It was like staying at an old ladies smelly condo...bad bed...dust all over...rundown. Staff was not very friendly either.

I just got back from staying in one of the "cottages" over the weekend. The worst place I have EVER stayed in SB. The decor is pre 20th century with random antiques everywhere and the "cottage" is an old apartment building with other units. This particular unit had a kitchen with dishes, which we used, but, when the maid came to "clean" our room each […] day, the dishes were not taken out, so they piled up for 4 DAYS. In addition to not taking the dirty dishes, the trash in each room was also not taken out, so we had 4 days worth of trash also. It seems the only thing the maid does is take out the dirty towels - not exactly cleaning... On top of the trash and dirty dishes in the kitchen, the "cottage" itself smelled like what I imagine musty, cat pee smells like - disgusting. It was even worse when we sat down on the sofa. My friends and I put towels on the couches to sit on because we were afraid we would smell if we came in direct contact. Next - the bathroom.... oh, the bathroom. At first glance, it looked nice and remodeled, but after you get in the shower, you realize the jets in the tub have not been cleaned since it was installed about 5 or 6 years ago. The jets were black with mold/mildew - DISGUSTING. The front desk attendants were terrible, to put it nicely. Not the sharpest tools in the shed and they were very difficult to try to carry on a conversation with, when they were actually around. I say this because each time I went to the front desk, I had to ring a bell and it took them a good 5 minutes to get from the kitchen, which was behind the front desk, to the desk itself. Once there, one of the girls was always sucking a honey packet and knew nothing about anything I asked her about. We have stayed at Villa Rosa on a number of occasions through the years. Our rooms were always in the main building where the lobby is located.. Those rooms were always exceptionally nice; quaint and charming. They may still be so, but this time we were booked into a "cottage". Sounds charming and from our past experience at the hotel we expected nothing […] less. Wrong....the "cottage" is actually what was an apartment in a two-story building adjacent to the main building. So if you have any idea of a cottage being a cute little separate building, be forewarned. Our "cottage" was on the 2nd floor up a steep and narrow staircase. The outdoor hallway was in disrepair with peeling stucco. Good: the living room was large and the kitchen & bath had been updated. Bad: furnishings were bizarre, no notebook, visitor information, or TV channel listings. no wine glasses or coffee maker. The bath towels were like paper and there was no hair dryer. Bottom line is that the rooms in the main building may still be as charming as ever, but if you book into a "cottage" know that it is really an old apartment.. If this is your last resort for a room it wouldn't be the end of the world, but for sure it wouldn't serve as a nice romantic getaway. Read more

I booked this hotel for a wedding nearly six months ago. At that time I called to confirm the room and was referred to a room included on the website. When I showed up last weekend, they completely had the wrong room -- and have given mine to somebody else. Instead I was put in a dirty room that they hadn't planned on renting for the night. We very much enjoyed ourselves. The bungelows were perfect...the pool (poolside) and lobby very nice. The complimentary wine and cheese was delightful...as was the continental breakfast--way better than most. WOuld absolutely stay there again.

This Inn was quite cute from the outside, but it became clear this was just a facade. Upon our entering the hotel we first realized the cramped nature of the reception room and hoped that this was not a theme. When taken to our cottage we were shown another guest room by mistake of a paper error. The first room was much larger than the room we had to […] settle for. Don't get me wrong had I seen the room I settled in originally I would have been happy, but after seeing the greener pastures I had trouble settling for less. The activities that the Inn offers for comfort in the reception area are kind, there was a wine and cheese social the night we got there. The Inn had the feel of a converted set of apartments; from a small courtyard, to a small pool area, and a very full room. The cottage had a full kitchen along with a main bedroom/living room, but became to cramped with the dining table that was too big for the room, and an extra twin bed that did not need to be there. The room did provide great items of comfort however; a large walk-in closet, a faux fireplace, and a jacuzzi bathtub. The walls however are much like those in an apartment building, paper thin. I heard a full conversation between a father and mother about what they were going to for the day, lead me to question how much they could hear of my night. All in all it was sufficient and of the quality that i would expect more with a motel. Read more

We stayed in Cottage #6 - the 2 "bedroom" and 2 queen bed cottage. Check- in and check-out was quick and easy, and the people at the front desk were courteous. The room itself was clean and well maintained. The Villa was clean and nicely decorated. During the first night, the central heat would not work and the bedroom electric furnace also failed (so we only had the living room electric furnace for heat). Sometime after midnight, a circuit breaker tripped, causing some lights, the TV, and the living room furnace to fail. The desk manager had retired for […] the evening, so I had to call the emergency number, and the gentleman came to reset the breaker. The next day we were moved to a new villa, as the shower would barely get warm and the maintenance could not fix the heat in the original. In that room, a circuit breaker tripped twice, as the wiring could not handle the TV and the furnaces running in concurrence. Finally, during the night, the thermostat seemed to fail as the heat would not turn off and we roasted through the night. Overall, the staff was friendly and eager to help, the rooms look nice, but the building needs to be updated. For the price, I wouldn't go back. Read more

Everything was great, Staff was very helpful and accommodating. We had a great time! It is a bed and breakfast, not a 5 star resort, so it was exactly as expected. The Wine and Cheese hour was really nice, they had all these little orderves you could tell they put a lot of time into. The wine was not from a small local winery which would have been nice, […] but its free wine, what is there to complain about! The breakfast was great too, yummy croissants from a local bakery and make your own waffles. If you are concerned about carbs, there is not a whole lot other than some cut up fruit, but you are on vacation enjoy! We stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage, not really a cottage more of a small apartment in the building next door. One note-the kitchen is not a full kitchen, more some cabinets with dinnerware and a refrigerator. No Microwave or stove. The beds were comfortable and the only improvement I could ask for is newer comforters. Looked like they had been around a while. Overall we really enjoyed it and would go back. Read more

Upon arrival we checked in and were taken to our room from here our entire stay was terrible. I went out to our car to get our bags and this lady shouted at me from across the parking lot "you are not staying here are you? I said I was and then she asked me the room number. i have no idea who she was but I can only assume she was perhaps the owner. […] Our room was terrible and seemed to be under renovation. We found the remodel on this property to appear like it had been done by the unskilled. The bathroom was the worst. The light switch cover didn't cover the hole in the tile. I'm of average height. The bathroom mirror was hung so high I could only see from my eyebrows up. Twice I found myself locked in the bathroom and had to get help from someone to […] let me out. When the maintenance man came to look at it he said I just had to grip the handle harder to turn it. Of the two windows in the bath, only one had a screen and the windows both opened onto a walkway. This hotel is very quaint and in a great location in Santa Barbara. Very close to the pier. Our Cottage # 6 had two bedrooms and it's own private balcony over looking the garden. It is an old house with creaky floors which only added to the charm. The flight of stairs to the room could provide difficulty for seniors with luggage though. Other guests arrived in the midst of our check in process and we were told that as they were tired from their trip, they would like to give them their keys first.(obviously return guests). We were tired from our trip too but it seemed not as important. In addition, while checking in we were told that the entire hotel had been booked for a private function so we were not allowed to enjoy the lobby even for the wine and cheese cocktail hour or use the pool area. I found this to be very unprofessional and there was no attempt to contact us ahead of time to let us know this was happening. Even though we asked, no refund or discount in our rate was offered in lieu of the inconvenience. So though the hotel was lovely I would not go back. Read more

Trotz frühzeitiger und fixer Buchung einer Übernachtung für zwei Erwachsene und zwei Kinder im Alter von 9 und 17 Jahren wurde uns vor Ort lediglich ein Zimmer mit einem Bett zugewiesen. Für ein Beistellbett wurden 28 Dollar verlangt. Der 9 jährige musste im Bett zwischen den Eltern schlafen. Trotz mehrfacher Rückfrage und jeweiliger Zusage wurde das […] Beistellbett nicht im Zimmer aufgestellt. So dass schließlich gegen 22 Uhr das Beistellbett von mir und meinem Sohn persönlich in das Zimmer getragen wurde. Gleiches gilt für die notwendige Bettdecke und Handtücher. Im Wäschelager fand die Hotelmitarbeiterin nach längerer Suche lediglich eine, satt der benötigten zwei zusätzlichen Bettdecken. Aus all diesen Gründen ist das Hotel nicht zu empfehlen. Im übrigen sind die Zimmer abgewohnt und renovierungsbedürftig. Die gute Lage des Hotels in Strandnähe, der hübsche offene Kamin im Empfangsbereich und die aufwendige Grünanlage im und um das Hotel können einen kompetenten und engagierten Service, ein fehlerfrei arbeitendes Reservierungsprogramm und ein zeitgemäß ausgestattestes Zimmer nicht ersetzen. L'hotel se trouve à moins de deux minutes de la plage, et a 15 minutes des commerces. L'état général est très agréable, pas mal de verdure, piscine (un peu sale), petit déjeuner très complet. En revanche places limitées de parking. Nous sommes satisfaits de notre séjour au Villa Rosa Inn.
