It was a short stay, but everything I needed was there. It is a very quiet place. Just that it is quite a distance to walk to the nearest supermarket.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable and quiet"

Tucked away in a suburban street in Barton, the Brassey is a 15-minute walk from Parliament House. The hotel is tidy and unfussy but the 1990s panelled wood with brass fittings is looking a little tired. The bathroom has Victorian style tiles and toilet and was let down by mouldy grout in the shower. A few new pictures around the place would freshen the look. Pros Firm mattress Spacious shower with good water pressure Wardrobe and fridge in separate area so sleeping area can be bag free Soap dispenser in shower (less wasteful) Magnifying mirror in bathroom Free newspaper every morning Cons Mouldy grout in shower Only one available powerpoint near desk at floor level Internet $10 a day Cups (not mugs) for teamaking No full-length mirror
"Great character. Great food"

The hotel reminded me of an English country estate. It had old fashioned styling and was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient. If you want modern facilities then this place will disappoint you as most of the bedroom and bathroom appeared old and tired. However, if you like character, then this hotel is perfect. The rooms are overpriced compared to most hotels, but there are good facilities nearby and the grounds are very relaxing. It is well worth trying.
"Average - will go elsewhere next time."

Stayed her two nights on recent business trip. Nice and close to parliamentary Triangle and also Kingston/Manuka shopping and restaurants. An older building renovated with smallish rooms/ensuites. The reception staff could have been friendlier - on a Sunday evening we encountered somebody behind reception who was only to eager to say she was new and could not help us with ideas on where to go for dinner, what conference room our conference would be in the next day etc. Breakfast buffet was good and we had a conference dinner in the restaurant on one evening that was very very good. I had lots of trouble accessing my wireless internet inside the building - poss due to older style brick building etc. Due to the nature of the older building, I found the place a little noisy and you would always hear people walking down the hall outside your room. Overall, a reasonable option but unsure I will go back. There are better value places around.

"Friendly service. Convenient. "

Clean and friendly. Convenient location for that side of town. Easy walk to shops. Close to nice running tracks. Rooms are a good size. Breakfast was enjoyable with your usual travellers breakfast buffet selection. All very fresh though. Pillows were a bit worn (all 4 in my room and at least one other of the group travelling made the same comment) and the only bad bit was the noise of the shower in the room above me dripping. Would stay again for convenience and breakfast. We had a good B&B rate which made it cost effective for mid-week in Canberra.
"A Canberra institution"

Stayed here for two nights for business. Got a good rate that included breakfast. Arrived on a stinking hot Canberra day, the aircon was on and my room was nice and cool. The hotel is old but has been nicely refurbished and was fine for a short stay with little time spent in the room. Lots of things close by, you just need to look them up, at first glance there seems to be nothing nearby. There are lots of other similar hotels and clubs tucked away if you know where to look. Would stay here agin.

Another great stay at The Brassey. Cheerful check in and help with a query of ours from front of house staff. A suggestion for improvement would be some fly screens on the windows of rooms that no longer have them, to allow the evening breeze in.
"Not recommended as a function venue"
12/17/13 Darsey1234 Canberra, Australia
I booked a corporate function with the Brassey, and while the event itself was good, the booking, organisating, and coordination in the lead up to the event was terrible. The Brassey failed to explain all charges and were extremely slow to respond to my queries. I was charged for items I was not expecting to be charged for, and when I gave my feedback to the general manager asking for these charges to be removed he was extremely unhelpful and dismissive. I will not be using this facility again and I do not recommend it.
"Good convenient location"

The Brassey is a grand old boutique hotel. Yes it might have creaky stairs and some narrow corridors but has a charm of its own. I've stayed several times for business and would recommend it to other travellers. It is conveniently located within easy walking distance to the Parliament House precinct, National and Portrait gallerys as well as to Manuka restaurants and shops. It's only a short taxi ride into the CBD. The location is quiet and the gardens surrounding the hotel are lovely. The Heritage Rooms all have traditional touches which does make it a bit more special than staying in a generic hotel room. Rooms are a good size and clean and well-maintained. If you choose the dine-in option for dinner there is a reasonable selection of meals - including a couple of vegetarian options. Breakfast is substantial. Staff are friendly and helpful. If you don't stay there wih expectations that it will feel and sound like a new hotel your stay will be enjoyable.
"This Hotel needs serious cleaning"
11/28/13 Roddam2013 Perth, Australia
Hotel rooms are dirty, you cannot see out of the windows when the sun shines on them, have not been cleaned in ages. Rooms are covered in dust, we had to clean all shelves so we could put our clothes out. You can write your name on everything in the room due to the thick dust. Doors, window sills, skirting boards are filthy with thick dirt on all the groves and ledges, this is years of dirt. Fridge is frozen solid , you cannot open the ice box. Floors were never vacuumed during our four day stay, we know as we spilt a little talcom powder on the carpet on the first day, it was still there when we left. Some days they would forget to make the beds !!!!! Clearly there is no supervision or management in this Hotel. Our friends had the same complaint, so they requested a room change, just to get another dirty room. Bathrooms are minute, that said rooms are of a good size and there is a good hot water supply.
