"room's windows don't open, hot day, small fan"
nice hotel, nice rooms, but on a warm day, you will sweat like crazy.Genuine Expedia guest review
Lovely setting in the country. Room was very spacious. Some woodwork in the bathroom needed some attention. Overall a very nice place with nice grounds and helpful and friendly staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good pick for overnight between Bath and Heathrow"
Beautiful country home with rolling green fields around it. Easy to find... as we approached Newbury after leaving Hungerford, there was a sign with an arrow pointing to Elcot Park. Otherwise it could have been difficult. A large section has been added to this house in the form of conference rooms, hotel rooms, spa areas but happily it has been done […] so not overwhelming from the outside. This was a fine choice for an overnight between Bath and our Heathrow departure the next day. Much nicer than staying in Newbury or Reading. Buffet breakfast in large bright dining room. "A very enjoyable stay!"
Very friendly and welcoming, had responded to our requests for a travel cot and were very helpful in finding us a suitable pram-friendly ground floor room. Very comfy bed, lovely room although a slightly dated bathroom but very clean so no issues. Great room service and breakfast-very enjoyable stay!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Will definitely return!"
We enjoyed the very comfortable Superkingsize bed and the tranquillity of the location. Only met one member of staff- the receptionist - he was very polite and helpful. Good rate for a lovely hotel. Nearby is a great pub/restaurant - the Red House. Would highly recommend both hotel and restaurant.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fab hotel, good value."
Its all good, big old hotel in a great location. Breakfast is freshly prepared & it's all good, served in a nice conservatory.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"If only the service was better"
Main course came out while I still eating starter; 2 minutes later they were trying to bring it out again when I clearly still wasn't ready. Staff argued about covering a morning slot loudly and sometimes openly. Nice open space, inside and out; big room. TV reception bad as was choice of channels.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Would definitely stay again"
A lovely hotel in a brilliant location with very friendly helpful staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very tranquil and relaxing for our overnight stay. Breakfast was very good and served in the conservatory with lovely views over the grounds and parkland. There does seem to be a preference for large groups, wedding parties and conferences etc.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Rooms clean and comfortable, service was very bad due to a large conference, almost non existence. Decor rather tired however gardens were beautifully kept.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice on the outside. A room lottery inside."
First impressions good- great location, imposing building, pleasant reception. We stayed on a Saturday, and asked to be moved rooms because the wedding disco was too close for sleep. The helpful reception staff duly moved us into the mews block, which whilst quiet, was incredibly musty. So unpleasantly so, that even with the window open all night, […] you couldn't ignore the smell. The sort of room that, whilst it seemed clean, you didn't feel like having a shower in. On check-out, the reception staff were understanding, and to their credit, did knock a little off the bill. I suspect that there are some nice rooms here, and if you find them, it'd be lovely. A bit of a lottery, though. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"country hotel with amazing views"
Staying for a few nights on business, this hotel forces you to drive a little out, but it's well worth it. Beautiful views and a tranquil setting to watch bats and rabbits in the evening.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overnight stay to visit highclere castle."
Hotel very nice in pleasant countryside. I asked for a downstairs rm as my mother elderly. This was given. Room was very hot but there was a portable desk fan. Beds comfy and shower was good. Hotel staff all pleasant and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very poor service"
On checking in, we're told that breakfast will be served at 6:30 the following morning, which fits in with our plans to visit Stonehenge at 9am. So we drag the kids out of bed at 6 to pack and make our way down to the restaurant at 6:30 to be told by 2 members of staff that the other person had obviously made a mistake and forgotten which day it was, […] and breakfast wouldn't be served until 7:30, which would have us late for Stonehenge. We therefore had to leave and get breakfast on our way (paying a further £20 for something we'd already paid for stuck in the throat a bit...). Would it have been so difficult for these 2 members of staff to sort us out with some milk (the boles and cereal were already out) and stuck some bread in a toaster? They weren't doing anything else, and it is a service industry in which they are working. Still waiting, 2 days later, for a reply to my complaint, too. I will avoid this hotel and chain in the future and would recommend you do the same. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel good, about average. Restaurant staff appeared untrained and meal was late arriving. Room was clean and adequate Very good breakfast.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not impressed at all"
For the rooms and the hotel in general, from outside impressive, but from inside reminded of Fawlty Towers. Everything was stuck in a kind of timewarp. It was impossible to open the windows and leave open. I had to use a drawer from the desk to keep it open, not good. When arriving there was a reservation of £1.000 put on my card, my charge would have […] been £200 less than that. I you like the up-the-stairs-down-the-stairs type of hotel and then 3 steep steps up to your room, a card-lock that is only working after several attempts, then this is the place. Adding that the last part of the entry up to the hotel is pebbles, where it is physical impossible to drag your suitcase because the wheels get stuck, just adds to the experience. I will not use or recommend this place to anyone. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disappointed with facilities"
Very disappointing stay. Was not told of renovation work prior to booking. Nowhere available to sit and have a drink. Accommodation was not in main part of hotel and room was very dated.Genuine Expedia guest review
Nice location. But really disappointed that the hotel was in 'serious' renovation. Was not warned that is was the case. Had it been the case, I would have selected a different hotel. And the price charged was outrageous when you consider.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

All staff helpful except for Maître d .On this visit and a previous visit he did not make us feel welcome and came over as very stuck up and rude.Suggested we dine at local pub and on previous visit insisted we go away and come back in a half hour after we arrived for dinner a half hour early, rest of staff brilliant, especially Peter and JoaoGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great value for money"
Very comfortable, luxurious hotel room for a very reasonable price. Only criticism was no lift to get heavy bags up to our first floor room and no help offered to carry everything. There was some noise from a party going on downstairs but it was the Saturday before Christmas so you have to expect it really. Breakfast was very nice and the views from […] the dinning room are stunning which really adds to the experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"fantastic location, great ambience, bit run down"
Amazing views, friendly staff. Hotel could do with a deep clean and refit but it didn't seem to matter given the positives.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Only complained hard bed otherwise excellent lovely staffGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Considerate receptionist, positioning us away from two Christmas parties, however, the room in The Mews was not 4* standard and not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. Recommend you stay in the main hotel, not the outbuilding.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We booked two rooms, only one reserved.papers booked but not actioned over a two night stay.Breakfast shortages of food on both occasions. On leaving the hotel tried to charge for b/fast, when we had prepaid.Bar closes at 11pm. Service was in short very poor indeedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"very tired hotel in attractive setting"
Never a good idea to stay in a hotel at the same time as a 126-person wedding. But even allowing for that, the food was poor and the service was worse. And the whole place had a very tired, worn-out feel to it. The only contrast was the charming night porter who was very helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pleasant setting for a hotel"
We had a very enjoyable couple of nights at the hotel which was set in its own grounds with relaxing views across the country side. Very near to Hungerford town which has a few interesting antique shops.Genuine Expedia guest review
The staff were so kind and friendly and each and every one of them went the extra mile during my stay. It was noticeable how much more professional and friendly they were compared to the standard polite service you normally get in a hotel. Super job Mecure Elcott Park team.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Pretty pleased with everything at the hotel and surroundings.. :) Great Place even for leisure.. :) Had a lovely time, especially with the Sun.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Room in Mews was very basic but quiet. Room in main hotel was better quality.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Country place, ideal business too"
Pretty country place, good location.. Food can be a bit better given the grander scale of the place. A little far from Newbury. But should definitely be checked out. Id be returningGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Despite its beautiful peaceful location I didn't think this hotel lived up to its 4 star rating. Check in was slow and unprofessional. We were given a room in the Mews, not the main building so when the key cards didn't work had to trail back to reception. Then the handle fell off the wardrobe door as I opened it ! Breakfast was ok but when we asked […] for 2 poached eggs each we got 1 each and told the second eggs would be out later as the kitchen was busy. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A good experience"
I couldn't work out how to phone from one room to another which was a little frustrating at the time. I resorted to communicating via mobile phone. The rooms were clean and comfortable and quiet. Our bathroom was enormous. The general decor and setting was very pleasant. I love the older buildings. The staff were pleasant and helpful. I didn't have […] breakfast there but other family members did and said it was very good. We only spent one night there but I would be happy to return. The car park had plenty of parking spaces. The hotel had problems with their system and had overbooked for Easter which did not affect our booking as much as my dad who had booked to stay on for another night and couldn't. We also ended up in a smaller room than that we had booked. Aside from that the rooms were clean and nice, lovely building and lovely setting. The restaurant menu wasn't that […] inspiring to look at but the food turned out to be delicious. Overall, not bad value for money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"We would be willing to stay here again."
We had a great time staying here, with every aspect of the stay meeting (and even exceeding in places) our expectations. In addition to being a lovely place to stay the staff were extremely polite and courteous and the evening meal was delicious. We have no doubt that we would be willing to stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
The Hotel is in great location and is a beautiful building with a great outlook. However the management if very poor we booked a “Superior” room, that was very, very noisy near the nightclub for a wedding reception, I then complained and was moved to a “Standard” room in the old part of the hotel, that was both quiet and I felt better in look and feel […] than the first room. The food in the restaurant was very poor (the microwave obviously gets lots of work) and not in keeping with the surroundings. Such a shame that this hotel chain have cut every corner, to try to save money and spoilt what could be a fantastic hotel. I did complain again on checkout, but the staff were just not interested, hence this poor review. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Avoid at all costs when there are weddings on!"
We had a room booked for 2 adults and 2 children (0 and 2). Our room was right above the function room, where there was a wedding on. With no cot in the room for our baby (only an incredibly uncomfortable fold out bed - we moved this to the floor for our baby to sleep) and thumping music until 12.30pm it took us till about 3 am to get our children settled. […] Possibly the worst nights sleep I have had in a long while! I have no qualms with being in a hotel which hosts weddings, just think the managers need to think carefully about where other people stay, so they are not bothered by the noise. Don't think I'll be hurrying back! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel needs investment"
This hotel is starting to look tired and in need of refurbishment, the Spa area is adequate but not an area that you would be able to relax comfortably in feeling that you were in a luxury environment.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
