we needed a place for 1 night since our flight was changed - I wish we could have stayed at Captain Oliver's for longer. nice rooms, comfortable, beautiful views and love the birds and cats that have live there. We needed to store our luggage for the day and the staff was very accommodating - ensuring it was safe.

DO NOT STAY IN THEIR CHEAPER ROOMS. Very little hot water with terrible water pressure, sliding door on shower is so old and rusted it is hard to open it, safe does not work, refrigerator is so old that door does not close and freezer was solid with ice so we had melted water flood on large part of the floor going into bedroom for two days. Owner died and family is feuding in court for last two years so no repairs are being done.

Hotel is a small hotel with rooms that have terrific views - boats coming and going all the time. The hotel is quiet and yet there are at least 5 small restaurants within walking distance. Several are right at the Marina less than 50 yards away. The hotel staff is very friendly with welcoming smiles. Due to a Hurricane in October of 2014, there are many repairs to the hotel that need to happen but as of this date (January,2015) have not. If you are looking for a resort type experience, Captian Olivers is not for you. If you like quaint comfort and piece and quiet with a major Marina at your door step, Captian Olivers delivers.

The woman at the front desk was very nice. The bartender, Alan, at the Iguana bar was great. The room itself was rundown and in need of repair. Poor condition for the price.

First room had some bugs in the bed....not bed bugs but may be fleas. We couldn't tell if the sheets needed to be changed or it was a bed issue. Staff was very kind to switch our room which did not have bugs. The first room also had a lot of mosquitoes! Other than the issues mentioned above, the staff was friendly, nice hotel pool, several cats of the premise, hot showers, good ac, and small bar with fridge in room.

Our family stayed over Thanksgiving.. The staff, especially Anna, were awesome and extremely helpful in taking care of our every need. They went above and beyond the call of duty to make our stay wonderful. When we come back in January we will be planning on staying at Capt Oliver's again.

This was one of the Worst Hotel Stays I've ever had. When we arrived we went to our room and found the Refrigerator did not work. We had just went to the store to buy some groceries to cover Breakfast and Lunch. We complained to the front desk that the Refrigerator did not work, they said they would bring us a new Refrigerator. They did, but this one froze everything we had. All my fruits and lunch goods had to be thrown away. When we went to take a shower, there was no Hot Water, the front desk said that they've had problems due to a recent flood and there was nothing they could do for us. If they knew they had these problems they should have told us before we checked in, we could have gone to a different hotel for the night. This was the first day on the island and it ruin the atmosphere of our 35th Wedding Annivarsary.

i enjoyed my 3 nights stay at the captain olivers. The air condition worked very well .I took lots of warm showers at the hotel after a long day in philipsburg.The staffs was great ! i booked the mountain view room ,when i arrived to check in they quickly upgraded my room from mountain view room to ocean view room with no extra fees. The hotel is far from philipsburg and marigot so u need to rent a car. The hotel need a liitle TLC. nothing major. I enjoyed my stay and i will return next year!

We had an oceanview room (use hotels.com) and thoroughly enjoyed breakfast on our balcony overlooking the Pond and out to the ocean. Pick up some pastries down the road at the Supermarket. Take out the coffee (superb) from the Dingy Dock and enjoy the morning recovering from a windy 7 days catamaran charter out of Sunsail.

Nice hotel, my room overlooked the bay of Oyster Pond Marina and pool. Very clean and kept grounds. Short walk to the Dingy Bar & Restaurant along with several other eating establishments. Hot water was marginal in the shower but not the sinks, shower was spacious with twin vanities. Wifi was available in the room but weak on the balcony.

I did not like AT ALL that they have on their website that they have a shuttle to go and come from the airport, but when you ask for it they tell you that they do not have and that you have to take a taxi. It is 30 dollars for a taxi on way. It is really absurd how they lied like that.

I would stay there again, but I note that a bit of updating is in order. The shower did not produce warm or hot water, although the sinks did. That was not a real problem at the time of my early April visit, though, because the temperature was about 80° F and the air was a bit humid. Better quality tv reception is in order, too.

we got a beautiful room with a garden view, although marina and mountain rooms are possible. The staff was very friendly. It had many restaurants and bars adjoining it. However you'll need to rent a car to drive to more happening areas.

I booked a last minute room here to extend my stay on the island as I wasn't ready to return to the cold Northeast. The staff was great, very accommodating. The onsite restaurant is pricy, but the bartender was kind and would bring drinks to the pool. I enjoyed sitting on the balcony reading a book while glancing up occasionally to watch a boat pass or the tide come in. I will definitely be staying here next time I visit.

The rooms, as others have mentioned do need remodeling. The safe requires a lock brought by the guest, but is a special type of lock I've never seen used in the USA. The location is a bit hard to get to and the Internet is very finicky. Obviously with the price as it is, the hotel is not a five star resort, but it is in a fairly quiet location with nice restaurants within walking distance.

The room was adequate, clean, and the air conditioning and bathroom worked well. There was a small refigerator, but no microwave or hot plate. Parking is a little challenging. They have security at night. There are a fair number of restaurant choices within easy walking distance. We bought French pastries for breakfast each morning at the supermarket. We went to the Captain Olivers buffet which had lots of choices.

Captain Oliver's Hotel is set in a great location, but the Hotel itself is poorly managed. Attention to detail is sorely lacking. The rooms are clean - very clean, and would be more comfortable if there were screens on the doors that lead to the patios. One is forced to use the A/C unit to move air about the room. The refrigerator in the room had no ice cube trays - a foray to the restaurant with an ice bucket was a pain. Multi lingual desk staff were often missing from their posts, and inconsistent with the guests and policies - we had friends join us from another island. The breakfast was a joke - bread and coffee. I asked a waitress for eggs one morning and she told me "that costs more" and walked away. I would have paid more for a decent breakfast as opposed to my $15 piece of toast, but the staff wasn't to be bothered. The only fruit available was in a cocktail at the end of the day - and only for one day, as a lime could not be procured for a drink the following afternoon.

Stayed at the Captain's for 9 days in January. I have stayed there 4 times in the last 10 years. Just about the same as it has always been. A charming hotel with large rooms, but nothing fancy. Restaurant food is ok, some nights, great. Most staff are very friendly and accommodating, with some exceptions, but that is true anywhere. Would be back to the Captain as it is in a great location and the price for what you receive is the best (in my opinion) on the whole island.

First of all, the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. That is where the good news ends... The hotel looks like it was almost abandoned, and only now are they trying to renovate... But this is happening while guests are there. There is very little to do nearby, and a cab to and from the hotel would be the cost of a reasonable meal. Better to stay in an area on a real resort or close to a major town like Marigot or Philipsburg.

The rooms, grounds and pool of this resort are very nice. Some rooms have a great view of the ocean. My only complain was the wireless internet . In the room, the signal was very spotty and wick however the lobby had very fast internet so if you don't mind that I would definitely recomand this place.

The view was 5 star, but no hot water. You could take a cold shower or not so cold. If they had hot shower it would be a 3 and a half star. Other than that 2 stars. Don't order fried calamari at the restaurant.

First of all, Sebastian was the best hotel staff I've ever dealt with. His ability to accommodate us and make sure every bit of our stay was positive was an exemplary example of how a service business should be run. The hotel itself was nice, quaint, and pleasant to stay at. Small communication issues like the breakfast place not knowing we were staying there were quickly resolved with a call to the management desk. Staff was nice and the view was great. I highly recommend!

We went on a last minute Expedia trip and were completely satisfied by everything except the service of the staff-- they just seemed disinterested in the guests. They did bump us from a marina view to an ocean view room which made all of the difference in hindsight. The room itself was large and generally clean. Although some commented on the poor quality of the bathroom it looks like they have renovated them within the past year and were very comfortable. Oyster Pond is a great part of the island that is developed but not dense or overcrowded. It definitely caters to the sailors on the island more than the cruise ship passengers/Americans (which is to say that's a good thing). The Captain Oliver's restaurant was overpriced and the food was just OK. Be sure to visit the supermarche at the top of the hill as well as the Quay Ouest restaurant. Both are more reasonable. Also, spend one day in St Barths; the ferry leaves from right outside the hotel and is too easy of a trip to not take it. Overall I would definitely recommend the place.

This little jewel comes with a few words of advice...this is a marina, not a beach front hotel. That having been said, many rooms have wonderful water views and the beach is a few short minutes away via water taxi. The staff is mainly french-friendly..be patient, they will get things done. The rooms are large...but dated and could use a little touch up...but nothing that would keep me from returning. Food is very good and there are several other places to dine across the marina or around the corner.

The room had a view that was something I had looked for. The internet was sporatic at best but we just looked at email once a day and it was only available in their lobby. The water was another thing that was annoying but that might be the city more than the hotel. The pressure was very slight and the water wasn't that warm even if it was turned all the way to HOT. The breakfast buffet had a pretty good variety and was consistant. The evening buffet was not 5 star but the price was $40 (US) per person and in my opinion not worth that much maney. We could eat cheaper and just as tasty with room service. The borchure picture of the room we stayed in was just like the room we had so that was not a let down at all.

Would have been better to sleep in the early morning without their obnoxious noisy parrots in a cage. Drives off peopke like me that will not return there next time on St. Martin

room had a great bay and ocean view (i was graciously upgraded at check in ) room was big by any standard and beds were good. a bit on the soft side for my taste yet firm enough. property is a bit run down even taking into account proximity to ocean.fixtures in room seem dated yet clean. all in all, beauty of location more that makes up for any hotel deficiencies.

very few sun chairs, hotel in bad state of repair, law suits going on between joint owners so no money being spent to repair the hotel

We were there off-season, which might be responsible for aspects of our experience. We had picked the location to be by the marina (which it was), and because the ad offered amenities such as multiple restaurants and a shuttle to their "private beach". Turns out the restaurants were closed, and there was no indication of a shuttle to a "private beach." Such is life on a small island, I suppose... The good: beautiful view from the room, room was clean and bright. Location was right at the marina, which makes us happy (as boaters). The bad: our room safe had no batteries in it -- we asked to have it addressed and the clerk gave us a lock for something other than our safe...we had to go back and explain again; the bed is a bit on the (very) firm side -- so if you don't like that, you probably won't like the room. Overall the place could use some sprucing up, so if you are expecting anything other than a very local flavor, you might be unhappy. Also, if having on-site restaurant and other things available to you is important, double check on the existence of it before you book.

Very enjoyable stay. We had the pool all to ourselves. Short walk to St Barth Ferry for a excellent day out. Friendly local bars and restaurants close by. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Very good value for money :)
