The room was small and the ceiling fan was constantly making loud noise. The height of room was pretty small which made ceiling fan more near to us and was a dangerous to guest. The hotel needs a real makeover.

Perfect location! But what's even better is that they have a free shuttle to pick you up from the boat and take you back. We even got a free upgrade to a beautiful, clean room. Remodeling niose was somewhat annoying but the hotel is looking amazing. Will be back!

We were informed that a shuttle would pick us up after the ferry ride to the island, but it never showed. We were also informed that the continental breakfast would be available until 11:00 AM, but when we came down before 10:30, there was no trace of it. We were also informed that all rooms had a ceiling fan which would've been nice on that hot day, […] but there wasn't one. Our room window would not close all the way so we couldn't lock it and feared that our things might get stolen. Towels and bedspread looked a bit dingy, but they smelled clean. Loved the room. Awesome location and done very well. Only issue is the bar accross the street was loud all night long both weekend nights. I think it was the "Chi chi room". If that was not located on that street the location would be amazing. Definately would go back.

Yes, employees are very friendly. The location is excellent. The hotel itself, well, that's another story. It is an old hotel and the floors are not leveled. The cleaning ladies do not clean well. There was a band-aid before we arrived on the bathroom floor and for the whole 3 days and 2 nights we stayed, it was never removed.

Friendly staff, good location, But still under renovation. Beds were not new pillow top as advertised! No staff on duty after 11 o'clock at night and unable to reach anyone to take care of a problem in the room next to ours. Would not recommend!

Location was the best thing about this hotel. Their policy of not allowing cancellations without penalty within 24 hours of the reservation is actually more like 48 hours, and does little to offer the traveler who books within that window. They could have easily sold our booking to another and been none the poorer for it. This is a policy that I understand, […] however to stringently beat the last minute traveler over the head with it is ridiculous. Our room was, as we presume all the rooms to be, old. That wasn't the issue. What was the issue was how the floor near the walls sloped down...when I walked over to that section of the room, I got vertigo every time because of the odd slant of the floor. I really liked the convenient location downtown near all the events, but was that really worth $400 bucks? My wife certainly didn't think so. She told me that this is the worst room in which she has ever stayed. And, as a result, I have lost all hotel booking privileges for the rest of my life. Suggested improvements: provide real customer service by going out of your way to help and by offering full cancellation if within 12 hours of your stay. Finally, I will credit the desk staff with a job well done. I needed computer and camera charging at odd times during the day and they were accommodating and generous with their time. Would I stay there again...probably. For $400? doubtful. Read more

I loved how everything was so close to the glenmore right next door theres a mini liquorstore a sports bar witch has 2 ppl tables in good shape right pay that there's a snack bar grill and the gold course you go the other way there's a pizza place and some shops but beware the pizza place is excessive cheese to the max. If ur a chese fanatic its awesome. […] It's exactly 112 steps from the arcade. 50 steps from the beach theres 2 breakfast house right behind the glenmore just cut through the alley so it's true when they say there in the heart of Avalon. Im.not kidding when I say everything is within a 1 minute walk. Uneven, creaky floors on each level--even in my room. This was my first visit to Catalina. I found the hotel to be very unique and in good shape considering the age. Some updating to other rooms was being done during our stay but they did a good job of not creating an inconvenience for us. The staff members were great. After touring the area, I don't feel we could have done any better for the money.

Room looked as if it hasn't been maintained for years... Hole in the wall where the knob hit the wall, blinds on the window cracked, stains on carpet, mold in bathroom. Reminds me of a hostel without having to share a bathroom. The staff was really nice, but this is ruined because of the state of the room.

We arrived two hours early, but fortunately our room was ready prior to the 3 pm check-in time. Made it up three flights of stairs and navigated the uneven stairs and hallways. There was OSB plywood on several walls on the ascent. We had difficulty opening the door since the deadbolt was misaligned with the jamb and the latex paint made the door stick. […] We had to KICK the door to get it to open. The tub and shower fixtures posed a problem since the handle came off attempting to find the position to the hot water. Ten minutes later I managed to find "warm." very nice hotel. went with my fiance for her birthday. the hotel is old, but i think that it is in line with the "mystique" of Catalina. great staff recommended Lobster Trap, super awesome dinner. would totally stay here again. great location. if you dont mind an older style hotel (as most are in Catalina) then i highly recommend this place.

As I already read prior reviews, I kept my expectations fairly low. It is a very old hotel and it looks like they are upgrading a bit. It was fine to take a quick shower and sleep for the night, but the toilet ran continously (despite telling the front desk) so we just kept the bathroom door closed and the mini-frig rattled so much I just unplugged […] it. This is a quaint 100+ year old hotel. It shows it age but does so with class and elegance. It is undergoing a renovation but the top floors are done and we stayed in one of the renovated rooms on the 3rd floor. The staff was very nice and offered to take us to the port when we checked out. All very positive. Only issue was the poorly insulated interior walls. Flushing toilet or shower running in adjacent room created such a loud roar that I would either wake up or have to turn up the TV volume substantially. (I was in room 203.) Nevertheless, would definitely stay again.

Since the hotel is old, it's not fair to judge it the same as the newer or remodeled ones. Everyone is VERY nice, we were able to leave our scuba gear by the office and hang things out in the courtyard. Having bagels, etc. available in the morning saved a trip to a restaurant. It was my birthday so I took advantage of the free Catalina Express boat ride over. When we arrived at the hotel, I asked for an upgrade that reservation Diane said to do. They said they were completely booked but that we were in a great room. We arrived in room 203, atrocious. A small box, ugly brown carpet, filthy scuffed walls, broken down furniture, […] unkempt, old bathroom. I said not way, I am not staying. I went back down and with a little prodding, they gave me keys to room 303, 100% better. Fully refurbished, marble bathroom, big screen tv, very clean and comfortable. We loved it. You have to take into consideration, this is the oldest hotel on the island. They don't have a pool or spa, but for one night, the room was great. I would recommend any rooms above the 2nd floor. Other than the room (314) in a non-view, somewhat noisy location, it was a fun and enjoyable stay. Great beds. No elevator so schleping up to 3rd floor is interesting. Only 1/2 block to waterfront and just couple of doors from local drugstore for all convienence items. Free continental breakfast in lobby.
