juice or water left and a few inches of apple juice. The lady servicing the coffee spilt some of it on the table, fair enough accidents happen but she didn't even say sorry, well she didn't say anything at all. For £149.00 and another tenner for a bit of toast it was very very poor.

Main course came out while I still eating starter; 2 minutes later they were trying to bring it out again when I clearly still wasn't ready. Staff argued about covering a morning slot loudly and sometimes openly. Nice open space, inside and out; big room. TV reception bad as was choice of channels.

"Nice on the outside. A room lottery inside."
First impressions good- great location, imposing building, pleasant reception. We stayed on a Saturday, and asked to be moved rooms because the wedding disco was too close for sleep. The helpful reception staff duly moved us into the mews block, which whilst quiet, was incredibly musty. So unpleasantly so, that even with the window open all night, you couldn't ignore the smell. The sort of room that, whilst it seemed clean, you didn't feel like having a shower in. On check-out, the reception staff were understanding, and to their credit, did knock a little off the bill. I suspect that there are some nice rooms here, and if you find them, it'd be lovely. A bit of a lottery, though.

"Very poor service"
On checking in, we're told that breakfast will be served at 6:30 the following morning, which fits in with our plans to visit Stonehenge at 9am. So we drag the kids out of bed at 6 to pack and make our way down to the restaurant at 6:30 to be told by 2 members of staff that the other person had obviously made a mistake and forgotten which day it was, and breakfast wouldn't be served until 7:30, which would have us late for Stonehenge. We therefore had to leave and get breakfast on our way (paying a further £20 for something we'd already paid for stuck in the throat a bit...). Would it have been so difficult for these 2 members of staff to sort us out with some milk (the boles and cereal were already out) and stuck some bread in a toaster? They weren't doing anything else, and it is a service industry in which they are working. Still waiting, 2 days later, for a reply to my complaint, too. I will avoid this hotel and chain in the future and would recommend you do the same.

"Not impressed at all"
For the rooms and the hotel in general, from outside impressive, but from inside reminded of Fawlty Towers. Everything was stuck in a kind of timewarp. It was impossible to open the windows and leave open. I had to use a drawer from the desk to keep it open, not good. When arriving there was a reservation of £1.000 put on my card, my charge would have been £200 less than that. I you like the up-the-stairs-down-the-stairs type of hotel and then 3 steep steps up to your room, a card-lock that is only working after several attempts, then this is the place. Adding that the last part of the entry up to the hotel is pebbles, where it is physical impossible to drag your suitcase because the wheels get stuck, just adds to the experience. I will not use or recommend this place to anyone.

"Great value for money"
Very comfortable, luxurious hotel room for a very reasonable price. Only criticism was no lift to get heavy bags up to our first floor room and no help offered to carry everything. There was some noise from a party going on downstairs but it was the Saturday before Christmas so you have to expect it really. Breakfast was very nice and the views from the dinning room are stunning which really adds to the experience.

"very tired hotel in attractive setting"
Never a good idea to stay in a hotel at the same time as a 126-person wedding. But even allowing for that, the food was poor and the service was worse. And the whole place had a very tired, worn-out feel to it. The only contrast was the charming night porter who was very helpful.

"Lovely Location"
Despite its beautiful peaceful location I didn't think this hotel lived up to its 4 star rating. Check in was slow and unprofessional. We were given a room in the Mews, not the main building so when the key cards didn't work had to trail back to reception. Then the handle fell off the wardrobe door as I opened it ! Breakfast was ok but when we asked for 2 poached eggs each we got 1 each and told the second eggs would be out later as the kitchen was busy.
