Dickenson Bay Cottages - Antigua and Barbuda

I liked the cottage. It was quiet clean and a good location for me. It was very near Dickenson's Bay. I think you would need a car for ease of transport. The car rental is cheap in Antigua. Otherwise there are lots of taxis around. Dickenson's Bay is rated one of the top beaches in Antigua. The staff was very nice and handled all my needs.

With 2 levels our bedroom was in the loft space and was somewhat private much better than a 1 bedroom hotel room.with 2 queen beds. With kids this allows privacy for the parents. Spacious and full kitchen what more can you ask for?

We spent one week here and we selected the one bedroom cottage since we were on our honeymoon.Upon our arrival we found a huge and beautiful basket full of tropical fruits and fresh flowers. It's just, small.We had a couple of issues that were immediately resolved by management.One was the water pump was not working, so no pressure in the bathroom for shower and one was the door was jammed closed so no way to get in.Again, the management took care of it immediately. One small thing that we did not like was those water pumps in the closet by the kitchen, those are a little noisy so at night that can be a problem. I could sleep because i always do but my wife woke up several times because of that. Also, the beds are not queen so are a little small.Overall, we had a very good time, we would recommend it and we would use it again. For the price we paid it was a nice stay. Pros: the roominess, the patio, the kitchen, the management. Cons: the water pumps, the size of the bed. Read more

I recently stayed at Dickenson Bay Cottages in Antigua and have to say it was exactly as I had expected from research. It is a very quaint property of one and 2 bedroom cottages and is only a 7 minute walk down to a beautiful beach. Antigua is very affordable if you stay at a self catered hotel but take note that the closest grocery store is a 10 minute […] drive / 30minute walk away. I would suggest to rent a car because the private bus system is very strange and cabs can tend to be expensive. There is a small pool to cool down in after a hot day of sight seeing. My 1 bedroom loft was had a colonial feeling with high ceiling, big fans and most important was very clean. Great TV channels, so I didn't miss any Canuck Playoff Games, and free wireless internet if you book your flight through Expedia. I took a very challenging bike tour to the top of one of Antigua's highest peaks with Omoro James, an ex-Commonwealth Games cyclist, and his Detour Bike Tours. I went on the most difficult tour to Fort George which gave an incredible view of Falmouth and English Harbour. All in All Dickenson Bay Cottages was the ideal place to stay for the budget minded traveler with high standards. Read more

The cottage I stayed in overlooked the pool and was very convenient. The cottage was very clean and very well maintained. The only issue was with the air conditioning, which, if set too low (25 C), would start to sound like a freight train at some point in the middle of the night. If it was set higher (27 C), the AC would kick off earlier in the night […] because it was cool outside and this would not be a problem. Other than this minor issue, the fully equipped and furnished cottage was very comfortable, clean, and convenient. The kitchen has every appliance you might need, including a refrigerator, a stove, and a microwave, and the refrigerator included a large bottle of water. I would recommend ignoring any sign that advises that the tap water "may be safe to drink," and purchase bottled water from either the front desk or the supermarket that is a five-minute drive down the road towards St. John's. The cottage has a fully furnished living room, with a couch that converts into a bed. The bedroom is also fully furnished with dressers and a very comfortable bed with new, fluffy pillows. The entire place is beautifully landscaped and everyone is friendly and helpful. The beach is a 10-minute walk down the hill on a gently sloping road. The airport is 20 minutes away on a relatively well-maintained road. This is a great place to stay. Read more

After an outstanding week at the Nonsuch Bay Resort, a one-night hotel was required to catch departing flight. At $202 CAD (incl tax) for one night, this hotel was not value for money. No local restaurant for breakfast (although an excellent across-the-street dinner venue). Access to the beach was via a two-block walk on an unlit steep road without […] sidewalk, past the overflowing garbage dumpster of Sandals Resort. Bathroom had a toilet that took forever to flush, and no plug-ins for hairdryer. Bed was uncomfortably hard (factor for the over-50s) and an ancient 17" TV. In-room noisy water pump. Pool, while nice, was small. Taxi to airport that was called by the staff, appeared on time and then disappeared for another call. Driver's sullen wife #no wonder# arrived about ten minutes later to take us to the airport. While quiet #only three other rooms occupied#, this hotel is not value for the money spent. Read more

Located 10 minutes away from Dickenson bay beach (a very nice beach but nowdays already bussy, expencive umbrellas, water scooters and other modern beach amenities), with a nice garden. We chose Dickenson Bay Cottages because we didn't want an all-inclusive hotel deal, preferring to choose where to eat and drink as we travelled around the island. The 'cottages' are fine (if a little tired around the edges) - but don't expect a thatched roof and picket fence here. Generally I'd say that Barbados is more developed as a destination (which is probably a mix of good and not so good), and the people a bit smilier and the public transport a lot better, but we'd go back to Antigua - it's a fascinating mix with some great beaches and a lot of pride and potential. Perfekt ställe att bo på om du vill ha ett boende med möjlighet att laga mat och samtidigt nära till strand mm. Man har satsat stort på trädgård och trivsel på området, riktigt mysigt! Rummen eller skall man kalla dem lägenheter kanske, är rymliga och har allt du behöver i köksväg. Eftersom det på ön är vanligt med elavbrott känns det tryggt då hotellet […] har eget kraftverk. Man samlar dessutom egen vatten som kloreras och är fullt drickbart för oss som är vana vid svenskt vatten. Att gå till stranden tar ca 5-10min och är 100meter bort, är bara en nerförsbacke dit... Vill du hyra bil har de väldigt bra kontakt med en lokal biluthyrare. Säg bara till när du vill ha bilen så kommer ägaren av firman och hämtar upp dig och kör dig till sitt kontor för lite pappersarbete. Du behöver ett tillfälligt körkort som kostar 50XCD. Parkering har du gratis i direkt anslutning till hotellet. Ett bra tips är att skaffa bil på Antigua. Du behöver bilen för att kunna upptäcka allt! Att köra tvärs över ön tar ca 30-40min beroende på väg så det är enkelt! Se upp för alla hål i vägen bara! Att köra till närmsta stormarknad (i storlek ICA MAXI) tar ca 5-10min och är perfekt alternativ om du behöver köpa mat! Här finns ALLT! Lägenheterna har stora altaner med bord och stolar för alla. Perfekt att sitta ute här och äta sin frukost. Personalen är väldigt vänlig och ordnar allt möjligt för dig, även när enkla problem dyker upp. Vi kommer absolut bo här igen nästa gång! Read more

Hotellet ligger i gåavstand ca 10 min. fra en av de beste strendene på Antigua. Litt langt til det nærmeste supermarkedet ca 25 min. gåtur. Hotellet har et hyggelig og velstelt bassengområde. Gjesterommene er enkle og fine. Stedet passer både for par og barnefamilier.
