"March weekend at Peter Shields, Cape May, NJ"
Very nice bed and breakfast, however our room was very small. The bathtub was inconvenient for us, since we are retired and had trouble getting in and out of the old fashioned bathtub. Also, there was not enough space to put our toiletries and there was only one outlet in the bathroom to plug in hairdryers, etc., and none in our room itself. No place […] to put a drink or a book on one side of the bed. The brunch was wonderful, but much too much food for us, and even though it was free, because it was so expensive to the public, our gratuity ended up being more than we would have spent on a regular breakfast and tip elsewhere. "Great Bed and Breakfast"
It was an impressive stay, start to finish. A beautiful place in a beautiful location. Courteous staff. Beautiful architecture and well maintained (and clean). The Inn has a restaurant on the main floor where we had breakfast (very nice) with an expansive view of the ocean. 4 PM serving of wine (red or white) and cheeses and veggies on the second floor […] parlor with a view of the ocean. Lovely vintage fixtures and the addition of a small flat screen TV and affective electric heater above the bed. A hospitality room right down the hall (on the third floor, same as our room) with free goodies: homemade cookies, choices of hot tea, a variety of potato chips, an ice maker and a fridge with a variety of sodas and water. And the price was very affordable. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This was a great bed & breakfast. Went with a couple friends as just a "road trip" to get away from it all and we really had a good time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Loved the Inn, but disappointed in dinner"
The Inn is beautiful and we loved the room - the one disappointment was in dinner -- I ordered the hanger stake, and if I had not been enjoying the ambiance, and the beautiful surrondings; I would have returned the meal because it was way below par considering the Zagat rating.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Will Be Back"
LOVED our one night stay. Staff is great, breakfast was delicious. We loved our room, and enjoyed the 4:00 wine and cheese in the sitting area. Can't wait to go back. There is even a hospitality room where you can get snacks and beverages anytime you want. This was a big plus, as I had my coffee immediately after I woke. Just the way I like it!Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel gets high marks overall . . .ambiance, gourmet food, charm, it's all there. However, the room we stayed in, #5, needs to be updated.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Fabulous Stay in Cape May"
My husband and I just returned from Cape May where we stayed at Peter Shield's Inn. The inn is in a quieter section on Beach Ave. and was right across from the beach. There is also a comfort station right there as well, which was wonderful. One didn't have far to go to use a restroom while on the beach. The inn it self was beautiful and well maintained […] as well as the rooms, which were lovely. The only concern we encountered are the matresses are very high off the ground, which could be an issue for someone with leg, knee or hip problems... my husband who is 6'4" could not rest his feet flush to the ground. This didn't deter me ... I loved the inn so much, I would bring a step stool, lol! We also ate at the resturant, which was wonderul the food was cooked perfectly and arranged professionally on the plate. We took advantage of the early seating fixed price menu, which cost $40.00. Bridget, Meg and all the staff were so kind and helpful in everyway. So don't be afraid to ask them any questions you might have. Two services the inn offers which my husband liked very much was the free 24-hour beverage and snack room and the daily free wine and cheese at 4:30 PM. The latter helped you meet other guests... it was a great ice breaker for conversation. We really loved our stay and would recommend it highly. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Beach Location"
We really liked the location of the B&B. The breakfast in the morning was very good with a full menu. The beach was right across the street and the downtown shopping and resturant area was an easy mile walk ( we did it several times ). The Inn is older victorian and parking is provided off the street. Lots of extras provided including bikes and beach […] towels at no charge. Very warm when we were there, a/c was a necessary item all night. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Across the street from the beach. Wine and cheese cocktail hour daily. Breakfast on the screened in porch while watching dolphins swim by. The cocktails and breakfast were included in the price. Service was excellent. Room was spacious...clean.....with private bath. A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO STAY IN CAPE MAY!!!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Inn with a glitch or two"
The hotel staff were accommodating and really friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived the rooms are lovely and there are wonderful places to sit and enjoy the ocean view or meet other guests There is a 24-hour hospitality room well stocked with coffee, snacks, soft drinks. The only issue we had was that the central A/C unit was not working and […] the window unit that temporarily replaced it meant that the only window in the room was unable to be opened - no fresh sea breeze available at all. It was really a little claustrophobic given that we had the smallest room in the place. The bed was also extremely soft. The room was expensive - this is not a bargain by any definition, but the inn was sold out and there were no other solutions than to grin and bear it. Decor was attractive though and the restaurant was very good, with well prepared seasonal cuisine and service. No liquor license tho you can bring your own This is NOT a place for kids Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Charming bed and breakfast, with excellent staff, and out of this world dinning. They provided us with beach chairs, towels, and umbrella. We loved walking the short distance to the beach and wine and cheese at 5pm.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Perfect for a romantic getaway"
I took my girlfriend here for a surprise birthday weekend getaway. I never write reviews, but I feel compelled to write one for the Peter Shields Inn. The hotel is charming. The staff is friendly, helpful and efficient. The food -- including the breakfast offerings -- is first rate. Beach access is right across the street, and the hotel provides beach […] chairs and umbrellas. Also, no need to rent bikes -- the hotel has its own that you can use. There is also a lounge stocked with free snacks, coffee, tea and soda that's open 24 hours. Enjoy the free wine and cheese served daily at 4:30. And do yourself a favor: Book a dinner reservation. You won't be disappointed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This inn is really charming. The staff are all friendly. There are generous amenities, such as free snack of many varieties, free beach equipment and bicycles. There was a pianist in the evening playing beautiful standards. The overall feeling is one of fine relaxation. This hotel really knows how to spoil you.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ocean Front View of Cape May"
This B&B offers great rooms, service, and a good location. The rooms were very pricy but provided a top notch stay in every aspect. We had a great time. Bikes, beach towels were provided but if you just wanted to relax on one of the porches looking out at the Atlantic that was also available. Nice touch with a PM wine / cheese tasting. Great breakfast. […] Onsite free parking. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Wonderful relaxing location on the beech!"
We were very excited to spend a few days in Cape May since we vacationed in the area years ago. So exciting to see all the new places and how clean and well kept everything was. "Sehr guter Service"
"Great "extras" included"
03/19/15 SAFoodieTraveler San Antonio, Texas
We absolutely loved staying here for a night. The service was top notch and the "extras" included with the price were a nice surprise. They had a wine and cheese spread set out in a common area for a couple hours in the late afternoon. There was a niche filled with complementary soda/water/juice and small snacks available anytime. The breakfast in the morning was made to order. My boyfriend raved about the pancakes and stated they were the best he's ever had. I had an omelet that was perfectly cooked. The restaurant was closed the night we stayed so I can't say anything about it but if it's as good as the food we had at breakfast then it's a sure thing. The beach is literally across the street and over a small sand dune. We can't wait to stay here again!

The entire process from check in to dinner to check out was excellent. The staff at the Inn are amazing as were the wait staff in the restaurant . The Chef prepared a wonderful meal that both my wife and I enjoyed. The restaurant is a byob which is a nice touch. We can't wait to go back and dig our toes into the sand.

Fabulous. We recently stayed three nights. This was our first trip to Cape May and our first experience at a bed and breakfast. The staff was very attentive to our needs and really made us feel at home. We were always greeted with a smile and a hello. They were also familiar with the area and gave us some suggestions on places to go that would be open during the off season. Breakfast service was excellet. Our waitress was so pleasant and hospitable making sure we had everything we needed or wanted. We stayed in Room 3. Very cozy and comfortable. A fireplace and jetted tub made our stay even more spectacular. The bed was comfortable and the turn down service each night was a plus. Wine and cheese each day was an added bonus and gave us an opportunity to talk with other other guests. I cant say how awesome dinner service was. The food was sensational and the service again was very attentive. I don't think I have ever had a better meal. I would stay here again and again and have already made a recommendation to another couple.
"Excellent location, beautiful room and friendly staff"
03/13/15 Kay M Augusta, GA
We were very surprised when we drove up to this inn and saw the stately grandeur before us. It looked out of place in Cape May. It was directly across from the beach, but it was freezing outside so we didn't care much about that. Our room, however, had a wonderful view of the ocean. The room was big with a huge walk in shower and a separate claw foot bathtub with bath salts. Music was playing when we arrived and there was a fireplace and tv. The bed was very comfortable and was kingsize. Many inns don't have kingsize,Mao that was definitely a plus. We missed wine and cheese hour, but the staff gave us an excellent recommendation for dinner. They have a restaurant at the inn, but it was closed on Wednesdays. Breakfast the next morning was excellent, and we sat in an enclosed porch area with a view of the water. The staff showed us around after breakfast, and we saw the bar and coffee area. The house is tastefully decorated with a stunning staircase with stained glass windows overlooking the landing. We would definitely stay here again. It is also Select Registry, so we knew it would have certain standards to maintain.
"What a beautiful place!"

My wife and I were looking at some place to stay besides Atlantic City. We have never spent any time in Cape May besides the Zoo. We book this room based on Trip Advisor and Yelp reviews and information. Upon arrival the over 100 year old property on the beachfront is stunning. It must look even better in the warmer weather. Upon check in the staff was amazingly freindly and helpful. They should us around the entire property. The proerty was breath taking for its age. Our room was amazing, with a fire place and bath tub. They even had jazz music on when we entered the room. After the tour they offered to squeeze us into the restauraunt. The thought was nice, but we had other plans at Lucky Bones. When we returned the dinner crowd seemed a little loud. It was 8:30. We came back with a bottle of wine, and tub salts from a local store. The only problem was the rehearsal dinner we think that was going on down stairs. I felft as if we were part of the party. I hear all the stories and such that happened. At 10:00 pm while drining our wine after trying to have a romantic bath and then bed time, we called down to the desk. The young lady working had to STEP OUT SIDE TO HEAR US on the phone. Apparently the party had run over, since the dinning room closes at 8:30. The party was apparently getting thier coats, altough it sounded like a shore bar on Memorial Day weekend. About 11:00 it finally got quite. The bed was spectacular and then we could finially sleep. We wondered down to breakfast at 7:20. Breakfast was served at 8:00, but the coffee was ready, which was the most important part. The breakfast was out standing. Upon relaying our story to the inn keeper, she apologized straight up and stated that this usually does not happen. At Check Out we were offered a $50 gift card. We will trust them on everything and will be back with in the year to try again.
"My first trip to Cape May"
02/23/15 Marlieandzack Troutville, Virginia
I chose The Peter Shields Inn because of its rating. I was pleased with the room and the inn in general. In my reservation, I mentioned that I liked to read and have coffee earlier than my breakfast. Coffee was in a common area. There were plastic cups (really...in this expensive inn???) and some regular cups in the glass cabinet. I chose a glass cup and went to the lobby and sat down to enjoy an hour reading. No sooner had I sat down than the day manager came storming out of the kitchen and chastised me for using a glass cup and then she told me I was not allowed in the lobby. Mind you, I was dressed for the day complete with hair done and makeup on. That set the tone for my whole week. Some of the staff were extremely nice and some were snobby and overbearing and made me feel like they had "put out the money for my visit." I would never go there again. For our first breakfast, it was cold and windy yet they had set up the breakfast outside on the porch. The first ones down were cold. We asked to sit on the enclosed porch (tables and everything were already there.) It was like we were infringing on them to sit inside instead of outside freezing. Again, I'd NEVER go there. It's expensive and you'd expect the staff to be nice. One lady was great....the rest are snobs and mean in my opinion.
"Charming Inn with wonderful food"
02/10/15 jdt787 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
This is a converted Cape May mansion and as such, the rooms are reflective of a time gone by. All rooms have new baths, Central Air , TV, etc. The rooms on the top floor toward the back are small as they are converted servants quarters. The inn serves wine and cheese for its guests from about 4-6 PM daily, they also provide free non alcoholic beverages and snacks 24/7. The restaurant is splendid for dinner but reservations are a must. Note that there is no elevator service and you begin walking stairs from the ground level approach.

What a great way to celebrate a special occasion. The staff was exceptional and could not be more accomodating or friendly. We stayed on the third floor in the rear of the hotel. It was very private and nicely appointed. Keep in mind this is an old building so it is drafty. The food is top notch! The afternoon wine and cheese was a nice way to meet some interesting people. Breakfast selection was nice and more than I expected. The Inn also offers a dinner package which was well worth the price. Ask about it. We definately plan on returning and hopefully soon!!

We just came back from a romantic week-end getaway and also to celebrate my birthday. We had a great time and loved the place. Stephanie at the front desk was extremely nice and helpful. Every one there was great. The food was also excellent. We loved the wine and cheese in the afternoon and the fireplace in our room added a romantic touch. Room was very clean and even though we did not use the maid service, she left us fresh towels and toiletries in a basket outside our door each day. Loved having an ocean front room. Even though our room #7 only had a dormer window facing the ocean, the view was fantastic. I am attaching two pictures of the beautiful sunrise one morning and the stormy ocean the day before. Just a perfect trip all around.
