Dated. Noisy: first floor room literally on Thames. Up all night with revelers and noise on the cobblestone. Uncomfortable beds that smelled odd. Sheets and towels yellowed with age.

NB: This is for an early spring (off-season) stay. The manager Esteban is terrific. He even emailed/called me a few times to be sure he was there when I arrived. I stayed here for business and they offered to let me to have my meeting in the lovely sitting area/lobby along with an generous continental breakfast spread of little cheese omelets, fruit, […] muffins, pastries, etc. the following morning. (The melon/strawberries were surprisingly good.) My room was very comfortable though since it faces Thames I would worry about street noise if I stayed that room in the summer--for winter it was great. WiFi service is okay as long as you make sure you log onto THEIR signal and not others in the area. I was able to park in the lot next door for free, but I am sure that is just until summer. Esteban sent me to a very good Mexican restaurant Perro Salado hidde away on a side street (off Washington on Charles) and I highly recommend it. Also take a walk around the block to visit the new Island Books on Spring Street! Read more

Stayed for St Patricks day parade and what a nice place. It was close to the parade route. The breakfast spread was incredible. The buildings are historic and nicely furnished. The staff was friendly and polite. Over all a great place to stay I recommend it

The rooms and the hotel are overdue for a refresh. While the location was convenient we were caught off guard by the level of street noise and how low the room was to the street. Walkers were literally looking in our window!

Our room was really nice. Just need to update the beds, and head boards, because they were outdated and the headboard bounced against the wall every time you move making an annoying noise. Room was clean, free breakfast was above average for a continental breakfast. Location was perfect.

This is a wonderful inn (1848). It is just steps off of the main thoroughfare in Newport. Close to shops and restaurants. Cozy room, but a tad small. Breakfast table had 31 individual dishes with delicious offerings. It was worth photographing. Would stay again.

This hotel is right in the centre, you can walk to everything, the only downside is no parking. We were able to park next door at no cost in low season.

Booked Atlantic Cup at the last minute. Requested the 1 bedroom suite - great size, very comfortable. My only complaint is that the Inn bills itself as having wireless internet. But fails to mention that the suites are in a building up the street that doesn't have it. It was an issue as both of us needed to do work and had to do it in the breakfast […] room each morning in the main building. But, since the breakfast was quite good for a continental breakfast (mini-cheese omelets, fresh fruit, rice pudding, etc) it wasn't a huge problem, just an annoyance. Read more

We were very happy in this hotel/inn. We were on the 2nd floor in room 204 which had a little dressing area and two double beds. Good size room facing the street. No noise at all. Breakfast was lovely and staff friendly. Would go there again and recommend to friends.

Greeted very warmly. Felt completely at home. Room was lovely and spotless. You can walk out the door to all the piers and shops and very good restaurants. Easy parking. Though a hike to the mansions, quite doable - and we did! Great hotel for a couple.

All the pluses and minuses of staying in an old New England Inn. Be ready for the stairs and short walk to lot. Clean. Good breakfast. Right in the tourist section so you can walk to everything. If you are not "high maintenance" and see the coolness, it is as advertised.

The hotel has a warm bed and breakfast feel although not modernized but still very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the breakfast and the paid parking across the street was convenient. Hotel is in the perfect spot to explore downtown newport as you can walk to all the shops and restaurants.

The Inn was an unexpected treat given the relatively low rating. We had Room 105 which was the corner room on the street level. It was very large and very pleasant with two large windows that opened on to Thames and Mary Streets. Great to watch the tourists parade by. I had expected that the room would be very noisy given the street level location, […] but it was dead silent all night long. The location is fantastic with easy walking distance to most attractions and discounted parking available across the street. My husband and 6 year old son and I enjoyed our stay at the Inn. We have stayed at other inns and found the American Cup very clean, front desk staff very accomodating especially Tony, wide variety of food offered on the breakfast buffet and great location to experience Newport by foot.

Everything was okay except I wrote down that there are a few things that had to be repaired. IE the rug needed stretching, the bathroom tissue holder needed repairing, they needed kleenex, the window shade needs repairing.

The hotel could use a renovation. The front desk staff is superb, but the cleaning uservice could use a little brief. They did not leave soap or towels one day. Location is fabulous. There is no staff to bring bags up the stairs so pack lightly.

For the location and price, it was a good value. The room was very small, but big enough for two. The $18/day parking was a bit of a surprise. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean except for the carpet. The breakfast was surprisingly good.
