"Worst Hotel Stay EVER!!!!"
This was one of the Worst Hotel Stays I've ever had. When we arrived we went to our room and found the Refrigerator did not work. We had just went to the store to buy some groceries to cover Breakfast and Lunch. We complained to the front desk that the Refrigerator did not work, they said they would bring us a new Refrigerator. They did, but this one […] froze everything we had. All my fruits and lunch goods had to be thrown away. When we went to take a shower, there was no Hot Water, the front desk said that they've had problems due to a recent flood and there was nothing they could do for us. If they knew they had these problems they should have told us before we checked in, we could have gone to a different hotel for the night. This was the first day on the island and it ruin the atmosphere of our 35th Wedding Annivarsary. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The air condition worked very well .I took lots of warm showers at the hotel after a long day in philipsburg. The staffs was great ! i booked the mountain view room ,when i arrived to check in they quickly upgraded my room from mountain view room to ocean view room with no extra fees. "Great place to stay:)"
St. Maarten is amazing. I loved it and the view and hotel Captain Olivers Resort & Marina is an awesome place. I high recommended it:)Genuine Expedia guest review
We had an oceanview room (use hotels.com) and thoroughly enjoyed breakfast on our balcony overlooking the Pond and out to the ocean. Pick up some pastries down the road at the Supermarket. Take out the coffee (superb) from the Dingy Dock and enjoy the morning recovering from a windy 7 days catamaran charter out of Sunsail.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"convenient to the marina and several restaurants"
Nice hotel, my room overlooked the bay of Oyster Pond Marina and pool. Very clean and kept grounds. Short walk to the Dingy Bar & Restaurant along with several other eating establishments. Hot water was marginal in the shower but not the sinks, shower was spacious with twin vanities. Wifi was available in the room but weak on the balcony.Genuine Expedia guest review
I did not like AT ALL that they have on their website that they have a shuttle to go and come from the airport, but when you ask for it they tell you that they do not have and that you have to take a taxi. It is 30 dollars for a taxi on way. It is really absurd how they lied like that.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very good location."
It is blessed by having two bars on the deck of the marina.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pleasant location at marina and close to beach"
Friendly staff at this serene location Besides the adjacent restraunt, there are several French restraunts nearby. Kids enjoyed the parrots.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good Value in Captain Oliver's"
I would stay there again, but I note that a bit of updating is in order. The shower did not produce warm or hot water, although the sinks did. That was not a real problem at the time of my early April visit, though, because the temperature was about 80° F and the air was a bit humid. Better quality tv reception is in order, too.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Captain Oliver's Was A Joy!"
A great hidden away gem. If you're tired of the Dutch side scene but don't want to pay the French side prices near Marigot -- give Captain Oliver's a chance. The rooms were clean & peaceful and we had a wonderful time!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful resort, marina, lots of restaurants near"
we got a beautiful room with a garden view, although marina and mountain rooms are possible. The staff was very friendly. It had many restaurants and bars adjoining it. However you'll need to rent a car to drive to more happening areas.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fabulous staff, relaxing experience"
I booked a last minute room here to extend my stay on the island as I wasn't ready to return to the cold Northeast. The staff was great, very accommodating. The onsite restaurant is pricy, but the bartender was kind and would bring drinks to the pool. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony reading a book while glancing up occasionally to watch a boat pass […] or the tide come in. I will definitely be staying here next time I visit. "Quality expected with price"
The rooms, as others have mentioned do need remodeling. The safe requires a lock brought by the guest, but is a special type of lock I've never seen used in the USA. The location is a bit hard to get to and the Internet is very finicky. Obviously with the price as it is, the hotel is not a five star resort, but it is in a fairly quiet location with […] nice restaurants within walking distance. The room was adequate, clean, and the air conditioning and bathroom worked well. There was a small refigerator, but no microwave or hot plate. Parking is a little challenging. "Promising, but in the end, a disappointment"
Captain Oliver's Hotel is set in a great location, but the Hotel itself is poorly managed. Attention to detail is sorely lacking. The rooms are clean - very clean, and would be more comfortable if there were screens on the doors that lead to the patios. One is forced to use the A/C unit to move air about the room. The refrigerator in the room had no […] ice cube trays - a foray to the restaurant with an ice bucket was a pain. Multi lingual desk staff were often missing from their posts, and inconsistent with the guests and policies - we had friends join us from another island. The breakfast was a joke - bread and coffee. I asked a waitress for eggs one morning and she told me "that costs more" and walked away. I would have paid more for a decent breakfast as opposed to my $15 piece of toast, but the staff wasn't to be bothered. The only fruit available was in a cocktail at the end of the day - and only for one day, as a lime could not be procured for a drink the following afternoon. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel staff is excellent. They are there to make sure your stay is enjoyable.Genuine Expedia guest review
Stayed at the Captain's for 9 days in January. I have stayed there 4 times in the last 10 years. Just about the same as it has always been. A charming hotel with large rooms, but nothing fancy. Restaurant food is ok, some nights, great. Most staff are very friendly and accommodating, with some exceptions, but that is true anywhere. Would be back to […] the Captain as it is in a great location and the price for what you receive is the best (in my opinion) on the whole island. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
First of all, the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. That is where the good news ends... The hotel looks like it was almost abandoned, and only now are they trying to renovate... But this is happening while guests are there. There is very little to do nearby, and a cab to and from the hotel would be the cost of a reasonable meal. "Nice place to stay"
The rooms, grounds and pool of this resort are very nice. Some rooms have a great view of the ocean. My only complain was the wireless internet . In the room, the signal was very spotty and wick however the lobby had very fast internet so if you don't mind that I would definitely recomand this place.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No hot water."
The view was 5 star, but no hot water. You could take a cold shower or not so cold. If they had hot shower it would be a 3 and a half star. Other than that 2 stars. Don't order fried calamari at the restaurant.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Tucked away, but still close"
First of all, Sebastian was the best hotel staff I've ever dealt with. His ability to accommodate us and make sure every bit of our stay was positive was an exemplary example of how a service business should be run. The hotel itself was nice, quaint, and pleasant to stay at. Small communication issues like the breakfast place not knowing we were staying […] there were quickly resolved with a call to the management desk. Staff was nice and the view was great. "A pleasant stay"
We went on a last minute Expedia trip and were completely satisfied by everything except the service of the staff-- they just seemed disinterested in the guests. They did bump us from a marina view to an ocean view room which made all of the difference in hindsight. The room itself was large and generally clean. Although some commented on the poor […] quality of the bathroom it looks like they have renovated them within the past year and were very comfortable. Oyster Pond is a great part of the island that is developed but not dense or overcrowded. It definitely caters to the sailors on the island more than the cruise ship passengers/Americans (which is to say that's a good thing). The Captain Oliver's restaurant was overpriced and the food was just OK. Be sure to visit the supermarche at the top of the hill as well as the Quay Ouest restaurant. Both are more reasonable. Also, spend one day in St Barths; the ferry leaves from right outside the hotel and is too easy of a trip to not take it. Overall I would definitely recommend the place. "A jem of a spot, away from the madness"
This little jewel comes with a few words of advice...this is a marina, not a beach front hotel. That having been said, many rooms have wonderful water views and the beach is a few short minutes away via water taxi. The staff is mainly french-friendly..be patient, they will get things done. The rooms are large...but dated and could use a little touch […] up...but nothing that would keep me from returning. Food is very good and there are several other places to dine across the marina or around the corner. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"good for independent travelers who have a car"
Wonderful room, beautiful view of St. Barts. If you are an independent traveler, this is your place. If you need any help from the front desk staff, look elsewhere. This hotel is way off the beaten path, so be sure to rent a car if staying here. Taxi from the airport is $38 per person.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Just nice enough- not awful"
The room had a view that was something I had looked for. The internet was sporatic at best but we just looked at email once a day and it was only available in their lobby. The water was another thing that was annoying but that might be the city more than the hotel. The pressure was very slight and the water wasn't that warm even if it was turned all […] the way to HOT. The breakfast buffet had a pretty good variety and was consistant. The evening buffet was not 5 star but the price was $40 (US) per person and in my opinion not worth that much maney. We could eat cheaper and just as tasty with room service. The borchure picture of the room we stayed in was just like the room we had so that was not a let down at all. "OK For 1 night while waiting for a cruise."
This hotel was rated 4 stars in 2005 and that was probably the last time they did any work on it. The bathroom tile was horrible. There were places where it was repaired but in all respects a blind person could do a better job with a caulk gun. The bed was one of the cheapest and hardest ones I've slept on. It was almost as if I was sleeping on the […] box spring. It really isn't much of a resort. It has a small pool and a small beach. If you do go you need a car. To get to a major town you will need a car, or walk. I walked to the French Quarter (45 minutes, and I walk fast) then take a bus or hitch hike. The staff acted like I was bothering them when I'd ask a question. It's OK for a stop over while waiting for a cruise but there are closer and better hotels in Phillipsburg. "Captain Oliver's Resort and Marina"
We enjoyed staying at this hotel very much. The view from our room was of the marina. You could see beautiful catamarants, other sailboats and sparkling blue water. "February 2012 trip"
Captain Olivers is a good option for someone who is coming for a short period of time, up to five days, and is not planning to spend a lot of time in the hotel. The hotel is old and a little run down, but rooms are clean and the restaurant has great views of the marina. We had two rooms: the ocean view and the marina. The first room had a breathtaking […] ocean view (as promised), but there was an unpleasant smell in the room, as if it was flooded before... The second room (marina view) really had a vew of a parking lot and some view of the marina over the roof tops. On a bright side, it didn't have that smell that was dominating the ocean view room. The car is a must if you decide to stay at this resort. It is basically a place to sleep have a quick breakfast and kill half an hour at the pool or at the bar before heading somewhere else. And to be fair, the restaurant is relatively inexpensive and the food is good. If you have time - try the lobster buffet in Friday night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Beautiful secluded getaway"
Beautiful setting and surroundings, charming layout and wonderfully relaxed atmosphere with a great easy-going and helpful staff. Semi-attached bungalow style hotel with rooms, dockside restaurant, open reception area (the only place you can get internet), nice pool area connected by a beachfront wooden walkway and concrete pathways through tropical […] gardens. We were upgraded for free to a fantastically set ocean front room with a view towards the inlet with a large hill to the left side, and another hotel across the harbor to the right. We loved the room, although it seems the toilet wasn't properly vented, and so the smell in the room wasn't always pleasant. We just lit a scented candle and opened the large blacony door. We originally stayed on the Dutch side at the Flamingo, which is a great little resort, but more family and old couple oriented than we wanted. We dropped by to see Capitain Olivers and loved this secluded getaway so moved to it the next day. We loved our stay there even more and would definately go back. "Quaint and Affordable"
My wife, daughter and I stayed at Captain Oliver's over Christmas. It's a nice place, and a good value. The staff was always very pleasant and accommodating. We requested another room from our original room to get something more updated, and the staff kindly obliged. The breakfast package for the three of us was very reasonable, and it was a nice buffet […] style with eggs to order. The restaurant was priced similarly to other venues of comparable quality. The pool was very clean and well kept, though some of the furniture was a little dated. The rooms have MAGNIFICENT views for the price, and the restaurant is on the water. For those planning to go to St. Barths, the ferry is less than 50 yards away from the restaurant so you can time your breakfast accordingly. The rooms were somewhat dated, but priced appropriately. St. Martin is not a budget destination. We own a timeshare across the bay at Oyster Pond, so we would go there during the day to spend time with other families and walk to the beach which is next door. Overall we liked the resort. My daughter and I prefer a little more resort amenities, though my wife prefers the simple and non-commercial style at Captain Olivers. One note that is not the fault of the resort: mosquitos. Make sure you bring protection of some sort b/c they are a nuisance at the resort in the rooms and in the reception area where you'll find free wi-fi for hotel guests. Good luck and enjoy! "Much more than expected!"
Captain Oliver's was much nicer than expected. It is exactly like the pictures they put on their website. "This hotel may work for you"
The hotel is located on the east coast of the island on the French/Dutch border. There are amazing water views available. Overall the hotel is fine. It def needs to be updated, but if you aren't looking for luxury it is great for the price. Each room has a private entrance. Our first room smelled moldy and the bathroom was too gross. They moved us into […] a different room that was in much better condition. Again not luxurious but clean. We didn't want to spend lots on the room bc we wanted to be able to spend our money experiencing the island. And we did! "Captain Olivers Resort & Marina In St. Martin"
A real throw back in "Island" vacationing. The views of the Ocean view rooms are absolutely beautiful! The front desk personal are very helpful. The food is very good at the hotel, and there is plenty of fine food nearby. It is very quiet and European. We found the only down side to be that their WIFI is slow and hard to access. "Captain Oliver's Resort"
Captain Oliver's is a marvelous hotel for pure relaxation. Our room had a splendid ocean view, and the small private beach was just a few steps away. The food at the Restaurant was delicious, and we especially enjoyed the authentic French cuisine at Quai West. This the place for people who do not want a wild scene, loud music, or a noisome casino.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Could use updating, but clean with good view"
We were there off-season, which might be responsible for aspects of our experience. We had picked the location to be by the marina (which it was), and because the ad offered amenities such as multiple restaurants and a shuttle to their "private beach". Turns out the restaurants were closed, and there was no indication of a shuttle to a "private beach." […] Such is life on a small island, I suppose... The good: beautiful view from the room, room was clean and bright. Location was right at the marina, which makes us happy (as boaters). The bad: our room safe had no batteries in it -- we asked to have it addressed and the clerk gave us a lock for something other than our safe...we had to go back and explain again; the bed is a bit on the (very) firm side -- so if you don't like that, you probably won't like the room. Overall the place could use some sprucing up, so if you are expecting anything other than a very local flavor, you might be unhappy. Also, if having on-site restaurant and other things available to you is important, double check on the existence of it before you book. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
