"Most romantic views in the USVI"Reviewed by Addison K of "New York, NY" on Mar 22, 2012
The Mafolie Hotel is situated near the top of the hill overlooking all of Charlotte Amalie's harbor and surrounding islands ( we were able to see the shadow of Culebra in the distance). The restaurant, which shares the view with all the rooms and the pool bar, has to be one of the most romantic dinner spots in the world. By island standards It's quite elegant and upscale, and serves very good food. Of the hotel itslef, much can be overlooked because of the view. The rooms are rather small and quite dated, but clean. Our room, in particular, wasn't great as we were quite near the restaurant kitchen, which meant a soundtrack of clanging and banging until about 10:30pm. We could see that rooms on the pool side were much nicer and had little terraces or balconies. The hotel is built literally into the hillside, so there are many steps and passages between the various levels of rooms, the pool bar, office and restaurant. This would not be a good place for the elderly or anyone with knee problems! And probably not for toddlers either. The location is also good because of its proximity to town and to Magen's Bay. The hotel offers a free shuttle to both (one-way only to town). Magens is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, especially on Wednesdays and Sundays, when there are no cruise ships in port. It's also a short taxi ride to teh airport when it's time to leave.
