"Fabulous Stay in Cape May"
My husband and I just returned from Cape May where we stayed at Peter Shield's Inn. The inn is in a quieter section on Beach Ave. and was right across from the beach. There is also a comfort station right there as well, which was wonderful. One didn't have far to go to use a restroom while on the beach. The inn it self was beautiful and well maintained […] as well as the rooms, which were lovely. The only concern we encountered are the matresses are very high off the ground, which could be an issue for someone with leg, knee or hip problems... my husband who is 6'4" could not rest his feet flush to the ground. This didn't deter me ... I loved the inn so much, I would bring a step stool, lol! We also ate at the resturant, which was wonderul the food was cooked perfectly and arranged professionally on the plate. We took advantage of the early seating fixed price menu, which cost $40.00. Bridget, Meg and all the staff were so kind and helpful in everyway. So don't be afraid to ask them any questions you might have. Two services the inn offers which my husband liked very much was the free 24-hour beverage and snack room and the daily free wine and cheese at 4:30 PM. The latter helped you meet other guests... it was a great ice breaker for conversation. We really loved our stay and would recommend it highly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Amazing staff, breakfast was fabulous and the the extras made this inn top notch. Loved it!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Beach Location"
We really liked the location of the B&B. The breakfast in the morning was very good with a full menu. The beach was right across the street and the downtown shopping and resturant area was an easy mile walk ( we did it several times ). The Inn is older victorian and parking is provided off the street. Lots of extras provided including bikes and beach […] towels at no charge. Very warm when we were there, a/c was a necessary item all night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Across the street from the beach. Wine and cheese cocktail hour daily. Breakfast on the screened in porch while watching dolphins swim by. The cocktails and breakfast were included in the price. Service was excellent. Room was spacious...clean.....with private bath. A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO STAY IN CAPE MAY!!!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Inn with a glitch or two"
The hotel staff were accommodating and really friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived the rooms are lovely and there are wonderful places to sit and enjoy the ocean view or meet other guests There is a 24-hour hospitality room well stocked with coffee, snacks, soft drinks. The only issue we had was that the central A/C unit was not working and […] the window unit that temporarily replaced it meant that the only window in the room was unable to be opened - no fresh sea breeze available at all. It was really a little claustrophobic given that we had the smallest room in the place. The bed was also extremely soft. The room was expensive - this is not a bargain by any definition, but the inn was sold out and there were no other solutions than to grin and bear it. Decor was attractive though and the restaurant was very good, with well prepared seasonal cuisine and service. No liquor license tho you can bring your own This is NOT a place for kids Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Charming bed and breakfast, with excellent staff, and out of this world dinning. They provided us with beach chairs, towels, and umbrella. We loved walking the short distance to the beach and wine and cheese at 5pm.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Perfect for a romantic getaway"
I took my girlfriend here for a surprise birthday weekend getaway. I never write reviews, but I feel compelled to write one for the Peter Shields Inn. The hotel is charming. The staff is friendly, helpful and efficient. The food -- including the breakfast offerings -- is first rate. Beach access is right across the street, and the hotel provides beach […] chairs and umbrellas. Also, no need to rent bikes -- the hotel has its own that you can use. There is also a lounge stocked with free snacks, coffee, tea and soda that's open 24 hours. Enjoy the free wine and cheese served daily at 4:30. And do yourself a favor: Book a dinner reservation. You won't be disappointed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This inn is really charming. The staff are all friendly. There are generous amenities, such as free snack of many varieties, free beach equipment and bicycles. There was a pianist in the evening playing beautiful standards. The overall feeling is one of fine relaxation. This hotel really knows how to spoil you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ocean Front View of Cape May"
This B&B offers great rooms, service, and a good location. The rooms were very pricy but provided a top notch stay in every aspect. We had a great time. Bikes, beach towels were provided but if you just wanted to relax on one of the porches looking out at the Atlantic that was also available. Nice touch with a PM wine / cheese tasting. Great breakfast. […] Onsite free parking. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Wonderful relaxing location on the beech!"
We were very excited to spend a few days in Cape May since we vacationed in the area years ago. So exciting to see all the new places and how clean and well kept everything was. Peter Shield's was wonderful and such a beautiful old home in the perfect location in Cape May which is the Best Seaside Resort on the East Coast. It truly is a little Paradise […] and should be a must see on everyones to-do list!!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Staff was very attentive. Breakfast was fine and snacks are available 24 hrs a day. Furnishings are either antique or antique in design. The only drawback is lack of consideration aobut noise by other guests who on the floor above you.Genuine Expedia guest review

What a great place for a special occasion. The atmosphere is cozy, location is just across from the beach & the rooms are clean. A little pricey but worth every penny. They provide beach chairs, towels & bikes. You can also use their basement bathroom to change after you check out. The property is old but remodeled and you can hear other guests in the halls but it is the place to be if you want to have a special weekend away.
"Always a joy to stay there"

We stay at the Peter Shields Inn at least twice a year. The service is excellent. The rooms have all been redone with a mix of old and new. The owner Jeff and all his staff are so friendly and accommodating. The Inn is located right across from the beach and offers an excellent menu in its restaurant. There are chairs and umbrellas available to guests to use on the beach. If you are looking for a quiet getaway I highly recommend you try it.
"Surprise birthday weekend"

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful B&B for a long weekend in August. It is located right across the street from the beach. They provide towels, umbrellas and chairs. The inn is very romantic, perfect for a special getaway. The staff can't do enough for you, they try and see that any requests you might have can be accommodated. Breakfast is very relaxing, no one rushes you. There is a variety of fresh fruit and other morning favorites available. Dinner was phenomenal, everything we ordered was delicious.
""The Stately and Delicious Peter Shields INN""
08/18/14 LEDR Columbus, New Jersey
We just returned from a restful and delicious weekend stay at the Peter Shields Inn, Cape May, New Jersey. The Inn, which is located directly across the street from the beach,is both inside and outside, a stately classic bed and breakfast. The Inn offers a total of nine (9) well appointed rooms situated on the second and third floors. We booked room 3 on the second floor, (nicely furnished with a king sized bed, gas fire place, flat screen HDTV, built-in self controlled A/C-Heater, private bath with Jacuzzi tub/ shower, evening turn down service) which was quite comfortable. The second floor lobby, with comfy seating, serves as the daily late afternoon (4:30- 6:30pm) wine, cheese and fresh cut fruit service area. Tuck away on the third floor is a pantry where you will find (all day and night) snacks and cold/ hot beverages. Off the first floor lobby are a number of intimate, distinctive dining areas and at 5pm the Inn becomes The Peter Shields Restaurant. This fine dining (BYOB) restaurant is open to the public and on our first evening we enjoyed a most delicious dinner in the Inn's screened-porch dining room with an ocean front view. Please note a dinner reservation is highly recommended. Each morning we were served a tasty hearty full breakfast from a limited menu and a self service table of fresh cut fruit, juices, muffins and yogurt parfaits. Finally, top on the Inn's list of treasures was Brigette, the Inn' hospitable manager who was simply wonderful!
"Peaceful and relaxing"

Beautiful view of the ocean, breakfast on screened in porch was outstanding! Chairs, towels and umbrellas for the beach, as well as bikes. Piano music during dinner, very comfortable. My only problem...plastic covering on the mattress and ill fitting sheets. The plastic is very uncomfortable, and the sheets don't stay on the mattress. I expected more for the price. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

We stayed at the Peter Shields Inn last weekend for two nights and it was just wonderful. Beautifully appointed rooms with large private baths and turndown services; nice extras for summer guests include bicycles, beach chairs, umbrellas and towels. We dined there one night and the food was delicious, plentiful and presented well. BYOB, too. Bridgette and her staff were gracious and helpful throughout our stay. Overnight guests can enjoy breakfast from a menu on the porch with a view of the ocean. Guests can also enjoy a nice assortment of cheeses and wines at 4pm. We are hoping to return in the winter when we can discover Cape May Christmas activities. Note: If you ask for room 1 or 2 (like we did) you are on the same floor as a lovely, ocean-front terrace where you can enjoy the 4pm wine and cheese (also served on this floor.)

We spent three nights at the Peter Shields Inn and every aspect of our stay was delightful. From the beautiful room with a great ocean view to the wine & cheese snacks each afternoon, to the piano music in the evenings and the full, custom breakfasts on the screened porch in the mornings, we couldn't have asked for better. The staff was so helpful and cheerful, too, and the location was perfect - close enough to beach and commercial amenities to walk, but far enough away from the main hub of Cape May to be quiet and uncrowded. We'll definitely return! The only thing to note is that there is no elevator and the steps are steep, so this isn't a suitable hotel for those with mobility limitations.
"Superb Peter Shields Inn"
07/03/14 Ronald490 Chappaqua, New York
2-night stay at the beginning of July, 2014: Peaceful, well-appointed Room #8 on 3rd floor. Excellent breakfasts and dinners (hanger steak/chicken/salmon and all salads & desserts very good. The Inn supports a local winery only, or BYOB (liquor store about 1 block away). Super-helpful staff. Reserved parking for each guest room. Beautiful, sandy beach directly across the street -- nice views from front porch & second floor balcony. Wine & cheese from 4:30pm - 6pm or so. Live piano music almost every night for dinner. Beach towels, chairs & umbrellas available, no charge. Bicycles, with helmets & locks, available, no charge, so can get around town without a car. It was a little pricey (especially with the 14% NJ State hotel tax), but they made our stay so easy.
"Great beach location away from busier part of town."
06/28/14 SydneyHills10 New Jersey
My husband and I stayed here on a sold out night in room 8. Bridget, at check in was very nice, helpful and informative. Our room was ready on time. I chose this 3rd floor room for optimal quiet. The room was pretty and clean. The bathroom, well, was small and unimpressive. The tub/shower enclosure is bath fitter not really representative of a b&b and didn't appear as crisp and clean as the actual room did. We had complimentary use of the bikes, beach towels, chairs and umbrellas. Great touch! I do think they should also supply beach tags. We enjoyed the small wine, cheese and fruit in the late afternoon. We also enjoyed the snack room with its delicious homemade cookies and other snacks. Overnight I heard the people in the room across from us unlocking their door numerous times. It sounded like they were in our room. I was promptly awoken at 530am by the birds at our window. Headed to breakfast which was very good. Used the bikes once more then checked out. It was a very nice stay and we really don't have any complaints. We will probably explore other b&b's in the future but I still recommend this place. You can't beat being directing across from beach access.

My husband and I stayed here for a few annual trips to Cape May. The inn is beautiful, and the staff is wonderful. And I loved the afternoon wine and cheese and the breakfasts served. They were so enjoyable. The down sides though, are what made us move to La Mer next door for our subsequent Cape May trips. We paid extra for the Jacuzzi tub and fireplace in our room, but they wouldn't turn the gas on for the fireplace because they said it wasn't cold enough. We go in October! The evenings were definitely chilly enough to substantiate the fireplace. And since we paid extra for the room with the fireplace, I would expect to be able to use it. There is also a cute little balcony outside the two highest priced rooms, but the inn hosts so many weddings and events, the balcony is usually occupied by something associated with one of the events. This place really is an adorable inn, but I don't like amenities dangled in front of me (one of which I pay extra for) and then not be able to use them. And just for the sake of being honest, we were last there in October 2011. The drop down menu would not let me pick that far back.
