Everything from the staff to the pool temp was very nice. The room service was on point. The Bar has the best bartenders that I could of imagine.

The hotel and food was not what I expected, the beach was full of rocks and barely anyone was able to go in it due to the uncomfortableness of the rocks poking your feet.

I have stayed at this hotel and its sister hotel (Riu Merengue) several times. Both are located next door and share the same "beautiful" beach and many ameneties. In fact guests seem to be able to go between them at will. This one is little more expensive, only difference i can see is that there is a Casino/disco at Bachata, some rooms are closer to […] the beach, and also there is free alcohol mini bar in rooms (but its the cheap alcohol). Seems to be a more mature (older) crowd also. Most of the entertainment is soso, but the magic show is a must see !!! These hotels are my favorite getwaway. I usually avoid the activities (there are quite a few) and just "chill out". All access is controlled by very secure security gate. Taxis use standard rates (seem a bit expensive). The only thing bothered me about last trip is that the staff made a VERY BIG DEAL about me bringing food from the buffet to my room, and insisted I eat there (there is no room service). Not what i would expect from a hotel/resort who claims to cater to its guests. Other than that, always a nice relaxing stay. Read more

If you want a holiday that is a total party experience then this is a great place, but a quiet day by the pool/beach with a book was just as available. The staff were friendly and helpful and it was not difficult to stay away from the 'pool party' at the bar if you wanted a little less noise. The shows were entertaining and the surroundings well manicured. […] The food was well presented and an exellent variety. The 'restaurants' were a little disapointing on both atmosphere and menu. We upgraded to the king room and our bed was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept on. The concave dip in the matress was visible and we could feel the springs. The thin sheet over the waterproof pad on the matress added to our discomfort. Our balcony didn't get any sun at all and our room always felt damp with a light dampish odor. We tried to open the door as much as we could, but on the ground floor we felt security was more important than airing out the room. I thought it strange that consistently clean towels were not available until late afternoon #5pm# and delivered still warm unfolded from being laundered. The entire hotel is very clean and the public area's were constantly being attended. Ashtrays were emptied, glasses/cups cleared and floors wiped ALL DAY LONG. As non-smokers we were hardly aware of the many smokers around us. Overall this would be a brilliant holiday for anyone, but the beds and linens do need to be upgraded. Great vacation. Good thing i didn't depend on the past guests reviews because i had a great time. Hotel is beautiful, food is great and drinks were good as well. They don't carry all types of liqueur though! Rooms were clean, friendly staff and they made you feel very comfortable. Entertainment was so so. The hotel served the same food everyday. Local calls were charged almost a dollar per minute and if the call didn't go thru you will still get charge $24 pesos (ridiculous). This was never explained in the first place and I ended up with a $61 dollar bill at the end. There is no kids pool. The one they have look like a jacussi... HORRIBLE!!! They had reservations for Italian restaurant, very dissapointed to find out there was no pasta on the 3 main course. The staff was great at helping us contact the airport when our luggage was lost. Most staff spoke pretty good English. The pool and beach were absolutely fantastic. The onsite pharmacy was helpful to us when my husband got food poisoning (from an in-town restaurant).

Terrible service! If you can choose another hotel for you stay, please do. Keep in mind that you are going to pay extra to hotel staff in order to get reservations at the restaurants (all inclusive does not mean you are going to be able to get reservations at the restaurants other than the buffet if you dont pay the staff). You will have to "make a […] deposit" for most commun things (iron/ironboard $40 each, have to return it everyday in order to "rent it" again). Our room didn't have AC, the technician "fixed it", but as per him just won't work in the morning or early afternoon. Do not change money at the hotel! and if you pay in dollars, make sure you get your change in dollars and not in "pesos" or you will get way less. Oh, and don't ever forget your towel at the pool or left it unattended; the guy at the towels change will try to get money from you in order to replace the towels.Theres many things to do in Puerto Plata (tours), just keep in mind that you will have to "tip and tip and tip again" in order to get what you paid already and be confortable. I booked a 10 day trip to this hotel, I had my 5 year old daughter and my husband with me. Must say the entertainment team for the hotel goes above and beyond to make it a fun experience. My 5 year old had a blast! I went with very low expectation for the all inclusive deal, most of the resorts have horrible food. Nice hotel. Took several phones calls to get an extra bed, then another call for additional towels, blanket and pillow. Plus, air conditioning went out and the solution was to turn the temperature as low as possible (which only worked half the night). All in all, it was a nice stay and the food was okay.

Beautiful grounds, good amenities, decent food, safe area, accommodating staff... I stayed at this resort in an ocean view room with a terrace in the 300 building (great location- close to one of the restaurant/snack areas, pool, beach, and not far from the main lobby and buffet, etc.) Bottled water is available and the ones in the mini-bar can be […] refilled at the restaurants. I speak some Spanish and believe it contributed to the enjoyment of this trip, however almost all of the staff spoke English relatively well. I left housekeeping some small perfume samples and cash tips and they left hibiscus flowers all over my room, made a swan out of a towel, in addition to cleaning my room each day. Although it's an all-inclusive resort, I recommend tipping everyone. I did this and believe my overall experience was better for it. The club was disappointing, but perhaps I got there too early in the evening. WiFi reception was EXTREMELY difficult to connect to via my BlackBerry. I did two excursions- Ocean World where I swam with the dolphins and had a sea lion encounter, and also an ATV excursion through the countryside to a Haitian transplant village and a bay. I set up both with the Blue Travel/Expedia rep because they're insured and everything is on the up-and-up with them. Both were a great time- but if you go ATV-ing, bring goggles/sport sunglasses and a bandanna for your face or you'll have to buy the latter there. Bring surf shoes, bug spray, and a plug converter.
