"Beware - a place to avoid"
09/08/13 Explorers73 Torquay
The first thing that hits you is an unpleasant smell. We were shown to a dingy room with small windows and no decor. The write up promised a cooked breakfast. It failed to state the guests have to prepare it themselves. The communal kitchen was dirty. The cooker did'nt work properly. When paying for accomodation irrespective of its budget price, you don't want to be cleaning up after others. The choice of one cereal, eggs and bread if your lucky, are meagre - particularly when sharing with other guests. In our opinion, AAA Catherines Vancouver Bed & Breakfast lets down the reputation of b&b in Canada. We subsequently stayed in some excellent, well run establishments with friendly, hard working hosts for not much more cost. Sadly, this is not one of them.
"If you know what is good for you, don't book this dump!!!!!"

This place was a dump. We prepaid for this place, showed up to the owner standing with his shirt wide open (gross). The kitchen was disgustingly dirty, the burners on the stove didn't work, the coffee pot did not keep the coffee hot. The "breakfast" consisted of you cooking yourself - toast and eggs, cold cereal that was no name cereal in a plastic container that had "kellogs cornflakes" taped to it. There were 4 of us travelling and we knew that we would have a shared bathroom, what we didn't know was that two of us were upstairs and two of us were downstairs and those upstairs had to come down to use the bathroom. What we also didnt know is that we would have to share with all other people in the house. The bathroom was so dirty I didn't even want to take my shoes off - it was DIRTY, DIRTY, DIRTY. The whole place smelled like mould. The lamp shade in the bedroom was black with mold WE were booked for 4 nights but left after 2 - we asked for a refund but were absolutely refused. His comment was that you get what you pay for. This is not true - this was not what we paid for!!! the owner does not think that any of our complaints are justied. He stood and told us that he does the best he can for an 80 year old. the second night we were there, he had a man sleeping out in the livingroom - this man apparently is a regular and does not mind the pull away bed. Again, those upstairs had to pass by this man to get to the bathroom. This "facility" is not a safe place - no sprinklers in the building and not escape plan. I am planning on reporting this to the BBB in B C. People should be warned. Had we seen the comments on trip advisor, we would not have booked here.
"Stay away from this place!"

This is a dirty home that rents out dirty rooms to unsuspecting travelers. Breakfast is cold cereal and toast you fix yourself in a dirty kitchen. Our towels had long hairs on them. My credit card was charged twice and now I have to fight to get a refund.
"This is not truly a B & B - but you will be surprised..."

If you are looking for a quiet, safe place to stay with a friendly atmosphere and clean room and basic accommodations to sleep and have a cup of coffee and some eggs before you run off to a business or conference this is good accommodations for the cost. Most expect a B& B to be a quaint atmosphere with antiques and an ambiance of romance that is not what this is and they do not charge that price. Most hotels and motels and true B & B's are expensive. This is a respectable place with congenial hosts...we were allowed to check in late...get up early , get coffee and a light breakfast and get on our way without paying 210 dollars Canadian for a bunch of services we would not have the time to use. So Rating is relative...I would rate this Very Good Value for what we needed...and excellent considering we needed far less and got far more...a personable host named Bob.
"An Awful Place That's a Borderline Scam"

Avoid this place like the plague. It is awful. I was greeted at the door by the proprietor with his shirt unbuttoned, and he frequently rubbed his bare belly while showing me around the "bed and breakfast". This is a B&B only in the sense that yes, you will pay for a bed, and yes, you can eat breakfast there. The bedroom was four white walls, two uncomfortable, smelly twin beds, a tiny lamp and a ragged dresser. The bathroom was disgusting, and the pipes rattled obnoxiously anytime someone used them. The photos of the rooms on this site look nothing like the room I was given. Instead, look at those photos and picture what the room would like in a flop house where the only cleaning done is a quick vacuum pass and a bleaching to remove any visible stains. The breakfast part of this deal was a small, dingy kitchen with a fridge filled with eggs, milk and bread that you make yourself. Technically it's breakfast. I've had better breakfasts come in foil wrappers soda cans. Is this worth $70 a night? Hell no. I didn't stay the night and instead went on priceline and found a 4 star hotel in downtown Vancouver for $100. I had originally booked four nights in advance and soon cancelled the reservation. When I called the proprietor, he seemed amenable to the cancellation and didn't tell me about any fees, minimums or extra charges. Today I check my credit card charges and see that they did give me a small refund, but still managed to charge me for 3 nights. Needless to say, I now have to deal with this dispute. Do yourself a favor and sleep in a ditch before you pay for this place.

We planned on staying at this place have paid them via credit card, however had to cancel, and the place does not give you any kind of refund. Instead they hang up, they say they have to talk to the boss/manager which does not exist. They will gladly take your credit card information however you will need to cancel your cards and perform a charge back to get your money back. The reviews on google are mostly spam/fake, please do not do business with this place.

Our host was very gracious, but apparently has no clue in how to run a B&B. We had to leave very early the next day and he provided a packaged meal the night before. The house looks a bit like a frat house because the owner does not tidy up after himself and the concept of being quiet late at night seems lost on him. The room was clean but whatever detergent or fabric softener was used on the bedding was so powerful that we had to sleep with our clothes covering the pillows to be able to breath. Previous reviews complained about the cable TV, but there was adequate English programming available if you could figure out the controls.

This place was disgusting. When we arrived, the bathroom was extremely dirty, with all kinds of hair on the tiles, blended with year's worth of dust that hasn't been cleaned. The rooms were fine, but the blankets looked shady. In order to get to our room, we had to walk through the owner's TV room, which was cluttered and had a plethora of TVs and computer screens which were displaying various angles of the outside of the house, which were being filmed on live cameras. The owner's wife was often in this room, watching TV and eating but she never said hi or in any way acknowledge our presence. They would very often watch TV VERY loud until very late at night, when our room was just behind the wall. We also had an alarm clock go off in the room next to ours at 2:30am every night!! No one ever turned it off. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Don't go to this place.

I didn't stay at this BnB but the experience was bad just the same ! I have reserved a room for a three day stay in May 2010. I did so BEFORE checking Tripadvisor. Mistake. I have never seen so unanimous bad reviews. So I cancel my room the day after (early April). SURPRISE: the full amount have been charged to my credit card immediately and a non-advertised 50$ cancellation fee was charged to me. They refund me the rest. I filed a complaint at my credit card company and they refunded me in 48 hours. Conclusion: dishonnest way to make business, stay away.

I booked this room and had to cancel within 24 hours. Even though they had a 7 day cancellation policy they only refunded a partial amount after I had to file a dispute with my credit card company. They still say they are entitled to $150.00 administration and cancellation fee. I am even having a hard time getting this back from my credit card company. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!
