Floris Suite Hotel - Willemstad

Great location. Beautiful beache, two to choose from. Great staff, great grounds. More of an adult place, great there aren't many kids. Room was huge and comfortable. Loved the kitchen. Only negative is the restaurant. Worse meal we had in curacao and one of the most expensive. But the rest of the hotel is perfect.

The hotel met the minimums as the other major local hotels do not offer large rooms (unless you go to a private condo). Lobby is attractive, rooms are modest and quiet. It was so nice to be met at the airport with a sign with our names and the name of the hotel being held by the driver who took us right to the hotel. Our maid was excellent and all the hotel staff were very helpful and pleasant. The hotel was far enough away from Willemstad to be out of the city but close enough to be easily accessible.

Without a doubt, anyone staying at Floris Suite Hotel will be blown away by just how beautiful the entire hotel is. Also value for money is unparalleled. Being just five minutes from Otrobanda is another plus. All in all I would not stay at any other hotel while in Curacao and I recommend if you are reading this to do the same!

Great hotel! Fantastically helpful staff! The rooms are beautiful, and the lizards are plentiful! (outdoors of course) Watch out for the small annoyances (like dripping air conditioners), but do take advantage of of the small conveniences (like the really cool mini-buses). My family and I had a great stay at the Floris, and we were sad to leave.

It's a nice hotel, with accommodating staff. The bartender at the pool was very friendly and would mix drinks not on the menu. The staff for breakfast would also help me carry my food to the room so we could eat on our private terrace. The hotel beach at the Pirate Bay bar was nice and never over crowded. Not much in terms to see for snorkeling though. A […] few complaints: - the showers need to be cleaned better (mold) - they do not clean the pool on the weekend, and it became very dirty - they charge for all calls out of your room (local and even to the front desk for towels!!!) The hotel is not walking distance to the city centro, and cabs are expensive. If you plan on venturing around the island, I would highly recommend renting a car. Taxis are $15 to the city centro, $25 to the airport/Hato caves/Seaquarium, $50 to Jan Thiel beach, $70 to the West Point. And that's each way + tip. It was easy to spend $150/day in cab fare. Rent a car for $30 per day, and you will still save money if you don't leave the hotel area. Also, try the "rice table" at the close by Tempo Doeloe restaurant. Overall verdict, a nice stay. The Floris was a VERY nice hotel. Friendly staff, beautiful setting. My only complaint was the hot water in the shower always ran out in about two minutes. We brought this to the attention of the desk repeatedly. At one point they sent a maintenance man to check it out. He agreed there was a problem and said he'd replace the water heater the next day. […] We never saw him again. We again brought this to the attention of the front desk but nothing ever came of it. It wasn't a huge deal except my girlfriend has been serving in Peace Corps Suriname and I wanted her to have a really nice experience. Food was a bit pricey but pretty typical for Curacao. The beach was small and it's recommended you drive to it as it isn't directly attached to the hotel. The Pirate Bay restaurant at the beach was nice, casual and good value. The restaurant was excellent, but the breakfast offered only an expensive buffet and since we don't eat that much for breakfast we would have liked a la carte choices. The rooms did have kitchen facilities if you wanted to cook your own but the neighborhood had only one very small convenience store. The neighborhood is largely hotels like the Hilton and Marriott and not full of restaurant choices. However, all in all it was a wonderful hotel, wonderful experience and we would absolutely go back there. They had a free cocktail evening for a couple of hours one day and the managers and staff tried to talk to everyone. The best thing about the hotel is the restaurant, Sjalotte. The breakfast buffet is nice, but the lunch and dinner cooking is really good. We ate there 3 times and were never disappointed. What was disappointing was that our room (a Junior Suite) was about the size of a Howard Johnson's room stateside. We wonder if "suite" means something different […] in Curacao than it does here. Also, the rooms have the feeling of being cheaply built and appointed. In addition we found that the attitude of the staff varied widely, from genuine graciousness to apathy. There was a bit of false advertising as well. There was no minibar in the room, and the beach that is accessible from the hotel is on the small side. If you want to snorkel at the beach, you have to provide your own gear. After promising to help book excursions, the staff seemed a bit at a loss as to how to proceed. If we were to go to the Floris Suites again (which we won't do), we would book a bigger suite, and have our excursions all lined up ahead of time. A Fodor's or Frommer's is also a must for this island. Read more

The hotel was even better than expected. I was extremely pleased with the kitchen in the room. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I liked the restaurant very much. It had a small, intimate, personal atmosphere. The cab ride to and from town was reasonably priced and there was shuttle bus service at 9AM and 4Pm.
